This is a story that I wish I could give more then five starts. Because it deserves it. It is a heartbreaking touching story. About Frankie and Risk. They have known each other most of their lives and started dating at sixteen. Frankie encouraged Risks music. So three years later when his band is going to be signed Frankie knows she needs to break up with him so that he will go and pursue his dream. While she stays to be with her mom who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Now nine years later Risk is back. And they have both been through so much in that time. This was a very emotional story. Frankie seeing her mother slowly deteriorate and not be able to remember Frankie. And Risk not being able to cope and turning to alcohol and drugs to cover his hurt was heartbreaking. But the author did an a great job of piecing them back together. I cannot recommend this book enough!!!

I really want to rate this book higher. I am a big LA Casey fan so thanks to net galley for this ARC but it just didn’t grab me like all the others I’m afraid. It was still a good read but it just fell a little flat and I wanted to know more about the secondary characters.

Wow! I mean—WOW!!!

This was everything and more, the storyline was captivating, drawing you in with the emotions that was inside. God, I loved everything about this book, seriously. LA Casey is one of my unicorn authors and I love everything about her books, everything. Everyone needs to get a copy of echoes of the heart, ASAP! I just can’t even with this book, I was speechless, I was in tears, both with sadness and laughter. This seriously has it all, and it deserves more than 5 ⭐️

I absolutely loved this! The cover is smoking hawt! The title apt and the blurb makes you want this book! For me though... I’m in it for the author! Her books which I’ve been reading since Dominic came out have endeared me to her style of romanticism.

What did I like? Frankie..Little..Cherry..Bilbo..The leading lady is a firecracker with more names than I could possibly keep up with. Risk is the proverbial rock star that she let go so he could become what he did. Well you know they say if you let something go and it comes back to you then you know it was meant to be. This book had my heart throbbing for these two. I didn’t want to put it down and now I have such a book hang over. Five stars... Author really rocked this one!

Would I recommend or buy? This author has really grown in her writing and this is her 19th book. Amazing! I thought this was a fantastic read and love the snark between Risk and Frankie! If you love romance then this is romance at its highest. Second chance romance lovers will be delighted with this book. I will definitely get a copy for my shelf! Five stars!

I received a complimentary copy to read and voluntarily left a review!

Echoes of the Heart by L.A. Casey

Four Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Echoes of the Heart by L.A. Casey is a standalone contemporary second chance Romance that I really enjoyed. I was surprised, because I don’t usually like a rock star hero. But, this one worked for me.

After a passionate teenage love affair, Frankie breaks up with Risk to allow him to pursue his dream of becoming a rock star as she stays in their small seaside town of Southwold, UK to care for her mother. After nine years, Risk walks back into Frankie’s life, and their passion for each other resurfaces.

This book was fun and emotional to read. I don’t usually like a book with a rock star as the hero, their hedonistic lifestyle doesn’t usually make a good romantic story, however for this book, it worked.

The banter between Frankie and Risk, and among the bandmates was funny and lighthearted, it was a good contrast for the emotional, intense love story between Frankie and Risk. I also enjoyed the relationship between Frankie and her stepfather. I liked the way they joined forces to support each other through Frankie’s mothers illness.

The love story between Frankie and Risk is very intense, steamy, and chaotic. Risk came from a foster home and never knew true love until he met Frankie as a teenager, there separation as teens was something neither got over, even though they wanted to forget each other.

I recommend this book for a strong emotional read with lighthearted, funny scenes that break up the intense love story.

This review is based on NetGalley ARC provided in exchange for an honest, unbiased opinion.

Echoes of the Heart, L.A. Casey

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
Romance
Genre: Romance, general fiction ( adult)

I've enjoyed several of this authors books, and of course the rock star romance genre and second chance stuff always hooks me. I enjoyed this but not quite as much as I expected.
My heart broke for young Risk, and for how good Frankie was with him. Then when they were older I understood Frankie's reasons for pushing Risk away, I agreed with them even, and yet somehow it irked me. I couldn't understand how Risk didn't see it, why he was so resentful.
He was all about everyone leaving him, very focused on that even years later. Still, you need to walk in someone's shoes to truly understand their actions. Both Risk and Frankie were still clearly very much in love.

