Really cool book with typical British recipes veganised! Having lived in the UK for a few years now makes me appreciate more their cuisine. Can't wait to try some of these! Loved the photography too.
Fantastic vegan cookbook.Eye pleasing recipes I can follow.A book that really in an understandable manner guides us into. the vegan world.#netgalley#greatbritishvegab
This is a fantastic book to begin your vegan journey. Recipes are simple without any difficult ingredients, making it less intimidating. All classic dishes are present so your able to include your favorite dishes in your new lifestyle
Oh my gosh! This is a fabulous vegan cookbook. It is worth its weight in gold for the vegan sausage recipe alone. Welsh rarefied, scones, Victoria Sponge, finger sandwiches? All of the recipes seem approachable and delicious. And they use easy to find ingredients. A bonus for vegan cooking.
Wow! the author has really worked hard on veganizing many traditional British recipes. I hadn't even thought about all these oldies, and how they could be veganized, for example Wellington and Jaffa cakes. The latter is definitely something I'll try to bake soon. Now I wonder why I haven't thought about making them before.
Not being a Brit myself I have no craving for a typical British breakfast, but I am happy to see that it is easy to make a vegan version, without just having to stick to toast, tomatoes and beans. Welsh rarebit has been one of my favourite "fast food" for ages, and I'll be sure to try the recipe in this book as well.
One of the recipes I am interested in is Tofish and chips. It sounds perfect for one of those days you crave salt and grease. Britain is not famous for salads, or lighter meals in general, which I was reminded of when reading this book. Quite heavy and fatty food for me in general, but eaten once in a while I can deal with these kind of food. The pictures are great, and especially for the reason that I can immediately tell if the food is for me or not.
Most definitely worth checking out, because there is such a variety of recipes, and something for everyone.
Yum! I’m always looking for vegan recipes. There are so many great recipes in this book that I look forward to trying out at home. I’ve bookmarked a few to try next weekend. Plenty of mains and puddings to try. Who knew you could veganize classic British dishes?
I like reading vegan cookbooks because they give me ideas of vegan meals that I can make to eat more healthfully part of the week, and this cookbook does a great job of that!
I liked this book. I thought it a lovely resource for anyone wanting to delve into the world of vegetarianism. The recipes are simple and suitable for everyday cooking
A really good cookbook if you are already Vegan or contemplating taking the first steps towards it. There are recipes for all occasions and lots of new takes on classic British dishes, pretty much everything you might fancy is here and reimagined. I particularly loved that there was an Iced Gem recipe!
There's a good mix of recipes and photos, and the photos were bright and colourful and made the contents look very appetising. Most recipes had very few steps as well so I imagine its an easy one to follow. I'd definitely consider purchasing this one for the Vegan's in the family.
"Great British Vegan" is another perfect cookbook for vegans and people who wants to try veganism, maybe as their new year's resolution.
The theme of the book is "typical British cuisine", which basically means that the recipes included are the veganised versions of staple dishes. The ingredient lists are simple and contain almost exclusively easily accessible products. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Moreover, the photographs of the dishes are absolutely stunning and mouth-watering.
This is one of the cookbooks that I definitely want to own and use as often as I can. I'll be testing some recipes in the coming weeks. "Great British Vegan" is not only a very pretty cookbook, but it is also usable and accessible for everyone.
Having grown up eating traditional English meals, I was excited to try out some of these recipes made vegan. My absolute favourite was the Yorkshire puddings which I made alongside the Aimee’s other roast dishes - crispy potatoes and maple carrot and Swede. If you enjoy English food and want to try veganised versions then this is the book for you! I loved it and can’t wait to try cooking more of the dishes.
The Great British Vegan recipe book by @wallflowerkitchen is a great entry point to anyone looking to veganise their favourite British dishes. Over the recent holidays, I tried a few dishes from this book and can confidently say that this is a book I will keep going back to. The recipes are fairly straight forward and created with ingredients that you’ll mostly find in your local supermarket which makes them great for anyone from beginners in the kitchen to cooking connoisseurs.
