Description
When architect-turned-cartoonist Gemma Gené first met her pet pug, Mochi, she felt as if time stopped. This dramatic moment and her adoring relationship with the rambunctious pug led her to begin chronicling her adventures with Mochi in a series of incredibly cute webcomics that have gained a social media following of half a million loyal readers.
The comics chronicle Mochi’s life from puppyhood to adulthood, featuring Mochi's unrequited dog friendships, his jealousy of his two dog-brothers, and his love of food. Readers and dog parents will love this humorous tale of a sincerely loyal friendship between one grumpy pug and his adoring owner.

This is so cute, witty and funny. I found many times picking out many and i mean many situations i have with my dog as well minding my dog is way bigger but he is one of the babies as well.
mochi is adorable and, as a dog owner, i can totally relate to every bit of this comic. the art is cute, the bits are funny and adorable and i almost cried a few times cause dogs are so great
Completely adorable and very relatable to every dog owner. The art style is so endearing and perfectly suits the sweet snippet-of-life storytelling.
Honestly just a quick and adorable read. It really shows how chaotic dogs can be as pets ahahaha. I read this in-between my online classes to pass the time and it was a good decision
Funny and sweet comics on being a dog parent.
I lost my one and only fur baby nearly a year ago, so this book was a nice way for me to relive some of our treasured memories. Living With Mochi is a book about daily life with a naughty pug named Mochi who loves his Mami more than anything, prefers human over other dogs, who knows he is a treasure but obnoxiously prefers Mami over Papi. It's simply a sweet comic collection which any dog parent will totally relate to.
My favorite thing about this book is that Mochi is spoiled rotten to a comedic effect, but he knows anything will be forgiven because humans love him so much,
*Thank you to the Publisher for a free advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review,
Living with Mochi is delightful! I was in love by the time I hit the front cover flap seeing Mochi proudly announce "this book is about me!" As a fur-baby mom myself, I instantly related to this comic. The illustrations are amazing. I was laughing out loud while reading this, I almost spit out my coffee. Thank you for allowing me to read this eARC, I will most definitely be buying a copy once published... make that a few copies to give to my friends too.
Adorable story about a lady and her pug. Super cute and funny! An absolute blast to read. The story is great and I definitely had a laugh. The artwork is cute too!
*Thanks Netgalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*
This comic was super cute and totally relatable. I identified with Mochi and his mami so much. Thanks so much for the opportunity to read and view this story.
I swallowed this book up in one sitting!
As a pug lover from afar, I immediately fell in love with Mochi as portrayed. The artist has his appearance down to a tee, and she has a great ability to convey movements and meanings without using words all the time; I even found myself imagining the accompanying sounds.
A book that anyone, young or old, can hugely enjoy.
(With thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley for this ebook in exchange for an honest review)
It's soooo cute and witty! I never had a chance to be a pawrent so I'm glad I'm able to live vicariously through this book. It's really funny, plus the adorable art makes it even more loveable. I'd definitely recommend this to dog lovers and anyone who's looking for a short but sweet read!
My 10 year old really loved this book. We don't have a dog, but I grew up with them. My daughter loves graphic novels and she thought this was really cute and really funny. And she loved it even more knowing that I don't like pugs. :) I have never liked pugs. So she thought it was even better for that.
Although we don't have dogs, I recognize the things Mochi did because of stories I have heard from friends and because some were similar to things my kids did. Cute and fun book.
Thank you so much to Net Galley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for a digital ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I loved this book! Mochi was so cute and his quirks and shenanigans reminded me of my own two dogs. There were so many scenes and lines in this book that made me laugh out loud. I also really liked the cartoons and thought the drawings were adorable. I think anyone with a dog would really enjoy and relate to this book!
As a new owner to a golden retriever puppy, this book was so relatable. From sleeping on your head, to an abundance of toys – my Meadow’s antics are very similar to that of Mochi. Like the narrator, my fiancé and I could not have a dog at our first apartment, and it wasn’t until we owned a house that we could fulfill his dream of getting a puppy. I’ve always adored pugs, but my fiancé finds them ugly – I hope showing him this book will change his mind! Meadow also enjoys belly rubs, food, and sleeping and very much dislikes being alone. I enjoyed the simple scenes that depict special moments between a dog and their owner – for example, just spending time gazing lovingly into one another eyes. Dogs truly have the ability to make you feel better after having a bad day. This book is a must-read for any dog-lover!
Such adorable book! I love the illustrations and the story itself.
I have a cute dog myself. Reading this book, just feel like me and my dog in it. So much fun! I love it!
This was adorable! I love their Instagram account so I knew I would love this and I was right. The art was adorable and I loved seeing more of Motchi. I also think so many dog owners can identify with this even if it is specifically about one dog. I definitely can't wait to add this one to my collection.
This is about a pug named Mochi and his adorableness! The illustrations are so cute and made the reading experience a lot more fun. I loved how these illustrations showed the personality of Mochi through different activities, separated by chapters.
Truly adorable! I am a cat person but love all animals and this was a great read for a good laugh. I’d definitely buy this for an animal lover especially the pug lover in my life. Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for the arc I received.
A pug lovers delight! Author Gemma Gene started sketching pictures of her pug Mochi on her daily commute and sharing as a web comic - 157ofgemma. This book brings her story with Mochi together and is really a love story between owner and beloved pet charting their time together from puppyhood to adulthood. I wondered if this might appeal to my daughter who loves dogs (she is almost 7). She loved the illustrations but at 200+ pages, it's probably aimed at slightly older readers and dog lovers. Beautifully presented and illustrated and packed full of humour.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC
Super cute! If you have a dog or a cat you’ll be able to see something of your pet’s cutest most endearing traits in these comics. I recommend for any dog (or cat ) lover!
Pros: The cover of this book caught my attention. The illustrations/graphics throughout are adorable. This book is heartwarming for pet owners as it perfectly encapsulates the relationship between pet and pet owner/parent. Another huge pro is that this is a happy animal book (animal books are so often sad)! I had no idea that Mochi is famous on Instagram until the end of the book, but I can see why!
Cons: None that I can think of--this book is precious. The star rating isn't a reflection on anything this book does--I just save higher star ratings for extra special books.
Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel publishing for the opportunity to read this book!
4/5 :)
READING THIS MAKES ME WANT A DOG EVEN MORE!!
Seriously so adorable. If I were a dog, I would definitely have the same personality as Mochi :)
This was such a funny, chill and cute read. And it’s a pretty fast read so you can read it anytime for entertainment! The art style was cute and fit really well with the story. I also really liked the different sections highlighting Life With Mochi. Highly recommend to those who surrender to cuteness. :)

This collection of web comics is for anyone who has ever fallen in love with a dog (or, I would argue, any other furry friend). Architect / cartoonist Gemma Gené chronicles her life with her beloved pug, Mochi in these pages, and I got my whole animal-loving life. It’s divided into sections such as food, family, friends, sleep, etc. and each section provides hilarious, relatable comics about never being alone, whether that’s in the bathroom, at bedtime, or just chillin’ on the couch.
I loved this collection so much. I finished it in one sitting and immediately wanted more. I have a couple of friends with a pug, and I could see him in many of these illustrations. The art is precious. I laughed a lot, and I had heart eyes for their love more than once.
This one’s not out until April, but if you enjoy web comics and pups, definitely check it out.
Gemma Gene is one of my favorite Instagram Accounts to follow. Mochi is a loveable pug designed after real life Mochi, Gemma's pug. I laughed constantly while reading this collection of comics. Long Live Mochi!