The big thing that breaks them was something I struggled with, I really didn't see why it was such a problem. Though of course there has to be something doesn't there or we'd get a very bland romance, and I'm all about the break up dramas....

Frankie's mum, Michael, and the problems they had with her illness were heartbreaking. Its such a cruel disease, so hard on families more so than the person affected. Living bit not living, her mum, his wife and yet not that person. Tough and they were so good with her. For many its just too much to deal with, but they stuck by her no matter how hard.

I loved the other lads in the band, the band issues, the drug problems and the rabid fans. For me they all belong in a proper band read, and make the book stand out.

Its a fun read, just didn't quite grip me as much as others I've read. I loved the setting, Southwold is about 50 miles from e, and a place I've holidayed at many times. It was fun to read it as the setting for fiction romance.

Stars: Four, a fun band read, great characters, brilliant setting!

Ultimately this book is what it is, and that’s a fairly competent romance. The author relies heavily on both flashbacks and straight up telling (vs showing) the reader to establish characterization. I also think the substance abuse in the book is handled a little clumsily But the book is certainly readable.

I couldn’t put this book down!

The characters drew me in from the very beginning and the story was both heartbreaking and steamy. I especially loved the secondary characters who were both funny and loyal. Echoes of the Heart deals with some tricky subjects from addiction to dementia but deals with them beautifully and yet poignantly.

I became a little frustrated towards the end with Rockstar Risk but I still pulled for both characters. I would happily read this book again and would thoroughly recommend it.

This book is so beautifully heartbreaking that I didn't want to put it down. I adored Frankie, strong, loyal and true, she was a fantastic character who put everyone else before her. Reading about her struggles with her family and just in life in general broke my heart and I wanted, needed, her to get her HEA.

Risk's past was heartbreaking as well and through flashbacks, we see what he had to deal with and how Frankie and he supported each other first as friends then as more. I loved them together and I also mourned the breakup because they deserved so much more. I'm not a huge fan of flashback and there are quite a bit of them but the author did a great job incorporating them without breaking the flow up too much.

I didn't think the break-up itself (the reason, the aftermath, etc) was very believable given how much they loved each other. But that said, there had to be one, right, for this to be a second chance romance.

There are some difficult topics being dealt with, including drugs, abuse and of course, Frankie's mother's decline from Alzheimers. There are a few moments of levity but really, the heartfelt and emotional writing truly is what made this an unputdownable book. Thanks to NetGalley for an early copy!!

Echoes of the Heart by L.A. Casey a flavoursome five-star read. This one was a difficult one, as I loved 90% of the story, but I found the other 10% a struggle to read. I went for 5 stars overall as I enjoyed the majority so much. Frankie was the main reason I enjoyed this story, her empathy shone through the page, her relationship with her mother and step farther was some of the most heart-warming. Risk was your typical Rockstar, overnight success isn’t always a good thing, the rest of the band made me smile, they clearly wanted to succeed and want what is best for Risk, but what happens when the best thing may not be the right thing for everyone. There is so much raw emotion in this story, it will shatter your heart and leave the echoes pouring through the night.

I was a bit underwhelmed by this book. I wanted to be more excited, particularly as I found the heroine quite an attractive character. However the original love story didn't feel compelling enough and then the reunion also felt quite underwhelming. The characters were sympathetic but it just lacked a certain pzazz I felt.

L.A Casey books never fail to hook me in and this book was no different at all.
She is an absolutely amazing writer.
This book had me hooked from page 1.
Literally cannot wait for more books from her now

First of all I would like to thank NetGalley and Montlake publishing for the early opportunity to read and review this book.

I’m in a book coma! Still processing, still thinking of.... Frankie and Risk. Still feeling their pain, disappointment, their anxiety but yet feeling their love, their joy, their coming alive everytime they came together. In this story there is love bigger than life itself. The suffering and hurt are suddenly swept away in love and happiness.

