COLD & DEADLY is the first book in Toni Anderson’s new ‘Crossfire’ series; and centers around Dominic and Ava who are both FBI agents. Dominic is a hostage negotiator with a lot of experience and success in the FBI and Ava is a new FBI agent who is trying to make a name for herself. When one of Dominic and Ava's mentor's dies the two end up working together to figure out the details surrounding his death.
Although the two are attracted to each other from the beginning they don't necessarily like each other. I admit it took me awhile to warm up to both Dominic and Ava but as the story progressed I ended up really liking both of them. Dominic and Ava both have some wonderful characteristics but they also have some faults that the author isn't afraid to show the reader as well. They are both well rounded, believable characters that you can't help but root for as you get to know them
Dominic is a hostage negotiator for the FBI. When his mentor, Van, is suspected of killing himself, he didn’t want to believe it. Ava is a rookie FBI agent and took on a mobster after he killed her father when she was a little girl. Van took her under his wing and tried to teach her how to manage her anger. Ava never believed Van committed suicide and will tell anyone who will listen. When another agent is killed at the funeral, Ava and Dominic begin digging a little. Then a too many accidents happen and Ava is assigned as his bodyguard. Neither are relationship material but the more time spent together, the closer they get. But first they have to figure out who’s trying to kill Dominic and if they can stop and find them in time.
Super awesome story. Action, suspense, and sex. I was totally shocked!! Ava is a loner but so is Dominic but the attraction is too strong to ignore. I could not stop reading. It will keep you up late either from reading or listening for noises 😂.
What a superb start to a new branch of the Cold Justice Series!
Dominic may be the experienced Agent but Ava has killer instincts and, like a dog with a bone, she isn't giving up on her theory. She knows there is more to th death of her friend and mentor. She won't let the FBI sweep his "accident" under the rug.
As Dominic and Ava are forced to spend time together, developments are made and it seems that someone is attempting to clean house. The FBI agents are becoing targets of a warped serial killer.
This was a truly well written and crafted story. The characters are passionate about what they do, and each other! I defy you not to attempt to read this in one go because there is no rest in the story where it makes sense to put it down! Ava is all sharp edges and when Dominic could come across as sleazy and using his status to get his way, he's actually doing everything NOT to be alone with Ava.
Loved meeting some of the "old" gang again. There is no way you'd get me to traipse through the woods with a murderer, no matter how desperate the circumstances!
It is a great transition from the cold justice series and this new one.
Toni Anderson is definitely a great author of romantic suspense, bringing precision and high technical skills in describing FBI or other special forces. I love that all of or her héroïnes are strong and with missions of their own. And last but not least, the two series have the right balance of hot scènes in them.
Congrats Toni Anderson for this new series..
Toni Anderson create Hero and herons that readers can connect with, from their drive for the truth or seeking answers no one else can ask. Toni Anderson is a can't miss author!
Cold and Deadly starts off with a bang, reader reconnect with secondary characters from the other series and Mallory is finally having her baby.
The characters are smart, strong and willing to risk their life for those who are innocent.
Toni Anderson is able to combine action, characters who come alive on the pages as the walk, run or even shoot though the pages of the story. The author is able to create the perfect balance of Action, Suspense and Romance. Making this a can't miss series.
Thank you to the author for a copy of Cold and Deadly in exchange for my honest review.
Toni Anderson is one of my favorite romantic suspense authors. She never disappoints and this first book in her Cold Justice: Crossfire series is a perfect example of the author's super writing ability. I liked the characters and the edge-of-my-seat suspense. I look forward to the next book in the series.
Excellent suspense/thriller/romance and very well written with lots of twists and turns. It's the first book I've read by this author and I am going to read her entire back list in due course. Full of Police and FBI action and quite involved re storyline, with lots of gripping and dramatic chase and shootout scenes. I took my time reading this, because I didn't want to miss anything. The romance is slow burn till around halfway, then when it escalates, it fits in nicely with the back story. Sex scenes were very steamy, yet tasteful. I am assuming a lot of the side characters have starred in their own books previously, so I really want to read their stories. I would recommend this book 100% to all romance lovers. My thanks go to NetGalley for the ARC in return for my honest opinion.
I am a fan of 1) romantic suspense in general; 2) novels where one or both of the protagonists work in law enforcement; and 3) writing that strikes a balance between action and character development, and this novel--and Ms. Anderson's books in general--hit all the marks for me. Anderson's books are well-researched but don't bog the reader down with excessive detail; the plots are fast-paced; and the heroes are attractive and swoony without being alpha-male caricatures. This is a solid and entertaining novel, and its heroes, Ava and Dominic, are engaging and easy to root for. Dominic's expertise as a hostage negotiator, a law enforcement role not often given the spotlight in books, added extra interest and zest to the story. I look forward to continuing the series.
Cold & Deadly is the first book I've read by Ms Anderson, and honestly, I wasn't certain what to expect. But this was a great read, as not only was it suspenseful, exciting and a little intriguing. But it gave a glimpse into what certain departments in the FBI do. Especially the Crisis Negotiation Unit, and it was clear this story was very well researched. Not to mention the characters were extremely well fleshed out and the romance between Dominic and Ava engaging. Although not to the point of distracting from the hunt for a serial killer who is systematically killing off FBI agents, and there certainly was enough twists and turns along the way to keep me guessing, and hooked. And therefore I would happily recommend this story to others.
I love when an author doesn't waste time getting right to the action. From the first page your plopped right in the middle of the suspense and peril and it does not slow down until the last page.
The first book in the Cold Justice – Crossfire series gives us both new and previous characters from her Cold Justice series. It centers around the FBI’s Crisis Negotiation Unit. Even though the main plot of this book is serial killer who is targeting the FBI, which our hero happens to be at the top of the list, the author also gives us a detailed view of the Crisis Negotiation Unit in action which was fascinating to read.
I am a huge fan of her Cold Justice series so it was a no brainer that I was going love this spin-off series. Strong but flawed alpha men, tough but vulnerable on the inside women, edge of your seat action and suspense and a smokin romance. Can't wait to see whose story is next.
Dominic at his friend and retired FBI agent Van’s funeral, questions his death. Ava Kanas gripping her boss Aldrich arm, till Dominic suggest they cool it till back at the office. Their gut instinct telling them it was murder. Then an agent fell, their was a sniper close by and shooting. Dominic wants the case, he is the best negotiator there is,but needed there for now. With Ava on his mind, rule he didn’t date agents, or young rookie ones. Aldrich ask Dominic to look at the files, was there anything to what Ava said
This is another winner for the author, it is fast action, with lots of twists. Showing us their negotiation skills. The romance interest between Dominic and Ava. The plot is straight forward and easy to read. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