If you’re looking to decrease your intake of meat or you’re a vegetarian or vegan who misses pub food, English fry ups, sausages, bacon, cakes etc, this could be a great starting point. Now there are a couple of pantry essentials when veganising dishes which are named in the book but I highly recommend investing in them as they are so versatile and can be used in lots of dishes beyond this book too.
Now I know that when some people see the word vegan, their eyes glaze over or they run for the hills out of fear of conversion but as someone who honestly got anxiety when asked to prepare a meal, since cutting out meat, I’ve felt much more confident in the kitchen and I now actively seek out new recipes. Whether you’re someone who likes to experiment in the kitchen or someone who gets a bit nervous at the thought of cooking, I would recommend this book to you because the recipes are simple and easy to follow. Plus @wallflowerkitchen is just so lovely to chat to and very responsive to DMs, so you know you’ll have someone to turn to for help if you have any questions.

If you’re craving your favourite British comfort foods, but also want to embrace a plant-based lifestyle, then Great British Vegan is the book is for you.
Whether you’re vegan, flexitarian or merely interested in cutting down on your meat consumption, there’s no reason you can’t still indulge in all your favourite British classics, using easy-to-find ingredients.
With great-tasting, simple to make home-style recipes that will comfort as well as nourish, this book makes sure you’ll never miss out on Sunday roasts, full English breakfasts or afternoon teas again.
This unique take on vegan cooking reimagines over 80 classic British dishes including Full English, Shepherd's Pie, Banger's & Mash, Yorkshire Puddings, Beer Battered (To)Fish & Chips, Sausage Rolls, Welsh Rarebit, Scottish Shortbread, Eton Mess and Sticky Toffee Pudding.
I'm always so tempted by traditional British dishes, but then I'm immediately disappointed when I realize that I can't have them because they almost always include ingredients that aren't compatible with a vegan lifestyle. So when I came across this book, I just couldn't resist.
The first thing that I noticed was Aimee Ryan's obvious love for the comfort foods that she had grown up with. I completely understood her desire to veganize the foods that she is most familiar with, and I'm more than happy to take advantage of the benefits of her hard work!
The author makes it clear that she's a home cook rather than a chef, which is reassuring. The recipes are easy to follow, and don't have long lists of complicated ingredients. All of the ingredients can be found at a local store, with the exception of one, which is an optional ingredient that is only used in some of the recipes.
The photos are gorgeous, and made my mouth water. The recipes are broken into a variety of categories, including breakfasts, soups and salads, weeknight dinners, Sunday roast, pub grub, afternoon tea, sweets, puddings and desserts, British bakes, and festive feast. I bookmarked so many of the recipes, and was not expecting to see so many recipes that I couldn't wait to make. In addition, I was pleasantly surprised to see vegan recipes for foods that I never thought I'd be able to eat again - like fish and chips, bacon strips, and a BLT salad.
Not only that, but there's so many things that I can't wait to try for the first time, like a full English breakfast, shepherd's pie, and artichoke fishcakes. The desserts sound incredible, and I'm already trying to make the difficult choice of which one to make first!
I've already recommended this to a friend, and cannot wait to get started in the kitchen. The hardest thing is picking which recipe to try out first.
Growing up in the United Kingdom I was super excited to review this book. I love British food, but am keen to find some more health conscious versions of my favorites. I was also keen to find out what the author thought those meals would be.
First, let me say that she is spot on with the classics in this book. I know many of them and in the Great British vegan this is exactly the types of meals I expect to find.
Second, I was blown away by how many alternatives she presents in this book. We have meals for all times in the day and all seasons of the year. Incredible.
Third, the book was really well presented. All the recipes seemed very straightforwardly described. The pictures were beautiful, really showing you what the result would look like. Also, they confirmed to me that she was really striving for the recipes she decided to "veganize".
All in all this book delivers on its promises, vegan alternatives to Great British classics, and I am excited to have it as a resource for making these recipes as I look to eat what I enjoy but be mindful of my health.
