The fact that the author survived his childhood is a miracle. Even fictionalised, the horrifying account of his treatment, his many near misses and his survival is hard to take in. Without pretence, self pity or resentment, the author draws the reader in completely. A harsh lesson in the impact - good or bad - we all have on each other, Charlie’s Kid offers surprisingly inspirational life lessons. I hope the author has a wonderful life now.
Alive, Helping Others, Speaking out through his Own Pain! Mind-Blowing Book!
If Charlie’s Kid doesn’t resonate with someone either a enabler, a user, or a beater this is a uncommonly sensational book that should touch you in some way some how. This book is truly a work of artistic writing that should be made into a documentary or a movie so that it is available to reach more individuals.
I think the book is stellar and the author captures the essence of a mother who uses her child has a piece of furniture to sell to her boyfriend to use as his punching bag so he doesn’t use that aggression on her. Then to abandon your son to that monster is even more reprehensible..
I could not put this book down! I definitely would recommend this book to anyone!
I received a free advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a very tough book to read. The horror this poor child went through is incredibly awful. The courage to keep surviving and in the end, thriving in his own way, is amazing.
While this book is good, it did seem a bit too long. I feel like it could've been written just as well without some of the less pertinent information.