I don't read comics much anymore but the adorable cover art and the premise of life as a pet parent sucked me in. The book consists of a variety of one to two page comics on the life and times of the title character Mochi, an adorable tan pug, and his 'mami'. There's no plot line beyond this premise which is perfectly fine and works well with the format of short form comics.
Mochi is a small dog but pet parents of cats or any type of dog will be amused by his antics and the things his mami goes through to keep him happy. And we can certainly relate! This is an easy and amusing read that I finished in one sitting and is perfect to pick up and read a few pages any time you need a smile.
This was such a fun and adorable little read! As a dog owner myself I related to so many of the cartoon’s in this book, they reminded me so much of my own experiences with my dogs.
The book was slip up into different parts, and each part had a collection of comics corresponding to the topic it was focusing on. The coloured pages and illustrations at the start of each part were really endearing and served to give a more rounded profile about Mochi the pug which I enjoyed. The book was humorous and I enjoyed the voice that the author gave to Mochi. A very cute read overall!
This collection of comics on what it's like living with Mochi is adorable! I love dogs so much but I don't have one and this book made me want one even more. The art is great and I loved the various sections. The simplicity and relatability of these comics is what makes this book such a quick and enjoyable read. I also enjoyed that Mochi had a voice in some of these stories, which further emphasized his big personality and his owner's humor and character.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. Thank you NetGalley!
This was a quick & easy read.
It's a great "comic" about Mochi.
I'm sure most dog owners will find it very relatable.
I'd definitely purchase a copy and check out other books by the author.
Title: Living with Mochi
Author: Gemma Gene
Genre: Comic Collection
Pages: 228
Publication Date: 4/6/2021
This charming comic collection details the life of Mochi, a black rescue pug who lives with his Mami and Papi. The book is divided into multiple chapters like Love, Food and Sleep. Each chapter begins in color to give you an overview and then moves into black and white sketches. Each comic could stand alone but together gives you a good glimpse into Living with Mochi.
I found this comic collection to be delightful. As a dog owner myself, I could relate to so many of the comics. The book also does a beautiful job giving you a real feel for Mochi’s personality. The artwork in the comic is adorable and heartwarming. I particularly loved the comics in color at the beginning of each chapter.
I wish that the color section had been extended to all the comics. It was quite a drastic shift to go from these vivid comics to black and white. Some chapters had some colors in the comics throughout but there didn’t seem to be consistency.
There were a couple of gaps in the story. For example, there other dogs such as Violet that are included in the comics but we are not given their back story or who they belong to.
Overall, I would recommend this book to dog lovers, especially pug lovers. After a rough day, this comic collection put a big smile on my face and made me want to cuddle my dog.

Thank you for the e-arc NetGalley. Sweet, sweet little Mochi. This adorable book about one snuggly little pug was just was the doctor ordered. Mochi reminds me of one of sweet little fur babies who recently passed. He was always by my side and was a total Mamas boy. This book and its illustrations brought so many smiles and so much joy. Pick it up for yourself and prepare to squeee.
Having always been a dog lover this graphic novel was perfect. I have 2 VERY clingy dogs and so many of this rang true to my life. I even had my husband read this after I did and he agreed with so much of it. So cute! I definitely want to read more about Mochi!
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.
This book is so cute & relatable! As a pug lover (and dog owner), I really loved this comic with the stories it tells of dog ownership and the adventures of having a dog. The style of the comic is very simple, but clearly conveys the story! I follow @157ofgemma on Instagram so I was already familiar with Mochi, but he is just so lovable!
Thank you Gemma Gene, Andrews McMeel Publishing, and Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. #LivingWithMochi #NetGalley
This graphic novel shows illustrations of Mochi, the cutest little thing!!! Cartoons of what he does during the day and how much his family loves him, is primarily what the book is about. There are colorful pictures and black and white ones. Each one makes you want to squeeze this cute chubby thing!!! I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to start reading graphic novels or an older child that wants to learn about cartooning.
Great quick read for an instant smile on your face. Illustrations on the daily life of living with a needy, funny and super cute pug named Moshi. Eventhough I don't have a dog, just being a pet owner and a mom still made most of this so relatable. My favorite section was Struggles as I think everyone can find something in common with Moshi.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I really appreciate it!
This collection of web comics is definitely for anyone who wants to enjoy something sweet, fun and pure. I am a dog owner myself and I could relate to all of the comics and I found myself smiling throughout the whole book.
I was actually looking for something fun and quick to read and came across this collection of web comics and I can honestly say that I would read them again whenever I need a quick and fun read, which brightens your mood!
First of all, the drawings are nicely done and they just seem so pure and adorable.
The scenes were also really funny and you can easily relate to them if you are a dog lover. Yet, I actually would have preferred for the comic to be in color but this is just my personal preference.
Second, those little scenes were so relatable and funny. I loved the fact that the dog was able to talk and have a conversation with its owner and how their relationship was portrayed. There was so much humor and I really enjoyed those scenes!
Overall, I can really recommend this collection of web comics if you want a quick and fun read, are into dogs or animals in general. It was fun to read and I really enjoyed it! I will definitely read it again!
This was so adorably cute! I'm not a pug owner and am pretty solidly in the cat camp, but as someone who loves pet in general and has owned both dogs and cats in the past, this was wonderful. It perfectly illustrates pet and owner personalities and interactions. If you're a pet owner or love animals, you will likely enjoy these mostly single page comics about Mochi the pug and his humans. This is definitely a great read if you're looking for something to put a smile on your face.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
It was one of the cutest comic books about dogs. "Living With Mochi' shows how adorable and manic dogs can be in general. Mochi is such a chaos at times but that is shown from a humorous point of view since the owner spoils him so much. How the owner treats Mochi like a little baby is probably really relatable. It is a very quick and cute short read. If you are in need of cuteness overload, it is the perfect comic book.
What a cute graphic novel! I love the wave of books honouring cute pets that have come out, and this one was another great addition. I fell in love with Mochi's sass and cuteness. I had to laugh at his obvious great relationship with his mom.
Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Gemma Gené created a collection of illustrations of illustrations that describe her life with her pug Mochi, called Living With Mochi. Having recently gotten a pup myself, this was one of the most relatable graphic novels I've read. The little illustrations are SO ADORABLE (so it should be no surprise that I immediately started following Gemma and Mochi on Instagram, because I need more of those wholesome comics in my life). I don't say this often about books I review, but I really, really, really need a physical copy that I can proudly showcase on my bookshelf.
If you're a doglover and a fan of Sarah's Scribbles, I highly recommend buying this book! It's just so incredibly wholesome!

4/5
This was a super cute comic chronicle about the pug Mochi. I felt it was very relatable at times, and I can think of plenty of my dog-owner friends or dog lovers who would love to receive this cute book. The thing which made me laugh often was the fact that the pug knew he could get away with everything, since he was so loved. It just made my head shake with a smirk on my face.
The book is divided up into chapters, however I think that kinda made it a bit obvious for me how short the book was. I think that's my only downside. I know with these comic collections they tend to sometimes be a tad short, which is fine, but with the division in chapters it made it feel even shorter. However, it was not that annoying and I still loved it regardless. I think that's why it's a 4/5 and not a 5/5.
Thanks to Netgalley and Andrews McMeel for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Living with Mochi, out on April 6th, is a fun comic in which author and artist Gemma Gené shows her life with beloved dog Mochi.
Every dog and pet owner will enjoy this book, seeing in Mochi and his behaviour their own pet and reliving the joys and sometimes the struggles of life with a furry friend.
As this comic shows, pets are a big responsibility and can also be a challenge, but they certainly bring a lot of love, fun and joy into our lives.