The Great British Vegan has EVERY British comfort dish you can imagine, turned vegan. I'm in love with this book the recipes are so yummy and fairly easy to execute. The Tofish with a sheet of nori is pure genius. I loved every photo in this book and can't wait to try every recipe.
The name says it all. It is literally the most British cookbook - but the vegan version.
Its pros are also its cons, so it just depends what you are looking for.
This contains pretty much EVERY typical British recipe on the planet as a vegan alternative. From bacon to haggis, it's all there. Now this begs the question of why we need an exact replica of meat but if you want to recreate all the meals or if you want to show your friends and family (or yourself) that vegans don't just eat salads and tofu, then this is the book for you. It is also great for family events if you want to contribute a tradional dish.
So it does exactly what it says on the tin, and it does it well. And it has a great introduction, explaining how to "swap" products for their vegan alternative.
If however you are after interesting new vegan ideas, as this is very much focused on veganising what already exists. For me personally, it's too close to meat and I don't like feeling like everything is being replaced. I like meals that stand for themselves, but then, this is the Great British Vegan.
I was provided with an advance copy of this book through NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.
I've been Vegan for over a year now and while I enjoy experimenting with new dishes sometimes nothing hits the spot like something cosy and familiar. That's where Great British Vegan comes in. Aimee Ryan has put together a book full of nostalgic British dishes - from pub grub to afternoon tea. The recipes are nicely laid out with simple instructions. I'm excited to try out some of these recipes on family and friends, especially those who are nervous to try new and/or Vegan foods.
I'll update this review once I've tried a good selection of the recipes but so far I'm excited!
This book is a joyful cookbook that is perfect for fans of GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF, is a Brit or Anglophile, or just wants to up their vegan baking game. With everything from vegan coconut whipped creme to a vegan take on a Wellington or Bakewell, there is a good variety and mix of easy weeknight recipes to fun, festive challenges. It may not be perfect for a novice baker who is using this to get into the kitchen for the first time but it is very approachable and has a wide range of easy to more involved bakes.
As a vegetarian most of my food includes dairy in some form or other, usually far too much cheese...! This book has some great ideas for meals which are interesting and filling enough without needing to add dairy - there are new recipes I haven’t tried before (I’m looking forward to trying the pumpkin, apple and ginger soup) and others where there are easy replacements for the animal products typically included. A lot of vegan recipes I’ve seen before have long lists of rare ingredients to replace the meat or dairy, whereas these recipes are very user-friendly - there’s also a very handy guide showing what works well as replacements for various non-vegan products.
Great photos and colours, which I always look for in my recipe books to make me more likely to cook the recipes!
With thanks to NetGalley and White Lion Publishing for an advance copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
The British are very self-deprecating about their cuisine, but I love British comfort food. I received a digital ARC of this book and decided to order a physical copy because so many of the recipes sounded delish!
I look forward to vegan bangers and mash, fish and chips, coronation chickpeas and more!
This book looks great. There are lots of simple and different vegan recipes here. The book is well presented with lovely images. So far I’ve only made the vegan breakfast sausages - they were delicious.
* I recieved this book as a feee eARC from White Lion Publishing and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review *
This book is incredible! A perfect collection of recipes for any fan of classic UK meals and pub grub. It included plant-based recipes for all the British staple meals. The writing is accessible, and the book includes lists of frequent substitutions and what fruits and vegetables are in season when. The recipes are broken down into easily accomplishable steps, making even the most labor intensive meals seem accomplishable. I can’t wait to attempt a vegan Welsh Rarebit of my own!
Loved this book. Typically British meals, veganised - who could complain? Recipes are well set out and the pictures will make your mouth water
It’s a really nice cookbook with classic British recipes made vegan. Definitely a book that had been missing on the market and so helpful for family dinners and Sunday lunches. Can’t wait to try more recipes and experiment.
This is one of my favourite vegan cookery books to come out recently.
There are versions of all the classic British comfort foods. The recipes are easy to follow and don't require lots of hard to find ingredients and most importantly, they work and taste great.
The baking section is fantastic.
It's really nicely laid out with clear instructions and great photography.
I will definitely be recommending this one.