I know LA. Casey has always written beautiful emotinal stories but I think she has surpassed all of the others with this one. Because OMG it wasn’t just beautiful, it was meaningful and bloody brilliant.

Abusive foster parents, terminal disease and emotions, so deep that your own heart hurts for the main characters, and all the shed tears give you an amazing story full of ups and downs you would definitely enjoy. This is a story you’ll want to devour, a story that makes you scream in your own head but also makes you laugh.
It has everything! There was no way I was putting this book down I just had to know what happens next.
I am sure you will agree 100% when you start reading it.

So peeps get it read and say otherwise.. I dare you!

This was definitely an emotional, exciting and sexy story.

I loved that both Risk and Frankie actually never stopped loving each other and never wanted to end things but they had very good reasons to. Their journey coming back together was very sweet and romantic roller coaster with many unexpected twists that kept me turning the pages.

This is the first book I read from this author ans I definitely want to read more.

This is a well written second-chance romance with two perfectly imperfect leading characters. I love that both Frankie and Risk are imperfect in their own ways but that they are also ment to be together despite everything they've to go through.
This novel is extremely moving but the best thing is that all the emotions are masterfully mixed with a lot of humor and sarcasm –hilarious height jokes and friendly insults–. The bantering and easy jokes reminded me a lot of the Slater brothers, so bonus points for that!

I love second chance romance stories, and since I already know L.A. Casey can write a stunning one, it seems like a no brainer that I would jump at the chance to read and review Echoes of the Heart,

A decade ago, Frankie and Risk were just like any other people in a serious relationship. They lived together, and Risk was doing all he can for his band to get signed to a label. Things take a turn for the worse, however, when Frankie discovers that her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Frankie's mother's diagnosis coincided with the break that Risk has been waiting for, and since Frankie didn't want him to give up his dream, she pushes Risk away. Fast forward to ten years later - Risk is now an accomplished and famous musician, while Frankie's life hasn't really changed much. They meet again when Risk and his bandmates come home to celebrate their high school music teacher's retirement.

There a lot of things at play - Risk is resentful of how Frankie pushed him away, and Frankie, knowing that Risk would have never left her otherwise, is largely unapologetic. Frankie is also struggling to deal with her mother's impending death, while Risk has abandonment issues to work through. It took a few difficult interactions before Frankie and Risk decided to try being friends, and I adored seeing the pay off and them realizing that their love story was nowhere near done. They were always each other's biggest supporters, and reading about Risk and Frankie finding their way back to each other was incredibly rewarding.

I really enjoyed Echoes of the Heart, and I look forward to what L.A. Casey writes next!

I am tired of the same cliches in romance books.
The tiny girl with auburn hair and green eyes
The 6ft blond guy that they broke up long time ago and they are not over it.
She did not get another boyfriend she is stuck in the same situation for a decade.
On the other hand he became a rockstar and he is shagging all the girls around doing drugs, etc.
Sorry but I am done with that.
Also, this supposed to be based in England, but I cannot feel it, looks more like an American-Irish place, even the way that they talk.
As well there is a situation that she was punched on the face by his foster father and she doesn't do anything about it, not reporting to the police or say who did that to her.

Enough. Clearly She needs counseling, not addressing mental health in 2021 is a big NO for me.
And his name, Risk, seriously?

Echoes of the heart
By: LA Casey

📚💕⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💕📚

Love is heartbreaking?

In this emotional and heartbreaking book you’ll discover true loyalty, a daughters love and find out if two people were always meant to be.

I can honestly say that I cried for the first 50% of this book. The absolute anguish rolling page after page was torment. You’ll feel pain, sorrow and unending frustration for a lost love.

The author writing is flawless, and the words are so captivating, the plot had so many twists and turns and none that I was expecting, and many shockingly intimate I have become a huge fan of this author. The author writes with so much intensity and emotion pulled from each book it’s felt page after page. Some are quick witted story lines are so perfect and lets you believe you have a front row seat. So being able to read this love story didn’t disappoint. The authors ability to have two separate individuals struggling in their everyday life and try to navigate someone else’s thoughts, needs and desires was intense and gives all the fills.

