Description
why does love become abusive? and when does pain become a lesson?
Soft Thorns Vol. II is the continuation of author Bridgett Devoue’s debut poetry collection Soft Thorns and picks up on her journey of self-discovery and seeking answers to the questions all of our souls inevitably ask.
Similar to Vol. I, Soft Thorns Vol. II is a five-chapter collection of long- and short-form poetry accompanied by gorgeous illustrations, this time in collaboration with artist Laura Kline.
Devoue is not known to shy away from the darkest corners of the human experience; in fact, she dives deep into those waters and allows the reader to explore the shared vulnerabilities that all of us face. Her poems touch on topics such as longing, lust, toxic love, self-destruction, confusing breakups, abuse, and overcoming it all through finding light in even the darkest of places.
Devoue’s exploration into these topics is relatable to any human struggling to find peace in life’s turbulent waters. This book won’t give you a life boat, but it will show you how to swim. This is the book for the curious, the dreamers, and the struggler’s, those who carry an insatiable urge to grow and the knowledge that life offers more for the fearless explorers of the unknown; this book speaks to the aching soul that lives in all of us.

I enjoyed this audiobook a lot-:The narrator did an excellent job.
The collection of poetry was relatable and beautifully written; an excellent sequel to the authors first collection.
Looking forward to reading more from Bridgett Devoue.
Wow, i mean WOW. Thank you SO much to the publisher and. Netgalley for giving me the opportunity of reading this amazing poetry book and author! This is the first audiobook i listened here and the most appealing thing was that the author narrated it herself! Such sweet voice, such feelings. I felt overwelmed in a good way and embrassed by it. And most importantly I felt really related, and conected with all this. I recommend it to the entire world.
A wonderful collection of poetry that does justice to the themes such as positivity and empowerment. Each one of them were absolutely clear in their meaningful interpretation. This is my first book from this author but surely it won't be my last. I'm glad I found this through a random poetry search because books like these are meant to cherished. When poems are written in beautiful lyrical language without any offensive words or manipulative elucidation, somehow I feel content reading them. This is the book that I can recommend without any trigger warnings.
“𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘮𝘺 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘭 𝘰𝘯 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘩𝘰𝘱𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘭𝘦 𝘮𝘺 𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘦.”
Let me start my review by telling you that I went into this with doubt, the last book I read filled with poems wasn't a good read. I found out I had nothing to fear after the introduction, Bridgett Devoue just takes your heart and stabs it with words, till your heart bleeds as much as hers. I have never felt the things she did, and yet I can relate to every word ... Every poem... I had to pick one quote (because that is what I do often while writing a review) but I couldn't just pick one quote, I had to pick many because this book is filled with so many beautiful quotes and poems. | Advance Review Copy generously provided by NetGalley.
“𝘐 𝘧𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘪𝘯 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘺𝘰𝘶, 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘳𝘰𝘬𝘦𝘯 … 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘺 𝘣𝘳𝘰𝘬𝘦𝘯.”
Bridgett Devoue puts down her words on paper so carefully, yet her words cut through hearts. Her words are innocent hidden in guilt. Pain mixed with love and lust. Hope combined with rejection. It's like Bridgett Devoue grabs your heart, shaping it, just like your hands would shape a piece of clay.

𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔 𝑰 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆𝒅:
• The cover is just gorgeous and I am loving the title of the book!!!
• Bridgett Devoue reads her poems in the audiobook, this makes the poems she wrote even more thrilling and hurtful (if that is even possible).
• There are so many beautiful quotes and poems in this book! It's hard to read/listen to a poem she wrote in this book and not feel something. Every poem was as beautifully painful as the one before.
“𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘭, 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘢𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘺 𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘴.”

• Nothing.
Ahh this narration came me goosebumps. I felt like Bridgett was talking to my soul.
What a beautiful book of poetry. You will be taken on a journey of love, lust, abuse, heartbreak, and finding yourself again. These poems truly resonated with me. There were so many beautiful ones I felt I could relate to.
The illustrations are absolutely stunning as well. Some that I felt would even make gorgeous tattoos.
Thank you @netgalley for an ARC for my honest review!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A beautiful collection of poetry. I love that the author narrated the audiobook, I think it gave it more weight.
Highly recommended
I have really been enjoying the genre of poetry audiobooks lately. As someone who is going through a rather busy period of time in their life, listening to this audiobook was a chance to stop thinking about everything else and just let the words wash over me.
Audiobooks in general, but especially poetry audiobooks are a very meditative experience for me.
This audiobook just had the author narrating the book without anything additional added to it. I enjoy having the author narrate for the audiobook as it adds a feeling of understanding and immersion to the experience that is harder to experience with a different narrator.
