<em>The magic of Disney -- in your kitchen!</em>
Disney has, for many people and myself included, kind of become a<em> huge </em>part of our lives. I've had the fortune of visiting the Disney theme parks on several occasions throughout my life. So, a variety of the foods that are mentioned within these pages are foods that I have tried. It's definitely a lucky thing, me being able to come at this book with that experience. And in that vein, I have a few thoughts about this cookbook beyond just being excited to try the recipes within them.
<b>The Introduction</b>
I know a lot of cookbooks start out with these. And, sure, the history was interesting to learn about. At the same time, though, I can't help feeling that it was just too long. I wanted to get to the bulk of the book, the recipes, sooner. And part of this, I think, comes from the fact that I already know quite a bit about Disney. Some of it, therefore, felt pointless.
Perhaps the greatest thing about this book, though, was the fact that each recipe section comes with a map and short description that tells you where the food is from. Even if I don't go to Disney with this map, it's a great option regardless.
<u>Appliance Purchases</u>
I found it kind of interesting that the author mentions her privilege of growing up in Anaheim, California. It is true that living near Disney is a privilege not afforded most. It's also true that being able to visit on a regular basis falls into that category. And I remember thinking about this as I read the list of materials needed for the recipes. Craft references multiple kinds of blenders, a pressure cooker, stand mixer, and even an ice-cream maker.
There's nothing wrong with this, exactly, but just looking at that list was overwhelming for me. I'm not the sort of person who spends a lot of time in the kitchen. I also have a <em>small</em> kitchen that couldn't possibly hold all those appliances. And a number of them can be expensive. And I kept thinking back to that privilege comment. How many people have the money to buy all of those? Who has a small kitchen like mine and couldn't fit them? How many people live in an apartment and face both of those struggles?
To Craft's credit, she does explain that one can create many of these items without the appliances. Though it is true that the devices make preparation quicker and easier.
<b>The Photographs</b>
Point blank, there weren't enough. I honestly think it was a <em>massive</em> missed opportunity that entire pages were wasted on single photos. With the understanding that including photos in books can be expensive, I think Craft's book would have been <em>far</em> better if the photographs were smaller, included on the main page of the recipe, and more recipes had them.
There were so many recipes where I really just wanted to have a visual for the food. And it was immensely irritating to see so much space wasted on minimal, yet <em>giant</em>, photographs. It just felt wasteful.
<b>The Food</b>
Unarguably the most important part of the entire thing is the food. And Craft doesn't disappoint here. The book is filled with a large variety of absolutely exciting Disney food that entices even me, a proud hater of cooking, into the kitchen. And that's not something I can say often.
I can honestly say that I don't foresee myself making every single recipe in this book. It's cool that she included one for the colored milks, but I frankly don't see much point in making it myself. I'm an adult with no kids, after all. Even the Mickey pretzel, as much as I love it, is something I would probably tweak (I like cinnamon sugar better than salted). And in general, I don't cook much.
The question is, how much can I convince my boyfriend to make?
<em>I was provided a free copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.</em>
I received an ARC of this book thanks to NetGalley and publisher Adams Media in exchange for an honest review.
I was very curious and a little skeptical when I saw this book. I have never been lucky enough to go to Disneyland USA and so, while I have seen many photos of delicious-looking food online, I have never been able to try any myself. When I saw this book I really wanted to give it a read and I'm so glad I did!
Firstly, this book is perfectly presented. It really captures the Disney feel and I loved how the recipes were divided by park, with a cute map to tell you exactly where each food is sold. I wasn't sure how accurate this book would be in terms of recipes, but it is genuinely all food from the park and it doesn't just stick to the generic recipes either. The effort is clear on every page and it really pays off.
The recipes themselves are pretty varied and there's a great mix. I like how many of them are very accessible and either don't require a great deal to make or else they require things you would likely already have as a cook. I will say, this is an american book and some of the ingredients aren't super common in the UK. This isn't a huge issue as you can usually get the ingredient somewhere (or substitute it) and it was maybe 3 or 4 of the recipes it applied to, but it's something to be aware of as a UK reader.
Overall, this book is a real treat for Disney fans. It was everything I wanted from the title and the recipes themselves seem a whole lot of fun. I definitely recommend it for the Disney fan in your life.
Overall Rating: 5/5 stars
No stone is left unturned and it seems that all of the fan favorites, old and new, are included in this book. From the shores of Africa, the land of Germany, the streets of Mexico and a galaxy far away, the treats will blow your mind. The recipes are easy to follow. Each accompanied by an origin story as well as tips and tricks to make some dishes faster. There are desserts, drink, and full meals within the pages, as well as the grey stuff, simply delicious.
Disney fans as well as culinary fans will enjoy this book for decades.
We're Disneyland annual passholders, and during the past six months we've really been missing our park. This comprehensive cookbook is a great way to have a little Disney magic until the parks reopen. There are two things we always get on every trip: the clam chowder (in a sourdough bowl) and of course, the Dole Whip. Both recipes are included in this book, and I can't wait to try them out! There are many, many other recipes that look great for things that I haven't tried yet, so those will be fun, too! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC for review.
As a Disney aficionado, I can say that I've eaten many of the dishes featured in this book at the parks! Classics like the Dole Whip and Mickey pretzels are included as well as newer favorites like Cheeseburger Steamed Pods and Ronto Wraps.
This book has several chapters, each focusing on a different Disney park and the foods that can be found there. The chapters begin with a map of the park with the locations of where to find the items. This isn't necessary for the recipes but adds the Disney ambiance and nostalgia. My only issue with the maps and recipe descriptions is that they mention the area in the park where the item can be found, but don't always mention the name of the restaurant or store where it is purchased. Photos of every recipe are not provided, but the ones that are featured are bright, colorful, and appealing.
The recipes themselves are not usually kid-friendly, as many are from-scratch and shortcuts aren't often taken (e.g., for the macaroni and cheese hot dogs, you use pre-made dogs but the mac & cheese is from scratch). Some recipes incorporate shortcuts like pudding mix and pre-cooked chicken. Harder to make items like pastry, pasta, and bread are often purchased rather than made. There are also simple recipes or add-ons like the Mickey waffles (p. 93) that use the waffle recipe from another chapter and add toppings like Nutella and fruit that would be easy and great for kids. Some of the cookie recipes might be okay for kids to help with, but many recipes are complicated and will require equipment amateur chefs may not own (e.g., ice shaver, steamer basket, immersion blender, popsicle molds).
All in all, there is a nice mix of simple and harder recipes that would make this a great resource for any Disney fan. Inexperienced chefs can start with simpler recipes and work their way up to the more complicated ones. This book will be a go-to reference for Disney Parks fans for years to come.
I am not a huge Disney girl, but after going for the first time as an adult, I can appreciate the detail they put into the parks in general and into the food. I love that the food really goes along with the rides and the atmosphere.
As Ashley Craft says in her intro to Epcot, this park is really focused on the food with the circle of nations and I loved walking around and eating and drinking my way around the world, so it was fun to see some of those things in this cookbook.
There are two things that I picked out to make and can't wait to get the ingredients to try them - the carrot cake cookies AND of course, the Dole Whip!
A RECIPE BOOK LIKE NO OTHER!
When I saw this book I knew I wanted it. It was love at first sight.
I waited, agog , full of anticipation to be approved of this title and when I was I just clapped to myself like a happy, little girl.
I love themed restaurants, parks or anything with a THEME. One of the items on my bucket list/ travel list is to visit DISNEYLAND and DISNEYLAND WORLD. This book was my way to vicariously visit and eat all the lovely treats and noshes of DISNEYLAND. This book was a DELIGHT to say the least.
It is worth experiencing it! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
- It has all the utensils and items listed in alphabetical order, quite impressive.
- It wakes up the INNER, NONCHALANT child in you and oh so beautifully!
- All the recipes are not just plain old recipes out there but it also has information about how and when and where it started. So that’s good to know.
I haven’t tried all the recipes yet but I have selected which ones they are going to be:
CHEESEBURGER SPRING ROLLS from Adventureland , Magic Kingdom
Every dish from the EPCOT, I have this quirk that I want to TRY EVERYTHING when it comes to food, EAT FIRST , DECIDE LATER! Drinking and eating from around the world!
So getting the best of both worlds (scrumptious food right at your fingertips, maple popcorn , DOLE WHIP, cheesiest Mac and cheese, JUNGLE JULEPS, GOLD PORT GALLEY LEMONADE, ICE CREAM SANDWICH and so much more )
Forgive me if I have sent your stomach rumbling and mouth watering.
So will you try making the dishes from “ THE HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH” or the “ MOST MAGICAL PLACE ON EARTH”?
If you are tempted to say BOTH , good news, you can as this book entails recipes from both the places ! Yay!
Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for sending me an e ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is one cookbook I will be requesting for Christmas. Who does not like Disney Park foods? And what a great way to have them cheaper and year round than buying this book. The recipes are varied and a good mix of different types of food and drink. We tried the dole recipe, churros and beef skewers and they were all fantastic and the recipes were easy to follow. There is still a lot of recipes I want to try but need to get ingredients like the mint juleps so I’m excited to try those. You can’t go wrong giving this book as a gift this holiday season.
I cannot wait to purchase finished copy of this cookbook. My husband and I made a few recipes from the book. Funnel cakes, Dole whip and churros turned out great. Can't wait to make more. This is definitely a must buy for the Disney fan in your life.
This was a fun look into the world of Disney and the foods you often see in their dining establishments. My favorite part of this cookbook was the history of each of the parks and their signature dishes, I felt like that was a nice introduction that both kids and the kids at heart can enjoy. I also really appreciated the map of all the Disney parks with special notations of where each recipe can be found throughout all the restaurants. I know when I think of Disney food, my thoughts go immediately to The Grey Stuff found at the Beauty and the Beast restaurant at Magic Kingdom, and this cookbook of course lists this Disney favorite as a recipe. I feel like the recipes are broken up nicely with the occasional image of certain dishes, stirring up the nostalgia of folks who miss the Disney parks but are interested in recreating a special recipe. Thank you to Netgalley and Adams Media for this advanced look at this upcoming cookbook, I can't wait to attempt my own version of these Disney classics!
I received an advance copy of, The Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook, by Ashley Craft. I love this cookbook, this would be a great Christmas present for the Disney lover in your life. The recipes are great and easy to follow, their pictures of most of the food, and fun facts about the food.
I have always loved Disney. Some of the best family vacations I remember from childhood were of us piling in the car and driving to Disney. There's something about the whimsy and magic that just makes everyone more happy and at ease. I went to Disney before my wedding, on my honeymoon, and my one year anniversary. I even have a Disney Crockpot set and my nice silverware are, yup you guessed it, Disney. Obviously when I saw a Disney cookbook I knew I had to check it out.
Ashley Craft is a fellow Disney addict. She grew up going often and found there's even more to love when you're a grown up. Food plays a huge role in the experience. Craft breaks down each Disney location (complete with a map) of some of the best food items the parks have to offer. Craft then gives an easy and often affordable recipe for some of the park classics. Things such as the Gray Stuff, Churros, and Mickey Pretzels are all included.
Besides sounding amazing and giving me a serious longing to go back to Disney, this cookbook was so fun! I love knowing that I can create the Disney magic in my own home. I like that none of the ingredients are difficult or one use items. I think the only thing I don't have is a fryer, but I can rig something for that easily enough.
