Description

The New Mediterranean Diet Cookbook is your guidebook to the ultimate superdiet, an evidence-based keto diet that emphasizes a diversity of fish, healthy fats, and a rainbow of colorful vegetables—with 100 delicious recipes for everything from snacks to dinner.

The Mediterranean diet has long been touted as one of the world’s healthiest diets, renowned for its protective effects against heart disease, cancer, and other chronic illnesses. However, its heavy inclusion of grains and carbohydrates can contribute to obesity and is a drawback for many. Also shown to have many health benefits, the ketogenic diet stimulates the fat-burning and longevity-promoting state of ketosis by limiting carbs and emphasizing high-fat foods. While the keto diet is about the proportion of macronutrients (fats, protein, carbohydrates) in the food you eat, the Mediterranean diet is about specific food types: seafood, olive oil, colorful vegetables, and other anti-inflammatory foods.

This book is about living and eating at the intersection of these complementary diets so you can reap the benefits of both. While both diets advocate significant amounts of healthy fats and protein, the new Mediterranean approach to keto significantly shifts the fat profile of the diet to emphasize the monounsaturated and omega-3 fats that health experts agree promote living a long disease-free life. It also includes colorful vegetables, providing a diversity of nutrients and flavor. The result is an enhanced Mediterranean diet that stokes metabolism, supports the gut and microbiome, and is anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, and nutrient-dense.

Improve your overall health while enjoying delectable dishes including:

  • Superfood Shakshuka
  • Blender Cinnamon Pancakes with Cacao Cream Topping
  • Green Goddess Salad
  • Pancetta Wrapped Sea Bass Sheet Pan
  • Crispy Salmon Piccata
  • Fierce Meatball Zoodle Bolognese
  • Nordic Stone Age Bread
  • Chocolate Hazelnut “Powerhouse” Truffles

With The New Mediterranean Diet Cookbook, you’ll learn how to balance your macronutrients, what foods are considered the new Mediterranean superfoods, and how to make tasty dishes to keep you satisfied all day.

The beginning of this cookbook gives the reasons for the diet as well as important health benefits of certain foods. The recipes in the book look good with beautiful pictures. Some of the recipes have a lot of ingredients and/or unusual ingredients which may throw some readers off.

What a great cookbook! Fantastic photos and easy to follow directions. My mouth was watering just reading the recipes and looking at the photos. I really enjoyed the beginning portion which broke down so much information about this diet. It felt very helpful with understanding why this diet will be successful.

Some really interesting recipes. I'm reminded to try cauliflower rice in more of my meals and the huge benefits of salmon to health.

I'm going to try the coconut lollies as my husband is a huge coconut fan. I'm going to add this cookbook to my present list :)

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

5* for this great book. The format is excellent and easy to understand. I love that the staple foods are explained in great detail with key points highlights in the yellow boxes. The practical tips are so informing and certainly give you plenty to think about.

Recipes start from page 35 and there are so many great choices in this book that I myself know I will be very busy in the kitchen whipping up delicious healthy meals.

Recipes are easy to follow with all the nutrition facts at the end of each recipe. Each recipe includes interesting information and extra tips for you to experiment with.

There are many fun facts which are all really helpful also.

Pictures of recipes are colourful and give great examples of how your recipes look like.

Each recipe gives you servings, hands on time and overall time.

Overall I was very impressed with this book and will definitely be purchasing this one. Well done to the writers of the book.

Thanks to Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Fair Winds for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This is more than just another Mediterranean Diet Cookbook. This book combines the healthy and popular Mediterranean diet with the Ketogenic diet. It is filled with information about both diets and how they can complement one another. The format is easy to understand and the mouthwatering photos are in color. The recipes go beyond the basic Mediterranean staples of fish and olives. There are notes and helpful items throughout the book and explanations about why certain ingredients are better than others. The recipes are simple enough with easy-to-find ingredients. I am looking forward to cooking my way through this book. Bon appetit!

What a fabulous and clever idea, combining the world's healthiest Mediterranean diet with the low carb, high fat ketogenic diet (or, as I like to say, lifestyle). These are 100 recipes with a purpose...to include superfoods in a balanced way with the nutritional values listed. Every single ingredient plays a role. These are not recipes which happen to be healthy but chosen carefully to provide us with what our bodies need. And the photography is crystal clear and vibrant, mouthwatering.