⭐4-/5
A cute collection of webcomics, a little repetitive (there's one dog, and we all have those kinds of dog stories) but well told and organized. A great coffee table book.
This is a super adorable and hilarious little comic book. I love books like this because they make for a quick, relatable read that makes me laugh. Anybody who has a dog or another similar pet will definitely enjoy "experiencing" Mochi's shenanigans. The artwork is cute and lends itself well to this type of story telling. I'd definitely read more about Mochi's adventures!
This is a very sweet little book about the authors relationship with her pug, Mochi. As an animal and dog owner myself, many of the strips made me smile, and think *so and so does that too*
It was a lovely, nostalgic escape from the world, if only for a very short time.
As these type of books go, at 200+ pages I wasn't disappointed.
Thank you to Netgalley, who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased opinion.

This was so adorable! I have seen a couple of the Mochi comics online so I was super excited to see this book on Netgalley and swiped it up as fast as possible. It is just a bunch of super cute little one page day-in-the-life of the most spoiled little pug ever. If you are looking for a super quick happy little pick me up this is the one to try.
This was a delightful read that I would highly recommend. Any pet parent would easily relate and enjoy this graphic novel.
Such cute art!
Mochi does not like being on a diet and nether do I. Very relatable dog. This is such a cute book! I love the art style, and honestly I relate to every panel. Mochi reminds me of my cats so much, I guess all animal lovers are doomed to never be able to sleep without our pets sitting on our heads!
From the perspective of someone who teaches English as a second language, this is a great book to recommend to learners. A very universal concept, fairly simple language in an easy to read typeface, lots of visual cues, and good practice for things like prepositions etc.
This book was so much fun! Mochi is a riot and his family's struggles with him are so relatable. The art style is simple but cute and it conveyed the story perfectly. I really enjoyed this story.
I don't have a dog, but I do have two cats, and I could relate to many of these Mochi situations.
Cute, lovable drawings about life as a pet owner, this book would be enjoyed by many animal lovers, primarily those who share their houses with them.
Was this one of the few good things that touched my life this week? Yes,
Do I plan on ordering a copy for my pug-loving friend? Yes,
This book is incredibly relatable to most pet owners, Reading this while I was away from home made me homesick to be with them in all honesty read with fur friends present to enjoy to fullest extent.
If you like cute, funny, relatable comics about being a pet parent, this comic will meet and excede those needs.
There is a particular comic where Mochi is trying to convince a sitter that they eat strictly human food and it gave me flashback to my cats carrying whole loaves of bread and freshly backed biscuits away to be eatten in secret. But when you actually try to go to the effort of making them something nice they stick their noses up at you.
Thank you to the piublisher for giving me a free copy in exchange for an honest review!
I absolutely loved this! Not only is the art style so so cute, it also was such a light story to read.
We follow the adoption of Mochi and his stories with his owners and the areas around him and let me tell you that it was just so adorable, I love how the dog is called Mochi, I think that's such a cute name for a dog and if I had to name my dog it would probably be that too haha. I loved the art style it was so clean and fun to read and everything was clear from beginning to end,
I would like to read more from this author in the future and I definitely recommend reading this comic and I hope more people get to enjoy it
This book is perfect for everyone who is in love with Gemma's instagram page. Definitely going to get my hands on it once it comes out. It was hilarious and heart warming, perfect for comic book and dog lovers, or for fans of comics such as Cat's Café and Catana Comics!
This was such a cute graphic novel about living with a pug. Mochi was such a fun character with lots of personality, as I’m sure lots of pugs have, While I’ve never had a pug, I got the impression that the author really captured what having and living with a pug is like. I have taken care of dogs before, and definitely found parts of the book very relatable.
The art style worked well for the story, though I usually like a less simplistic art style, I think for a simple story about a dog, it worked pretty well! I’m glad that I read this cute and quick story.
Okay, Mochi is my spirit animal. I am also to short to reach anything, dream of tacos and have issues finding cute clothes that fit right. Haha.
Sarcastic, funny, quick read. I really enjoyed it.
*Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the gifted copy which I voluntarily read and am reviewing*

Living With Mochi
by Gemma Gené
Andrews McMeel Publishing
This humorous comic book is sure to please dog owners especially if they know a pug. It's relatable to any dog but pugs especially. It tells the life of Mochi from his likes, dislikes, food , sleep patterns, his family, his struggles, and so much more! The delightful art is clever and witty that made me smile just by looking at them! Add the text and it really won my heart! Mochi is a fat, lazy dog that is a nicer canine version of Garfield! (But much cutier!)
I want to thank the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read this fun book!
This book was wonderful - and so accurate. On almost every page, I said "That is exactly what happens with my puppies!" Adorable and very well done - I am getting gift copies for all my fellow pug owners.
The art in this is sooo cute! The stories are the stuff of dog owners' nightmares and dreams. I'm not a huge dog person but I enjoyed this book and the adventures of Mochi.
This was pure serotonin in comic format. I absolutely adore mochi and the art style! It's also very relatable, since all dogs have a little bit of mochi in them.
I loved how it was formatted in chapters and how each focused on different parts of mochi's life. I highly recommend this comic if you're in the mood for something sweet and quick to read!
thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Everything about this book is so cute! The art style, the story, Mochi, everything!! Absolutely adorable!
Living With Mochi is an adorable comic about a dog and his relationship with his owner.
It’s quick and easy to read, and it is perfect for a break from reality. There’s no deeper story, it’s just small comics, so therefore it’s great if you need to forget about the bad things in life for some time and focus on a cute dog.
The story is very personal, which made it harder to relate to. I don’t know any of the people in the story, but it is still cute to read about their relationship with Mochi.
The art style is very cute and fits the comic well.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Is this like most Life with [insert pet's name] book? Yep. Did I love it? Yup. Do I want more? Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup...

Thanks to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing an eARC of this comic compilation in exchange for an honest review.
Living with Mochi is Mochi the Pug's adorable journey from puppyhood to adulthood with his loving human parents, based on Gemma's real life pug. The illustrations remind me a little of a more polished and stylized version of Simon's Cat with some Garfield influence and they are all lovely with this greyscale watercolor effect.
One thing that really struck me is how much Mochi really seems like a pug which reflects how much Gemma loves her puppy. There are so many unique puggish mannerisms that reminded me of my own pug, Phoebe. They really have a larger than life personality and Mochi is no exception.
This really is a love letter to not just pugs but dogs everywhere. Dog lovers and pug owners alike will find their little furry companions in Mochi and it'd be a perfect gift for anyone with a similar furbaby. I really enjoyed it!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read and review.
Hahah - this book is so so so funny! If you've ever had a dog that truly believes it is a human you need to read this book. Although it has been years since I've had a fur baby, this was so relatable. Mochi really is a baby; not a puppy.
I was granted eARC access to Living With Mochi by Gemma Gené through the publisher Andrews McMeel Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. My thoughts are my own and my review is honest.
Living with Mochi is a collection of comics about Mochi the pug and the life of a pet owner presented in a roughly chronological order (getting Mochi comes first, etc.) and it's absolutely hilarious! Every pet parent knows the woes of convincing their pet to accept the type/amount of food they're given, and every pet parent has experienced either too much or too little affection from said pet at different times. These little comics with Mochi illustrate those joys with honest humour and beautifully simplistic drawings that will warm any animal lover's heart.
You may already know about Mochi and his talented human Gemma through their various online presences and absolutely adorable merch, but this is your chance to get a whole lot of pure Mochi stories all in one offline place. I highly recommend this to both Mochi's fans and all pet/animal lovers alike.