Overall, this book was magical! I gave it 5 stars and can't wait to grab a printed copy, right in time for the holidays! I might even make our Christmas meal Disney themed this year (especially since travel isn't looking likely!). Thanks to NetGalley and Adams Media for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!
A fun way to experience the Disney Parks from home at a time when we need that option more than ever.
If you’re a parks regular or semi-regular, this cookbook is part fun nostalgia trip, and part opportunity to finally answer the frequent question we ask about our favorite park foods:
Just what exactly is in this stuff?
Dole whips feel like the obvious example here, but there are many others in the book that fit the bill.
It’s a good selection, hitting the majority of the most popular park treats and curated nicely for a variety of items from each of the Florida and California parks.
The book is of course gorgeous and colorful and thus extremely on brand for Disney, the visual highlight being the delightful park maps showing where each of the items featured for that park’s recipes are located on the grounds.
The photography beautifully done, though I wish the author had chosen to either include a photo of every item or had made different choices about which items were photographed.
I know what a churro looks like, as do most people. But unless you’ve actually tried them at the park, you likely have no idea what the Disney chefs mean by Troll Horns or what makes a float specifically a Peter Pan float. If space/cost was an issue, smaller photos in order to include more items would have been more than fine.
In all, a treat both to read and cook from. I think I’ll try the Grey Stuff next. I’ve heard it’s delicious.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing this ARC. As a veteran of uncountable trips to Walt Disney World, I enjoyed reading this cookbook (Full disclosure, I haven’t made any of the recipes yet). The recipes look perfect, both in my experience of eating these items at the parks and even a few for which I have the official Disney recipe from the chef. Overall, a great addition to your cookbook collection for any Disney fan.
Thank you #Netgalley for the advanced copy of this cookbook!
I was so excited to get early access to this cookbook! Being a big disneyland fan, season pass holder, I was excited to find some of my favorite food items listed in this book. I can't wait to replicate some of the desserts, especially the churros, sugar cookies and macaroons! The illustrations and visuals throughout the book are great! A fun cookbook and would make for a great gift for a Disney lover!
This is a lovely little book that would be a perfect gift for fans of Disney! I was hoping for some recipes from some of the non-US parks too, so that I could try to make something I've tasted for accuracy, but even though that wasn't the case, I really enjoyed the variety of treats and snacks available here. The book is peppered with tidbits of history alongside the recipes, which were fun to read, and I liked that each section had a map so you could see where in the park they were sold - it helped to add to the sense of authenticity. It's well-presented, with nice bright colours, and would be a great addition to a Disney-lover's kitchen!
I am not a huge Disney girl, however, I want to eat everything in this book (and probably will do, lets be honest). All the recipes are set out so well and are so easy to follow, and everything looks so beautiful. I would recommend this to anyone, however, if you have a Disney fan in your life this is definitely the book for them!
Not only is this a great cookbook, but it's almost like a walk through Disney parks. Organized by the different parks with diagrams of where some of the eateries are. Lots of great recipes, easy and complicated and in between, with fun facts or information about the recipes. Although not every recipe has photos, the book is laid out very beautifully. This is definitely a book I want to keep with my recipes to try new things!
2020 has not been a kind year and there are a lot of things that we have had to leave behind while we protect our health. While Walt Disney World Reopened this past Summer, entrance is limited and not everyone is willing to travel to get there. What’s the next thing to being there? Enjoying your favorite treats at home until you can get back to the parks in person again!
This books is chock full of many of the goodies you have been craving. From Churros to Dole Whip to Pretzels to Macarons. You can get your fix while waiting for your chance to get back to the parks.
There are a few Disney lovers in our family who will be getting this book for Christmas! I just wish there were more pictures of the finished treats.
If you're a fan of the Disney theme parks, this cookbook is for you. Organized by park, complete with maps and all of the recipes have short ingredient lists and easy to follow instructions. Perfect for cooking with your kids!
Thank you to Adams Media and NetGalley for allowing me to view an advance e-copy of this cookbook. My review is voluntary and all opinions are my own.
First you are treated to some nostalgia as the author grew up 15 minutes from Disneyland in California and she tells you what the park was like then, its early history and which food is associated with which attractions and characters.
Then you are given examples of cooking tools and substitutes to prepare you for making these delicious treats - this is not a healthy treat book, so be prepared for a wild, sweet ride!
Churros are the first offering, you will need flour, sugar, salt and oil. You will need to go through several steps, such as mixing, using a piping bag, and boiling the churros in oil - follow the directions carefully!
The Raspberry Rose Mickey Macaroons you will need to study the directions carefully to make sure that you follow the steps exactly, as you will be blending, mixing meringue, piping the macaroon mixture and baking.
The Bengal Barbecue uses different types of vinegars, beef and brown sugar to create tasty skewers on a grill.
Jungle Juleps use pineapple, orange and grape juice in a blender to create a flavorful drink in a few minutes!
There are several flavorful and easy to prepare Hummus recipes that use black beans, lime juice, paprika, chick peas, and tahini in a blender to tingle your tastebuds.
The Beignets recipe is for New Orleans Square in Disneyland, and the recipe uses flour, eggs, confectioners sugar and oil to create flavorful doughnuts using a standing mixer and a heavy flat bottomed pan to fry the dough mixture. Have fun!
The Mickey Sugar cookies contain flour, sugar, butter, eggs, baking powder and salt and they are easy to make with a stand mixer and Mickey Mouse cookie cutters!
Peter Pan Floats are made with eggs, sugar, lemon juice, heavy cream and soda that is cooked, strained and then frozen in an ice cream machine for a tasty cool treat!
There are so many good recipes you will have to buy the book for yourself, you will feel like you are at Disneyland or Disney World as you munch and slurp away!
Big Disney fan here and this cookbook is terrific!! Just what I needed until I can get back to the parks! Thank you for the great recipes. Would be a great present for Disney fans, however, anyone would love these recipes. It's happiness all wrapped up in a book.
Fantastic cookbook! I am a BIG fan of the Disney parks and my family goes often, so to have a cookbook with recreations of our favorite foods is wonderful. I like the mix of sweet and savory recipes along with the easy to follow recipes. I already know I'll be purchasing several copies for my Disney loving friends for Christmas.
Such a great fun recipe book for lovers of Disney! These recipes do a fantastic rendition of the parks food. It's almost like being back at Disney Parks. I highly recommend for when you start getting withdrawals from Disney and need a little pick me up to hold you over until your next visit!!
As a "Disney person" I was so grateful for this book. Though I still need to try a lot of the recipes, it was just so wonderful to see the broad range of recipes available. (Some of the ones I was particularly excited to see were the Ronto Wraps and Jack-Jack's Num Num Cookies!)
Each recipe is organized by the park in which they are sold, with map included at the start of each section. They also include a brief write-up for each recipe either with a history of the dish, a cooking tip or fun fact about the food.
Plus, there are lots of substitution options given, which is nice for those with food restrictions.
You can really tell how much the author loves the parks and the food and everything Disney, and I'm just so glad I now know how to make Blue Milk! Haha
I LOVE THIS COOKBOOK!!! Thank you netgalley for this treat. I am going to purchase the hardcover now!! This cookbook has ALL the yummy treats offered by Disney Parks. I’m from California and it’s great to dabble on what the Florida Parks have as well!! Love this!!
With COVID keeping Disneyland closed at the moment and Disney World being too far away for a quick trip, this book is just what the doctor ordered to give us that little piece of Disney magic. From Mickey pretzels to beignets, Dole whips to Bengal skewers, the author thought of (almost) everything. I’m secretly hoping for a sequel with Blue Bayou Gumbo, mmm mmm! This is our new go to cookbook for when we need some happiness in our day!
What a lovely idea ! It is like "Madeleine de Proust", food reminds us very quickly of nice memories, laugters, music, and fun. So, going throught the book , the recipes, the explanations about the parks, just contributes to bring a festive mood. I had great pleasure discovering all the recipes, and will give as a gift the Unoffical Disney parks cookbook.
I received a copy from NetGalley, all opinions are mine.
If you’re a Disney-phile like me, then you just KNEW the moment you saw this book that you HAD to have it! The beautiful cover, in signature Disney navy accented in gold, just screams, “PICK ME”. Flipping over to the back side, you know right away you’re in good hands. Not only did author Ashley Craft grown up in Anaheim Hills right next door to California’s Disneyland, but she also had the amazing experience of not one, but two, internships at Florida’s Walt Disney World in her college years. We are GO FOR LAUNCH, people, with a tried and true Disney expert.
Now, if you’ve ever been to a Disney park, you know that the food is an attraction category all its own. If I lived a little closer, heck, I’d drop into Disney World just to eat! And, of course, my family and I have stacked up our short list of favorites. So, the true test for this Unofficial Disney Cookbook – did our faves make the cut? So, let’s dig in and find out!
The recipes are organized by Disney Park: the original Disneyland, which is followed by Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom; then we swing back to California with Disney’s California Adventure, the newest of the American Disney parks (it appears Craft has organized the parks from oldest to newest.)
Disneyland
• Craft hit the ball out of the park (ha ha) with her first theme park section. Perennial favorites that my family has been enjoying for almost 25 years made the list, such as the delicious Mint Julep and scrumptious Beignets from New Orleans Square.
• I was also pleased to see that popular Adventureland stop, Bengal Barbecue, made the list with its mouth-watering Tiger Tails. While I, myself, would have included Bengal Barbecue’s Chieftain Chicken Skewer, it was nice to see several skewers in the mix, with the Bengal Beef, Pork Belly, and Safari skewer options. Not to be outdone are the Jungle Julep and Hummus Trio.
• I’m not familiar with the Main Street’s Raspberry Rose Mickey Macarons or Fantasyland’s Matterhorn Macaroons, but they sound delectable and I can’t wait to try them!
• The volume does also include crowd pleasers like Main Street’s Churros, New Orlean’s Square’s Clam Chowder, and Critter Country’s Churro Funnel Cake.
• If you don’t see your Disneyland faves here, check out the Magic Kingdom section!
Magic Kingdom
• Beloved Disney Park favorites are well represented with offerings such as Dole Whip, the giant smoked Turkey Legs, and Caramel Apples. Fun fact: There are only two outlets in the world where you can buy the tropical Dole Whip, a dairy-free, pineapple-flavored, ice cream-like dessert, – a Disney park, and Dole’s home base at the historic Dole Plantation in Honolulu, Hawaii.
• Other tempting recipes being slapped onto my weekly menu as we speak are the Mickey Sugar Cookies, Cheshire Cat Tails (a puff pastry, vanilla pudding, and chocolate-chip dessert), Peter Pan Float (which sounds like a heartier version of an Italian Soda, but with ‘eggs to make you grow strong’), and the Maple Popcorn.
Epcot
• Ahhh, Epcot – if Disney holds the gold standard for theme parks, then Epcot holds the triple crown! It’s hard to pick a favorite when it comes to Epcot, because there are just so many great options. Not to mention the annual Food & Wine Festival where Disney really takes it up a notch – or three!
• Some my family’s favorites come from the Canada area of Epcot, in the form of the beer cheese soup from Le Cellier and the beaver tails (like an elephant ear – we like it topped with chocolate-hazelnut spread!) occasionally offered at seasonal food stands. I don’t see those in the cookbook, but with so many options available, I can only imagine the difficult task Craft had in narrowing this volume down to a mere 240 pages. I am thrilled, and you will be too, to see pages for France’s Macaron Ice Cream Sandwiches and Crepes, and Germany’s Caramel Corn from the Karamell-Kuche (German for Caramel Kitchen), all three of which my family can personally attest are absolutely mouth-watering as well as addictive!
