Soul Raging was one of my most anticipated reads of the year. After the way Kings Falling ended, I had to get my hands on a copy as soon as possible. And wow, what an epic conclusion to the series!
True to Kendig's rapid-fire style, Soul Raging never let up on the action, intrigue, and suspense. There were times when I literally couldn't catch my breath because of the full-throttle, high-intensity excitement. I was on the edge of my seat for the majority of the book, reading as fast as I could, trying to guess what would happen next and constantly being shocked by all the twists and turns. This story definitely kept me guessing. I didn't know who to trust, at times, not knowing who was friend or foe.
This was one of the most insanely intense and thrilling reads I've read. It's not a standalone but since the series is now complete, I highly recommend binge-reading the whole series in one go. You won't regret it.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.
From the very first chapter I knew Kendig had done it again. Her ability to captivate my attention and draw me in to the story is always amazing.
Soul Raging is the long awaited series finale of the Book of the Wars. Lief Metcalfe is walking a risky line as he tries to uncover what happened during the gap in his memory. In this series we've seen Storms Rise, Kings Fall, and now a beloved Soul Rage. The adventures these pages uncover will keep you engaged and gasping.
Will Leif's unrelenting desire to know and understand his past be his undoing? Will those he's trying to protect in his quest for answers be the ones who pay the most unimaginable costs? Why can't anything ever be easy? Will Iskra's choice to believe in his best and do what Lief would do be at a cost she cannot endure? These are just a few of the questions that rise, fall, and rage throughout this spectacular story.
Threads from past stories are pulled in. Answers to lingering questions are revealed. And another great series ends. It's always something you want because you want to know how things end. But it's also something you don't want, because you don't want the story to be over. You don't want to be done and waiting on the next great book to be released. But now we wait ...
Thank you Bethany House for the opportunity to review this book. All opinions are my own.
As always, Kendig has created a masterful plot line that kept me on the edge of my seat. There were times I was sure a beloved character was a traitor and times I thought a traitor might turn out to be a decent sort. In the end, Soul Raging is a satisfying conclusion to The Book of the Wars series.
I recommend Soul Raging to Ronie Kiendig fans, and those who enjoy military fiction with a slice of romance. This is the third and final book in the series though so in order to fully grasp the dynamics of plot, characters, and setting, you should read these books in order.
An electronic copy from the publisher through Netgalley was used for review purposes. No compensation has been received.
I love a good antihero. I love stories where you’re not sure who’s good or bad, who you should be rooting for. Ms. Kendig is the MASTER at the antihero, and keeps you guessing right to the end of her stories as to who it is you should actually be behind. Soul Raging is no different. You’re instantly sucked into the action, and your loyalty will keep jumping throughout. A thrilling, action-packed, totally immersive conclusion to the Book of the Wars series.
I was provided a free copy of the book by the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Soul Raging was everything I wanted for the conclusion of this series and at the same time, absolutely nothing like what I expected it to be--in a good way. The way only Kendig can do.
This isn't a standalone book. In fact, I'd like to go a step further and say that even if you've read the first two (Storm Rising and Kings Falling), you might want to go back for a refresher. Better yet--start from the beginning and make a character list. 'Cause there are a lot of characters and storylines that overlap and intersect in beautiful ways, but it's easy to lose track of whose who and what their call signs (nicknames) are, let alone what team they're on. You can absolutely read all three books without this, but trust me--it'll come in handy!
This book was like stepping outside for a breath of fresh air in the middle of winter. It makes your heart race, the hair on your arms stand on end, and sends a jolt of awareness straight to your toes. But whew--it's refreshing, invigorating, and memorable. I loved it!
In the final installment of The Book of the Wars, Ronie Kendig brings readers on a wild adventure across the globe as characters we have fallen in love with begin the final battle prophesied in the series.
Leif Metcalfe has had about all he can take without getting any answers to what has happened to him. He decides to take matters into his own hands; a calculated risk that comes at a high price. He must now join forces with the very enemy he swore to fight against. Those he cares about are at a loss to understand his actions and how to help him come back to them and the man they know him to be. Iskra Todorova is most worried about his soul and knows more than anyone that the course he is on is not one he can survive for long. With not only Leif’s life at stake, Iskra fights for the safety of her daughter and to take down the man behind it all, Ciro Veratti. With a heavy heart, the Reaper sets out to hunt one of their own and in the process start the final battle from the Book of the Wars.
Ronie Kendig is a master when it comes to writing a story with intense detail, action, suspense and so much more. There are some books I read that can be considered lighthearted and simply flow with little attention to detail. I read them but don’t have to pay very close attention to get the gist of the story and follow along. Others, like anything Ronie Kendig writes, need to be read with a fine-tooth comb in order to not miss the important details and all the subtle hints given throughout to connect the story by the end.
Going along with that is following the series in order, so much of what she writes connects with the other books in the series; these are not ones that can be read out of order or as a standalone, each one needs to be read in the order it was written in order to follow the characters and story line on their journey. For fans of her previous work, you will not want to miss this one. I loved this series and felt a deep connection with the characters. The way she writes characters with such dynamic personalities is like no other writer out there. This is a great conclusion to a fun action-packed series and readers will thoroughly enjoy this edition to what is one of the best reads of the year for me. I recommend this to readers that have read the previous in the series and enjoy military thrillers with drama, action, suspense and so much more.
I received a complimentary copy of this title from the publisher. The views and opinions expressed within are my own.
Genre : Christian Fiction, Action, Military Suspense, Romance
My rating: 4.5 stars!
Language: Clean! (Though there is mention "cursing", and a character thinks about she used the f-word; meaning "friends". A character uses the word, "asinine")
Age Range: 17+
Content: Gun fights, explosions, death; it's all part of the action and military suspense. There is choking, knife wounds, and you get the picture.