I received a digital pdf version of this book through NetGalley for review.
I am not a vegan, but I have been missing England and their food. I was able to do an educational program there a few summers ago, and food connects me to the memories. I wasn't crazy about British food, but I believe it's because it is so heavy. I figured this would be interesting, considering it's a vegan take.
A lot of the recipes call for ingredients I don't normally have in my kitchen because I am not a vegan. Some of the recipes look doable if you purchase just a few ingredients, and others look easy to convert to ingredients I would normally have. There are photos of the foods in the recipe book, and WOW! They look absolutely delicious. If there was a vegan British restaurant that served food like this, it would be very popular and I would eat from there!
I think this is a great cookbook for vegans who are looking to diversify their menu.
This is such a cool cookbook! It's so nice to see what the British vegan community eats for there different meals. I'm definitely excited to make some of these recipes although I might have to hunt down some of these ingredients or make some substitutions.
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review!
First of all, this is a pretty book. Very organized content and beautiful photos makes it a collectible that I am happy keep around and pass on to my children when they grow up.
My daughter is allergic to dairy and eggs so I am constantly on the look out for new recipes that could excite her taste buds. It is lovely to see a collection of classic British dishes being executed with vegan ingredients.
Quite a handful of recipes call for "vegan essentials" items such as vegan mayo, vegan butter, coconut cream, cashew cream etc. which can be made from scratch (instructions provided) or purchase in store for convenience. These ready-to-eat essentials makes preparation easier and open doors to endless creativity.
I'm not a vegan but this book still has recipes I would use. Some great information and great hacks for vegan recipes. I had no idea how to make vegan bacon before reading this book.
Some great tips on vegan baking and also so lovely salads that vegans and non vegans can enjoy.
For years, Aimee Ryan has been providing the world with delicious recipes and gorgeous food photography; this cookbook extenuates her talent. Brimming with drool-worthy pictures and simple recipes, Great British Vegan, is a fantastic cookbook for non-vegans and vegans alike. Aimee gives us classic British cuisine with a twist, coming from someone who has never had a British dish in her life, this is the most exciting part. I get to travel through my food at home. All these recipes are simple, straight-forward, and consist of easy-to-obtain ingredients. Before I dive into any recipe from a cookbook, I flip through every page, read every single word on the page, and bookmark all the recipes I find interesting; I have nearly every single page bookmarked! I can't wait to cook through this cookbook!
4☆ Delicious, Wholesome, Vegan Cookbook
Wow this book literally has something for everyone. I'm not vegetarian or vegan so this is a review based on my love for cooking and trying new things.
I was very pleasantly surprised at just how much was in here that I would actually eat.
I'm a keen Baker and always looking for new healthier recipes and never really find any vegan / vegetarian recipes that appeal to me. However I think this book has nailed it.
Exciting wholesale bakes that everyone loves such as Millionaire Shortbread, Hot Cross Buns, Carrot Cake, Viennese Whirls, Jaffa Cakes, Victoria Sponge, it even includes Home Made Pastry Recipes!
Oh and the other recipes are just as Mouthwatering....British Veggie Burger, Vegan Sausage Rolls, Yorkshire Puddings, Easy Lentil Loaf,
Beefy Mushroom Stew with Cauliflower Mash, Spag Bol, Lancashire Hotpot, Shepherd's Pie with Champ Mash.... just to give you an example of some of the hearty and comforting recipes included.
There is even a handy stockist guide at the back and a list of some of the ingredients to look out for if you have never heard of them before. Ie, Aquafaba which is the liquid from a can of beans or legumes as a substitute for egg whites.
All the recipes ingredients are written with several metric options including Spoons, Grams, Oz, & occasionally cup measurements. The methods are pretty easy to follow.
In regards to the recipes being cost effective, I'm afraid I can't comment as I've never purchased substitute ingredients before so don't know how expensive they are or how long they last once opened.
Overall I'm very excited about this book.
It's everything I love in a cookbook, Mouthwatering Photography, Easy and Recognisable Recipes none are overly complex or particularly fancy.