• On my “must try” list are Craft’s recipes for the Caramel-Chocolate Pineapple Spears, Caramel Pecan Bars (Sensing a theme yet? Epcot is a veritable caramel-lovers paradise!), and of course the Coconut Popsicles.
• Fun fact: Epcot stands for “Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow”, which was Walt Disney’s name for the park, which he sadly didn’t get to see visualized. Disney passed away in 1966, while Epcot did not open until 16 years later in 1982.
Other Disney Parks
• While there certainly is much room for debate, in my family’s minds, Disney’s Hollywood Studios (DHS), Animal Kingdom (AK), and California Adventure (DCA) have never really been known for their food, unlike their Disneyland, Magic Kingdom, and Epcot counterparts, so I’ll review these three together.
• That said, DCA has recently stepped it up in recent years, with efforts such as bringing in celebrated chefs. And this reviewer does in fact believe it appropriate to include a section for each park, as the cookbook wouldn’t be complete without it. So, I was enthused to dive in and see what intriguing options Craft includes for her readers.
• I was glad to see a top favorite, Candy Apples, in the DHS section, along with the Frozen Chocolate Covered Bananas. Every child’s dream Mickey Waffles enter in the AK section, as well as Mickey Ice Cream Sandwiches and Bars (kiddos and grown-ups alike can’t get enough of Mickey-shaped food!). DCA brings us Pumpkin Spice Churros, Chili-Lime Corn on the Cob, and Bavarian Pretzels.
All of this! And more!!!
• A very handy feature is a section on The Disney Cook’s Essentials, a valuable grouping of the tools of the cooking trade, Disney style, for your home kitchen.
• One of my absolute favorites about this book, though – and I’m sure it will be one of your as well – is the tales, anecdotes, and interesting factoids sprinkles throughout the book like pixie dust. In fact, this is what really makes this book special, as each recipe is thoughtfully headed with a small tale relating to the recipe you are about to read – truly a treat that will whisk you off to that Disney magic in a jiff!
Conclusion
With 240 pages, numerous full-color, full-page illustrations, and even maps of the park marked with the location of each of the tasty treats, this is sure to be a treasured volume in your kitchen cookbook library for years to come.

What a fun cookbook. Just reading it made me hungry and needing a trip to Disney World! I had high expectations and this book did not disappoint. I was especially looking for Dole whip and School Buns from the Norway Pavilion at Epcot. Yes, they were there along with an assortment of recipes from Disneyland, Disney World, and California Adventure parks.
The photos included were good. The recipes were fairly simple and included ingredients easily obtained at your local grocery store. At the beginning, the author describes the kitchen tools and appliances you will need to make the recipes in the book.
At the beginning of each chapter was a park map so that you could see just where each item originated. The author includes fun facts about the parks, and the foods in the parks, making it more than just a cookbook. It is a bit of a park guide, as well. If you have been to a Disney Park or are planning a trip there, this book is for you.
This cookbook is great I can’t wait to try many of the recipes. So many favorite dishes from the Disney parks to try at home. Being unable to travel during the pandemic this is a wonderful way to bring the Disney vacation home. Recipes have great pictures and thorough directions. Some might take some time but I’m sure it’ll be worth it.
Oh... My... GOD. I'VE DIED AND GONE TO HEAVEN. There are so many kid and family friendly recipes in here and it is NOT all sweets either which I was fully expecting.
I cant wait to try especially right now the pumpkin spice churros. They look great for both my son and my husband. For me, im looking forward to making that hummus trio. The flavor combos look awesome and I am sure they will be a hit with my family.
You had better put this one down as one of those must habe cookbooks for your library, especially if you have kids.
What is espcially helpful about this cookbook is how the recipes are divided up into parks and map locations. Epcot, Disneyland etc. And where each item is located on the map. I felt that was a really thoughtful and wonderful detail to include that might have otherwise been over looked.
I sincerely cant wait until this comes out in print. Ill be buying this one for gifts as well as myself!
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
If you're missing the magic of Disney, this book may help. With recipes unofficially from the disney parks, there's magic to be made in your kitchen as you explore the different parks.
I really liked this! More than I expected to like it. It’s organized by park and the locations of the original treats are on the map. Instructions are easy.
I’ve made four of the recipes so far and 3 are definitely keepers!
The only negative, and it’s sort of a given, is that for some of the “fancier” treats you need more equipment. That said, if you’re buying a Disney cookbook, I feel like that should be expected.
I’ll definitely be using this again!
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.
I was so excited to find this book. It includes two of my favorite things, Disney and cooking. Now Disney fans will love finding recipes for some of their favorite Disney foods at home. Just imagine making a Dole whip at home on a hot summer day. Or maybe you would like to try those delicious turkey legs. The recipes are divided by parks complete with a park diagram showing where in the park you are likely to find this food. This is a great way to get the family cooking together. I was disappointed that the Park Fare Strawberry soup was not included. Maybe another book. If you need me I will be in the kitchen making some Mickey Macaroons!
Exactly as described. Full of Disney inspired recipes for both food and drink.
Packed full of recipes with added info on the story of where they came from.
My children also loved this picking familiar recipes out themed around their favorite Disney characters as a treat to make.
As expected certainly not for the health conscious and many ingredients may be difficult to come across, but overall a fun tasty, Disney themed cookbook perfect to follow as an activity with children.
Thankyou to netgalley for the preview of this book.
For someone who misses Disney, what a wonderful read! I would happily buy this for someone else, especially as a Christmas gift! The recipes are wonderful and east to follow and it is also stunning in print, I am sure. The kindle version was a bit odd in formatting, but I hope to buy the cookbook in paper form when it comes out since it would be a wonderful addition to my collection:)
As a former Disney Annual Passholder, I am missing out on my Disney fix these days. I heard about this cookbook and I was eager to preview it!
The cookbook features specialties and treats sorted by each WDW theme park including Disneyland and California Adventure.
Besides Mickey Waffles and Dole Whips, some recipes that I'm eager to attempt include Peanut Butter & Jelly Milkshakes, Raspberry Rose Mickey Macarons, Blue Milk, and LeFou's Brew.
This Disneyphile author and former cast member has been featuring her WDW inspired treats on her popular blog for years and decided to compile them all into a cookbook which will be released on Nov 10th! Great Christmas gift idea! Thanks to Ashley Craft and Simon & Schuster for a digital preview copy of this book!
Everything about this book was great--this would make the perfect gift for any Disney fan. Craft uses her love of the company and knowledge from internships to provide a well rounded selection of recipes and introduction to the history of food in "The World." I'm not surprised at all to learn just how busy Cosmic Ray's is.
The cover and inside graphics were perfect and I especially loved that the recipes were organized at the beginning of each section like a Disney Parks map. Craft includes popular recipes from each of the American parks (including churros, School Bread, Mickey pretzels, and Dole Whips (!)), with easy to follow recipes that include ingredients and supplies that most will already have on hand (I may just have to invest in an ice cream machine for those Dole Whips...)
My only complaint? I wish the book included EVERY Disney recipe. All kidding aside, because I know that's just impossible--this is a must have for anyone missing Disney restaurants right now. I can't wait to try these recipes and feature this book on Bookstagram. And I can't wait to get my hands on a finished copy.
Special thanks to NetGalley, Abrams Media, and Ashley Craft for giving me the opportunity to read this for review. This one was a privilege.
This book is a delicious feast for the eyes and includes a variety of recipes from Disneyland and Disney World. The book opens with a brief history food in the Disney parks (did you know Cosmic Rays is the busiest restaurant in the US?) and the. Has a section on necessary materials for cooking. And then come the recipes, and oh how delicious they are! They are divided into the various lands, and each recipe states where within the Land it can be found. From churros to Dole Whip you can bring Disney to your home. I do wish there were pictures for every recipe, but overall a great gift for any Disney loving cook.
If you are missing Disney Parks as much as I am at the moment, you will have to get The Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook! Dole Whip, Jack-Jack Cookie Num Nums, The Peter Pan Float, Churros, Mickey Waffles, Ronto Wraps, Blue and Green Milk, need I go on?
Honestly, I am more of a casual cook, but these recipes have me excited to try somethings out. With that being said, I don’t have all cooking “tools” that are required- I think that is important to keep in mind, especially if you have kids. It would be disappointing if you discovered you needed a shaved ice maker and didn’t have one.
But in any case, I was THRILLED to receive this ARC. Thank you to NetGalley and Adams Media for granting it, in exchange for an honest review.
One of the main issues I have with Disney cookbooks is that everything is overly complicated and not the type of recipes most average cooks would even attempt. This is not that book. I was super impressed that these recipes were not only simplified for a home cook, but were CURRENT foods that you would find in the parks today. If you are a Disney Parks foodie, you will recognize all of these recipes right away and will even know where you can find them in the parks. I appreciated that. You could easily make these recipes with kids and the foods are all family friendly, too. I would have loved to see more food photos to accompany the recipes as there were only featured photos for certain foods. Otherwise, great book that I can see holding people over until their next visit to the parks!
There are so many people who are just itching to go travel right now, but some people are still not feeling comfortable doing so or some places are still closed down or they lost jobs during the pandemic and it just isn't possible. Disney parks are open but for those who can not make the trip but who want to bring a little magic home, The Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbokok is a great way to do so. The ever popular, and my favorite Disney treat, the Dole Whip makes an appearance here, but there are also so many different treats, drinks, and foods to try at your home. If you are ever planning a Disney themed party, this could be the sole resource for food. It is also a great go to for fun treats for your kids (or the Disney kid in your) especially during this tough time we are all going through right now with the pandemic. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a little magic and light or of course to Disney lovers.
Whether or not you grew up eating these delicious treats from Disney Parks, you want this awesome cookbook! The recipes are the real deal and show you how to replicate some of the most loved recipes, from savory to sweet. The recipes are easy to follow, and none feel cumbersome to make. I like that it includes equipment needed to create these treats, as most, but not all, are common household kitchen tools. The only thing that would have made this book better was a picture of every single recipe. I definitely recommend this cookbook for all fans of Disney treats.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions expressed are my own, freely given.
As a former Disney Cast member, I love looking at cookbooks related to the parks. I've had more Dole Whip floats and enjoyed 'eating around the world' at Epcot than I can count. The cookbook is broken up by Parks and there are tons of recipes for each park. While some are not the 'authentic' recipe (I mean, dole whip is literally a powder mix and water - which the book does mention!) it is a great way to have your Disney fix at home without having to travel! This is definitely a cookbook to add to your collection if you are a Disney fan.
Easy to follow recipes. Great back story and info on each recipe and where you would get the original. I will be using this recipe book to cook with my kids. What a fun idea to compile recipes from the happiest place on earth.
I absolutely loved this. I will definitely be buying it when it is published. The colors, the pictures, the thorough recipes and the magic. Some of it is difficult to immolate but Ashley Craft really makes it as easy as possible. This would make an excellent gift for your favorite Disney lover!
A super fun, magical book with so many delicious recipes! The thing I love most about it is how it allows me to have a bit of the magic of Disney right in my very own kitchen. Great for adults and children alike.
This cookbook is magical!
I love Disney! But living in the Midwest I've only been to Disney World three times; once when I was 10, once in high school and once about three years ago as an adult. The parks are so magical and being there as an adult without kids is just as magical as being there as a kid. That said, I've never been to Disneyland.