Authors Blurb: When rock star Risk Keller shows up in Frankie’s diner with his heart on his sleeve, it turns her world upside down. Letting him go was the hardest thing she ever had to do. For years, his voice has been a reminder of everything she sacrificed, and now it’s time to face the music.
For Risk, coming home shows him what he’s always known deep down every song, every gig, every drink, every girl it’s always been about Frankie.
There’s no denying their intense chemistry. But Risk still has a career that takes him around the world; Frankie still has a sick mother she loves too much to leave. Can they overcome everything in their way to give first love a second chance?

This book has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a five star read. Written in dual POV my personal favorite this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know your 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.

Thanks Netgally for letting me read and review.📚💕

Love LA Casey's work and this was no exception. Very well done by the author and would definitely recommend this.

I cried AND laughed until I cried with this one! I am an early fan of Casey and have read most of her books, and they are always 4-5 Stars. But I don’t EVER EVER cry while reading and very rarely laugh out loud (without tears), so to do both in one book makes it a MUST READ. There are some really beautiful moments in this book as well as some truly hilarious ones, but they are only possible because Casey is a gifted writer when it comes to character development and world-building! She has always had such a clear strong writing style that truly sucks you into her world. Her characters are always genuine, 3-dimensional people who have truly lived a life worth reading about. They are relatable, imperfect, attractive but real, and I love that her female characters are always curvy with a backbone. They are people I'd actually want to know, to hang out with, to cheer for so it's always an enjoyable read with heart!
I highly recommend this read but warn you that you will be diving into her other books as soon as you put it down!

Sniff sniff a few tears at this one 3/4 of the way through but a lovely ending. Will there be a follow up ? Would like to think so. Throughly enjoyed this love story and got really invested in this couple wishing them back together. The mother/daughter/step father storyline was very emotional and well written around a difficult subject as Alzheimer’s. All in all a lovely book which I’ll remember for days to come. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is a great book. The two main characters Risk and Frankie have loved each other all their lives. When they were young adults something tore them apart. Several years later they find each other again. Their loves wins.

Was this review helpful?

I have loved many of LA Casey’s previous books so when I saw this come available on NetGalley I requested it right away.

Echoes of the Heart is a second chance love story. Frankie and Risk are best friends and high school sweethearts. But when Frankie’s mom gets diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at the same time Risk’s band gets their first big break, it’s clear their paths are diverging for the first time. Fast forward nine years, Frankie is still living in their small town taking care of her mom and working as a waitress when Risk comes back to town for the first time.

This was such a beautiful story of how two people who are meant to be together find their way back when life throws them apart. I loved both of these characters and honestly felt their pain and soul-deep love for each other. I flew through this book their story was so captivating.

Note: I will add a possible trigger warning for substance abuse and assault. I felt they were both handled well within the narrative but please be advised.

I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I love a second-chance rock star romance and this one ugh it was heartbreakingly beautiful. Not to mention deeply touching and hard to put down.

And with tortured characters, illness, tragedy and lots of flashbacks I was completely enthralled, and as a new author to me I will definitely be checking out more books by L.A. Casey.

Would happily recommend.

Frankie and Risk need each other!

Frankie Fulton knew that ending her relationship with Risk Keller was the best thing for both of them since she couldn’t leave Southwold because of her mom’s early onset Alzheimer’s and he was meant for rock stardom with his band Blood Oath. Risk had used his memory of Frankie as his muse to write many of their songs, but she never knew it because she would only listen to the instrumental versions because of the heartache it caused.

Echoes of the Heart is really good second chance rockstar romance between Frankie and Risk where they finally figure out that they are better together than being single and lonely in different countries especially with the support of his band.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Wow! Okay! My heart is going a million miles a second. What did I just read? This book had me sucked in from the beginning. I was rooting for Risk & Frankie from the first moment, but there are things people go through and do to each other that there is no getting past. This book was very emotional, had me full blown crying one min and laughing the next. The way it was written was unbelievable. L.A. Casey has a way with words. It been 24 hours since I finished reading the book and I can’t get it out of my head.