Favorite Character: Leif, Baddar, Iskra, and Mercy
Favorite quotes:
"God's character does not change because we are hurt by a situation that does change."
"And he turned a new Leif, if you get my badly placed pun."
Conclusion:
This was an epic ending to the series, "The Book of the Wars". I wasn't sure how it would end, so the author kept me in constant suspense. There are twists and turns that leave you wondering who you can trust and who you can't. Characters who I never would have thought were betrayers - turns out they are.
Leif has some big choices to make. By now you start to understand that Leif has some part to play in the prophecies... but how does it end? Will he make the decisions that will alter the course of his life and in a sense, change the world as well?
Iskra I've really grown to love. Smart as whip, and definitely a kick-butt person, she will stop at nothing to protect and save those who she loves.
The character that surprised me the most was Mercy. There was a lot of character development there with her (and a with a certain Afghanistan man), that I ended up liking her even more. While there were times where I was annoyed with her, in the end, she still landed on my top favorite characters (who couldn't love a marvel loving character?).
Betrayal is at every twist and turn, and suspense is unending. The best quote of the book, which was a killer sentence - is also the last line of the book (an epic last line to an epic last book!). Want to know what it was? Go get your copy of "Soul Raging" today and find out for yourself.
Disclaimer: I was given a copy of this book through Bethany House Publishing. All opinions are my own and it is an honest review. Thank you to Bethany House Publishing for allowing me to apart of reviewing this amazing book!
Soul Raging- Ronie Kendig
Do you like rollercoasters? Twists and turns and terror and whoops! Another twist when you least expect it? Then you’ll like this book. I love Ronie Kendig’s writing, have since I was in my teens (and we’re not going to talk about how long that’s been!), and I have to say, I think each book is better than the last!
I highly recommend reading the whole series, or even better, reading the Tox files too, just so you understand the background of this story.
If you like clean, military, suspense, with a dash of futuristic (or at least we want to think they aren’t actually doing that to our soldiers, who knows! ) a touch of romance, globe trotting, Ancient artifacts with messages for today. Characters who lose faith in themselves, characters who refuse to lose faith in their friends. There is SO much going on in this story! Just... go get Soul Raging. You won’t regret it, honest.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
You know that feeling you get when you meet up with a best friend after a very long time, this is what I felt when I go this book. This is the final book in "The Book of the Wars series" and you should definitely read it in order. If you can you should also read "The Tox Files" before you read this series, since you meet Leif and other vital members of the team in that series.
Back to 'Soul Raging' - it was everything I've come to expect from Ronie Kendig. Action, action and more action. Heroes with a tender side (I totally felt Leif's struggle with getting answers to his questions and doing what he knows is right), twists and turns - there was so many "oh no" and "really!" moments, and Ronie Kendig's famous banter. At the end the story felt too short. I would have loved to spend more time with Leif and Iskra and Mercy, but the conclusion was really sweet. I am secretly hoping for a Novella.
I loved Canyon Metcalfe in this. A novella or series about the Metcalfe brothers would be high on my wish list.
But seriously, if you have never read Ronie Kendig's Military thrillers, you need need to give it a try.
I will keep reading anything new she brings out and are almost caught up on her backlist.
I thought I was ready for this book. I truly did. I blocked off the whole afternoon so I could read it uninterrupted. I psyched myself up and even did a bit of a recap on Kings Falling, because that ending… But there’s only so much preparation you can do for a roller coaster ride. At some point, you just have to get on and hang on. And in this case, the stomach-bottoming sensations began on page one. But just like a real roller coaster ride, I wanted to go again as soon as it was all over!
All metaphors aside, this was one wild ride. (Okay, almost all metaphors.) I’ve become hugely invested in these characters and felt like I was holding my breath as the events unfolded, wondering whether my trust had been misplaced in some instances or unjustly withheld in others. Not to mention wondering how many of them would live to see the end of the book.
Relationships were forged, tested, strengthened, crippled, resuscitated, lost, and restored (not necessarily in that order). Lives—and souls—hung in the balance. There was the trademark banter and camaraderie, even as tensions stretched to snapping point. And there was a climax that not only left my heart pounding but brought Leif’s personal journey to a powerful and meaningful conclusion. Wowsers doesn’t even begin to cover it.
No, Ronie Kendig’s books are not for the faint-hearted. But they are for those who love high-stakes action, fast-moving plots, and characters who are pushed to the outer limits of their endurance to find out what they’re really made of and what matters most.
"And wasn't that the point of salvation? The value placed on life, regardless of a subjective definition of worth?"
This conclusion to The Book of the Wars series is an incredible ride, filled with plot twists, plenty of battle, and betrayals upon betrayals that form a cohesive, complex, and intricately woven epic tale of good triumphing over evil even when stacked against impossible odds. This series definitely needs to be read in order to digest the details and to fully appreciate what makes Reaper team tick. This book has been on my list of most anticipated releases of 2020 and Ronie Kendig has truly outdone herself.
Spanning multiple countries, the Reaper team continues its search for the Armageddon Coalition and ways to bring down the its evil work to overtake the world. As the truth about Leif and the medically-enhanced soldiers spills out, the team is paralyzed and fractured when no one seems to be who they are supposed to be. There will be lots of gasps as pages are turned more quickly with each chapter to find out what happens next. And, yes, there is romance in the air, too, for several couples, which balances out the high-speed action nicely. This story is told through multiple third person narratives - Leif, Iskra, Mercy, Cell, Dru, Hermanns, and Veratti - and that helps gel the plot as the pieces click into place one at a time.
If you enjoy adrenaline-filled, masterfully woven suspense, you definitely want to read this book and the series. It's one of the best reads of 2020!