Not having been but a few times I'm not completely familiar with the food and treats that are in the park, at least not taste wise.
I follow a good number of Disney inspired content creators and ALL of them talk about the food and seasonal treats! So I am at least slightly familiar with a good chunk of sweets around the parks.
This book has so many recipes that I don't know where I'm going to start! I bookmarked so many that I want to try!
For the most part, this book gives very clear instructions and background information on each recipe! There are a few that I looked at that I probably won't ever attempt though. Some just seem like they would take a lot of time and effort.
It's also important to note that some of these recipes require equipment that may not be in every household: ice cream maker, shaved ice maker, pressure cooker, and a steamer basket. While I do have an ice cream maker (yay! Dole Whip here I come!) I don't have the others and probably won't ever make those recipes.
Top 3 things I'm most excited to try out:
The Grey Stuff - Beauty and the Beast will probably always be my number one! So of course I'm interested in the grey stuff, I hear it's delicious! When we went a few years ago I wanted to eat at the restaurant that has this, but we didn't have a reservation and didn't have the time. There are two versions of this recipe, one for each park.
LeFou's Brew - Another thing I wanted to try three years ago! I had gone into Gaston's Tavern and ordered this, but they were out. Very disappointed cause it sounds delicious and I can't wait to get the ingredients to try it out!
Dole Whip - Duh?
It seems like most the recipes in this book are sweets, which makes sense since a lot of the treats in the parks are sweets. I'm very excited to try some of the non sweets as well. There's this Mac n Cheese with pulled pork I've got my eye on. Also a handful of fun popcorn recipes!
Overall, this book has everything! If you're a fan of the food at the parks this is a fun cookbook to have! Would make the perfect Christmas gift too! I can't wait to actually dig in and make some of these!
This is an extremely comprehensive cookbook for all the Disney Parks. Not just Disneyland, but Epcot, California Adventure, Animal Kingdom, etc. I’ve been to all of these but had no idea there were so many options and that there are pumpkin spice churros and raspberry rose Mickey macarons?? The only complaint I do have is I wish there were more pictures.
This book is like a childhood dream come true! I didn’t buy many cookbooks anymore because I never use them, but this is one I just might need to own! Full of many childhood Disney favorite treats, and lots of new treats that look amazing!! Many of the recipes look pretty easy to make.
I've never been to Disney. I know I'm a total loser. However, I do have some big Disney dreams and the food is one of them.
I'm totally like a kid in my head and know that Disney food treats will totally turn me into my favorite character and I will live the bestest life ever.
In my experience though with my limited cooking skills my normal run with anything attempted to cook Disney have fell wayyyy short.
When I cracked open this sucker I was very pleasantly surprised to see that I can make some Disney food! I made the Mickey waffles this last weekend...without the Mickey Mouse ears because my cheap self is not going to buy another waffle maker. I would have posted a pic of my sucess but my family got in the way of that.
There are several delicious-ness things from this book that I plan on attempting. Bengal Beef Skewers, Mint Juleps, Sweet and spicy chicken waffle sandwiches, turkey legs (If I can find some of those suckers), Cheeseburger Spring Rolls, Mickey waffles and Mr. Kamals seasoned fries. My only problem is I'm on a diet and all these recipes will go straight to my butt.
I am going to do it anyways so my family should be prepared for my amazingness!! PS If you can't tell I think this is a total fun cookbook. I would have liked a few more photos of the finished products and some healthier choosing but I'm still liking the heck out of it.
I have no clue why my gifs are not working either. *insert angry face*
Booksource: Netgalley in exchange for review.
I absolutely adored this cookbook! I loved this collection of recipes and have marked several to try. It was like getting a tour of Disney one page at a time.
A special thank you to NetGalley and the publisher. I was given an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
What a wonderful book. For any true Disney fan this is a joy. The recipes are simple and easy to follow and the background stories delightful.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this copy in exchange for an honest review.
My Family and I are huge Disney fans so I was very excited about this book and it does not disappoint! Filled with all the classic food and treats, this is the perfect way to bring the Disney Parks into out home. This may be my new favourite cookbook ever!
Thank you Adams Media for sharing a copy of The Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook by Ashley Craft for review.
Did this cookbook come into our lives at the right time or what? My family and I came back from a Disney trip in late February, with dreams of going again soon and eating more delicious treats, and then the whole world changed. I do not know when we'll be able to travel again, let a lone make a big Disney trip so until then, we'll be safe at home making our own versions of our favourites. I already have Christmas requests to bake Jack Jack Nom Nom Cookies, some Grey Stuff and many more. I'll be busy re-creating a fun vacation memory or two.
Perfect addition to any Disney Park fan who misses planning their next vacation and wants a little bit of the parks in their own kitchen.
I'm so happy that I got to read this book! It's my favorite cookbook ever! I love Disney and all the park foods and I can't wait to try them at home! This book is beautiful and the recipes look very similar to what we see at the parks. I'm just so excited about this book and how nice it is! It's well organized and each recipe tells you where you can find it at the park which is so cool! I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review
Rating 4
Looking at "The Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook" by Ashley Craft was very neat. Being someone who did not grow up visiting the park and have only been there once it was cool to learn about the different foods offered. I never knew they had such a huge variety of food at the different Disney parks. The recipes in this book all sound yummy and would be food that I would want to eat. They all have different skill requirements as well as what equipment you will need. Some recipes will be easy for people to make and others are not so practical. For example, some recipes require you to have a slushy, ice cream, or pressure cooker and not all traditional families have these. While I did enjoy this cookbook I do wish they had more pictures of the food. When following a recipe for the first time I like to be able to see what the end result looks like. Also, having more pictures helps someone to actually want to create that food. Overall, this was a good cookbook and I will be following some of the recipes.
Should you read "The Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook"?Yes. You don't have to be a Disney fan to want to try these foods. The recipes in this book can be enjoyed by all ages at any time.
**Received an advanced copy through NetGalley in return for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. **
I received a complimentary copy of this title from the publisher through NetGalley. Opinions expressed are my own.
This is definitely a fun book! Honestly, I doubt it's something your average cookbook reader would pick up--though if they did, they'd probably want to go eat at Disney! But it's more likely that people who pick this up will be ones looking to recreate their specific favorite foods from the Parks. And a lot of them are here!
The "cooking essentials" section is a little intimidating with all of the special items it lists. (And you definitely wouldn't be able to make everything without them. Most notably, the high-powered blender for the ice drinks.) But unless the particular recipe you were looking for needs it or you're determined to make everything in the book (no judgment), you're probably set with the items you already have.
The colorful maps are one of my favorite additions. And the section pages remind you of Disney menus.
And yes, there is Dole Whip, churros, and the Grey Stuff!
I LOVED this cookbook! I've always wanted the recipes of Disney foods and now we have every single one! I like how they categorized the recipes based on the park they are from.
Do you remember the first time you went to Disneyworld or Disneyland? The thrill of walking down Main Street, seeing the performers, the castle in the distance and…smelling those delicious aromas that waft out of the shops and restaurants. You do, don’t you? Well, this delightful cookbook is for you.
Chock full of delicious recipes and glorious photographs, the cookbook is organized by sections of the parks. Each section has at least twelve recipes with varying degrees of difficulty. Author Ashley Craft has made this book easy for the home chef. In the forward, she goes over the kitchen equipment you’ll need for the recipes. Each recipe lists ingredients, step by step instructions with hints and occasional substitutions and a lot of fun facts. For instance, did you know that Philadelphia cream cheese was invented in upstate New York?
And oh, the food! Gaston’s cinnamon buns! I can just taste them! Mickey pretzels will be a fun treat to make with children. The hummus trio with breadsticks is a healthy snack and the waffle sandwiches will be a satisfying lunch. You’ll find several recipes for smoothies and desserts. There is something for everyone here - for children and the child at heart!
A big thank you to Ashley Craft who created these recipes. Her blog, Ashley Crafted, is full of recipes and ideas. She has packed a Disney dining experience into this book! 5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley, Adams Media and Ashley Craft for this ARC.
As a true Disney fanatic I loved this cookbook! We live in Orlando so we go to Disney World all the time. How wonder it is to experience the magic at home!!
I loved the set up of the book. The map was a great touch! I do wish there had been more photographs. Although I know what most of these items look like, I still love photographs in cookbooks.
I think this is a great book for those seeking to feel to the Disney magic in their home when they can't make it to the parks. I would imagine this would be a great gift for the Disney-lover in your life!
What I appreciate about this cookbook is it's connection to the reader's emotions. This isn't just your average recipe. This is a Disney recipe. It's the item you had when you were in Magic Kingdom waiting in line to ride Space Mountain. It's the item you had when when you were watching fireworks with your loved ones on your vacation. Food has an amazing connection to memory. The sights, the smells, the taste...it all adds to that experience. What a wonderful way to connect with those memories!
Adorable cookbook with tasty recipes. Really enjoyed the maps of the parks and extra details. Can’t wait to make some of these!
I’m in California and my kiddo and I are missing the parks during pandemic. As passholders, there are times we absolutely go primarily for the food and shopping with just a ride here and there – and the Disney Parks have some of the best food.
If you’re like us, this book is here to help you solve some of those cravings!
The book is full of some of the best of the Disney meals. Keep in mind the ‘Unofficial’ in the title – these are copycat recipes, but still excellent. For example, Disney recently released the official recipe for their beignets. Their recipe uses buttermilk – the one in this cookbook uses evaporated milk. Still delicious, but just a little different.
It’s also important to keep in mind that you’ll need some equipment if you hope to make everything in this book. For example, the Dole Whip recipe (and others) will require an ice cream maker. The official recipe released by Disney, doesn’t.
While there aren’t pictures of every recipe, fans will already know what these items look like and the pictures that are in the book are so very enticing!
Kiddo and I are having a lot of fun with these – but delicious fun!

This book is as magical as it sounds!
Very nice recipes, perfect to make with kids. Love the Disney vibe and the design of the book is so cute. Definitely recommend to those who love both cooking and disney.
This book is fantastic! It has all the favorites from the parks! The Gray stuff was indeed delicious! I loved that Craft included the history of the parks in the beginning. I also really liked the fun facts after the recipes. As a huge Disney fan, I thought I knew it all, but this book taught me that there's still plenty to learn! Some other recipes I'm really looking forward to making are bacon Mac and cheese hot dogs, the CHURROS, Cheshire Cat tails, Lefou's Brew, loaded buffalo chicken tots, school bread, and pongu lumpia. They have the recipes separated by park and area. Also, they have recipes up to and including Star Wars Land! This recipe book is a game changer, and I cannot wait to impress all of my friends with my newfound recipes.
I liked it !
Good points :
- The recipes I tried were good (especially the caramel apples!)
- There was some very original recipes we rarely see in cookbook
- They had fun names that really helped transporting us and making it feel like a special experience
- Touch of Disney magic in the pages (very important element!!)
- Interesting snippets of informations about the parks, the food or just food in general
- Shows a way to make regular meals more fun (much needed during this pandemic)
Cons :
- I would have liked it to be "prettier". Having a black and white version on my Kindle definitely can't convey the finish that a real book would, but I would have loved more decorations on the pages and more picture.
- There were some odd recipes I don't think I'll be attempting, but have I had kids see them they'd beg me for it and I'd be in trouble !!
Thank you for the ARC !
This is so awesome! I absolutely loved looking through it and using some of the recipes! This is a really cool book and would definitely recommend it for all you Disney lovers out there!