Can 2 soulmates find their way back to each other after multiple times of hurting one another? And the true fact was they were doing what they did out of love. Would you hurt yourself to help your other half? But they didn’t think by hurting themselves, they were hurting the person they were trying to save. I need books for every single one of Risk’s band mates! May is something special, I can already feel it. #1 Sinner right here!

Received this ARC for my honest review and opinion. It was amazing.

Frankie Fulton never got over her first love, and the inconvenient fact that he is a world famous rock star means that she will always be reminded of the boy she loved with all her heart, but could never fully have.

Risk Keller has yet to return to his hometown of Southwold, England. In the nine years since he and his band, Blood Oath, left it all behind for the opportunity of a lifetime, he has avoided the town... and one person in particular... his one and only, Frankie.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Echoes of the Heart was an emotional and heartbreaking, second chance romance. When Risk, the rockstar returns home and reunites with Frankie, the woman he left behind, their old feelings come roaring back, but the reason they broke up in the first place has never really changed. And while they share a true love that will never fade, Frankie and Risk were just never meant to be...
Although Frankie loves Risk with everything she has, she could never leave her life in Southwold, or her sick mother, to be with him on his road to success. And when holding him back was never an option, Frankie did the unthinkable, and let him go. But in the years since they last saw each other, Frankie has been a shell of her former self without the man she loves by her side.
Risk has done everything he can to numb himself and forget the heartbreak he suffered at the hands of Frankie, and yet, every song he writes seems to focus on the same woman he just can't seem to let go. Returning to Southwold, he knows he will most likely see her again, but he wasn't expecting the sheer magnitude of feelings he still has for his one and only love.
This book is guaranteed to tear your heart out and oh-so-slowly, put it right back together again. Frankie and Risk were once entirely devoted to each other and had a relationship built on trust and understanding. But with time and the complications of life, their love turns into something too painful for either of them to focus on, so they both find a way to move on with their lives.
When Frankie and Risk were getting along, I absolutely loved their sexy and hilarious dynamic, and the way they just seemed to fit each other. But when their relationship started falling apart, the toxicity between them holds no bounds. These two both have a lot of healing to do, and in the end, they must discover a way to move on for good, or change their lives completely...
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
I have read two other L. A. Casey books in the past and really loved one and didn't like one so I thought I'd give Echoes of the Heart a try. I have to say that Echoes of the Heart lands somewhere in the middle. I liked it, but I can't say that it blew me away. I loved the beginning of the story where we learn about how Risk and Frankie knew each other as kids and how their relationship grew from there. I thought their back story was very interesting and believable. I also loved the setting of a small town on the coast in the UK rather than a setting in a big place such as London which one might expect to see in a rock star story. It was the reconnection of the characters that I didn't feel as much as I wanted to. I just wasn't as drawn into that part of the story. I loved the side characters in Risk's band and would have loved to have had more of them throughout since they also grew up with Risk and Frankie. Overall, it was a good second chance/rock star romance book which I will recommend to those I know will enjoy it.
My sincere thanks to Amazon UK Publishing/Montlake and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book and give my unbiased opinion of it.
**3.75 - 4 Stars**
Okay so this is kind of a tough review to write. This is my first book by this author and I was pleasantly surprised how easily hooked in to the story and characters I was. I found myself not wanting to put my kindle down. I was 100% invested in the story line and the characters. Overall, I still feel that way even after reading the story. The writing is well done, and I loved the friendship between Frankie and the band members from when they were younger. I loved the relationship that formed between Frankie and Michael that flourished in the face of such devastation. I loved the strength of the bond between Frankie and Risk that was developed when they were just teenagers and stayed with them through so many trials and tribulations and time and distance. This book was really a 5 star book for me until the last major conflict scene between Frankie and Risk and its connection to substance use. While I think everyone who struggles with addiction has their own personal journey, there are common themes especially with regard to recovery, and I don't think those were adequately or realistically depicted in the story and I struggled with that when it came to the story. I would definitely like to read another book by the author as I was really enjoying the story for a good 75% of the book so I look forward to trying another read.