I received a copy of the book from Bethany House Publishing Group and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
Ronie Kendig’s final installment in her series, Book of the Wars, does not disappoint. Soul Raging kept me enthralled from start to finish. Once again, the action is non-stop, the emotional angst is intense, and the suspense is constant. The final battle is coming and Reaper isn’t sure who to trust. Can they trust each other? Join Leif Metcalfe, Iskra Todorova and the rest of Reaper as they race to save friends, family and the world from what Ciro Veratti and ArC are trying to accomplish. This intense finale definitely lived up to my expectations!
I was provided a copy by the publisher, but the opinions expressed in this review are my own.
The opening was thrilling. The middle was nail biting. The ending was intensely satisfying and well worth the wait for the conclusion of the The Book of The Wars series. I didn’t want it to end, but am always excited to see what Kendig will write next. “Soul Raging” was an intense read from the first sentence to the last and ohhh my, that final sentence made the whole series come to a thrilling conclusion.
“Leif had gone all Jason Bourne on them.”
I won’t lie, this was an emotional read with so many curve balls thrown, my head was spinning! As Leif disappears and Iskra takes off after him with a team not knowing if he’s turned on them or not, it left me not knowing who to trust and what would happen next. There is only so much I can divulge here without giving away the storyline. However, needless to say the rapid-fire fiction of Kendig is full steam ahead in “Soul Raging.”
“Canyon rolled around with a grin. Saito sniggered. “You love ticking him off.”
“One of life’s finer pleasures.” Canyon nodded to Iskra.”
Witty banter keeps this team going and is one of the great pleasure of reading this series. However, there is a whole aspect of distrust that darkened the storyline. Talking about who to trust, the Reaper Team had me going through every emotion in this book. Grief, love, sadness, fear, joy, hate and just pure happiness at the end. I could just feel the team’s emotions and that made the story come to life. Canyon Metcalfe added a whole new intensity to Leif’s character and Reaper, too. Iskra and Mercy were superheroes in my book and as always, I loved Mercy’s sense of humor. Cell drove me nuts, but then he drives the whole team nuts, so that sounds about right. This is not a read for the light-hearted as you never know who to trust and who will stick around until the end. However, the ending was sublime and well worth the ride. I loved it!
“God’s character does not change because we are hurt by a situation that does change.”
Powerful words that are a constant reminder of who God is in an ever-changing world. If you love action packed storylines, you’ll love this series. However, I highly recommend reading the entire series in order or you will probably be lost. It is well worth reading and now you don’t have to wait for the next book!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Soul Raging is nail-biting suspense right down to the last page. This is the conclusion of the series, and you’ll want to read Storm Rising and Kings Falling first.
This story picks up from Kings Falling, where Leif Metcalf seems to have turned to the dark side. Soul Raging continues to follow Leif as he struggles to fill in the missing gaps of his past, not to mention that his future is prophesized in the mysterious Book of Wars – and it’s pretty bleak. Leif leaves his team rather than put them in jeopardy.
The best part of this whole series has always been the characters. Readers will get a glimpse into Mercy’s past. Iskra is always a mysterious character and this novel much of her past comes back to haunt her. Canyon Metcalf makes an appearance to help save his brother. Cell always adds his whit to any situation. But the biggest plot twists come from trying to figure out who to trust. It tears the team (and the reader) apart. Could Leif really turn towards evil? Did Dru Illiescu set up Leif this whole time? Loyalties are tested and of course, no Ronie Kendig novel is complete without an epic showdown in the end!
If you started the series, you’ll be in for a thrilling and satisfying conclusion. If you haven’t started the series, you should get book one and be prepared to read all the way through until the very end. You won’t want to put it down.
Overall: 5 stars (I loved it, couldn’t put it down)
Suspense: 5 stars (Non-stop edge-of-your-seat suspense from start to finish)
I received an ebook review copy of this book through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
My head is SPINNING!!!!
This series, like the Tox Files, is not a series to be read with lots of time in between books. There are so many threads, so many characters, and so many names to keep straight. While I love the complexity, it's also frustrating because I can feel so lost. My biggest challenge is all the different names for the same characters. I can't keep those straight.
But despite how confused I get, I loved this series. I love the stakes, the pressure, the people, the puzzles, the mystery. It's so cool! Kendig writes amazing stories that are complex, intense, and like nothing I've ever read before.
Honestly, the ending felt a little anti-climactic for how much went on in the rest of the book. I'm still quite sure who all was good and bad in the end. How some threads came together was incredible (one of those things with multiple names for the same person). I will definitely be re-reading Tox and these, with some sort of system for tracking things this time. I did make one connection and I was super proud of myself for it :)
I love love love this Author and this series!! What a action packed suspense book this was!! A must for Christian action seeking booklovers!!
Is Leif Metcalfe a traitor? Hunting for answers he leaves his team in dark circumstances to find out the truth once and for all. The action is non-stop as Leif tries to stay ahead of team Reaper and Iskra Todorova and find answers to his past. This is the final book in The Book of the Wars series and does not disappoint. The final showdown between good and evil. Who will win? An epic conclusion to this series.
Well, Ronie Kendig delivers again.
Ronie stealthfully delivers truths like: “God’s character does not change because we are hurt by a situation that does change.” And “His character spoke of a higher road. And in the heat of the moment, in a split second of panic, she had let fear override and assume the worst.” Wow, isn’t it amazing how fear really can cause us to see things wrong, cause us to say things wrong, cause us to hurt others when—in the moment—we think we’re doing what’s best but in reality we aren’t seeing the truth. I love Ronie’s books because she’ll sweep you along in an epic story with fast-paced action scenes and engaging character but she’ll also give you something to chew on. And she gives it to you in the context of a situation—story—and never preaches it to you. That whole idea of show don’t tell. Yeah, Ronie Kendig is a master at that. I have so many more that I could quote but I’ll leave it to you to find your own that resonant with you. Just do me a favor and reply so I can reminisce and grow along with you!
