Loved it! I read it with my four year old and 1 year old. They seemed to enjoy the story and the art work is beautiful. Will definitely be reading this again
Thanks to NetGalley and Owlkids Book for allowing my kids and me an early read on this super adorable hibernation story. The illustrations in this book are wonderful and the kids and I especially loved the use of speech bubbles and the comic book feel of the book. We have just finished a unit on hibernation so I was pleasantly surprised by this book. The kids wanted to read again. We look forward to purchasing and sharing with other friends.

Poppy and Sam and the Search for Sleep was a very fun and educational book about hibernation; in the story a child can learn more about what animals hibernate, where they hibernate, and also why some animals don't hibernate. This story is cute and funny because humans don't hibernate but Sam, the panda companion, tries to help his human friend, Poppy, get to sleep for the winter. This story focuses on themes of bedtime, preparation, seasons changing, animals, hibernation, and animal habitats and practices. I would enjoy reading more books like this with my children, this one was delightful! Thank you, Cathon, for writing this beautiful and fun loving story.
Vibrant illustrations, charming characters, and a journey towards seasonal hibernation make this kids read a fave.
Ahhh! This was so cute! My daughter loved the first one so much, that when I saw there was another I knew we had to read it together right away! She said the lullaby was the best part, she was cracking up. The art is adorable, and there’s not too much text for a new reader, but we all enjoyed it together
What a precious book! The illustrations were so sweet and detailed. Young readers will love meeting all the different creatures and will smile at the ending when Sam and Poppy finally get to sleep just when they stop trying.
I received an electronic ARC from Owlkids Books through NetGalley.
Charming story about two friends - a human and a panda - who prepare to hibernate for the winter. Unfortunately, Poppy can't fall asleep so wakes Sam up to get some tips. Together, they consult other animals who sleep too. Each offers advice that doesn't work. Eventually, they find animals (mice) who don't hibernate and join them. No surprise that both finally fall asleep.
This is book three in this series. Cathon's illustrations are detailed and capture the joy and friendship as well as the humor in this situation. Readers will love the characters and certainly relate to not being able to fall asleep.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.. It was such a cute book about sleep and how a bunch of different animals sleep or hibernate.
This is an adorable picture book for kindergarteners. At 2 and 5, my children just don't want to go to bed, ever. It is a time when I'm finding it difficult to lull them to sleep, they always want to play, even when they are falling off their chair from shear exhaustion, they would do anything rather than sleep! So what a surprise it is to see heroes running around trying to sleep and meeting fun characters, trying out different sleeping methods, growing frustrated at not sleeping! We followed their surprisingly fun journey very happily and even I enjoyed their adventure.
The pictures are rounded and extremely cute in a modern way. The colours are vibrant and fun. The comic book bubble style fits the mood perfectly.
I really recommend that book, I will look more into the series and can see myself reading it again and again at bedtime.
This adorable little installment of the Poppy & Sam series is the perfect beginner's graphic novel. It's filled with colorful and perfectly autumnal illustrations. Poppy is having trouble sleeping so Sam goes on a quest with her to find the solution to Poppy's insomnia.
This book is about Poppy and Sam, a little girl and a panda bear who visit different friends to figure out how to fall asleep and hibernate. Adorable, colorful illustrations accompany an interesting adventure story. This would be a great book for children who have trouble falling asleep!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC.