Just wholesome, hearty, food that is a great alternative to cooking/ baking.
This is a gorgeous book and will be running out to get myself a physical copy for my shelf! My favourite thing about it is there is a perfect combination of vegan takes on traditional dishes (tofish and chips, anyone?) but lots of new ideas to try as well. It really offers a wide variety of recipes from across the British Isles. The dessert recipes in particular are my favourite - I can't wait to make the jaffa cakes! I'm really pleased to have gotten access to this book to try and highly recommend it.
I like reading vegan cookbooks. I am flexitarian, but I like to experiment with vegan baking. This book is great. I like the cover too. The title represents what's inside. It covers pretty much most British dishes. To be honest, I am not so much into British dishes.. But this book is good for you who are into British kitchen style.
We have been trying to eat vegan or vegetarian a few times a week lately, and I was excited to try some recipes from a cuisine that I enjoy but don't commonly see vegan recipes for. We tried four recipes from this book and I'm excited to share the results!
Beer-Battered (To)fish & Chips
OMG this was so fun. The recipe has you add a nori "skin" to the tofu before frying, which we thought was so creative and did add just enough "seafood" flavor to give it an actual fried fish vibe. We cheated and made frozen fries because we were short on time, but the minted peas were delicious fresh addition. I would absolutely make this again!
"Cheesy" Pea Soup
We messed up on this, and I can't fault the recipe for my lapse in judgement! I'm allergic to cashews, and I hypothesized this would still work with a sunflower seed substitution. Alas, it did not! It turned out pretty though and I think this recipe has tasty potential.
Eton Mess
Here's a thing I will say, aquafaba is bean water. In my opinion no matter what you do, things made with it still taste... like bean water, so I was deeply skeptical. Fortunately strawberry puree covers a multitude of sins, and this turned out very tasty. The crunchy meringues, while a little unusual on their own, were a nice contrast to the creamy coconut whipped cream and the tart strawberries.
Haggis with Neeps, & Tatties
We made this recipe for a Zoom Burns Night with friends and it was fun to try, if a bit labor intensive to time four separate element to be ready at once. The vegan haggis had great flavor and texture, and went nicely with the recommended gravy!
The space on my cookbook shelf is limited, but this one might just have a permanent home there. There are dozens more recipes in this book I'd like to try. My one critique is that there was a fair amount of flipping around to recipe elements on other pages or sections of the book, which is especially annoying in digital format. I also had a little bit of difficulty sourcing ingredients, such as the King Edward potatoes for the (To)fish & Chips, but overall I was able to find what I needed or a easy substitution. The recipes are extremely thoughtful and clever, and I think vegans and non-vegans that enjoy British cuisine will enjoy this book! I give it 4/5 stars.
I loved the unique concept of this cookbook - as a British expat who eats 90% vegan, it was such an exciting discovery to find recipes of my favourite comfort meals in vegan form. Some of the meals I would adapt slightly as they didn't quite work for me, but I'm excited to try the others I haven't gotten around to (especially the bacon).
The recipe book was well laid-out and easy to follow, with most items available from local supermarkets. I appreciated how the author included different measurements (grams, ounces, cups, etc.) as I often have to Google the equivalent depending on what measurements I'm using. It was very accessible with excellent complimentary images that reflected the recipes.
The only downside for me was the desserts - I have such a sweet tooth and I'm always looking for vegan alternatives. However, I felt like many of the desserts were focused too much on taste rather than the ingredients going into them. There weren't enough natural sweeteners for me, which is something I tend to avoid (both vegan and non-vegan) if recipes don't take into account the sugar intake. That's just my opinion, but it did put me off wanting to make a lot of the desserts.
I'd still definitely buy this book for my friends that enjoy cooking and want to dabble in vegan recipes.
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* Not sure id eat everything in this book but i cant deny it all looks good and i want to buy this!