Love me some Rockstar/Second Chance books.. This is a newer to me author too.. I was given this book via Netgalley and the publisher for a honest review.
What a heartbreaking beautiful story this was for Frankie and Risk.. They were teenage young love.. On the verge of making it big.. Frankie knows what she needs to do. she needs to let Risk go... he needs to peruse his dreams.. while she stays back to care for her mother who is suffering from Alzheimer’s (I hate this disease BTW.. with my father having the onsets of it.. ) FF 9 yrs.. Risk is back.. Is the Love and passion that they shared prior to him leaving still there? Will Frankie and Risk be able to find their way back to each other..?
I loved this story so very much.. I will def have to check out more from this author.. Thank you for the amazing read.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ So much emotion
Flipping heck! This one packed a punch. It literally got me right in the gut. Caught off guard by my emotions throughout. It dealt with issues dear to my heart and as much as I needed to put the damn kindle down, I couldn’t, I was mesmerised. A second chance, rockstar romance with so much emotion, and not surprisingly, as is the case with me when it comes to LA Casey, I was in tears more than a couple of times. Emotional drama with rock star Risk Keller coming back to his home town and facing Frankie Fulton, his only love, his muse, and the woman who broke his heart. The heartache goes both ways though, and seeing each other after 9 years brings back all the memories, both good and bad. A wonderful story, beautifully written with perfectly imperfect characters that left me needing their happy ending, but with so many obstacles to overcome I wasn’t sure it was possible. A wonderful read. I received an advanced copy of this book. This is my honest review.
Echoes of the Heart is a standalone, second chance Rockstar romance from LA Casey. Frankie and Risk were best friends, who became childhood sweethearts, before their world was torn apart.
Their story is captivating and emotional and heartbreaking, whilst also heartwarming.
Frankie had an unthinkable choice to make, and it completely shattered this pair. Despite their demons, when they reconnect nine years on the connection and chemistry they share is just as intense as it was when they were teens. Whilst their relationship is full of passion it also has it’s fair share of pain.
I was enthralled and fair warning that you will want some Kleenex. I’m a longtime fan of this author’s work and I look forward to LA Casey’s next release.
This was a rare DNF for me, because I don't think it was bad, but it's become pretty apparent that this author's style doesn't work for me. Her books have been hit or miss for me, and this one definitely didn't pull me back in. There are some seriously tired clichés in this second chance romance, and I really can't get behind the whole "I'm a manhoe, but I still love you" trope. There are some great emotional moments in here, but I was underwhelmed and disconnected overall. I felt no desire to finish.
Was this review helpful?
I don’t think i was emotional ready for this book, i went in pretty blind and i am so glad i did. This book had it all and more.
I loved the relationship between Risk and Frankie and how it all started, even though the circumstances on why they started talking was no nice from What risk was dealing with but i loved their instant friendship.
These two had such an intense love for each other and well did this all go up flames but that’s what i loved about this book going through all the motions and finding out what happened. I could just feel so much coming off the pages.
Frankie also didn’t have an easy life and her and her mother and what they go through just broke my heart especially being able to relate so much to their situation.
I absolutely loved everyone in this novel to the main characters to even the side characters this book was just perfection for me and one of my favourite troupes. LA Casey has done an absolute stellar job with this novel and i would have to say it’s one of my favourite 2021 novels and one i will never forget.
This is a must read and i will recommend this book to anyone and everyone
4 Stars for this second chance rockstar romance!
Frankie and Risk were in love when they were teenagers. But when they were 18, Frankie's mom was diagnosed with Alzheimers which changed Frankie's life. Risk has been abused in his foster home since he was five, but he kept it a secret so that he could stay with his friends as they were all he had. Risk and his friends were in a band and when he was 18 they moved to LA for a record deal ... leaving Frankie behind. Frankie broke up with Risk because she didn't want to ruin his chance at fame. After years of drug and alcohol abuse, Risk has been sober for six months when they go back to their hometown to celebrate their music teacher's retirement. He thought he was over Frankie ... he was wrong! She is embedded in his heart. Frankie never stopped loving Risk, but their lives are so different and they are different people ... but the chemistry is still there.