This is a follow up series to the Tox files; I would not recommend this book as a stand alone read—just grab the entire series. It’s not a sit and get cozy book. This is a Jack Ryan, high-intensity read that zips you along and keeps you gripped within the storyline.
Thank you Netgalley and Bethany House for the ARC and the opportunity to leave a no-obligation, honest review of what I think of this read.
Wow! I finished this booked about half an hour ago and my heart is still racing!! That should tell you something!! It’s absolute heart-stopping action from the first page to the last! This book - and indeed the whole series - will keep you on the edge of your seat, and will definitely not leave you disappointed!
As this gripping series draws to a close in Soul Raging, we join Leif and Reaper as the final prophecy in the Book of the Wars seems to be about to come to pass, and the action builds to a massive crescendo!
And what a crescendo it is! But I’ll leave that for you to discover for yourself! This has been one of the most exciting, action-packed series I’ve ever read, and yet, impressively, it doesn’t come at the cost of getting to know the characters. There’s still plenty of space in the story for complex character development, despite the breakneck pace that the plot moves at. I really enjoyed the further development of Leif and Mercy as characters, after meeting them in earlier series. And I especially loved the dynamic between Leif and Iskra. Such a fascinating and unique dynamic that plays out between two incredibly complex, multi-faceted, broken and beautiful characters!
I’ve loved spending time in this universe and with these characters and it’s so very bittersweet that I’ve reached the end. I’m very satisfied with how it ended, but I’m devastated that the journey is over, and I have to say goodbye to the characters. It’s like leaving good friends! Especially Cell, after 6 whole books!
There’s SO much more I’d love to say, but it’s just so hard to say more without spoilers, so I’ll just finish by saying that if Bourne, Seal Team, or Indiana Jones are your thing, you do NOT want to miss this series!! Actually, if suspense is your thing at all, it’s an absolute must-read!
Ronie Kendig is fast becoming a favourite author of mine, and anything she puts out will definitely be an automatic must-read for me from now on!
Thank you to @kendigronie @bethanyhousefiction and @netgalley for the ARC. I was only required to provide an honest review in return.
Wow! What an ending to an amazing series! This book was definitely worth the wait! I read the whole thing in one sitting because I just couldn’t put it down! This was full of action that kept me on the edge of my seat! The last line of this book has stuck with me. I highly recommend this book and this series!
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.
“Oh my goodness!”
“What?”
“No!”
I think those are the phrases that I found myself thinking and even saying out loud on occasion, the most often while reading Soul Raging. From the opening line, “The devil was once an angel” to the last (you have to read it for yourself!!), this book sinks its claws in and does not let go!
Once again, Ms. Kendig did not disappoint, and with the final book in her “The Book of the Wars” series, she has hit another literary home run. As always, with her stories, Kendig drew me in and held me hostage during the high intensity, roller coaster ride of a plot that I have come to expect and love from her books.
Soul Raging is the long-awaited series finale of the Book of the Wars. Lief Metcalfe is negotiating an uncertain line trying to figure out what happened during the gap in his memory. Is our beloved hero truly a traitor? Who can we trust? Betrayal is around every corner. You will stay engaged, you will be shocked, you will guess wrong, and you might not be ok when it is all over.
Many of the other characters have significant developments in this book. You need to read the first two books in “The Book of the Wars” series- Storms Rising and Kings Falling. Otherwise, you will be lost and have a hard time understanding the storyline and the characters. If you are up to it, you could even go further back and read some of Ms. Kendig’s other military series, where several of these characters start to appear.
My favorite quote from the book was this- “God’s character does not change because we are hurt by a situation that does change.”
Oh, and you will not want to miss out on the last line of the book; it is an epic last line! But don’t take my word for it. Get your copy and read it for yourself!! But don’t skip ahead to do so.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from Bethany House Publishing Group and through NetGalley. I was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
Soul Raging by Ronie Kendig once again proves that Kendig is at the top of Christian thrillers. I have no idea how she creates and keeps up with the complicated plot lines and scenes from book to book. This is not a quick read even though you feel your heart racing and you want to read fast to know what is going to happen.
It is action packed with scenes that will have you holding your breath. The story took me on a wild and wonderful ride. You can read this book as a standalone but it would be a waste. Read all of them with the advantage that the entire series is available now.
I always look forward to her new releases. I don’t know how she does it, but she just keeps getting better. Be sure to have plenty of time to flip the pages in this one because you won’t want to put it down. I devoured it! Thank you,for more hours of edge-of-the-seat entertainment. I’m already looking forward to her next series.

I've been a fan of Ronie Kendig's for a long time. She knows how to bring in intense suspense and weave a story that has intriguing elements. Soul Raging is the last book in the Book of the Wars series and a satisfying conclusion. You get to see all the Reaper crew that were in books 1 and 2. There's a touch of romance, lots of suspense, conclusions to mysterious elements, basically the way you want a series to end. Fans of Ronie Kendig will enjoy it.
*I received a complimentary copy form Publisher via NetGalley. My review was not required.
Readers will not want to miss the Book of Wars series by award-winning author, Ronie Kendig! This final book is the epic conclusion to a series so in-depth and creative, readers will find themselves lost in the pages for hours at a time.
Kendig’s masterful creation of paramilitary stories is like no other. In this series, she has skillfully continued the story of a team of male and female characters who’s diversity, talents and magnetism captivate readers with a sense of heroism and yet, real-world personalities and problems. The amusing banter amongst the lovable Reaper team displays a team of friends, who are fiercely loyal to one another and their cause. As they work together to uncover the final prophesies in the Book of Wars and the panels that depict the Neiothen’s impact on Leif’s life, the plot thickens and loyalties stretch.