Living With Mochi is a comic about a dog and his relationship with his owner. It’s quick to read and is absolutely hilarious! I 100% fell in love with Mochi.
Adorable comic about the joys and trials of living with a pet. Mochi is a pug who rules his house. I can relate, I have a cat that rules mine.
Good for pet owners and animal lovers.
Living with Mochi chronicles the day to day life of Mochi and his Mami. Mochi is an adorable, slightly overweight, not-at-all lazy (cough) fawn pug. The comics are so sweet and relatable--I don't have a pug, but I do have a smaller dog, and could relate to most of the comics--the begging for human food, the sleeping in positions that seemingly are designed to make it as uncomfortable as possible for humans, and holy cow, the boundaries chapter! Gemma could have been writing about my dog instead of hers.
This book is a must read for anyone who loves pugs, and really dog lovers in general. Mochi is adorable and his antics are hilarious.
Living With Mochi was an absolutely adorable read. As someone with three dogs, I could strongly relate to having pets with Mochi's big personality (and lack of boundaries...). The art style was cute and simple and worked very well for the humorous and lighthearted tone throughout the book, and I loved how the book was split up.
I would have liked to see an 'End' chapter to parallel the 'Beginning' chapter, as the book felt like it ended slightly abruptly. Other than that, the book was very cute and perfect for pet owners with dogs who are convinced they're human or really anyone who adores dogs and pugs!
This is such an adorable comic collection. The art is adorable and I love Mochi's characterization. I recommend to any pet parent.
I requested this comic without knowing anything about it just that it was about dogs and that was more than enough for me. My dog is the best thing in my life so reading a comic book about what it is like to have a dog was the formula for success in my opinion.
In Living with Mochi, Gemma Gene celebrates fur-parenthood and the extreme love you experience when you look into your dog’s eyes.
This comic book is easy to read, I read it in less than 1 hour and still it became one of my favorite books. Living with Mochi is a nearly perfect representation of what is it like to be a dog owner and treating your dog like your child. I had to show my mom almost all of the scenarios the author depicted because I truly felt represented.
Living with Mochi made me laugh out loud several times, Gemma Gene managed to perfectly describe what we think goes on in our dog´s head and all of the scenarios were things I could picture my fog doing without a doubt.
I have every intention on reading everything that the author comes out with and as soon as this comic book is released I am going to get myself a copy. Truly an outstanding read and a story that will make your heart warm.
Overall Living with Mochi is a fast, fun, cute and realistic comic book about what it is like to be a dog owner. I truly recommend this book if you are looking for a fun story, cute drawing and an overall good laugh.
I have followed Gemma on Instagram for a while and always love her comic style posts about her adorable Pug Mochi.
This book encapsulates everything that makes her Instagram so fun to read. Mochi is drawn in the most adorable way, and every little story details the super special bond between a dog and its owner.
Maybe I am biased as a fellow Pug owner, but i always find her stories so relatable and pure.
If you are looking for a great book to flip through to warm your heart this is the book for you.
Publisher's blurb: The comics chronicle Mochi’s life from puppyhood to adulthood, featuring Mochi's unrequited dog friendships, his jealousy of his two dog-brothers, and his love of food. Readers and dog parents will love this humorous tale of a sincerely loyal friendship between one grumpy pug and his adoring owner.
Absolutely adorable! Makes me want to go out and buy a pug just so I can name him Mochi. You don't have to be a dog lover to relate to Gene's life with Mochi, all fur parents can relate to how they take over our lives and we wouldn't have it any other way.
I really enjoyed this and even laughed out loud at some of Mochi's antics and even recognized my cats in a few.
Recommend, especially for these days where smiles can be hard to find.
Thanks to @NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the free copy in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion
WOW! This is just like it was written about my life with my own dogs.
This is a collection of web comics. The graphics were cute! Some were in black and white while others were colorful. I liked how she mixed the b&w and color throughout. It is about her life with her dog. As I mentioned previously, I could relate to most of the comics. I laughed so much. I loved how the dog is a character too. You could actually see what he was thinking as well.
I will be recommending this book for a long time. If you want a cute, quick, and funny book- this is the book for you.
<i>Thank you to Netgalley for an e-ARC copy of this book.</i>
I am a fan of the comic so, of course, I had to read the book! I had a horrible day and picked this up as it was bound to bring a smile to my face. And it did. I loved reading Mochi being adorable along with the humans and relaxing with the book. It's also a quick read but yet you could set it down and come back to it if you wanted to as well. It's a must-buy for those who love pugs and/or dogs in general.
Living With Mochi would make the perfect gift for any pug lover, dog lover, or just plain pet lover around. Inside we find quick little moments into the daily life of Mochi the pug who loves his mom more than anything and has tons of cute quirks. This is a fast read that will make anyone who enjoys animals smile. Looking forward to more adventures with Mochi!
Thank you to Net Galley for this ARC.
Fun story about life with a pug.
Fast, easy and funny read that has some entertaining aspects.
Overall, a cute read that will make you smile.
Thank you to NetGallery, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own.
This was so dang adorable! My dog and I could relate to so many things! There were various moments that I caught myself smiling like a lunatic and a few even got a surprised chuckle out of me. The art style is simple and clean. I would have loved it even more if everything had been in full color. Overall, this passed the time quite nicely and I'd recommend it to anyone who loves dogs.
An adorable little book about life with a precocious little pup. I found it very relatable as a dog owner and had several moments where I exclaimed "my dog does that!". I would recommend this to all dog lovers of all ages
Another book of comics about the life of a pet owner, and honestly I'll never get tired of these books. This is the story of Gemma and her pug Mochi. There are some coloured pages (which I liked more) but the majority is black and white. The art style isn't my favourite, but the story and comics themselves of Mochi, who prefers his mom Gemma over her dad and his adorable personality, made it an enjoyable and breezy, fun read.
I thank Netgalley and Andrews McMeel publishing for the digital ARC.
Living With Mochi is a very refreshing take on the day-to-day style of graphic novels. Each part is clearly defined but still ties in well with the others, and the little stories themselves are told quite well through the illustrations.
The art is adorable and easy to interpret. I love Mochi’s sass and personality that’s heavily expressed throughout the novel. There were many stories or ideas I hadn’t seen expressed in other graphic novels. It is nice to read something different and unexpected.
Thanks to Netgalley for this adorable ARC!
Did I mention this was adorable? Perfect for dog lovers, love the illustrations, just an all-around winner.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this book in exchange for an honest review.
Graphic novels about pets, especially dogs, are always enjoyable. I especially liked the chapter on "boundaries". Most of this book is in black and white while toward the end it's in color. I think it would've been cuter with the whole book being in color.
Cute, relatable, fun read for anyone who loves their furbabies.
This was a cute and relatable collection of comics about Mochi the pug. As a dog mom, I can relate to a lot of these and had a good chuckle at Mochi's antics. I enjoyed how much of Mochi's personality came across each time he appeared on the page. Because this is a collection of short comics, there wasn't much of a storyline and some of the themes did get a bit repetitive. I think this would more enjoyable to flip through this in small pockets of time than to read it all at once.
Review: A relatable story created with graphic illustrations that every pet parent can relate to. Chapter topics range from sleeping habits to food preferences to family (and friend) interactions. Mochi is a sassy pug with opinions on everything.
Note: I received a free copy of this ebook from the publisher via NetGalley. My review is my own.
Mochi the half-cat pug loves nothing as much as food and sleeping. He is just so cute and loveable! These comics really did make me smile.
Rating: 4/5 stars.