First, the four knowledgeable authors with culinary, healthcare and scientific backgrounds point to science and benefits (though this is not textbookish) of the New Mediterranean diet and keto and explain the principles of the book along with illustrations. The insulin octopus is my favourite analogy, one I will remember.

Second, the recipes which make optimal use of the described superfoods (which have changed, by the way). So many are complete meals such as Greek Breakfast Power Bowl, Herb and Cheese Fritters (making for lunch!), Upgraded Shrimp Cocktail Salad, Five-Superfood Salmon Brain Bowl and Pancetta-Wrapped Sea Bas Sheet Pan. Not only are we given the nutrition values but tips, key points and fun facts. I plan to make most of these dishes but will start off with Fennel Tzatziki, Goat's Cheese and Hazelnut Dip; Coconut Shrimp Skillet; and Poached Chicken with Fettucine Avgolemono. In summer I will make the Lemon Berry Cream Pops.

As a forager who lives part time in the Mediterranean on a keto diet for health reasons this book is my wheelhouse...and then some. Talk about refreshingly original and inspiring! I taught culinary classes and am always looking for new techniques and combinations. Got it here. So, if you are seeking something different, something healthy (I mean truly healthy) do pick up this book to add to your culinary lifestyle repertoire.

My sincere thank you to Quarto Publishing Group - Fair Winds and NetGalley for the privilege of reading this compelling ARC.

An interesting cookbook full of health nuggets. It's great to educate you about the properties of certain foods and how to combine them for maximised efficiency. I enjoyed those little snippets on every page. There are a lot of tasty looking breakfast recipes and I liked how the book was divided into breakfast, snacks, salad/soups, lunch, dinner, sides and desserts. The dinner section was the most interesting to me with many flavourful options and suggestion for varied meals, I want to try the Moroccan lamb tagine, the Sciency liver saute skillet, mackerel with cilantro slaw, and a lot more. But I can't help but feel that there were a lot of similar feel recipes too, a lot of avocados and salmon, a lot of spirilized zucchini and a huge amount of recipes containing cauliflower. Of course there are no carbs, so the options are restricted. And I guess that if you buy a machine for making zucchini pasta you want to use it at its fullest, but I don't really intend to get one so I guess it was bound to stand out to me.

Mediterranean all ways makes me think of feta cheese and olives, This goes far beyond my expectations and has some great unique foods.

I am always looking for new recipes and foods to incorporate into what I prepare for my family. We tried the crispy salmon piccata and holy wow was it ever amazing! I’m definitely looking forward to utilizing this cookbook more, especially for the shrimp entrees.

My hubby and I went keto last fall. For me it was to improve my health post-covid when I was left with a lot of lingering diabetes-like issues (even though I was not diabetic before getting sick, that has been reported by others as well) and for hubby it was about weight loss. It has worked very well for both of us. I lost a lot extra weight that had been stubbornly hanging around since I turned 40 and we both feel good (my heart palpitations have mostly gone away, my blood pressure is down again, my blurry vision has improved, I have energy again, etc.). I cook very clean keto and look for healthy keto recipes, which can be hard with all the "cheese and pork rinds" types of keto cookbooks out there. I seek out Mediterranean recipes since the health effects are well known, so this book was a perfect resource.

The recipes are diverse and fairly easy to follow. Nutritional information is given for every recipe, with more detail than most (things like healthy oil percentages, detailed macros, etc. are given) and there are lots of color recipes. The beginning gives a very good overview of the benefits of both diets and what foods are best for you. I'm looking forward to trying a lot of the recipes.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.

Easy to follow, delicious recipes. Loads of tips and ideas for following the Mediterranean diet. I loved how clearly each recipe was written out, including nutritional information. The pictures alone make you want to run to the kitchen and try the recipes out.

I am food obsessed. I drive friends and family mad by constantly watching things like MasterChef and Saturday Kitchen, trying to find the next wild and interesting thing to attempt cooking.

I don't need a diet, but I am very conscious of what ingredients I use or what something contains. I don't trust most ready made sauces for instance (no matter how well renowned) as I'm not convinced what quality ingredients went in to it.

The New Mediterranean Diet Cookbook grabbed me right from the start. I am terrible at being told what I should and shouldn't eat, but this book cleverly explains why things are good for you and how to make subtle changes to what you already cook with. Nothing authoritarian such as 'you must' or 'do not use', it simply lists the benefits of various ingredients and what a difference they can make for very little alterations.

I've long thought it's not about 'what' you eat but the attitude towards the food you eat and what you cook with.