Kendig captures readers’ attention with intense scenes and gripping battles strewn throughout the book, equally balanced with a story of loyalty, friendship and romance. The added benefit of an imaginative, spell-binding supernatural element and how she manages to include just the right amount of all of this, is an attribute only she can deliver. I seriously did not want to put this book down. I simply couldn’t devour it fast enough.
To fully immerse yourself as a reader into this series, I highly recommend reading Storm Rising Storm Rising and Kings Falling (the Book of the Wars Book #2) Kings Falling respectively, before reading this final story. This series is “clean” and falls under the Christian fiction category, but can be perceived as edgy with its military environment, thus I believe even secular readers will enjoy this series. I highly recommend this series to adults and mature readers 16+.
Ronie Kendig is a master at writing suspenseful stories, and this series is no exception. After the cliffhanger of Kings Falling, I needed answers so badly. Soul Raging completely delivers those answers, along with more angst and screaming at the characters along the way. I really enjoyed the reversal character arc--Leif has some stuff figured out, but then...doesn't and his reaction is to go downhill before trying to go uphill (cue much screaming and nail-biting). And of course, snark and assassins and secret world domination plots all make this an intense, edge-of-your-seat, action-packed, thrill-ride of a conclusion to the Book of the Wars trilogy. Go check out this book and all her books because they're amazing!
~~I received a free copy from the publisher and was not required to write a positive review.~~
Oh my.
What a ride.
This book was very bittersweet for me.
I have absolutely loved this series, and I couldn't wait to read the ending.
And yet, there's just something about reaching the end of a lovely series about such amazing characters...I didn't really want to reach the end, you know...
Ronie Kendig did it again.
She's written a spellbinding tale of action, military intrigue, danger, team loyalty, and so much more.
If you haven't read the first two in the series, you will definitely want to go read them before starting this one, because this continues the threads of the other two.
I was a bit worried about Leif when I finished the previous book.
But this book gives a lot more details about what is going on with him.
Ronie's heroes are always very real. In spite of character traits that aren't always desirable, I just loved Iskra, Mercy, and Leif, and the rest of the team.
This tale is top-notch intrigue and lots of danger thrown in.
So many details, characters, events, lots of things going on, it is a racetrack ride from the first page to the very end.
The tie to the Book of Wars, to reach a satisfactory conclusion in this book, showing what all was really going on, this was written in such an exquisite manner.

For me, you can’t quite beat a Ronie Kendig book. Soul Raging is the final installment in her The Book of the Wars trilogy, and I have to say that it was my favorite (though I absolutely loved them all). Filled cover-to-cover with action, you can’t help but stay up late to find out what will happen next.
I would definitely suggest you read the trilogy in order, because the characters grow so much through the stories. Reading about them from the beginning makes their plight that much richer and even more exciting. And, because they are just so good, I’d even recommend you go back to the previous trilogy, The Tox Files, where some of the characters were originally introduced, to add another layer of depth and interest to the already rich characters and story line.
I feel like I waited so long for this book, and now I am so sad that I’ve finished it! But it was absolutely worth it. 🙂 I most highly recommend Soul Raging and the entire Book of the Wars series. Such great heart-pumping reads!

Many thanks to Bethany House Publishers and NetGalley for the digital copy of this novel for review purposes. I was not required to give a positive review. All opinions are my very own! 🙂
Soul Raging is an apt name for this third book in author Kendig's narrative that had my whole being in an uproar. After the twist ending of King's Falling, I was pretty anxious to get back into this trilogy and see how everything could be resolved. And there seemed liked a lot. There were so many moving parts and everything at times seemed chaotic until it all fit together in a unique puzzle that made sense.
Like Leif and his team, I too felt off kilter with all the events that were happening. Who were the friends, the enemies? Truth and lies and prophesies were intertwining and nobody knew what to believe. I liked that this core team did what they did best. They searched out and trusted and had faith that what their ultimate goal, finding the truth and stopping the evil, would be achieved. Their camaraderie was most welcome and their tenacity at the mission was resolute.
I recommend this book, starting with book one and maybe do some binge reading. Especially if you are looking for a team oriented story, with romance, friendship, twisty twists (like I didn't see that coming moments and shocking revelations), and a bit of end times thrown in.

Well, Ronie Kendig once again writes a mind-bending story. The final installment of The Book of the Wars series, Soul Raging was full of unexpected moments. Will Leif finally discover what happened to his missing six months? Will the team be able to defeat ArC and get the book of wars before more destruction happens?
This book was filled with questions of who you could truly trust. Could the enemy be one of the good guys? Or are some of the good guys really the enemy? Will team Reaper be able to stop the final battle prophesied in the book of Wars?
I devoured this book so quickly because I could not wait to see what was coming next. Each chapter felt like a cliff hanger and I definitely stayed up late to read a few nights.
Ronie Kendig finishes out her Book of the Wars series with Soul Raging, and wow! Just wow!
First, how Kendig still shocks me after spending time in three books with team Reaper is both remarkable and satisfying. As they hunt down ArC while dealing with the repercussions of one of their own turning on them, twist, turns, and downright loop de loops kept me turning the pages as fast as I could.
Not only is Soul Raging an epic conclusion to a fantastic series filled with action, suspense, and a just the right touch of romance, it digs deeper. It’s a story about what’s happening behind the façade and loyalty.
I’ve now spent three books with these characters (well, a little more with a few of them since they were also in The Tox Files series), and they continue to stand out. They’re brave, loyal, fierce, strong, and memorable.