“Living With Mochi” is an adorable collection of comics featuring the author’s pet dog and their friends. I thoroughly enjoyed the mixture of graphics presented, from funny and comical plights, to heart-felt and emotional stories. I only wish that it touched on some more universal themes, as some of the jokes and anecdotes were hard to relate to as I am not a dog owner myself. With that in mind, I highly recommend this book for dog and animal lovers, especially those who have a special pup in their lives.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book on NetGalley and have provided an honest review.*
This is adorable. Mochi is such a fun comic to follow and he seems like such a good boy. It's so fun to see so many comics about him all in one collection.
These comics are funny, sweet, and full of heart. I recommend this for every dog lover out there.
This is a super cute graphic novel that embodies what it is to be a pet owner and they are all soo relatable! As a lover of animals I just enjoyed it so much! I loved the art and the stories are completely endearing! This was a perfect pick me up and exactly what I needed to read, just feel good wholesomeness! Highly recommend to all the pet owners of the world.
Very cute, very fluffy, very relatable to anyone with pets! The art style is simple, and so are the comics; there's not really a joke or a point beyond, "look at my dog!" Still, it's a cute little slice-of-life-with-dogs compilation, and while I'd probably rather see these kind of comics occasionally as I scroll through Instagram rather than read a whole book of them, I think this book would be great for people who really love their dogs, or dogs in general. Very sweet!
Arc received from Netgalley for an honest review
This was a very cute and simple graphic novel that I enjoyed.
The art style is nice and I loved reading about Mochi. Not only is the name perfect for a pug, but how can anyone not love his face?
That being said I probably would have enjoyed it more of Mochi didn't speak. This is a personal criticism and I'm sure most people wouldn't mind, but I found silent panels to be more enjoyable since it felt more realistic to me.
Some of the slides reminded me of my old dog, and since I love pugs so much it brought me joy to read about Mochi. I think many people would pick this up and enjoy the happiness of this little pup and his lovely personality.
Free ARC from Netgalley.
This book is about life with the pug Mochi. He loves to sleep. And eat. And sleep. And eat. And sleep. And his owner. Not other dogs.
This is a fur-parents memoir made into a webcomic now made into a book.
It's like reading about having a cat really, other than going for walks. But it's really relatable. And cute. So cute! And since it's a comic, it's read so fast. No reason not to read this one!
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for honest feedback. I thought that this book was adorable! I was often smiling at the antics of Mochi. Anyone who has known the love for a cute companion pet knows what it's like to go through the day with a great addition to your life. So, why not transfer this blessing into the graphic art form? This book is a cute homage to a beloved pet and probably would make a cute gift for pug / dog lovers.
PS - my favorite page was the one where Mochi was dreaming of tacos. Too right.
A main reason I love this book with all my heart is the fact that I also want a pug in the future. So seeing these cute drawings of someone else’s pug made me super envious but also all happy because they’re so cute. But onto the actual book.
We follow Mochi and his owner Gemma is what he’s been like since she first got him. I love how the chapters are broken up, and they don’t last long. This is an extremely quick read since the comics are very short so you’re not exactly spending hours reading. And the comics are just cutely drawn and extremely funny. I just love how she accurately portrays how clingy Mochi is with wanting to be in the same room as her at all times. He’s just such a sweet boy who loves his mom only.
There isn’t much to say without giving away a lot of the moments which I think you should experience yourself. It’s just a nice, sweet, funny, fluffy read. Especially if you’re a dog lover, or more importantly a pug lover pick this one up now!
This was so cute omg!! I've always wanted a dog, but my parents never let me, so we have a cat instead. Even though I'm a cat owner, some situations are so relatable. For example them sleeping all day and everywhere where you are. Always being hungry.. I definitely LOL'ed at some pages hahah.
I really liked this comic full of day to day life situations and the perks of being a dog owner. Would really recommend!
Thanks to the author and publisher for giving me a free copy in exchange for an honest review!
I've never had a life with a pug, but I have known several pugs and pug-people. And a lot of these ring true for what I've seen from them and from their stories. 🤣 Some of these comics are definitely pug-specific quirks, though a lot are also universal-dog-owner moments. Honestly I picked this up because I haven't had a pet dog since I was a child and I am finally, FINALLY about to be able to have one again soon. I was hoping desperately for a reminder/primer/preview of what I can look forward to (and brace myself for). This definitely fulfills all those boxes.
The simple art and layout is perfect for highlighting the messages and emotions. You might have three panels where only minor details change, and that ends up being exactly the right way to tell the story. Mochi is as cute as his namesake. ^.^
One style issue I had with this was that the font was sometimes very hard to read. It seemed to be too thin in places, and pieces of letters would be missing. I could make out what it said, but sometimes it did take a moment and interrupted the flow of the experience a little bit. I had a digital copy, so hopefully it's only an issue with that, and not something that will persist in the published copies!
Thanks to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel for a free advanced copy in exchange for an honest review!
This is an adorable short book of webcomics about Gemma and her pug Mochi, with a supporting cast of her husband and their families. I'm a big-dog person myself, but this was still very relatable. I laughed out loud at a few of the situations. This would be a great gift for someone who loves pugs or similar tempered small dogs.
This is a cute bunch of comics about Mochi, fun and light-hearted reading. Recommended for comic lovers of all ages.
"Living with Mochi" is a cute comic collection that shows what it's like to live with Mochi, a fawn-colored, lazy, food-obsessed pug. Dog owners--especially millennial dog owners--will find themselves laughing along with Mochi's antics and how much his Mami and Papi spoil him.
Gemma Gene's drawings are charming and full of heart, and the love she shares with Mochi is visible in each line. Even the comics that deal with the more difficult aspects of dog ownership--deadly farts, vomit, and other bodily functions--serve as a reminder that our animal companions often make us better people not only for the benefit of our pets, but for other people around us, too. Gene's book is a testament to the human-dog bond, and a love letter to dogs everywhere.
This book will make a perfect gift for any dog owner, and fans of other relatable, feel-good comics like Sarah Scribbles and Hyperbole and a Half will eat this up like Mochi scarfing down treats!
This was a very cute and quick graphic novel. Very relatable for anyone with a pet who thinks they are people.
This is an adorable collection that anyone who has ever loved a dog will appreciate. It’s sweet and pure and the kind of break from things most of us can use right now. I look forward to more from the author!
Thanks to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the digital copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a cute, funny and entertaining little book. It is a very fast read, considering is all comics. Even though Mochi is a pug, it is easy to relate to him in some cases and if you have a dog you definitely will relate to most of the situation shown here.
The art is great and not all pages are black and white. If you are looking for a quick, light and fun read, make sure to give this book a try.
Mochi is adorable and so predictable. If you love dogs and think they have a way of talking to you, then Living with Mochi is a fun read for you. This graphic novel is funny with perfect illustrations to portray Mochi’s expressions.
LIVING WITH MOCHI is the perfect book for the dog lover in your life. Gemma Gene's graphic novel is a tribute to her four legged partner in crime, an adorable pug named Mochi.
Definitely giggled more than once, and was definitely reminded of the different dogs in my life in different ways. Think Mochi's food obsessions were definitely my favorite.
I adored this graphic novel! As a fellow pug mom I found myself laughing out loud at the relatability between the cute illustrations and my actual life. It was perfect length and would be great for reader (and pug lovers) of any age. Will be adding this to my collection ASAP!
Very cute comic about daily life with the author's dog. I found this comic entertaining and a quick read.
This is an absolutely delightful account of living with a cute pug called Mochi.