Thank you to NetGalley and Adams Media for kindly providing me with a digital copy of this book for review.
I wanted to read this book with my husband in mind. He is a chef by profession and Disney obsessed to boot. We have not yet made it over the pond to visit the Disney Parks but it is definitely on the bucket list. But I do know when we make it there, the food will be what my husband will be most excited about. So I’ve shown him this e-arc and now this book is on his Christmas list- he loved it and really wants to try out many of the recipes.
I personally liked the Disney Parks history that the author included at the beginning of the book and the author’s own connection to the parks.
I’m not sure we have all the equipment to make everything in this book, but will definitely be trying out a few and creating a little bit of Disney magic at home.
***Thank you to Adams Media and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review***
This book is soooo fun. I love all the recipes. So far I have tried Dole whip (because let's face it, it's basic but amazing). As someone who does not go to Disney often, I loved the explanations of the food.
This book is easy to follow and super fun, I cannot wait to try more recipes
I would highly recommend this book
This Disney Parks recipes are fantastic. The recipes use simple and easy to find ingredients. The instructions are clear and concise. I made quite a few of these recipes for my family and we all loved them. I definitely recommend this Disney Parks Book Of Recipes.
OMG LOVE all the recipes from this book! Everything tasted amazing. My family and I are Disney lovers and we made 10 recipes! It felt like we were at the park! Thank you for a copy in exchange for an honest review
"The Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook" by Ashley Craft transported me to the happiest place on Earth via a new collection of Disney inspired recipes. I enjoyed this cookbook and was so excited to flip through the pages and see so many familiar iconic Disney staples! From the famous "Turkey Leg" to the delicious "Dole Whip" all of my favorites were included in this book. One of the things that was a little disappointing was that I needed to get some additional equipment in my kitchen in order to follow these recipes. An ice cream machine isn't necessarily something that every person will have on hand in their kitchen. Overall, I enjoyed this cookbook but wish it was a bit more accessible.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
What an excellent Cookbook this is for both Disney and non-Disney fans alike! The recipes are wonderful and it is well laid out in the design of the composition of the book, overall. I can see this being a wonderful "gift book" for Christmas because it is sure to bring a smile to many faces! Thank you so much for the opportunity to preview this before the release! I will be referencing this for many meals to come!
The Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook is a fun one, starting with a map of the park and a description of the culinary specificities of each area. Not living in America, and therefore not likely to enjoy the rides or the foods there, this is the next best thing for me!
In it you can mainly find snacking foods, savory and sweet, from the most simple 3 ingredient recipes, like the turkey leg, to the most sophisticated multi stepped ones, like the mickey macaron. Those by the way look particularly delicious and I definitely intend to try them out. Some recipes do have many steps and require the skills of a more seasoned cook, but they are well explained. I like making recipes from scratch, so I am fond of that. But a good number of recipes also have shortcuts and require such ingredients as vanilla ice cream, cake mixes, frozen tater tots… which is handy when you want to be quick. Obviously don’t expect healthy meals, that’s not the point, this is the height of party food.
There is a few general American classics that most people will probably have a recipe for already, like churros, caramel pop-corn, clam chowder, funnel cake, sugar cookies. But then again it’s good to have everything in one spot. Those are very much some of the park’s favourites and make sense in the book. What I’m particularly curious about, though, are the very specific recipes and Disney dishes like grey stuff gateau, Lefou’s brew, the Star wars green and blue milk as well as the Avatar Night blossoms. Those are the ones I am most curious about and want to try.
My criticism though, is that there is only about 1 picture for every 4 recipes, and for someone like me who had not been in the original American park it makes it hard to know what the final result should look like, and how to best present the dish. I also think more pictures makes for a more attractive and useful cookbook. I know that I often forget my picture-less book in favour of the ones which show me what I am aiming for. I find pictures more inspiring and I have a better idea as to what I can replace in recipes and how to present it if I do. A Disney cookbook is more of an occasional thing for me, as I’m a pretty health conscious cook, and most of the appeal of the book comes from how pretty the food inside is. I was a little disappointed that there wasn’t a picture for every single recipe.
But apart from that I do think this is a perfect gift for Disney and fairground fans, and I know I can very successfully pick a great birthday party menu for my kids in there. I really look forward to using it.
I am thrilled to be able to try out these amazing recipes!! So far, each one that I have made has been a hit with everyone who has tasted it!
In a year where a trip to Disney is not really an option, this book gave me all the Disney vibes! I can't wait to make some of these recipes, especially the Dole Whip!
📣 Review 📣
🐭🐭🐭🐭🐭
5 mice!!! Because its Disney! Get it?
The Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook is essential for all Disney lovers and especially those who have been to Disneyworld and need their Dole Whip fix during lockdown!
The book starts off with some history about each of the parks (Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom etc). And what cooking/baking tools you will need throughout the book. The book is then split up into chapters covering each park separately; so if you know what park has your favourite treat, you can go straight to that chapter.
The instructions are clear and concise and the pictures are beautiful and obviously not what any of mine will look like. It is very up to date, even including the blue and green milk from the new Galaxy's Edge at Holywood Studios. It has both sweet and savoury dishes and even has a recipe for the grey stuff (its delicious, don't believe me ask the dishes!)
I cannot wait to moving my way through each of these recipes and having some nostalgia at home!
Release date is November 10th and I am adding this immediately to my wishlist as I need a physical copy!
Thank you to @netgalley and @adams_media for my ARC in exchange for an honest review
Omg I love Disney. I even worked at Disney when I lived in Florida. I’ve had my fair share of Disney food, so when this book came up to review on NetGalley I jumped at the chance. I am so excited to try these recipes, actually I couldn’t wait and have a pan of brownie bites in the oven now! It smells so good! There’s so many great familiar recipes in this book it will be a family favorite for sure!
My family are Disney fans. We visit Disneyland and Disney World often, and have been to the park in Japan a number of times as well. One thing we love to do when planning out our day is planning out our food! Each of us have our favorite snacks, restaurants, snack bars, and places to relax so I was very excited to look through this. The introduction is thorough and gives a history of food in the parks, from Walt down to Dole Whip and the colored milks. Scattered throughout are other bits of trivia that Disney fans will enjoy.
The book is divided into chapters based on the parks and when they opened. There are lots of famous recipes to choose from, like beignets and churros and the dole whip-things that have been Disney staples for decades, to the most recent offerings at the newly opened Star Wars-Galaxy’s Edge and Pandora. I will say that the majority of the recipes are for sweets like cookies, churros, and cupcakes. I was hoping there would be more main dish type recipes.
For the most part, the recipes are straight forward and seem pretty simple. I do agree with another reviewer that suggested more photos! A recipe book is nothing without photos and the few that were included did whet my appetite for more. This is a no brainer for any fan of Disney parks, and sure to please Mickey fans both young and old.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
As someone living in Australia, visiting Disney is a pipe dream for many of us, myself included. So I jumped at the chance to review this book.
The layout is fun and friendly, with a definite Disney, feel to it. There’s a map included, which gives non-visitors like me a good indication of where everything is. As the author lives in Anaheim and knows the park by heart, I would have loved to see photos from her experiences with the food and park, to put the reader in her shoes.
I would have loved pictures of each recipe. On the bottom of half pages, or in a collage with names. Seeing a finished product helps many of us attempting recipes to make sure we got it right.
I liked the appliance/utensil list, but not everyone has the luxury of owning multiple appliances, alternative methods would be a great addition to this. Adding in alternate cooking instructions would be a huge bonus. Oven-baked instead of fried for example.
I appreciated the conversions, we run on a metric system here in Australia, but I had to keep scrolling to the list to make sense of the recipe in my mind. Time would be saved for the reader if the conversions were included in each recipe. Especially F° to C°.
There were a decent number of recipes that appeal to me, which I intend to try, and I’m into variations, so the recipes that include mix it up ideas appeal to me a lot.
There’s something in this book for everyone. I have a family who loves Star Wars, and I like to cook so themed food gifts are a bonus. This also caters to a variety of tastes and food preferences. It builds a picture with anecdotes and fun facts about the world of Disney and history.
This is a fantastic resource for anyone who wants a taste of Disney without the travel (though the ambiance would make it a more immersive experience, maybe with a Disney related candle), and is great for themed birthdays for young and not so young, Disney movie nights, charity parties and food-related gifts. But, cooking up a Disney feast for fun is appealing too.
I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest, voluntary review. All opinions are my own.
What an amazing cookbook! Full of wonderful recipes from the Disney Parks for you to recreate and enjoy at home.
The format of the book is really interesting - part one is an introduction to the book and the disney parks together with useful tools and equipment that will make preparing these recipes a breeze at home. The second part of the book focuses on the recipes. The recipe section is then broken down into what parks they would be found in.
Each recipe begins by telling you a bit about the item. The ingredients are clearly listed along with how many the recipe will serve. The method is broken down into a numbered list, making it easy for novices and experienced cooks to follow. Some recipes include a photograph of the finished item and some interesting facts about the recipe or technique used. The pages are all numbered and the book contains both a contents and index page, making it easy to find the recipe you are looking for. There is also a conversion chart at the back of the book which is very handy to have if needed.
The only thing I would change with this book is to include a photo of each item, as I love to see what the recipe should look like once finished, especially if it is sometime I have never cooked before. However, this is a personal preference, and would not prevent me from purchasing this wonderful cookbook.
This cookbook would be ideal for all ages, and would make a great gift for disney fans.
I was so excited about this cookbook and I was not disappointed! Ashley Craft brings an array of various disney recipes, but the book is formatted in a way that all the recipes are done by the location of what Disneypark you can actually get the yummy food from. So, FUN! I can't wait to try out the dole whip and churros. If you are a Disney fan you must grab this book.
Easily one of my favorite cookbooks this year. Everyone has a favorite memory of Disneyland or Disneyworld and it often includes a special treat you shared with friends and family that is not available outside the parks. Now you can make your own at home. Easy to follow recipes using everyday ingredients will make you the queen of your own magical kingdom.
Great for anyone who loves Disney! All of the recipes look delicious, and I love the stories that go with them
What a perfect time for this cookbook to come out! With Disneyland remaining closed and some park visitors not feeling safe visiting Disney World yet, this is a great time to make some of these recipes at home for a taste of the parks. I ended up purchasing a personal copy of this book immediately because there were so many recipes I'd like to try.
I loooove this book. The fact that I have recipes to some of my favorite eats and drinks from Disney Parks is freaking incredible. I also like that there are some learning points about some of the different treats. I can’t wait to try the things I’ve deny myself in the past. If you’re a Disney Park fan like me and like the different treats or just looking for some new dishes and drinks to try here is a great place to start.
This book is the PERFECT book for any Disney fan. It seriously included all of my favorite Disney recipes. From the Grey Stuff to a Ronto Wrap to the mac and cheese hotdogs I love so much, it really encompassed everything. I love that it was clear to follow, had images, and really offered clear instructions. I love that it had recipes too from both coasts! If you are a Disney fan, I highly recommend this book to fill that craving for Disney foods.
Such a lovely book!
This is a food "love letter" to Disney Parks.
It has details about the parks, (literally) puts the recipes on each park's map and delves a little into the significance and innovations of food for these specific entertainment places in the big Disney business.
This book is an adorable collection of fun, sweet and sour recipes, colorful and delightful. Some are easy to make, some take more time and skill, but they all seem perfect for parties, to enchant little ones and adults. The only think I would have wished for - more photos to show the final product.