In conclusion, take a deep breath, hang on tight, and enjoy the ride.
Disclosure statement: I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Soul Raging is the third and final book in Ronie Kendig‘s The Book of the Wars trilogy. We meet Leif Metcalfe in Ronie Kendig’s previous series, The Tox Files, and in The Book of the Wars, we watch him lead his own team to save the world from disaster. Soul Raging picks up where the previous book, Kings Falling leaves off.
When reading a Ronie Kendig series, it’s important to begin at the beginning. Why? Because the essence of Soul Raging is a massive spoiler for the ending of King’s Falling. The final scene in King’s Falling is such a cliff-hanger, you have to read the first two books in The Book of the Wars series before picking up Soul Raging. It also means I won’t provide much of a summary because you need to read the previous books first. Trust me, it’s worth it! (If you have any doubt, here are my reviews of Storm Rising and Kings Falling.)
Getting the full impact of Soul Raging is definitely worth reading all six books. Soul Raging is that good. that suspenseful. that emotional. It’ll simultaneously take your breath away while causing you to hold your breath. Frankly, I’m not sure I breathed through the final pages. Admittedly, the one downside to this level of suspense is that I wanted to know what happened so much that the details about the prophetic, scientific, and technological pieces often whooshed right over my head. I think that means I just need to read the series again so I can appreciate those details better.
Part of why Soul Raging is so impacting is because I started Leif’s journey in the previous series. Mercy and Cell’s, too. These characters meant something to me because of the previous series. Leif was one of my favorite characters, so I was thrilled when I discovered he got his own series in The Book of the Wars. That means this series is quite the ride, watching him go through all he goes through in Soul Raging (and yes, I’m being cryptic because you seriously need to read it for yourself).
The takeaway? If you love gritty suspense that wraps itself around your heart, you need to read this whole series, but especially Soul Raging. It closes The Book of the Wars series in resounding fashion.

Soul Raging was a fabulous conclusion to the Book of the Wars series. This is book three in the series and you definitely must read books one and two in order to know what is going on in this novel.
The author once again brought together heart-pounding action, hints of romance, prophecy, and characters that you just don’t know if you can trust!
These characters, all of them, felt so real and my connection to them grew with each novel. That made it hard to watch as various ones made tough decisions that sometimes didn’t seem to make sense. But, as always, this author pulled all of the threads of the story together and wrapped up the series in a very emotionally satisfying way.
I really enjoyed this series and recommend it to those looking for military action packed with secrets and spies and all things covert!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
An action packed conclusion to an intense series. Did I mention intense? A race to save the world at great cost written in Kendig's unique style.
Soul Raging forced me to commit a terrible reading sin. I couldn’t bring myself to turn to the back the book, but I needed to know something. Or else keep reading whilst half hiding from the text. So I begged a friend who’d already read it. If this level of investment in a character seems silly to you, you’ve probably never read a Ronie Kendig novel.
From the first time I heard about this series, over coffee with a friend, the idea fascinated me. Imagine a secret book that holds the details of every war in history, and a race of super soldiers. What Kendig did with this idea is astonishing. To weave such a diverse crew, allow them to drop into trouble anywhere across the globe with such ease, shows remarkable skill.
The promise that was made in the first book, Storm Rising has been fulfilled in this, third and final offering. With ever increasing complexity and the lines between good and evil muddied, readers are left guessing as to the final outcome until the very (cheer inducing) end.
Storm Rising, Kings Falling and Soul Raging are excellent books and highly recommended for lovers of thrillers, black ops, romantic suspense or all round epic reads.

Ronie Kendig writes like no one else. Every book keeps me glued until the very end. I can’t read fast enough! This is a roller coaster ride that’s the perfect ending to a great series. I hate to tell these characters goodbye!
My head is SPINNING! I definitely forgot to breathe a few times throughout this book, and I loved every minute of it. Soul Raging immediately pulls you up from the cliff Kings Falling left you dangling from and then dives right over the edge with you along for the ride.
Ronie Kendig is such a master at putting me through the emotional gamut with her nonstop action and suspense. There were tears, I wanted to smack a few characters upside the head a few times, romance was rooted for and my fingernails are noticeably shorter than when the story started. Talk about sticking the landing! Kendig stunned me with the entire Book of the Wars series and I cannot wait to see what she’s cooking up next!

I am reviewing a copy of Soul Raging through Bethany House Publishers and Netgalley:
Sometimes our only hope is the enemy.
Leif Metcalfe is tired of waiting for answers so he ceases control, but ceasing control is a move that comes with a high price and a deadly risk, teaming up with the enemy.
Iskra Todrove is under the impression that Leif is on a collision course with death when he teams up with the enemy. She knows firsthand the cost of that path to the soul, and knows it’s not something you can change. Iskra finds herself being forced to set her sights on the man behind the evil organization ArC--Ciro Veratti, while at the same time protecting her daughter and intervening with Leif.
Team Reaper hurts one of their own when they are torn apart by opposing views on how to handle Leif’s betrayal of trust to the team. The one thing they can agree on is not stopping but starting the final battle prophesied in the Book of the Wars.
If you’re looking for a book of action, intrigue and Suspense, let me recommend Soul Raging, you’ll enjoy the adventure.
I give Soul Raging five out of five stars!
Happy Reading!
An absolute thrilling conclusion to The Book of War series by Ronie Kendig. In this book Lief Metcalf goes off on his own to find answers to the mystery he has tried to solve for years. What happened during the six months that he can not remember. Loyalties are questioned and it is hard to know the difference between the good and the bad guys. To me this book showed the bond between our soldiers. How closely knit they become. And how they depend on each other and yet have to be very careful about who they trust. Ms. Kendig does not pull any punches. The action is fast paced and heart stopping. This is not a stand alone. You really need to read Storm Rising and Kings Falling before reading this book. In full disclosure I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
My oh my! Ronie Kendig has done it again. I was cursing her name at the end of Kings Falling, and now I am back to singing her praises. This entire series has been nothing but intensity, action, suspense, and intrigue with a few dashes of true love for good measure. Did I mention intensity? WHEW!