The illustrations were on point and I was left with a very warm feeling after completing this. Hilarious, relatable and heart warming! I would recommend thist to anyone who wants to smile and bust out the awws at the end of a long day.
LIVING WITH MOCHI is so gosh-darn cute!! I always thought my pup was the only one paralyzed by leaves on his feet, so I'm glad to know he's not alone. Please read if you want feel-good, giggly, cute comics of bug-eyed and sometimes stinky doggies.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC copy of this book.
Read and reviewed by seven-year-old Amy.
‘Living with Mochi’ is a very funny book. The main character, Mochi, loves Mami. Mochi is a dog but can speak. This book is a graphic novel, but it’s not too lengthy. I learned that sometimes pet dogs can be a little chaotic and difficult to manage, but at the same time it is fun to have a pet like Mochi.
This book is full of graphic illustrations, which will grab younger readers’ attention. The cover is also very attractive.
I recommend this book to children five years and above.
I give this book 5/5 stars as Mochi is a fun read!!
This is exactly the feel good graphic novel we all need in our lives right now.
Gemma Gene’s comic about her pug Mochi. Living with Mochi spans his puppyhood, his relationships with other dogs and humans, the bond he has with Gene, as well as his adoration for food. Mochi’s personality is larger than life, giving this graphic novel wonderful humor and spunk.
I really could see my in the pages of this graphic novel. I have three dogs, two of them pugs, one of which has a similar temperament to Mochi. I have been enjoying reading graphic novels lately in my reading slump and this piece did not disappoint. There is incredible warmth in the relationship between pet and owner, which Gene did an excellent job of translating to the page. I am also always happy when webcomic writers publish in print because it brings their work to a wider audience.
Gene’s illustration style and color palette are simple but with a certain amount of detail. She uses blues and greys which allow Mochi to stand out on the page with his fawn coloring. The lettering is bubbly and complimentary to Gene’s artistry.
I would recommend this book to anyone that needs a pick me up, enjoys a laugh, or simply loves a dog.
Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this ebook.
So stinkin' adorable!!! Truly a love story between a human and her pug told in the form of humorous comics. It makes me want to adopt a puppy of my own even more!
As a dog parent myself, this graphic novel resonated with me a lot!
Although my doggo, now 1,5-year-old, is bigger than a pig I still carry him as when he was a little puppy!
Thank you Netgalley for this graphic novel, it was super cute and heart warming!
Living with Mochi is a cute complication of comics about the author's life with her pug, Mochi. If you have a friendly and loving dog, you will definitely relate to these stories and want to hug your adorable fur child. I immediately wanted my partner to read it so we could discuss just how many of the stories we experience everyday with our two sheepadoodles.
I am generally not a fan of pugs (I know, I know), but I think the art style lent itself well to making an ugly breed of dog adorable. In generally, I really enjoyed the art. My only critique is that I wish it all would have been in color instead of just a few of the pages, but that is simply my personal preference.
Overall, I enjoyed this graphic novel and will be recommending it to some friends and likely buying a copy for myself.
I have been waiting for the English translation of this book for years and I’m happy it’s finally available! I first encountered these comics about Mochi and his mami Gemma 3 years ago and have been following their adventures since.
Mochi the pug loves food, sleep, Mami, and his best dog friend Ben, not necessarily in that order. Old and new readers alike will relate to Mochi’s love of food and Gemma’s love for her dog.
It was fun to return to these chronicles of their life on social media @157ofgemma with this collection. I would love it if there was a follow-up book including Mochi’s younger “siblings”, Twinchis (twin chihuahuas) Duey and Huey. Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the advance reader (e)copy!
Such a wonderful and wholesome book! Living with Mochi accurately sums up a person's love of their dog, and was enjoyable from start to end.
I really wish there were more because I loved seeing all of Mochi's adventures.
This was a short and quick comic about the author’s life living with her little pug Mochi where she’s given Mochi an actual voice that she interacts with throughout the panels. There were many things that were easy to relate to whether you have a dog or a cat. Any pet owner who absolutely loves and adores their pet(s) will find something to relate to and laugh at.
Received via Netgalley
Absolutely adorable!! I love that so many Instagram cartoonists are getting their comics published in book format. I had seen the Mochi comics before but I wasn't following the Instagram account (I have since corrected this wrong). The book follows the life of a little pug, Mochi, with a big personality. The comics are very cutely written and reminded me of my own dog, Abby, who never quite believed she was a dog. It covers everything from sleep habits to walks to favorite foods to making friends. Any dog lover will absolutely connect with and adore this book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Delightful comic book (graphic novel) of the adventures of Mochi. She is a dramatic fur baby, pug who lives with her Mami and Peli. The cartoon drawings are simple and so relatable to anyone with an attention demanding pet. Around 225 pages it can be read and enjoyed quickly. I will look for other adventures with Mochi and her family. Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for a temporary ARC ebook in exchange for an honest review.
Living with Mochi // Gemma Gene
I don't read comics often but I'm so glad I got my hands on this one. We own cats and dogs as well and foster both regularly so we tend to have plenty of funny moments in our house ourselves but it was still so entertaining to read through this book. The author captured the humor of owning pets so well and I really enjoyed the simplistic style throughout. I read it as an ebook so I don't know what size the print book will be but this would make a great coffee table book!
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
‘Anything can be food with the right attitude”
Mochi
I have been following the artist on Instagram for a long time and I really adore her comics. When I saw this book is available for review, saying I was elated would be an understatement.
The thing I love about this book is the relationship between Mochi and Her. He is literally her baby and they both love each other so much. It reminds me of my childhood pup whom I loved more than anything.
I got to know the story of Mochi from the beginning, and he is a cutie pie. The art is really beautiful. I loved reading this book. Completely unrelated to the review, but whenever I see a pug now, it reminds me of mochi, haha.
New to this cartoonist, I instantly looked up her ig handle and, of course, the real live Mochi. And much like this book I was not disappointed.
Gemma absolutely nails the pet parent life. From easy forgiveness to judgey side eyes, there's something for everyone to relate to. But, even without pets of one's own, Mochi is such a character in of himself that the humor is apparent and real. Combined with the sheer amount of love exuded in all aspects of this collection, Living with Mochi becomes such an enjoyable and lighthearted read.
Additionally, the added content and colored pages are such a bonus treat. I can't wait to see more of this artist (and of course Mochi) in the future as they have both gotten a new fan out of me!
Living With Mochi is a very cutely illustrated graphic comic book that is about the purest love between Mochi, a sweet little pug dog, and his loving owner Gemma, her husband Peli and her family. It was such a delightful page turner to read through all the day to day antics and fun little things that Mochi goes through in his life. The pictures made it so fun to read and I was chuckling many times as it went along. I am a dog lover and have had the blessing of owning several dogs in my life, so it was satisfying to relate to many of the things that Mochi did. I loved this book and highly recommend it to all dog and animal lovers!
I would like to thank #NetGalley, the author, Gemma Gene, and Andrew's McNeely Publishing, for my eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
3.5/5
Perfect for any of your pug/dog-loving friends! The book's author is well-known online (as 157ofgemma on instagram) for her humorous comics about her pug, and Living with Mochi brings them together in a collection documenting the highs and lows of this pug's life, bringing you those lovely, fuzzy and funny feels
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an eARC
Super cute! I wans a mochi now. I wasn't expecting much from this, but I actually laughed out loud so many times. The art is super cute, almost reminded me a little of Garfield. I can totally believe what happened in this graphic novel. I have pet envy now, and I want one!
I actually really liked this book! The art style, as well as storytelling, are adorable and it was also super funny. This book was a super fun light read and it definitely makes you want to run to the nearest pet shop and grab the first pug you see.