The recipes are interesting and clearly healthier alternatives to what some may already make, but I didn't find anything overly revolutionary unfortunately, but perhaps that's because I am quite adventurous with what I cook. It does however serve as fantastic inspiration of how to apply the ingredients you learn about in the first chapter and how to incorporate those changes in to your diet.

The cover of this recipe book is really appealing. It made me request it from the publishers as soon as I saw it. The photographs of the food throughout are very well presented and make the dishes appealing. .

Recipes are clearly written, from an American point of view so imperial measurements and cup measurements are given first, but helpfully there are metric measurements as well..

There is a lot of ‘science’ to convince you that higher fat, lower carb and Keto are the way forward, combined with the benefits of Mediterranean eating. It’s interesting enough to flick through this at the beginning and read about the benefits of various foods and the impact they may have upon the body. You can take the science as far as you want to, the main thing is the recipes and they look really tasty. Lots of the recipes will appeal; I don’t think you have to be committed to a Keto diet, or eat Mediterranean style meals all the time. I shall definitely be trying a few .

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book.

If you're looking to eat healthier you're going to want to add this cookbook to your stash. Very well thought out with symbols on each page to show which dietary restrictions that recipe meets, servings, hands-on time, overall time, nutrition facts and the occasional "fun fact" about a particular recipe or ingredient.

Thank you to Quarto Publishing and NetGalley for allowing me to preview this cookbook. My review is voluntary and all opinions are my own.

I want to thank the authors and Netgalley for gifting me this ebook. This cook book is really great! It has so many recipes that I cannot wait to try. I suffer from endometriosis and I have read up and many people have talked about switching to a mediterranean diet, and how when they tried it that it help with their endo pain. This book I will be going back to again and again.

This is a cookbook that promises recipes for a healthy, keto based diet. That may well be true but, importantly, it is a book filled with good sounding food. There are chapters on breakfasts, snacks, salads & soups, lunches, dinners, sides and desserts. There are also a lengthy introduction, a section on basics and another on further reading. The photos show appealing looking foods.

A few examples of the recipes; these are from the breakfast chapter. There are green spinach & salmon crepes, Turkish egg bowl, sausage-avo-egg stack and creamy cinnamon porridge, among others. These recipes look easy to follow.

For readers who are intrigued, enjoy looking at recipes for the rest of the day and more. This cookbook looks like a very good resource.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own.

If ever there was a time to explore a new cookbook, this is the time. I have been the chief cook in my house since last March, and honestly, I have run out of new ideas. Especially healthy ones, and not just making pasta, again. While I don't personally follow a strict Mediterranean or Keto diet, what I do want is healthy, non-processed food that tastes good too. You will find all that and more in this cookbook, and if you do want to learn more about the science behind eating certain foods, that is here too. So many cookbooks claim to have nutritional recipes, yet provide very little information to back up those claims. What I appreciated most were the detailed nutritional information and the gorgeous pictures. I didn't have to Google a similar recipe to see how it should look, and I have run into that with so many other cookbooks.
There are sections for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, soup and salads, and desserts. I was extremely happy to have some new ideas, and a few of my favorites so far are the Superfood Omelet, Eggplant Manicotti, and the Wild Mushroom Chicken Risotto. A very informative book whether you want to change your whole diet, or just make some changes and make it healthier.

I love Martina Slajerova's recipes and blog. So, I was super excited to review her newest cookbook. As someone who is Italian-American I love these recipes. The focus on healthy fats and the ratios information is awesome. I also really liked that her desserts were not heavy laden with sugar subs. This is a very clean eating cookbook. I can't wait to try the recipes. My only reason of giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is the fact that some of the ingredients are hard to get where I live. I would love to find fresh Mackerel, but locally all I can find is canned. It would be nice if she included some options in those recipes who can't find certain ingredients. Other than that a very clean healthy keto cookbook.

The New Mediterranean Diet Cookbook is a tutorial guide with recipes by Martina Šlajerová et al. Due out 13th April 2021 from Quarto on their Fair Winds Press imprint, it's 208 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats.
The Mediterranean diet has gotten a lot of attention because of its association with a wide variety of health benefits including a lower incidence of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, neurodegenerative disease, and early death. This book provides a good introduction (the authors call it a crash course) to the science behind the diet and lifestyle for beginners wanting to make changes to their eating habits for health benefits and a healthier lifestyle. Extra information is provided in highlighted text boxes with short information bits which are accessible and easy to understand. The book also includes clear colorful graphics to help make information easier to remember. This book contains recipes which are also keto-friendly for weight loss and maintenance.

