Description
The original DASH diet plan (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) was developed to lower blood pressure without medication. Since then, numerous studies have shown that the DASH diet reduces the risk of many diseases, including some kinds of cancer, stroke, heart disease, heart failure, kidney stones, and diabetes. It has been proven to be an effective way to lose weight and become healthier at the same time.
Beginning with an easy-to-read, non-scientific explanation of DASH and its benefits, DASH for Weight Loss is a comprehensive plan that includes menus, recipes, exercise prescriptions, weight-loss tools, and all the need-to-know information for setting up a DASH kitchen and getting started right away. The book will teach followers how they can adapt DASH to gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, and dairy-free eating styles, and will include resources like substitution lists, a grain cooking guide, and basic vegetable cooking charts.

My husband's doctor recommended the DASH diet for him many years ago when his high blood pressure first became an issue. At that time, there were very few articles and practically no recipe suggestions for the diet, just general guidelines that did not help. Over the years, I have still not found much to help expand his diet while still maintaining the DASH guidelines. So, he has had a pretty boring diet. Jennifer Koslo has made a huge contribution to the world of dieters with this cookbook. Her clear breakdown of how the diet impacts health and simple recipes to start the process will make the process so much easy for those people looking to live a healthier live style through fresher eating. I certainly wish I had this book many years ago.

DASH FOR WEIGHT LOSS by Jennifer Koslo presents "An Easy-to-Follow Plan for Losing Weight, Increasing Energy, and Lowering Blood Pressure." I like the emphasis on exercise as well as meal planning. Koslo begins by explaining the various stages of hypertension and offers some ideas for preventive measures (e.g., reduce sodium, increase potassium, become more active, etc.). She includes practical suggestions for eating out (choose baked or grilled options, dressing and toppings on the side, drink water) and weight loss (downsize your plates, keep a food diary). Overall, she tries to make following the DASH diet easy and reasonable, with plenty of charts and explanations, all of which takes at least a fourth of the book. Recipes themselves are grouped by meal type and main ingredient and include nutrition information. The pictures are colorful although there could be more. This seems intended for a more experienced cook. Ingredients tend to include some unusual ones (flaxseed meal, coconut milk) and preparation involves several steps.

Some great, easy delicious recipes that don't taste like diet food.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for my ARC. All opinions are my own.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Crown Publishing/Harmony for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Not sure why I got this book-I think the cover hooked me. I do not have hypertension or high blood pressure. But I did like some of the ideas in the book and healthy eating is never a bad thing. I liked the snack ideas. Thanks for.those!! A solid 3.

While looking online for the best diets for health and weight loss, I noticed that the dash diet is at the very top of the pack on the U.S. News and World report web site coming in at number two. It received this high rating because it is an excellent diet to follow for diabetes, your heart, reduction of blood pressure and . it's one of easiest to follow. If that isn't enough reasons to adopt this way of life, you can also lose weight while on it.
The author has this book starts out with a short overview of the benefits and how the plan works. (This isn't one of those repetitive books where you read 400 pages only to find out you basically highlighted two pages worth of helpful information.!) She follows this with recipes. You won't have to search for ingredients online and special order them either! i didn't come across any that I wasn't already familiar with.
I thought this book was extremely well done and deserves a five star rating.

Very informative and easy to follow. Author provides a 4wk meal plan, exercise regimen (beginner and intermediate/advanced) and recipes. Great overall presentation.

DASH for Weight Loss gives an excellent explanation of the DASH nutrition plan. The author explains the concepts well and makes them easy to understand. I look forward to trying out some of the recipes. I will recommend this book to anyone looking to adopt an eating plan to not only lose weight but to improve overall health.