Living With Mochi is the latest adorable addition to Gmma Gene's publications. If you love animals, especially quirky little pugs like Mochi, then this is the graphic novel for you.
Living With Mochi is full of illustrations (created by the one and only Gemma Gene) that will feel amazingly familiar for many pet parents. Who hasn't coddled their pet, put up with their whims, and overall put their happiness above their own?
The vignettes that Gemma Gene captured here are so beautiful. They're also hilarious in ways that are well-suited to a pug named Mochi. On more than one occasion, I burst out laughing or found myself sagely nodding along with decisions made.
Gemma Gene's artwork is perfect for these slice-of-life comics. They're quirky in every way that Mochi is, and that cannot be stated enough. While the overall concept of many of these comics had me laughing, it was the execution of it all that had me roaring with laughter.
This may be the story of a very personable pet, but it is also a very human story. We all crave connections, and that is something portrayed so beautifully within these pages. Though I'm probably a little bit biased here, being a crazy cat lady, erm, animal lover. It's one of the many reasons why I will always jump at the chance to read anything created by Gemma Gene. She just gets me.
Thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing and #NetGalley for making this book available for review. All opinions expressed are my own.
This book is so cute! I don’t have a dog, nor do I even love dogs, but this book made me love Mochi!
The illustrations are simple, and so so cute. It’s a quick read, and really enjoyable! It makes me want a dog, lol
No matter if you have a dog or not, you’ll like this book. It’s relatable, and adorable!
first, I don't even like pugs but this book was hilarious and the doggy was adorable and full of character.
I can tell that Gemma has a very good sense of humor and I will definitely keep a lookout for her other works.
I'm so glad I requested this book on netgalley. It was so light and fun to read, so heart warming, I just wish it had more and more pages. 😂 I'll definitely start following the author's work from now on.
Living with Mochi is really one of the cutest little comic collection I ever read. This is the perfect book for ever pug lover and has such a sweet, light-hearted sense of humour. Really brightened my day a bit.
Such a quick and fun read. This reminded me a lot of my childhood family dog - a little Maltese Shitzu with a big attitude. The artwork was fun and simplistic and I loved seeing all the stories Mochi, his Mami, Papi and friends went on. Very slice-of-life and uplifting. Definitely recommend if you’re feeling down, this graphic novel will surely brighten your day.
3.5/5 start
This was an adorable and very relatable little comic. Gemma completely nails the life of a pet parent, which is something that's amusing to witness whether or not you have animals of your own. We see all of the laugh-out-loud moments, all the moments full of love, and even the disgusting moments we cringe away from, which were somehow hysterical when acted out an adorably illustrated pug. The art style is cute, and coupled with Gemma's sense of humor it makes for a very enjoyable reading experience.
It’s a great graphic novel! So funny, so well drawn and so life-like. That cute dog win my heart. It’s perfect for children as well as for adults.
Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing me with an ARC of Living with Mochi in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
The Gist
I wanted to make my way through the ever-growing to-read list I have waiting for me on NetGalley on a regular basis…so much for that, since I’m about 9 books behind my reading goal and it is only March. Lol
Anyway, as I was scrolling through the list, I came across Living with Mochi and thought this might be cute.
I have been in a funky mood for a while and reading funny little stories about a fluffy butt with personality might just do the trick.
The Details
Living with Mochi was absolutely delightful! The sketches, the stories, the dog’s personality. They all put a smile on my face and reminded me of my own little fluffy butt.
We used to have a pet rabbit, but, honestly, there isn’t much difference between a spoiled little pug and a spoiled bunny with floppy ears.
The more I think about it, the more I’m convinced that all fur babies have come to a universal agreement to make their human parents as smitten with them as possible.
As I said, the stories were delightful, and I could see so much of ourselves in those every-day adventures.
The sketches were very well done and the speech bubbles absolutely hilarious.
The Verdict
Overall, Living with Mochi put a smile on my face and make me miss my own fluffy butt so very much. It was comforting to read and gave me the small break from life’s chores for just a little while. I wish this could have been longer.
It would definitely recommend it.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC in exchange for a honest review.
I REALLY LOVED IT ♡
I have two dogs and I felt really identified with this mini-comics because my dogs are very similar with Mochi.
I think Gemma represented very well what is living with dogs.
Every scene is so funny and cute. And I like the fact that Mochi has it's own dialogues. It's something I always liked about this comics.
I follow the author on Instagram and I have to say that Gemma is a very talented woman. I love her work.
This compilation of comics is now a very beautiful book about a very lovely dog.
So recommend.

.
🌼 I loved the book. Everything about the book was so adorable. The illustrations and Mochi have my heart now. I was remembering my pet the whole time and even a thought of writing a similar kind of book crossed my mind😅
🌼 It was pleasure reading a whole length book filled with cuteness and fun. The coloured illustrations were so beautiful and the black and white ones were also good.
🌼 I feel everyone can read this book. It's so much fun❤
Ok, that was just way too much fun. There is no doubt that Gemma Gene know pet ownership. Mochi has a life on the web, but there is something about reading a full collection that is just luscious and indulgent. Hopefully there will be many more to come.
Thank you to Gemma Gene, Andrews McMeel Publishing, and NetGalley for an Advance Reader Copy in exchange for an honest review.
Mochi is a dog who has so much sass and fun in one little creature. Of course, this lovely being needed their own comic book! Muchi is a pug (because of course he is), and he has the best facial expressions for a dog in a comic book. I love it. He's adorable, he's cute and he vomits when he's anxious (come on guys, life is tough sometimes - my one cat still does this).
The owner's reactions to getting a new dog were exactly how I was with getting all of my animals. It's an exciting time and it's thrilling! For years you beg and get excited and hope... and then one day you get that ball of sunshine! It's relatable and also completely adorable. Don't we all want a pet like Mochi? Who's always there being a ray of goofy sunshine?
I love this collection, I can't lie! It's sugary sweet, positively awesome and so much fun.
Five out of five stars. I want more!
Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.
What a delightful read this book was.
"Living with Mochi" is an account of having Mochi as a member of the family in a cool comic style.
It was so much fun to read and the experiences felt so heartwarming.
I would suggest this book to every dog-lover out there. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.
I received this ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.
This was absolutely adorable! I had a roommate who had 2 pug mixes (a chihuahua pug and a beagle pug) and this is EXACTLY what living with pug looks like!!!!
This book brought me back to living with these adorable dogs that I love and miss so much! This was so much fun and easy to read... I want more adventures with Mochi!
This book was sent to me as an ARC on NetGalley. However all opinions are of my own/
This book was an easy 5 star for me. I felt every single word. Having a pug myself I was able to relate to everything that was expressed. It really does show how much our dogs mean to us.
This is a cute and fun book. It looks like having a dog is a lot like having a cat. I liked the illustrations.
I recieved an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Living With Mochi is a cute collection of vignettes from life with an adorable pug named Mochi. The wide range of expressions Gemma Gené draws Mochi with are a delight. Most pages feature two to three borderless panels/spot illustrations, and the narrative is easy to parse. All of Gené's drawings have character, but I especially enjoyed the black and white watercolor style employed through most of the book. This is the kind of book you can reread anytime for a quick pick me up.
This is a super cute, fun and fast read. I have never owned a dog but Mochi displays many cat traits so I had fun seeing what silly antics any pet can make. This was great to pick up sporadically for a little breath of fun and to relax after a tough day. Nothing really ground breaking here, but the art was super cute. Nobody could be mad thinking about cute little, feisty pugs!