The layout is logical and easy to follow. The introduction covers the basics of the Mediterranean Diet, tools, supplies, and the how-to and why of choosing ingredients. The following chapters include the recipes arranged roughly by category: breakfast, snacks, salads & soups, lunches, dinners, sides, desserts, and partial recipe ingredients (sauces, spice mixes, pesto, etc).

Ingredient measurements are supplied in American standard measurements with metric in parentheses. The nutritional information: calories, fat, carbs, and protein content are listed for the recipes as well as macronutrient ratios, fat breakdowns, and serving sizes. Extra tips or recipe alternatives are listed in sidebars. The recipes themselves are fairly straightforward and are made with easily sourced ingredients. Many are very simple, none of them are overly complex. I didn't count the number of recipes, but there are a lot.

The photography is abundant, clear, and appealing; roughly 2/3rds of the recipes are illustrated, and serving suggestions are appropriate and appetizing.

This is a nice collection of recipes and will keep cooks going for ages. Many of these can also easily be adapted to other styles of cooking and meal planning.

Four stars.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Beautiful and insightful cookbook. My husband and I just switched to eating more of a Mediterranean way of eating, and this cookbook will become a staple in the household, especially for dinners. I am always on the hunt for new cookbooks, and this will be a purchase for sure.
I love that there are tons of beautiful pictures throughout-because, to be honest, I normally skim right past the recipes that don't have any.

Mediterranean meets Keto. Great informative book highlighting the benefits of reducing carbohydrates. It explains the role of carbohydrates on insulin and fat cells. Detailed information, in layman’s terms which is easy to follow. There is a vast range of excellent recipes in the book, which will ensure that you will never be bored with food on this diet.

Thank you Netgalley for a free review copy in return for an honest review.

The New Mediterranean Diet cookbook is a bit of a change from a standard paleo cookbook- for one, the recipes are much closer to food I can eat (no bacon and shellfish for me). There are loads of delicious looking fish recipes, for example, that I can't wait to try. I do think this is a far better cookbook for adventurous cooks and eaters- the recipes are not challenging, but most would not go over well in my family of picky eaters. 4 stars- plus a half for really gorgeous photography!

Combines the Mediterranean diet with a low carb high fat ketogenic diet. First, the scientific underpinnings are explained, then follow recipes with comprehensive nutritional information. The recipes have a wonderful freshness about them. The book is beautifully illustrated too.

I made the Creamy Wild Mushroom Soup with dried porcinis, chestnut mushrooms and roasted cauliflower and red onions. It was creamy, earthy and delicious.

The authors do tend to use expensive ingredients such as avocado oil though.. Also for non-fish lovers, it is heavy in the use of fish and seafood.

Lots of yummy new recipes to try. I did like what I have made so far.

This is one cookbook I will be buying for myself as soon as I can.

I do recommend this.

Thanks to Quarto Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this beautiful cookbook- received as an ebook that I can easily access on my iPad.
What makes this new, you ask? Starting with a personalised note from each of the authors to someone who has helped them on their health journey, through to the clearly explained definitions and health science, the simple and easy to follow recipes and of course the tasty food as a result! As someone who has read and trialled a bit of keto and the Mediterranean diet, this is a one of a kind on combining the two in such a way and will be my only ‘go to’ for recipe inspiration from now on!

The New Mediterranean Diet Cookbook is an amazing recipe book to help you to eat a much healthier diet.
The book starts out introducing you to the style of the Mediterranean diet and the science behind this type of diet and cooking. Then the book moves on to mouthwatering recipes that had my taste buds tingling.
I received a pdf version of the book so I've screenshot some of the recipes I really want to give a go to try at a later date.
Each recipe includes symbols as to if certain dietary restrictions are included etc and there are the odd fun facts to go with some dishes spotted through the book.
I just hope my attempt looks as good as the photos in this book.

THE NEW MEDITERRANEAN DIET COOKBOOK is almost a unicorn for those of us searching for healthy habits. This cookbook modifies the Mediterranean Diet with a low-carb Keto approach, providing the hope that this cross-section is slightly better than either approach alone. There is a great introduction that describes the value in this approach. Each recipe has micronutrient counts listed for ease of use. I made one of the recipes in the book and was pleased with the outcome. This book is definitely at the cusp of healthy eating, for those wishing to cook or bake at home. I received my copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