This book is very emotional with Frankie's mom having Alzheimers ...because I have first-hand knowledge about that awful disease. Then there's the sweet romance between Risk and Frankie. I found it very endearing that after all the years they were apart, they still had that instant connection. This book made me laugh a little, cry a lot and swoon in between. It would have gotten more stars, but I just found a few parts where I said to myself "really ... you're doing that because of something so inconsequential". But I love rockstar books, especially ones with a second chance.
This is a second chance rockstar romance.
Frankie and Risk have loved each other since they were 13 years old, it started as friend love and progressed into something so much more. Unfortunately for our young couple, life hit them with some serious obstacles that forced them to be apart, but 9 years later Risk is back home and things get complicated again.
First, I want to say this book totally attacked all my feelings and even made me teary eyed a few times. The love they had for each other was so strong, it build them up when they were together, but also had the power to completely destroyed them when they weren't. Frankie was such a strong character, she was handed heartbreak too many times and she just keep going on with her life; she gave up her soulmate to handle the soul crushing illness that was consuming her mother. Risk, I really wanted to smack this dude for his childish behavior, but his story is just as complicated as Frankie's with some traumatizing experiences thrown in.
I did feel at times the push and pull was a bit much and maybe just thrown in for a bit more drama between our couple. You would think two people who loved each other that much and suffered that kind of heartbreak would at least have a decent conversation about the past to avoid misunderstandings. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case and the miscommunications led to more suffering between Frankie and Risk, but this time it seemed to hurt them more. Thankfully, their friends (aka Risk's band) were able to be there for them and help them.
I would have absolutely loved an epilogue to see how everyone was doing and how their lives turned out especially May, with crazy playboy antics.
Just a warning, this book deals with drugs, child abuse and Alzheimer's disease.
Echoes of The Heart is the first book I’ve read from L.A. Casey. For some reason I thought it would be a romcom and while in some parts this book is funny especially the banter between the Risk and the other members of the group, It is so much more. It’s a tale of first love and second chances. Of doing the right thing even though it breaks your heart. Frankie and Risk met at High School. Risk had a terrible childhood with abusive foster parents while Frankie, despite the loss of her father had always known love. They started off a friends but it was soon obvious to everyone that they were so much more. They were each other’s firsts & if the Gods had been listening they would have been each other’s only. Unfortunately fate had other plans for them. Just as Risk’s music career is about to take off, events involving Frankie’s mother means that she has to make the biggest sacrifice of her life and let Risk go to follow his dreams knowing it will break her heart. When he comes back into her life 10 years later the chemistry and love is still there but will the past stand in their way.
At first glance this story could be a bit of a stereotype. First time loves break up and she stays close to home living only half a life almost as if she’s Sleeping Beauty waiting on her Prince to awaken her with a kiss while the said prince is living the rock star life style with all the obligatory drink, drugs and meaningless sex on tap. When he finally does come home he blames Beauty for his screw ups. What makes this story so much more is the raw emotion the author has managed to imbue into her words. Yes, Risk is a total git for the way he treats Frankie when they first meet again but he’s hurting and lashes out trying to make her feel as bad as he does. He didn’t understand what it cost her to let him go. I cried when I read Frankie’s text messages and was praying Risk would somehow manage to see them. I became invested in these characters and was desperate for them to find some way of being together. This might be the first book I’ve read by this author but if they’re all as good as this one it definitely won’t be the last.
I liked risk I thought he was a decent H, but Frankie.... I adore. She was such an amazing h. If I had to pick sides it would be Frankie all they way. Their chemistry was steaming. Really enjoyed this book.
This is a 2nd chance romance, a quick and easy read by L.A Casey. The blurb sound interesting, unfortunately the story didn't quite grip me. I did kind of lose interested halfway and skimp through some pages. So it is kind of meh but not a total lost. The book might not be for me but it might be for someone else.
Thanks NetGalley for the copy, this is my unbiased review.