Great British Vegan by Aimee Ryan is an absolutely charming addition to vegan cookbooks collections. The title is obviously a play on the famous British show of the same name, and if you’ve watched GBBO, you’ll be familiar with many of the dishes, especially the baked desserts, mentioned throughout this book. The food photography is stunningly lovely and appetizing, the illustrations are charming, and almost every single recipe has a beautiful color photo accompaniment. No, the recipes aren’t particularly healthful. They’re certainly not whole food plant based, and are often heavy on flours and fats and sugars and vegan substitutes. But for a cosy treat, they sound perfect!
The book is very helpful, from offering a list of seasonal produce at the beginning of the book, to mentioning gluten free substitutes for some recipes to offering suggestions for plant-based products (Those are from mostly British companies, for what that’s worth.) . There’s plenty of recipes for building block ingredients that can be used in recipes throughout the book, from “bacon bits” and “crispy bacon strips” to easy custard and cashew cream and cheese sauces. Measurements are provided in both grams and ounces/pounds/etc.
I’m a bit more limited in which recipes I can use, because the author uses oats heavily, and I can’t eat even gluten free oats. I also prefer not to eat the amount of refined fat many of these recipes call for. But even so, even for me, there were many recipes that sounded both safe and delightful, from Leftovers Bubble and Squeak, to Cider and Bean Stew with Herby Dumplings, Cheesy Pea Soup, Brussel Sprouts with Chestnuts and Bacon Bits, Beefy Mushroom Stew with Cauliflower Mash, Golden Roasted Parsnips and Carrots, three kinds of gravy, Artichoke Fishcakes with Dill Mayo, and Beer Battered Tofish and Chips with mushy peas (I’d have to do some tweaking on that last one for it to fit my restrictions, but the idea of laying sheets of seaweed across chunks of tofu to create both the skin feel and ocean flavor of fish really seems like it could be amazing.). There’s also mouthwatering dessert recipes that would be difficult to tweak to my standards, but gosh it might be worth trying, from Lemon Drizzle Loaf and Earl Grey Tea Loaf, to Christmas Cake and Chocolate Orange Christmas Pudding and Jaffa Cakes and Eton Mess.
Overall, a delightful cookbook, full of gorgeous food photography, mouthwatering, if not super healthy, recipes, and familiar favorite British dishes perfect for cosy treats. As long as you can eat gluten free oats, many of the recipes can be made gluten free. Perfect for vegan or vegan-curious cooks, especially if they’re also Anglophiles and/or big fans of the Great British Bake Off. An enjoyable browsing experience regardless. Thank you to #NetGalley and Quarto for letting me read a temporary digital #advancedcopy of #GreatBritishVegan in exchange for my honest review.
If you love classic British food and a vegan (or want to eat vegan) then this is the cookbook for you. You can have your English Breakfast, Bangers and Mash, Fish and Chips, or Yorkshire pudding without any animal products. Just about every quintessential recipe is in here including those that an American would get at a British style pub. I am excited to try the Tofu and Chips as well as the Yorkshire Pudding. About half of the book is desserts with everything from Sticky Toffee Pudding to Victoria Sponge and Bread Pudding.
While I had hoped for more pictures there always seemed to be a picture of the dished I really needed since I was not sure what they were. Also some ingredients are called different things in England so there is a handy list at the front of the book along with a vegan substitutes chart. I can't wait to try these. Now only if there was a vegan British pub near me so I didn't have to cook.
This is such a great cookbook.
The selection of British classics is excellent and the twists to make these recipes vegan are ever so clever !
You can feel the author has tried and tested many variations to finally select the version offered in this book.
I am neither vegetarian or vegan but like many other people, I tend to cut down on my meat intake and I love discovering recipes that can help me towards a healthier, more balanced diet.
The problem is to find doable tasty recipes and they are plenty here.
What I have tried from this book so far were mostly alternatives to take to work or/and for a quick lunch ( love the Coronation chickpea salad and the "porkie "pies) and then lovely ideas for supper (I have a dislike for tofu but the Tofu korma tasted great, as did the Portobello steak and kidney pie).
My favorite winter dessert from the book is the Chocolate orange Christmas pudding which can be made traditionally or baked for 3 mns in the microwave as a more ordinary pudding. So clever and so delicious !