Kendig's characters are so vivid in your mind that you love them and yell at them all in the same chapter. They are perfectly flawed yet lovable. I don't know how she does it so well, but she is a master of character development. If you thought that was high praise, we haven't even made it to the plot yet. Every time I finish a Kendig novel (and there is no putting it down... i just read and read until it's done), I feel like I have been holding my breath for hours. Soul Raging was no exception, if the title gives any indication. This story captivates you from the first page and holds you until the very end. OH, and that last line?! Can we talk about that? Kendig could not have ended this series any better. Bravo, Ronie, for another story well written and a job well done.
This book was another amazing, fast paced, heart stopping, twists where you never expected it kind of read I've come to expect from Ronie Kendig. It is such an exciting conclusion of the series and adds some beloved characters from her other series. It was such a great book, well worth my time to read.
Wow. Talk about an epic ending. I mean, it doesn't get any better than this. I've been a fan of Kendig's for awhile, but it seems like her writing somehow gets better and better, as if that's even possible based on my love for her previous books! Soul Raging is explosive. It is engaging. It is by far my favorite of the series. Trust me when I say it will knock your socks off.
I don't even know where to begin honestly. It's packed with action, suspense, surprises, and yes even a little bit of romance (not like the mushy stuff - it fits in well with the rest of the novel). You will not be able to stop the pages from turning. Why? Because you get so engaged in the plot, and with the characters that you don't have time for anything else. You have to know what happens. I mean Leif going rogue!? I knew I wouldn't be able to stop once I started reading, and I was right (I mean work and family aside of course lol).
Here's the thing. Things aren't always what they seem, which is a truth that is woven throughout the pages of this story. And we can learn from that in real life as well. Unless we are put in someone else's shoes - we have no idea why they do certain things, why they act a certain way, or whatever. And shame on us for assuming. You know what that means! :) Thank you Kendig for reminding me of that very fact.
But here's the other part of the story - loyalty. This group of characters, for the most part, is fiercely loyal. They are family, although not by blood. And that is a lesson all on its own right there.
This series is one that I know I'll read again. It is fast paced, so make sure you have your seatbelts on! Definitely one of those series you want to binge read, over and over again. Highly recommend. I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Soul Raging is the long-anticipated conclusion to the Book of the Wars series — and boy is it a thrill ride around the world! The foundation and riveting twists in Storm Rising and Kings Falling set the stage for the even higher stakes of Soul Raging, making this series one best enjoyed in order. By book 3, Ronie Kendig has uniquely set up a situation where the reader is unclear on whether the good guy is going to be the bad guy… or if any of the beloved characters are actually playing both sides.
I am in AWE of Ronie Kendig’s storytelling skills with her edge-of-your-seat action, deep themes, character team dynamics, and thrilling twists. Unexpected in many ways, it is still wonderfully familiar with plenty of humor and adrenaline. I especially appreciate the theme of sacrifice and a subtle thread of faith connecting the characters to their purpose.
If you have been following the series so far, all of your questions will be answered — and some twists revealed you never saw coming — in this perfect conclusion to the Book of the Wars saga. I’m ready to read it all again!
Thank you to Bethany House for the review copy. This is my honest review.
What an END! Whew...
This was one wild and crazy ride. For part of it (ok, a good chunk of it) I had no idea how Kendig was going to wrap this up! I was thinking...but surely there's no way that Leif can come home! But yet, she pulled it off with finesse and that was at once believable and also heart-pounding. (That close-to-end scene anyone???).
I love the fast-paced nature of Kendig's books and love that this was no exception. I also really loved to see Leif in this book as well. He really makes the book what it is!
And that ending...I won't say anything but it was just right!
100% recommend to fans of fast-paced, excellently written and plotted books! You'll love this series and can binge the whole thing now - it'll be worth it, trust me!
My rating: 5*
Ronie Kendig does not mince on the action. This was a perfect ending to a series I am so sorry to say goodbye to <3 Leif and his team might just face their greatest challenge because not only are they after a terrorist, a supernatural one at that but also dealing with a break of trust within their own group. And that ending... perfection ;-)
Anyone in the audience like ALL. OF. THE. FEELS. in their reads? How about characters with depth, nuance, and complexity? Orrr...a potentially world-ending, apocalyptic level event that only a team of prophesied warriors can stop? Anyone?
Because, y'all. This book *delivers* all of the above, and so much more.
Let me take you back for a sec. I first discovered Ronie Kendig through the Tox Files series and had my socks blown wayyy off. Like, how could one author be this good? And why on EARTH was I so late to the party?
Then I started the Book of the Wars trilogy and realized she could actually top herself. Repeatedly. (Although the Tox Files will never not be my favorite. #toxenforever. I'm just saying.)
And Soul Raging was the incredible conclusion to an epic, heart-rending, pulse-spiking adventure. And now it's over. I may not recover.
Through betrayal, loss, shattering revelations, and a hefty dose of sci-fi magnificence, this book delighted and enthralled me and blew my mind. I thoroughly enjoyed the team dynamics and that ending. THAT ENDING melts me. This book was pure adrenaline and a wild roller coaster of emotions that only Ronie Kendig could deliver.
In case it wasn't totally obvious...I highly recommend this book, this series, and this author.
FIVE STARS for one of the best parts of 2020.
Note: I received a copy of this book for FREE from the publisher. A positive review was not required.