This was a very emotional read -it was packed with sadness, despair, deceit, devotion, compassion, love and most importantly forgiveness and hope. My feelings while reading this well paced book ranged from disgust, hate and sadness to love and a feeling of satisfaction. The main characters had an initial antagonistic reunion stemming from past issues of abandonment and addiction which compelled them to analyze their life and seek healthier solutions .I felt really close to and invested in most of the characters who were so well developed that you want to know more about their back story and see them get their happy ever after too. I enjoyed this book immensely and highly recommend it .Thanks Netgalley for this opportunity.
I've always been a huge fan of any book L.A.Casey writes and this book has just taken the top spot. I was hooked from the first page and didn't put it down until I had finished it. It's a beautiful second chance story, where I laughed and cried the whole way through! If you're a fan of contemporary romance, this book needs to be next on your list!
This is why I love L.A. Casey’s books.
I got swept away by this second chance rockstar romance… SIGH 😍
I got completely swept away by the storyline, the characters so much so to the point where I remember telling my friends that I was the apple of the eye for a musician… I got some serious questionable looks from them hahaha
But seriously, if you are in a mood for a wonderful rock star/ musician romance, Echoes of the Heart is it.
I was so into this love story! Frankie and Risk are just right for each other. They genuinely care, they have an attachment to each other that not even time can break. And you can't help but to root for them. It made me feel so much. It was devastating to read how vulnerable these 2 are and at the same time so good hearted but still have so many bad things happenning to them. It was definitely a long journey for them full of loss, abuse, addiction among other things. But this book is not about how they break. It's about how they mend their lives. And it is hard work. There's no denying that.
Okay this book had my least favorite tropes which was a bummer. But then I learned what's in this book. A manwhore rockstar who had drug issues. A spineless boring heroine. Ugh!!!! Nope. Nah. No way am I gonna read this anymore. Although there were pretty emotional moments but I already dislike the lead characters.
Complementary copy given for honest review and opinion from NetGalley.
I really enjoy LA Casey but this book fell flat. I could not get in to it. It seems to not have an emotional aspect that her books usually possess.
I really enjoyed this book! It was a journey and an adventure, I literally couldn't put this book down.
From the first pages I felt like I'm a part of this story, the connection I had felt to these characters was almost overwhelming. I knew this author earlier, so I was sure it will be intense ride, but even that, Echoes Of The Heart was like a first breath of fresh air after very long break.
Higly recommend this title.
This was a very emotional for me second chance romance, emotional because I know the pain of losing a parent to Alzheimer's and you don't wish that on anyone, especially a person of Frankie's age. Having to choose between the love of your life and her Mother is something that no-one should have to do but somehow Frankie found the strength to do that, letting Risk go so he could become a famous rock star.
When Risk and Frankie meet by accident again ten years later, they have got older and wiser but nothing has changed about their feelings they are not complete without each other. Though the heat and the chemistry is still there between them, there are still the same obstacles to overcome before they can have a future together.
As a reader you will become totally engrossed in this story and will probably shed a few tears while reading it as I did. It will break your heart to read how these two young people's lives were ruined by circumstances beyond their control but it will be put back together as their love for each other and determination shines out through the pages as they work towards their HEA. Well written with lots of angst lots of romantic moments and definitely lots of heat!
Echoes of the Heart is all over the place with feels. Happy, sad, mad...Swoony, enraged, and murderous.
I have cried, laughed, and refrained from throwing my e-reader. L.A. Casey makes sure you feel every bump in the road. Every pothole of their life, love, and reality is felt in every part of your heart.
Smile through the pain because this ever after is worth it!
I have a hit or miss relationship with the author’s books and was pleasantly surprised that this one goes in the category of hit parts .
The story is beautiful and hilarious at times as well a sad and demanding and everything you would expect for it to work its way through all the bumpy roads towards that well deserved happily ever after
L.A. Casey has been a favourite of mine for a long time, from the moment i read Dominic.
I absolutely loved this book, second chance romance is one of my favourite tropes and then add is Rockstar it was just amazing.
The push and pull pulled at my heartstrings at times but i trusted L.A. Casey to make it right and make it right she did.