More than a simple cook book, you can feel the author's love for Disney's parks and their food that had such an impact on her childhood and adolescence. For this only the book is a gem, a true work of passion.
It's a great book to have in your collection to try something new and an absolutely perfect gift for any Disney parks' fan.
First things first i would like to thank netgalley for the ecopy of the book.
When I first saw the book I knew it was going to be a whirlwind experience, I have not had the chance to make it around to Disney World or Disney Land But I have heard of all the wonderous food that the parks had to offer. While flipping through the pages I became ecstatic to begin cooking and trying them out it was a wonderful time to spend with the family and friends we had a blast cooking up come magic and needless to say the recipes live to the hype. I did have to stock on some supplies as mickey mouse waffle iron, cookie cutters as such to feel the full experience whoever I feel like they are not necessary as the recipes speak for themselves.
The Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook by Ashley Craft is a delight. Eating at Disney Parks is always a culinary experience. I have already made the Bengal Beef Skewers from Adventureland, Disneyland. They are tangy, salty, sweet, and juicy. I cannot wait to recreate more of the Disney Magic at home. The cookbook’s recipes are grouped into park name and location. This is a great setup for the book because he recipes will be easy to find after a visit to the parks.
***** I received an ARC from NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my honest review. *****
I just finished going through this cookbook and there are SO MANY recipes I want to try! I'm in the process of expanding the content I post to my Bookstagram to include baked goods, so at least one or two of these will definitely be appearing. Thanks so much Netgalley for providing an e-arc of this! I hope to get my hands on a physical copy when it's released!
I was so excited to see this cookbook! I’ve not been to Disneyland in 35 years, and haven’t been to Disney World in 18, but I remember the food. Boy do I remember some of those treats! Getting this cookbook gives me access to recipes that will be similar to those I remember, and new recipes for food I haven’t been lucky enough to try but have heard tons about!
When my tween daughter found out about this book, she actually pulled herself away from the video game she was playing to ask how many of the recipes will I be making, and if there’s anything in the book that I thought she’d like to try. She’s super picky, but I know that she’s going to be lining up to try whatever I make!
With easy to follow recipes this cookbook is a no brainer for those who love Disney and love to cook. I’m excited to have my tween help me as we work our way through all the yummy sounding recipes.
**I received an ARC of this book from the publisher and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Well, if there has ever been a time that we've needed to create a little Disney magic at home, this is it. The Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook by Ashley Craft arrived not a moment too soon! My husband and I cooked recipes from this book for a full week and I'm excited to share the results!
Bengal Beef Skewers, Bengal Barbecue, Disneyland: We're coming out of the gate with a banger. These skewers we're so easy and flavorful. I will absolutely incorporate them into the dinner rotation. The recipe says it serves 6 but maybe they meant as a snack or an app? As written the recipe made 3 adult dinner servings. I'm also confused about why it has you make a double portion of marinade and set half aside, never to be mentioned again... But I'm not mad about it, will just make again next week.
Sweet-and-Spicy Chicken Waffle Sandwiches, Sleepy Hollow, Magic Kingdom: These were absolutely lovely. My husband had class the night we made these so I used frozen chicken strips to save a little time. The sweet and spicy sauce and the cool coleslaw were the perfect contrast. We don't have a Mickey waffle iron so we stuck with a traditional round, which seems to be what they do at Disney anyway.
Pizza Spring Rolls, Adventureland Egg Roll Wagon, Magic Kingdom: What I love about Disney snacks are the positively sacrilegious and unapologetic fusion foods. Let's put pizza toppings in a spring roll, WHY NOT?! This recipe worked perfectly exactly as written. The recipe calls for egg roll wrappers, which technically makes these egg rolls, not spring rolls, but if your grocery store stocks spring roll wrappers I suspect you could easily substitute. Also next time I'll serve with a cup of pizza sauce to dip, like they do at Disney.
School Bread, Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe, EPCOT: The Norway Pavilion School Bread has a real cult following and I can see why. These were fun to make and made for a delicious brunch. I was skeptical about the amount of yeast in this recipe, and mine did puff up a little bigger than I was expecting. I halved the dough recipe but ended up needing the full amount of filling, so if you're making 8 you may want to plan accordingly.
Peanut Butter & Jelly Milkshakes, 50s Prime Time Cafe, Hollywood Studios: I'm speechless, this was absolutely perfection. So easy, so delicious. No further comment your honor, 💯💯💯.
Cheeseburger Steamed Pods, Satu’li Canteen, Animal Kingdom: Despite watching several YouTube videos in preparation, boy did we suck at folding bao. Folding fail aside, this was a fun new cooking technique to learn and try. We also messed up a little bit on the filling-to-bun ratio, but these were tasty despite our many, many errors.
Just a few things I'd like to note, I do wish that there was a picture with every recipe. I kept having to Google pictures of the real deal to check if I was assembling/plating correctly. I also would've liked more details for certain ingredients, for example instead of calling for a "one pound package of kebab beef," I'd like to just know the cut of meat I'm looking for, as my store doesn't stock pre-cut kebab beef. Lastly, some of the serving sizes and ingredient ratios seemed a little off occasionally, so keep an eye on that when you're cooking, but none of these were dealbreakers for me.
In conclusion, we thought this cookbook was absolutely magical. If you can't go to Disney (we're the middle of in a global pandemic, you may have noticed) you can certainly bring a little pixie dust to your kitchen. The recipes were easy to follow, the visuals were lovely, and narratives, cooking tips, and fun facts were informative and well written. Buy it for yourself, or if you've got a Disneyphile in your life I think this would be a home-run holiday gift. Then you can just whip up one of these bad boys, turn on your humidifier, put the heat up to 90°, and imagine yourself baking in the Orlando sunshine as you bite into the Disney treat of your choice as you escape from this pandemic hellscape for one hot second.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Adams Media for sharing a copy of this book with me for review!
OMG this is fabulous book!
I can’t wait to make them all they actually all look delicious 🤤 and I want them all!
which one to make first is the question
This is next best thing as I don’t think we will be going there anytime soon!
We can all dream of Mickey x
Thanks NetGalley for the Arc copy to start cooking and baking in exchange for an honest review.

Need a stay-cation during CoVid quarantine, pick up a copy of The Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook and feast your way through the parks.
Full of wonderful park trivia and info about the locations and eateries each recipe comes from this book will delight the tastebuds of your family. You can relive past park visit or plan future visits. These dishes will get the family talking and excited about all things Disney.
This is a must buy for any Disney fan.
My Disney-loving heart sings! This is the most delightfully fun cookbook, and I was happily surprised at not only the number of recipes, but how much effort clearly went into each one.
I grew up in Georgia, so not necessarily close to Walt Disney World, but not so far that I had to fly to it. I'd been a few times as a child, and once as an adult just a year ago almost to the day. It's one of my favorite places, and the cookbook had several of my favorite snacks. The editing is clean, cleaner than many of the cookbooks I've looked at lately, and you can tell a lot of love and effort went into it. It made me actively want to seek out Disneyland all the way in California just to try some of the sweets that aren't available to me in the Orlando parks.
I am taking a star just for the lack of ease in the technical execution of the recipes. I just wish it were a little more accessible in terms of making them. Some of it I understand, but the equipment suggested at the beginning is excessive, especially considering when I got to some of the recipes that called for some of the more tricky equipment (looking at you, ice cream machine, electric pressure cooker, and immersion blender), you could easily have used other options rather than the suggested equipment. Craft does acknowledge this, to be fair! It does make the recipes more difficult to make without the fancier equipment. Also, more food pictures. The pictures that were there were bright and colorful, really lovely and inviting, but I wish there had been more of them. There are a surprising number of recipes in the book, but the ones I felt most excited to attempt were the ones with pictures.
Now I just have to show some restraint with the Dole Whip recipe. As my sister has to remind me whenever we go to Disney World, "You can't have Dole Whip for EVERY meal."
This is the best gift for any Disney and food lover. I feel like I'm actually inside Disney when reading this book. There are maps for every Disney park with recipes for the food you can get in that park! One thing I love about the book is that it doesn't just feature sweet recipes. There are savory recipes too like Cheeseburger Steamed Pods from Animal Kingdom and Loaded Buffalo Chicken Tots from Magic Kingdom. The famous Dole Whip and The Grey Stuff is also in here! Could you ask for more in a cookbook? The recipes are easy to follow and would be great to make as a fun family activity. The pictures are gorgeous and the book itself is a great quality has a permanent place on my shelf. I'm so excited to have a Disney party and showcase all of these fun recipes so we can pretend we're actually in Disney. Can't wait to eat around the parks at home! Thank you SO much for this ARC!
I love that this book includes all of the most popular Disney World treats! The recipes I have tried so far have been very very close to the real thing, and in a time when traveling to the most magical place on earth is not possible, these recipes give me the magic at home!
This is a great cookbook for Disney fans! The recipes include all of your Disney park favorite foods. The recipes are simple, with easy to follow directions; perfect for beginning cooks/bakers. I can't wait to try out a few of the recipes myself. Each chapter gives an overview of each park, the foods associated with it, and where to find them. I especially enjoyed reading the backstories of each restaurant and each dish. It made for a fascinating read! This book would make a great gift for all your Disney fan friends!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
As someone who loves baking, this book is gold! The recipes worked so well and came out beautifully, and there were so many different recipes! The only things that I didn't like were how some of the required equipment were things that most people don't usually have in their kitchen. Other than that, my only issue was with the pictures. I know that it can be expensive to have lots of big photos in a cookbook, but maybe a smaller image on each page would have made this a bit better. Other than that, I loved this book, and I recommend it if you enjoy Disney and cooking.
I loved this cookbook but am definitely biased by being a lifelong Disney fan. The instructions are easy to follow, with difficulty ranging from beginner to expert. Photos aren’t included with every recipe, but the ones that have them are gorgeous and mouth-watering. This will make a great gift for anyone missing the parks right now.
As a huge Disney fan and avid Disney parks-goer, I was incredibly excited to get the eARC of this cookbook! There are so many classic Disney treats that my family and I stop for every trip that are part of what make the Disney experience so special and memorable. I was thrilled to see recipes for many of these treats, like Dole Whip and pretzels, in this book, as well as a number that I'm very excited to try, including recipes from Pandora and Galaxy's Edge. Two of the things I'm most excited for are to finally be able to adapt some classic Disney treats for my non-pork/beef eating family to try them for the first time, as well as to try treats I've heard about from the California parks since I live on the East Coast and haven't been able to make it there in many years!
The recipes seem very manageable, and range from simpler dishes to more complex items. There's something for everyone! I'm going to have a great time working my way through this cookbook and enjoying delicious Disney treats and memories with my family, especially while we're at home during the pandemic and can't make it to the parks. It's like getting some Disney magic at home!
This book is a wonderful collection of recipes for Disney fans! Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy. The photos and maps take you back to the park and help to re-create the memories of being there. I have purchased copies for the Disney fans in my family, They will love the easy to follow recipes for their favourite eats and treats!
This is a really fun cook book. I like that the recipes are easy to follow and the author also provides a good introduction to the kitchen tools needed for the recipes in the introduction of the book. This helps make the recipes more accessible for people who are less experienced in the kitchen and also easier for the whole family to cook together. There are some more challenging recipes too for more experienced chefs looking to try something new. I also appreciated the information about the parks. I personally am more familiar with Disneyland in California so I enjoyed learning about parks and foods that are unique to Florida. The author gives an overview of each of the parks in the beginning of the book and more detailed information with each recipe. There are also extra facts about the parks and foods that pop up throughout the book providing even more interesting information. All around this is an informative and creative book that is sure to delight Disney fans looking to recreate some magic in their own kitchen.
