Description

From the back cover:

HOW FAR WOULD YOU GO TO PROTECT THE ONES YOU LOVE?

THEN

Ten years ago, a covert government operation gone wrong separated Jack from Jessa, the girl he promised he would never leave.

NOW

Jack's special forces team receives a tip, leading them to a remote farmhouse in search of a group of hackers led by the elusive Zane who work for the same person he holds responsible for Jessa’s death, ten years earlier.

Past and present collide as what was once lost is now standing in front of him and appears to be working for the very evil he is trying to end.

But is everything as it seems as secrets begin to unravel and pieces are put back in their proper places?

And will the last missing piece, the answer to all of their problems, be found in time?

SYNOPSIS:

Ten years ago, a covert government operation gone wrong separated Jack from Jessa, the girl he promised he would never leave. Now, face-to-face and standing on opposite sides of the law from each other, if they can’t reconcile their differences, they may pay the ultimate price.

Years of hiding taught Jessa to trust no one. And left to fend for herself after a violent attack a decade earlier killed her family, she’s resorted to working highly illegal hacking contracts. But when she is captured by the man she thought had vanished, Jessa fears her former ally may have betrayed her.

Special Operations Agent Jack never got over the death of the woman he loved while working undercover. Horrified to learn she survived only to endure brutal torture at the hands of a vicious criminal mastermind, he worries he won’t regain her confidence. But with a deadly rival closing in, the determined operative will have to pull out all the stops to protect her from more heartless violence.

Backed into a corner, Jessa is forced to place her faith in Jack to help her recover the suppressed memories key to nailing their mutual adversary. But with her deeply ingrained trauma, Jack fears it could cost her what’s left of her sanity.

Will the damaged pair rise above a chasm of torment to take down a ruthless monster?

Thank you netgalley for the advance copy and Sheri Landry. As soon as I read this, I checked to see if you had written others! This was a page turning thriller! All that Jessa's had to go through in order to figure out her past. How her past and her future came together with the one person she didn't think would be the one to help her.
Special Agent Jack, who thought she had died years ago. To learn that she was alive and had the answers to so many questions he has. Also Jessa had to trust that Jack was in it to help her and not to just solve the mystery.
A must read! Warning- there are some explicit parts in the book. Can't wait for the next novel!

My Review

Exit Plan is the first book in the Kill Code Thriller Series. A dark suspenseful novel with well-crafted characters. The books keeps you on your edge with enough twists and turns to make this a great suspenseful novel.

This book was provided in exchange for my honest opinion. If you enjoy suspenseful, dark story-lines then this is the book for you. I highly recommend Exit Plan.

I received an Advance Reader Copy in exchange for an unbiased review. Thank you author Sheri Landry and Netgalley. The book releases April 2020.

Deliciously dark, this book reminds me for some reason of the 1980s movie Tequila Sunrise (except with hackers instead of drug dealers). Both leading men are Alpha males with secrets. Throw in a corrupt crime syndicate and smokin' hot tension between Tessa and Jack and you have a winner! I love his control issues. This would've been a hit 80s era show. The vibe and verbiage are certainly right for it. Although the prologue and first three chapters are dense and somewhat awkward with backstory, by chapter 11 I was hooked. If you can get passed the beginning the rest of the book flows wonderfully. It bothers me a bit that Jack, even with the 5 year age difference, as a special ops undercover federal official, has no guilt or ethical qualms about having sex with a high school student. It does, however, give him that bad boy with a big heart appeal. I think his character would be more sympathetic if he expressed some professional struggle with his feelings about Jessa during that high school period. I got hung up a bit on that in the beginning. I sincerely hated Logan all the way around. From his toxic way of addressing the ladies in the beginning to his pushing Jessa near the end, I hope he ends up getting his own book where he gets all "tied up" figuratively speaking of course. I'd love to see him in love.

Even though I wouldn't classify this as a dark romance, I think this book would benefit from a trigger warning. Jessa's past rape is handled well in the book but Logan's hostile way of dealing with her, along with the bdsm elements should be noted in the synopsis. Overall, the initial flow issues aside, I loved the book. The action, the hot men and Jessa overcoming her past. I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out.

Jack is currently working (with his partner, Logan) with their own ops and security company. At the moment their main target is "Zane" and secondly, "Jay". Their current intel has led them to dismantle Maxwell Sparr's hacking, fraud and treason against the government.

However, Jack has another reason to do this - and it is personal. His love, Jessa, from ten years ago. This from when Jack worked as an undercover HS student. Jessa is dead due to Maxwell and his father's shady operations.

On a stakeout in Kentucky, Jack recognizes two women. Are they actually working as operatives for Zane and Maxwell? And can they really be who Jack believes they are? Either way, they are taken in as "prisoners" and then the real excitement begins!

A very suspenseful thriller with excellent character development. The story moves quickly with both action and determination. I really enjoyed this read and wait for the next book by Sheri Landry.

Many Thanks to Sheri Landry and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

This book is very cleverly written. The main characters are reunited after 10;years. Jack was under cover when he met Jessa in high school and he thinks she died in a tragic accident. When they meet again they are both working on different sides of the law. The storyline is gripping and builds to a explosive unpredictable ending. I will definitely be looking out for the next installment.

4.5 Stars

This is the first book in the Kill Code series by Sheri Landry

Basic premise: Jack thought Jessa died ten years ago. Now he is trying to find a group of hackers who were responsible for her death. It is then he finds that Jessa never died. In fact, she thought he was dead and had moved on with a family of his own (which was untrue). This group is lead by a horrific mad man who has his ties everywhere and seems unstoppable. Jessa has the key to his demise in her memory but she is blocking it all due to her earlier torture.

I thought this book was really great. It made you think and had you questioning everything at every turn. But I did think it was a bit to graphic in the horrific sense when they showed us the torture Jessa went through from Maxwell and then showed us it again when Logan was trying to “break” her. i thought that was unnecessary.

The point of view does jump around a bit and can be confusing at times but if you pay attention to the “voice” of the person, it should be easier to distinguish one from the other.

This is a relevant story and to my mind, a good one as well. Looking forward to seeing what other books in this series will look like. Definitely need some more Logan in my life.

If you enjoy a good mystery/thriller/romantic suspense, give this one a try, you won’t be disappointed!

I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title.

I had to take a minute to recover from the emotional ride this book took me on. There were so many twists and turns and unexpected moments and once it got going I couldn't put it down. I really hope this is the start of a series because I need to read more.

Excellent. Well written and told. It's an exhilarating story with plenty of twists and turns. There are some parts that are difficult to read so I caution you to use your judgement in reading this book. Happy reading!

Jack and Jessa are on opposite sides of law and that doesn’t stop them from loving each other. Exit plan is an amalgamation of long lost love, romance, suspense and crime thriller and is an exciting one at that. It took a bit long for me to get into the story line, but once in, it is captivating at best. Stands true to its description..

Exit Plan is the first book in the Kill Code series by Sheri Landry. I thought this was a good start to the series. Sheri Landry is a new to me author and I enjoyed the story and it held my attention throughout the book. The point of view jumps around a lot which I don’t typically like but other than that I thought it was a good book. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of this book, thank you netgalley and Sheri Landi.

I enjoyed the overall storyline of this book, I felt connected to the characters and enjoyed the fast moving pace of it. I did get confused slightly with how the chapters were set out, instead of the storyline moving forwards - it gave us Jessa’s perspective and then Jacks. Sometimes I found that slightly hard to follow.

But saying that, I did finish this in one day and really liked the actual storyline.

This is a fantastic start to a new action series that has plenty of romantic suspense and successfully sets up the plot for the sequel.