Kendig had me holding my breath from the very first page. To be honest I feel like I’ve been holding it since I read the last chapter of Kings Falling, which is the previous book in this series. Soul Raging had me questioning everything I thought I knew about Reaper, a team bend on protecting people from threats they’ll never know existed. But what happens when they worry that one of their team members might be one of those threats. Trust is hard to earn, but all to easy to shatter. Can Leif show his team that he’s doing what needs to be done without telling them everything?
I could not imagine the twists and turns this story took. Crazy and terrifying scenarios that left me reeling and yet I couldn’t stop reading. Kendig is obviously the master of suspense, and I love that I can never guess how a story will turn out. Let me tell you, she’s left me heartbroken before, and that keeps me nervous and hopeful until the very end. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Military Suspense. There is just the perfect amount of romance mixed in. I received a copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers and was in no way forced to post a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Soul Raging is book three in The Book of Wars series, You really need to read book one, Storm Rising, and book two, Kings Falling before you read this one. I truly enjoy this entire seres, however there are many times when I was a little lost or confused but just keep reading and many things become clear.
We are introduced to Leaf Metcalfe and the entire Reaper team in book one. I love that we continue to connect with the entire team throughout all this series. If you enjoy books that lead into the next you will love this series. It is packed with action, mystery, twist and turns, and so much more.
I was given a copy of this book for my honest review.
Ronie Kendig.... need I say more? If this author isn't already sitting right at the top of your 'favourite' pile, then you need to rearrange. She is one of those writers that you pre-order books from because you know that whatever she puts out is going to be epic.
I am a massive fan of her latest two series, the Tox Files and The Book of The Wars, in which fantasy combines with reality which embroils itself into prophesy. She makes you ask if the impossible is possible and to question if the truths of reality are really what they seem? These books hurtle you on a wild adventure that is literally impossible to leap off of. Fair warning: Once you start these books, you won't be sleeping until you finish.
Soul Raging is the final book in The Book of the Wars series. It is a nail biting adventure in which Leif finally uncovers the glaring answers of his past and who he really is. His team is left with some dramatic choices as they need to decide who and what they trust.... and to what extent. The lines between friend and enemy blur as Leif and his team fight to take down an enemy that is much bigger than themselves and one that is, perhaps, even within themselves.
An excellent book to finish up an unforgettable series. Make sure to read the Tox Files before jumping into The Book of the Wars series. Order is important here.
Ronie Kendig does not mince on the action. This was a perfect ending to a series I am so sorry to say goodbye to <3 Leif and his team might just face their greatest challenge because not only are they after a terrorist, a supernatural one at that but also dealing with a break of trust within their own group. Wow! The Book of the Wars series finished with a bang - a very literal one. I don't even know what to say about this book because it was such a wild ride from beginning to end. The storyline between the three books continues unbroken, so this book picks up right where book two left off. I also don't know how to review this without giving any spoilers, so perhaps I'll just keep it brief and say . . . wow. Definitely read this series if you enjoy fast paced thrillers in which the fate of the entire world rests on a few select people. The action is never ending, the plot twists just keep coming, and this book is entirely, 100% un-put-down-able. Well done, Kendig! I can't wait to read this author's next book.
FTC Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for promotional purposes. I was not required to write a positive review. These are my honest thoughts and opinions.
From the very first line of this book to the last, I found I needed to remind myself to BREATHE!
Wow! Like the two other books in this series, I was captivated and amazed at the intense drama each of these characters went through.
What Ronie Kendig does to her characters is beyond anything I could think up. I don’t know if I’d like to be in one of her books.
However, I do LOVE to read about it and experience all of it from the safety of my own chair and cozy home. Unfortunately, while sitting in my chair I was sometimes gripping the seat and trying not to stop or look away from the book. There were parts in the book where I also wanted to shake a few of the characters up for how they were acting. I loved all the tension, dialogues, emotions, and actions of everyone in this book. They were relatable even though at times they seemed larger than life.
Ronie Kendig knows how to twist and turn the story in such a way you don’t see what’s right in front of you and when you see it, you can’t believe it! Many times I thought I knew who the true bad guys were and then I was proven wrong!
If you want to read a book packed full of intrigue, suspense, action (LOTS OF ACTION!), drama, military struggles, and a bit (well maybe more than a bit)of romance, then this is the book for you!
You might need a day or two to process all that happens in this book.
Believe me, you won't be able to breathe deeply until the end, but it will be worth it.
There were a few nights when I looked up from reading and it wasn’t as early as I thought. Meals were missed or casually thrown together because I just couldn’t put it down!
I highly recommend reading this book and the whole series.
Pick it up it will take you on the adventure of your life.
I was given this book by the publisher which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Can they prevent the end of the free world?
After reading the first two books in The Book Of The Wars series you can imagine how anxious I was to finally find out what was going to happen to Reaper and crew. Would ARC succeed? Would the world as we know it end forever? Could Reaper save the day? Could Leif and Iskra survive the lies and manipulation around them to find their way back to each other? Lots of questions...but would I like the answers...?
I kinda wondered about the title when I first picked up my Kindle and saw it, but, as it turns out, Soul Raging couldn't have been more fitting. It seemed like not only was Leif's soul raging but so was everyone else's. Betrayal, fear, anger, all of it seemed to be driving each member of Reaper to the breaking point. Not to mention the insane villains bent on death and world domination.
Ronie Kendig really amped up the danger, intrigue, and angst in this final The Book Of The Wars novel.. Honestly, not something I thought possible after reading the first two, but she succeeded on a massive scale. Soul Raging was a very strong conclusion to Ronie Kendig's gritty series that skillfully mixes military thriller with supernatural suspense. So, one question remains...will you accept this mission and start reading?