So many great recipes! I found so many things to make. I really liked how the recipes were broken up and the description of the kitchen tools needed to complete the recipes. I will forever be returning to this book to make disney food at home.
Every Disney fan needs to get a copy of this book, especially now that the California Disney parks are closed. A huge part of the Disney experience is getting everyone's favorite foods, and the author of this book understands that. There are so many things to choose that we frequently don't get to try them all. Now, the Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook helps us to make these things at home!
This book is very inclusive, covering recipes from restaurants and different lands from all around the parks. It can't possibly include everything but does a really good ob of hitting the high points and the most popular items, including the Grey Stuff that was so trendy all over social media when it initially debuted.
Recipes are clear, instructions are easy to follow and photos help give the reader a positive visual experience. The chapters on equipment and gear are helpful to encourage even beginning cooks. My only beef is that there aren't photos for every recipe, but it may be that the hard copy version does have more photographs.
For those who read the book and are not frequent guests to any of the parks, they'll be treated to a brief overview of each area. As a California resident with only two WDW visits under my belt, I enjoyed reading about EPCOT, and I was happy to see so many Disney California Adventure recipes available, including the infamous corn dogs and beignets. Each recipe also includes a Did You Know? section, revealing a tip or piece of trivia that is fun to use in conversation, and some of them may surprise even those who think they know everything Disney.
I only have the digital copy of the book at this time, but I would purchase a hard copy to add to my cookbook collection. It's a gem for any Disney lover and worthy of prime real estate on my shelf and it would make a perfect Christmas gift for a foodie who is missing their Disney food fix.
Who is not obsessed with Disneyland treats?? This book lays out what you need with simple instructions on how to make it. Absolutely loved this quick and easy and enticing read. Highly recommend. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Fantastic trip through Disney Parks via recipes for Disneyphiles who are missing their Park experiences. Perfect timing to be published during the Covid Pandemic so we can bring a taste of Disney into our home.
Each recipe has a tidbit about the park and are well presented and organized. They are easy recipes mostly snack foods. Spoiler, there's a recipe for a version of Dole Whip, that elusive bucket list dessert we all love.
This will make a great gift for anyone who loves Disney.
This book is full of yummy recipes! I love everything disney and am enjoying trying these easy to follow recipes. I will be ordering this for the library because many of our patrons are big disney fans.
The Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook by Ashley Craft is incredible! The information and connections regarding the recipes are fantastic. I am sure I will revisit this resource over and over whether I am actually cooking or not. The recipes are clear and uncomplicated. I actually made the Mickey Sugar Cookies. They were delicious and a snap to make. Next on my list to make is Norwegian School Bread. The variety of recipes is terrific, too. Thank you to NetGalley and Adams Media for the opportunity to review this cookbook!
Anyone who loves disney and disney parks would love this book. It had tons of delicious recipes. If you are unable to afford to go to a disney park then this book is perfect for you.
Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book received in exchange for an honest review.
This book is for all you Disnerds out there! It has all the classics, plus some new treats from the newer parks! I'm so excited to be able to make dole whip whenever I want AND impress my friends with some interesting looking meals (check out the Star Wars and Avatar recipes!) This recipe book will keep me busy for years.
I wasn't able to make ALL the recipes before writing my review, but I tried a few of the recipes. Great success! I even converted them to gluten and dairy free with no issues.
While I loved the recipes and the layout, I do wish there were more pictures!
I love all things disney, and love this cookbook! I knew when I saw Dole Whip on the cover, I needed to pick this up. I love the cover, the recipes, and the magic! Can’t wait to try making things!
This is a fun book full of Disney themed recipes! I can’t wait to try a lot of these.
I enjoyed the author’s commentary and recollections of visiting the parks.
A charming and well designed collection of recipes, THE UNOFFICIAL DISNEY PARKS COOKBOOK is a perfect purchase for Disney fans and beginning home cooks and bakers alike. Most of the recipes are simple and relatively straightforward, making them a great option for trying new things in the kitchen or with your Disney fan kids! I've had excellent results from a number of recipes in the cookbook, and once I replace my broken thermometer I'm looking forward to trying some of the recipes that require frying like Mickey Beignets and Churro Funnel Cakes.
The best combination there is: food and Disney. I really enjoyed this cookbook. I liked seeing how they make some of my favorite dishes. I also plan on trying to make a few like the lunch box dessert. Highly recommend for all Disney foodies
I enjoyed this cook book and how the author told you all the kitchen supplies you needed to make the recipes. They also give you little facts about each of the food items and everything is divided by park. I haven't tried any of the recipes yet but my top to try is the dole whip!!
I haven't been to a Disney park in a long time but I recognize some of recipes and can't wait to try others. I also like how the author gives a list of equipment you'll need and what park the recipe is from.
This is an exemplary body of work that is magical and came at the prefect time during the pandemic . I was fortunate to grow up near Disneyland and we spent every holiday and Birthday at the park enjoying these foods. I was thrilled to receive this for review . Disney is a big part of our lives and the Disney food is a important fun part of visiting the park. We believe in the magic of Disney and how it uplifts a family in joy. This book will bring the joy of Disney magic to your family .
This is a outstanding collection of 100 wonderful Disney park receipes . Many are from our childhood and beloved to so many of us Disney fans. I loved how the book was formatted. The listing of appliances, utensils and baking needs is very detailed and well done. The receipes are timeless memories of the many foods we all love from all the different lands, from snacks to the famous dole whip. From Adventure land BBQ to New Orleans Square . All the different lands are represented as well as California Adventure and even Epcot.
Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity. My review opinions are my own. This is a must buy for your home collection of cookbooks and Disney books. I will be buying copies for Christmas Presents. This will be a treasured book for all Disney lovers.
This book is a lot of fun and I love the thought Ashley Craft has put into both the recipes and the organization. There are maps showing where in which park you'll find each treat and it has me longing to go back to the Happiest Place on Earth. There are a few recipes here I hope to try, though I will say that as someone without much of a much of a sweet tooth this book has more sweet treats than I was expecting.
Many thanks to Adams Media and NetGalley for the advance copy.
We are definitely a Disney loving family so we couldn't wait to read through this cookbook!
My husband and I enjoyed the selection of recipes in this cookbook. We picked a few to try. Ok he did so he could prepare them. I am more of a baker so I made the cookies.
We would have liked a few more pictures of the finished product but it wasn't too big of a deal since you can google the name of any Disney food item and there's tons of online pictures. Disney is pretty strict on their standards so all pictures are similar.
💜Bengal Beef Skewers (the sauce is good on chicken as seen on drumsticks)
💛Tiger Tail Breadsticks
💙Carrot Cake Cookies
The sauce for the Bengal Beef Skewers were amazing for that meal and for some chicken that my husband prepared later in the month. My picky-ish eaters loved it!
They weren't fans of the Breadsticks but more for us they were so yummy!
The carrot cake cookies were so decadent and so rich!
There was a few other recipes we may try in the future like Gaston's Cinnamon Roll, Mickeys Pretzel and the Clam Chowder to name a few I jotted down.
I definitely recommend this cookbook for those that love the parks and want to recreate their favorite dish at home!
For anyone who is a hugh fan of the Disney Theme Parks, this is a must have. Food scents create the strongest memories. Being able to recreate at home the foods that evoke wonderful memories is precious. The photos of those Disney treats are also well done.
This is not a book for those watching carbs and calories. However, I already have in mind a few people who would cherish this book as a gift.
I enjoyed using some of the recipes from this book alongside my children. They were charmed to be taken back to Disney via the creations tantalizing their taste buds. The recipes were well written and easy to follow. We are frequent Disney visitors and were familiar with many of the dishes. Would recommend to Disney fans. More pictures would have been welcomed,
This cookbook has been a godsend this year, My family does a yearly trip to Disney Land, and of course, that wasn’t really in the cards this year. We were going to take my nephew for the first time this year. We’ve been viewing videos of the rides, but it’s really not the same. But this book has been great. The recipes are clear and concise, and easy to follow. Every recipe I have tried has turned out almost exactly as I remember from the park. It’s been a delight to share some of these memories with my nephew. I would have liked more pictures, but I’ve really appreciated this recipe book. I look forward to owning a physical copy of this.

I love going to Disney World. The best part of the parks is eating the different types of food. Our best memory is staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. The food was amazing at Boma. This book shares the favorite recipes from not only Disney World but also Disney Land. Anyone familiar with the parks will recognize the Dole Whip, Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich, and the Beignets, Churros, Mickey Pretzels, and Funnel Cakes. The back of the book has measurements and conversion tables. If you are like me and love eating at Disney, you will definitely love this cookbook.
I think this cookbook was a real winner. Perfect for the cookbook collector, the Devoted Disney Fan or the home cook that just wants to add a bit of Disney magic to their kitchen, this book is beautiful to look at, fun to read and an inspiration that will have your mouthwatering and your mind eager to get cooking. A array of recipes is provided and there are many lovely photos to accompany them. Add in a bit of Disney history, a bunch of fun facts and some helpful tips and tricks and you have yourself a solid cookbook that educates and entertains. Personally I have made (and Loved!!) the Churros and Gaston’s Giant Cinnamon Rolls (which were AMAZING!!). Definitely looking forward to trying more as soon as I can. I will give you a heads up that a lot of these recipes require a deep fryer and some others will lose their "Disney" appearance without having special items like Disney themed cookie cutters or a Mickey shaped waffle iron and a few ingredients might be harder for others to find locally. Still, I really liked it and I think many others will too.
So many amazing recipes I want to try. Honestly it’s amazing. I have never been to Disney anywhere yet... but having these recipes for parties and family enjoyment is wonderful in the meantime.
My family loved the recipes in this book and it takes us back to Disney when we cannot physically go to Disney. The recipes are easy to follow and easy to make. We have loved bringing a little Disney home with us. We also enjoyed the stories about the parks and the layout of the cookbook by each park. A wonderful way to bring Dole Whip and Mickey Beinegts into your home!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishing house and the author for allowing me an advance copy of this book.
I’ve never been to a Disney park, but I have absolutely heard about the amazing foods and drinks offered so I was wicked excited to dive into The Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook!
The book starts out with a little bit of a description of each of the different parks followed by a quick section devoted to the equipment you’ll need for making your own Disney foods! After that, we dive into the recipes! The recipes are broken up into sections based on each of the parks mentioned in the introduction. Not having been to Disney myself, I couldn’t tell you if the recipes are in the section dedicated to the park that you can find the food and drinks in or not, but based on the map of the parks at the beginning of each section, I’m thinking that they are.
There were a ton of delicious sounding recipes. I’m really excited to try the cheeseburger spring rolls and the gray stuff (it’s delicious). Honestly, I think that if you’re a Disney fan or a fan of the parks, you’re going to love this cookbook!
I love Walt Disney World and have visited the park in Florida every few years since I was a child. I have some favorite treats that I get whenever I am there and I'm always looking for recipes to recreate these delicious dishes at home (strawberry soup and Dole Whip, I'm looking at you). This cookbook is whimsical and fun, and reminds me of all of the wonderful things about food and beverages in Disney World. I will definitely be picking up a physical copy of this cookbook to add to my other Disney cookbooks in the kitchen!