Oh this was so much fun!!! Made me miss the days when we had a dog [but not enough to actually get another dog!! THIS is much better - living vicariously through someone else! YAY! NO dog poop to clean up! LOL] and there was always someone to cuddle with!!
Gemma Gene is a gifted illustrator and her first-hand knowledge of what being a pet owner is all about makes this such a fun and real read. I was sad when it ended [and immediately went and found her on Insta so I could have more Mochi] and look forward to more books about this adorable pug and his Mami and Papi!!
Thank you to NetGalley, Gemma Gene, and Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Living With Mochi is a super cute collection of comics about Gene's pug Mochi. Mochi is a very dramatic and loved pug and it shows the relationships, adventures, and mishaps he is part of.
The artwork is clean and inviting, with a cutsie flair that will draw in young readers as well. A great addition that will add some feel-good wholesomeness to any collection.
I don't even know what to say about this. Well 5/5 stars at least.
This was just such a funny, cute, and lighthearted read.
And like mochi was hilarious and reminded me of my cat.
I shall provide some images and hope that they work.
First, this IS my cat. Whenever I'm reading a book a physical book she comes and lays her head on the book, on my hand, or sits on the book :p And when I'm reading an ebook on my laptop, well this leads into the next photo.

So yes, whenever I am on my laptop SNICKERS comes and sits on like the trackpad or whatever and just makes it impossible to read or do homework. Speaking of homework, she loves sitting on my notebooks and homework :p

Next, whenever I get food, snickers has to come over and sniff it or lick it. Well, she never actually eats it buttttt it's the same concept.

These next ones are actually actually my cat. Okay, she doesn't really sleep on my head, but she tangles my hair? I used to always find her in my laundry basket. She loves sitting or sleeping on my clothes like if I leave a hoodie on the floor. SEE on top of any paper. Yep, of course on my lap. YES WHENEVER WE ARE GOING SOMEWHERE SHE GOES IN OUR SUITCASES AND BECOMES SUPER ATTENTION SEEKING CAUSE SHE KNOWS WE ARE LEAVING. or she does the complete opposite and ignores us cause she is petty and mad. Yup, the laptop again.

This book without a doubt MY FAVORITE. This book is so freaking adorable. I love MOCHI. CAN I HAVE A MOCHI IN MY LIFE TOO :( this book makes me mushy. I kept smiling while reading this book. This book will make you realize that we should enjoy/celebrate our small achievements. We should find light even in darkest of days, At the end all that matter is hope.
Thank you Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book and to provide a copy in return of an honest review,
Happy Publication week! Available THIS TUESDAY March 6th!
This graphic novel was absolutely ADORABLE and so relatable! We have a pug named Mr. Bojangles aka “Bobo” so I found myself LOLing at almost every single page of this sweet little book. ( See my Bookstagram @greeneyedgirl0704 link in the link tree in my bio for our Happy Publication wishes & Happy Easter picture to see him in all his glory.)
“Living with Mochi” is for dog lovers everywhere, it’s not just about Pugs, but if your dog has a quirky, one-of-a-kind personality I guarantee that you will see them within these pages!
🐶 Does your dog think that they should eat their food AND get to share yours?
🐶 Would your dog say that the most valuable item in the house is the refrigerator?
🐶 Does your dog paw you for attention and casually ( or maybe more adamantly) remind you that they REALLY want a piece of that cookie? Sandwich? Potato Chip?
🐶 Do you feel bad about moving or getting up because your dog is asleep or comfortable on top of you?
🐶 Does your dog look at other pets like they’re below them and think that they are human?
🐶 Does your dog find the pill in all types of food no matter how well you disguise it?
If so, this book is just MIGHT be for you. Pass it around the family, and even give it as a gift for a dog-lover that you know because this one is a hoot!!!!
5 ⭐️!
Thank you to Gemma Gene, Netgalley & Andrews McMeel Publishing for the advanced e-arc of this book.
Thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing and to the NetGalley for opportunity to read this comic book!
It tells us story about Mochi’s life: how he was adopted, about his Mami and Papi, and other people that he likes, what he generally likes, sleep patterns, favourite food and about things that he dislikes.
This was so cute and funny. Adorable pug Mochi is what you need after a stressful day at work/school. It will be very pleasing and relatable for all dog owner. Artwork is so cute and very suitable to the story
Cute, funny and relatable.
Mochi rules! 😎
My partner and I adopted two dogs five years ago, and I've seen many similarities between Mochi and them. Also I identify quite a lot with the author. My partner and I can remember all the dogs' names but we struggle to remember their humans' names 🙈.
Publication date: April 6th, 2021. You can pre-order the e-book and paperback.
Thanks to NetGalley, Andrews McMeel Publishing, and the author, Gemma Gene, for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was delightful! It was like a love letter to Mochi in comic form. As someone who is obsessed with their dog I found this to be funny and very very relatable. Mochi and my English Bulldog, Lady Gwen, have a lot in common. A must read for dog lovers!
Architect-turned-cartoonist Gemma Gené brings to life her relationship with her pug Mochi in this endearing collection of illustrations that is Living With Mochi. Mochi is an omnivorous, adorable, scene-stealing star, and his parents know this about him and clearly love to celebrate it, except maybe when he steals half of the bed at night, along with a pillow and half the duvet.
Gené shares her stories of love and family, food and sleep, with whimsical illustrations that show the cute pug at his best and and at his worst. There are good days for Mochi—when he gets to eat ice cream, when he gets to snuggle with his Mami, when he gets to play with his dog friend Ben at the park. And there are the bad days for Mochi—when it’s raining, when he has to spend time alone, when he has to go to the vet (although to be fair, it doesn’t seem like that’s a great day for the vet either).
Even though Gené had been dreaming for years of a black pug, she took one look at Mochi and knew that he was the one. Mochi knew it too. And then he threw up on her. (He vomits easily, especially when there is a change in his environment.)
Living With Mochi is a realistic portrayal of life with a beloved pet. There are boundary issues, they beg you for food (their own as well as yours), they sit on your lap as well as your laptop, they sleep on your feet or your head or your face. (I may know a little about this type of relationship. He’s an orange cat with all the cuteness, but the way he rules our household is very much like how Mochi rules his.) But isn’t that what pet ownership is all about? The love that warms your heart and heals you from the pain and indignities of life?
Living With Mochi is a celebration of the love we share with our pets and the light they bring to our lives. This charming book is a perfect gift for pug lovers especially, but all pet lovers can relate to these stories. And Mochi really is cute. He will steal your heart, just like he did Gené’s.
Egalleys for Living with Mochi were provided by Andrews McMeel Publishing through NetGalley, with many thanks.
Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for this arc.
I loved Mochi SO much. I think if I lived alone I would have a dog as spoiled as him and the author is fantastic. Now that my dog is older, we spoil him so much more than before. But that was not always like it. I could relate with her parents because losing a dearest dog is heartbreaking and more if you pass his illness. But I even agree with gemma the longing to have a dog and her crazyness about him. I totally relate to it. I read it in a one sitting and laugh all the way down. So much of the situations were the funniest because its true and she could represent it all so SO well. Im actually very grateful and honored to be able to read this arc and get to know Mochi. Now I’m a follower to! Gemma: let me say to you that you are AMAZING. Im looking forward for more from you and keep this way please! I been blessed.
EVERYONE PLEASE READ THIS FANTABULOUS BOOK ALRIGHT????
If you love Pugs or Dogs or Funny and cute dog art (mostly in grayscale) this little bit of Joy might be for you. A fun and quick read to take your mind off the day Mochi is exactly what you need for an easy smile.
Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read this ARC, and the above view is my own.