One last thing I would like to highlight is the fact that the ingredients do not include weird ready made minces, sausages or condiments, everything is usually available from standard supermarkets, so no special inverstment or search there.
So, as far as I am concerned, this book is definitely a winner and a keeper.
Congratulations on your first book Aimée Ryan, I will definitely be looking up your next one :-)
As it implies in the title, these recipes are traditionally British with vegan substitutes where necessary. There are twelve chapters of recipes following the introduction. There is a short, but useful, ingredients guide and vegan swap suggestions. The list of seasonal fruit and veg is helpful to see, at a glance, what is freshest at that time of year and therefore probably more flavourful. With mostly very simple substitutes and tempting photos the author manages to create some very inviting recipes. I'm looking forward to testing out the Lemon Drizzle Loaf, as well as the coconut ice and fudge recipes. I was unaware until now that Coconut condensed milk existed!
There is great range of recipes and there is a chapter specifically for the festive season. Thank you to Aimee Ryan, Net galley and White Lion Publishing for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
With contents such as Sunday Roast and Pub Grub, Aimee Ryan's book contains a wealth of occasionally easy recipes for the novice cooks out there providing a vegan alternative to traditional British food.
There are numerous sections such as the previously mentioned pub grub as well as breakfast, weeknight dinners and British bakes amongst many others.
Each recipe is easily explained and accompanied by numerous pictures and one thing that I always welcome in books such as this is that the vast majority of the ingredients are simple and easily obtainable.
A fantastic cookbook for those looking to replace meat or have already done so.
This cookbook is accessible for beginner to advanced cooks. The recipes are easy to follow and don’t require strange ingredients that a lot of vegan cookbooks ask of there audience.
The replacements of famous British dishes are creative and well thought out. Its a complete cookbook from breakfast to pub grub. It has a lot of alternatives to the meat version. And the pictures are beautiful.
I would recommend this book for people wo are starting there vegan journey or like to bring more plant base recipes in their menus.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
#netgally #GreatBritishVegan
My son is currently a vegetarian who has been thinking for a while about completely converting to a vegan diet.
After looking through and seeing delicious recipes one after the other, I quite fancied trying numerous recipes myself!
There is a handy store cupboards staples section and also a seasonal guide. I found this particularly useful to see exactly what fruit and vegetables are in season at various times of the year.
The photos throughout the book are colourful, vivid and make you want to try every meal. What I particularly like is that a colour photo is include for every recipe. For me personally this is super important as I am a very visually person and seeing what I should be aiming for with the end result really motivates me!
The recipes- Well as someone who currently follows a non vegan and non vegetarian diet, I must say that reading through this book has really encouraged me to consider having several non meat based meals each week.
Meanwhile my vegetarian adult son has already marked numerous recipes up to try as he begins his new vegan diet.
There is also a section with step by step instructions for how to make mayonnaise, pastry, icing etc.
The recipes are set out in a easy to follow, clear and concise way and I know this book will be well used in our home especially the mouth watering dessert section!
Thank you to the publisher Quarto Publishing Group-White Lion for sending me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A fantastic cookbook wiht some delicious recipes. I've tried two so far (the Shepherd's Pie and the Millionaire's Shortbread) and loved both.
Great whether you're looking to cut down on meat and dairy, or already follow a vegan diet.
Love the ease with which I can alter some of my favourites to suit many different dietary needs.
When it came to British cuisine all I knew were English Breakfast, the infamous Haggis and maybe a handful of other dishes, so I was really curious to learn more about the typical British cuisine and as a vegan, I was glad to get a cookbook full of vegan recipes.
The recipes variate from easy day-to-day recipes (using mostly simple ingredients) to festive meals for holidays — and yes, the book also includes recipes for English Breakfast and a plant-based version of Haggis and of course a vide rage of recipes for a typical Afternoon Tea.
I totally loved the variation of dishes, from Breakfast to ‘Pub Grub’ and sweets.
I also appreciate that the index is not only listed by names but also by ingredients.
A wonderful cookbook for new and old vegans and everybody who wants to learn more about what British people eat.