Having a daughter who used to be obsessed with the huge variety of Disney princesses and assorted other cartoons, we have visited Walt Disney World (and to a lesser extent Disneyland and even Disneyland Paris) many, many times. And they really do know how to perfect the customer experience – from when you get off the plane until you’re back at the airport, WDW can take care of just about everything…. for a price.
And although we have enjoyed the food, we never had really paid much attention to it – the rides have always driven our daily vacation planning. But I have become much more aware lately of the variety of food that’s available in the park, and the special treats that are very location specific within each park.
“The Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook” by Ashley Craft captures some of this magic. Ms. Craft presents a bit of history of each of the parks (probably nothing new to anyone who’s obsessed with this stuff), but then gets into the good stuff – how to replicate some of the special treats at home.
The recipes range from the overly simple (really - popcorn? chili lime corn (corn, butter, chili-lime seasoning)?) to the more complex (Gaston’s Giant Cinnamon Rolls, carnitas tacos) but it’s the special treats (Dole Whip, Grey Stuff, Blue Milk) and the bits of history behind them that make this cookbook fun.
Not only did this make me want to make these recipes at home, but this also whetted my appetite for another trip down to Orlando (when it’s safe to do so). And this time, I will have my food stops planned just as carefully as my rides.
I requested and received a free advanced electronic copy from Adams Media via NetGalley. Thank you!
The Unofficial Disney Parks cookbook is packed with recipes that transport you back to parks and let you experience the magic from home. From dole whips to Mickey pretzels, it is loaded with fan favorites. I really enjoyed that the cookbook included some of the food history of the Disney Parks and some fun food facts along the way. This cookbook is perfect for Disney fans!
I received a copy of this title from the publisher via NetGalley which did not affect the contents of my review. All opinions are my own.
This book is amazing!! My whole family fell in love with the treats and meals at Disney when we went a few years. When I showed them this book, they were so happy that we would have the recipes to some of their favorite things from our trip! I always thought that there was some secret magical recipe that Disney didn't want to share with all of us, but now I am so excited to have these recipes and to be able to provide some magic for my kids and family from Disney!
The recipes are easy to read and follow which makes it nice even for my 12 year old to be able to try these recipes as well! Such a great book that is a must have for Disney fans of all ages!
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book and all opinions are my own. Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for an advanced copy of this book!
Thank you NetGalley for this book in exchange for an honest review! I'm a love of all things Disney, which was why I was so excited to get this book! The book cover is absolutely stunning and just gives of Disney vibes! I loved going through the recipes, all written and approved by a Disney expert. I loved that the recipes were organized by theme parks so that it was very easy to simply immerse yourself into the nostalgia of exploring Disney World all over again, one park after the next. From Magic Kingdom to Epcot to Hollywood Studios and finally Animal Kingdom, we get a plethora of different and diverse recipes! Not only that, the cookbook is sprinkled with anecdotes and fun facts, making the book all the more special and magical. It's a wonderful book to have in your kitchen and makes a wonderful holiday gift!
The Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook by Ashley Craft is a fun cookbook that takes you on a culinary tour of the Disney Parks. If you are longing for some coveted Disney churros or a Mickey waffle, this book has it all. It is a well-organized and easy to follow book of recipes that will make a staycation a little bit easier.
The book starts off with quite a lot of information about the food at the US Disney Parks and a backgrounder on how the author came to create the collection of recipes. There is also an extensive list of supplies included for those who are looking to whip up some of these copy-cat recipes. Although there aren’t as many images in the book that show off the various dishes that are included in the book, they are colourful and stunning.

❀ LOTS OF DIFFERENT RECIPES TO CREATE
The book is divided into the various parks and there are quite a few different recipes to create from each area. Depending on how exact you are hoping your dish to be, there are quite a few items that will need to be purchased in advance. Items such as Mickey-shaped cookie cutters and a Mickey waffle iron might be needed for similar results. The instructions are fairly straightforward and many of the recipes are so basic that even the most inexperienced cooks can achieve success.
❀ PLEASING RESULTS
I am always up for trying a cookie recipe and created the Mickey Sugar Cookies. The recipe is a typical sugar cookie with the exception of the shape and the ideas for how to decorate it to achieve the same look as those you will find in the Magic Kingdom. I did purchase a Mickey cookie cutter and was quite pleased with the results.
❀ A CULINARY DISNEY TRIP
If you are a craving some Disney-inspired food, The Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook is definitely one recipe book to look for. There are many yummy and interesting recipes included in this book that will take you on a culinary Disney trip.
Since I have only been to Disneyland, this cookbook provided some nostalgia for me. If you have never been to Disneyland or Disneyworld, this could be a treat to cook clones of the foods they serve in the parks.
This would be suitable for Disney Parks fans to add to their arsenal
Ashley Craft was fortunate to grow up near Disneyland in California and, as an adult, she aimed to recreate many of the delectable treats she enjoyed there. Her cookbook is packed with mouthwatering recipes, some historical detail, and information about the kitchen tools you will need to prepare the goodies, along with fun little intros to each recipe and several bright photos.
Inside these pages you’ll find ingredients and clear directions for things like Churros, Cookies and Cream Mickey Cupcakes, Beignets and Corn Dog Nuggets! For the sake of this review, I made one of my favorite things: Chili. The ingredients were affordable and easy to access and the meal was simple to prepare. The final product was bursting with flavor and while I’ve rarely met a chili I didn’t like, this is definitely one of the best recipes I’ve had!
I’m looking forward to making (and eating!) more from this cookbook in the near future!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my digital review copy. All opinions are my own.
The Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook is available for purchase now!
As I go to review this book, I am immediately hungry for many of the Disney snacks I saw in real like at the parks or in the pages of this book. I am really missing the Parks and travel, so this book is exactly what I need and I think other Disney fans would need too. This book is more geared towards treats/snacks than actual meals from the parks. As you can imagine, the recipes are for largely unhealthy items ( just like in the park). The only real critique of this book is that you need to have a deep fryer for many recipes. I would recommend this book to any fans of theme park foods or Disney parks! Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an unbiased honest review.
Ashley Craft has created a beautiful cookbook based on the magical world of Disney. Craft takes the reader through Disneyland, Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and California Adventures. With each chapter she discuses each park and the food you can find with them. You can find Green Milk from Star Wars Galaxy's Edge to Night Blossom in The World of Avatar. I chose to make the Campfire Chili which can be found in Grizzly Peak of California Adventure. What I found unique to the chili is that it didn't require much liquid that would then need to be cooked down. It is heavy in the cumin and also has curry powder in it. I modified it by adding a yellow bell pepper to it plus I cut down the black beans from 3 cans to 2. After sampling the recipe, my husband and I agree that it is very tasty. I couldn't tell you if it is a good copy cat to the original as I've never been to California Adventure, but I did think it needed a little heat so I added cayenne and chili powder. Topped it off with shredded cheese, green onions and a dollop of sour cream :) I took a picture but I will try and post it later. This is a fun and wonderful book that would be a treasure to any Disney enthusiast. I wish it had the Waldorf Salad from Frontier Land. It's my absolute favorite.
I loved this book so much! I miss going to the parks, and it made me nostalgic for some wonderful memories. I can't wait to make so many of these recipes.
Anyone who has loved the Disney parks, and enjoyed the food served in them, will welcome The Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook: From Delicious Dole Whip to Tasty Mickey Pretzels, 100 Magical Disney-Inspired Recipes written by lifelong Disney lover Ashley Craft. Almost all of us have memories of eating favorite dishes at our various favorite Disney destinations, and this cookbook has recipes for many of them. While there are dozens of recipes for main and savory dishes, the book includes an extensive list of mouthwatering dessert recipes. The book is divided into different parks and includes recipes for dishes served in those places.
Since my Disney memories date back to long before Craft was even born, I was disappointed that most recipes were for more modern recipes. However, some of the treats, such as Frozen Chocolate-Covered Bananas and Fritters (2 favorites from Disney visits from the 60s and 70s), have stayed popular over the years and are included in this book. The recipes are written in an easy-to-follow manner, and most are simple enough to be successfully made by both beginning cooks as well as those who are more experienced.
There are very few photographs of the dishes, which is unfortunate, since most of us rely on them in a good cookbook to help us decide what to make.
Reading and cooking from this book will invoke memories of visiting Disney Parks and will make it very tempting to contact your travel agent and book a trip.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
The unofficial disney parks cookbook is amazing! I probably shouldn't have read this while I was hungry, because now all I can think about is disney food. I need to try these recipes asap. I loved the authors personal anecdotes about her disney food experience, and the history of food in disney parks. The only "downside" is that I would have loved more pictures. However, I understand that could be tricky- both for space, and for working around disney copyrights. I am definitely buying a hardcover copy of this book.
When I started to read this book, the realization hit me: The original Walt Disney World in the US offers more than what I experienced in Asia or Europe counterparts. Look at the menus! You can make tons of parties the whole year long copying their food and drinks alone here and there.
Being a Disneyland fans herself, the author commits into compiling scrumptious recipes from Disneyland to reminds you by the fun and magic experienced inside the park.
The Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook: From Delicious Dole Whip to Tasty Mickey Pretzels, 100 easy and delious recipes inspired by Walt Disney World by Ashley Craft is a fun cookbook. The drool making recipes are easy to follow, and I have already tried out a few recipes. This is the perfect cookbook for either making treats with, or for, your grandchildren. If you enjoy a cooking as much as I do, than I highly recommend this wonderful fun cookbook.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Thank you to Net Galley and Ashley Craft for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I teach a course on writing cookbooks and I love the way this one is set up. I also grew up a couple of miles from Disneyland and remember that their burgers were really good. So I was very excited to see this cookbook.
It is really fun to see the recipes for the things we buy for snacks at the park. And what a great way to have them cheaper and year round than buying this book. The churros are my favorite of the recipes. But there are many great ones.
We were planning a trip to Disney and saw that this book was available so I jumped at the chance to check this one out! Looking forward to making some of the yummy deliciousness!!! Everything looks so GOOD!
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC!!!
I actually really liked this cook book! As a frequent park goer, I found some really cool treats I could replicate at home. The recipes were fairly easy to follow and were pretty taste. Also something fun to do with the family for a movie night. I will be picking up a hardcover copy to have for my collection!
This is a super fun cookbook. I really enjoyed this one!
Many thanks to the author, the publisher, and Netgalley for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
In a year when the parks were closed/inaccessible, this book kept me fully immersed in the Disney park experience. I used several of the recipes for my Disney-themed birthday party, having bought a physical copy of the book!
I love this cookbook. I was so excited to try some of the food I’d enjoyed at different Disney parks, and for the most point the recipes were spot on! I like how the chapters are divided by park, it’s easier to find a recipe for a specific food. The recipes are primarily sweet, so you might not find the savory recipe you’re looking for. I’ve made the churros, pork belly skewers, clam chowder, Dole whip (of course!),
I hope the author issues an update in the future, Disney adds more food every day! 5 stars.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Having just traveled to Disney before requesting this book, I was happy to see some of our favorite recipes from the park. My son and I looked at it together and thought the recipes were easy for the whole family to prepare together.
This is such a fun cookbook for any Disney fan. I love the way it's laid out by not only each park but also specific sections of the parks. The recipes are easy to read and follow. The construction of the book adds to the fun of it. High quality, glossy pages with vibrant pictures and a beautiful purple hardcover. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves Disney and cooking.
