ALL PRESIDENTS HAVE NIGHTMARES. THIS ONE IS ABOUT TO COME TRUE.

Matthew Keating, a one-time Navy SEAL and a former US President, has always defended his family as fiercely as he has his country.

Now these defences are under attack. And it's personal.

Keating's teenage daughter, Melanie, has been abducted, turning every parent's deepest fear into a matter of national security.

As the world watches, Keating embarks on a one-man special-ops mission that tests his strengths: as a leader, a warrior, and a father.

Because Keating knows that in order to save Melanie's life he will have to put his own on the line . . .

The Presidents daughter is Mel, only child of Mathew Keating, former US president and navy seal.
Matt has to take matters into his own hands when Mel is kidnapped by a Libyan terrorist. Having no help from his successor in the White House he engages the help of other SEALs and a member of his secret service, plus others who are loyal to him.
Lots of great characters good, bad and downright evil, this book has you on the edge of your seat with its action as Matt and his team start on their mission.
Personally I feel the addition of Bill Clinton’s name is unnecessary and I’m sure the information of the workings of the White House could come from many other sources eg Homeland the tv series etc and be just as ‘authentic’
That said this is an exciting rollercoaster of a page turning read, and I’m sure someone will snatch up the film rights.
My thanks to net galley and publisher for the opportunity to review this book honestly.

If there is one thing this book has reminded me of, it is how much I used to enjoy reading a good old all action thriller. The pacing, the tension, the thought that everything hands on a knife edge and everyone is conspiring against out hero in their aim to achieve a positive outcome. That's exactly what we get with The PResident's Daughter, a tense, action filled political thriller in which former US President Matt Keating faces a race against time to save his daughter from a terrorist who is holding a very personal grudge against him. But it's not just the obvious adversary he has to watch out for - not everyone in the home quarter has his back ...

Talk about your edge of the seat thriller. From the very beginning, in which the authors skilfully set up the background to this most personal of grudge matches and the reason for Keating's fast fall from grace, I found myself hit with the tension and atmosphere I love, and that heart pounding pace and excitement that really drew me into the novel. Although Keating's role in this particular episode is very much back seat, the moments we did spend with him I was drawn instinctively to him as a character. With his chapters told in first person, you get a feel for who Keating really is, a blend of honour, humility and perhaps a touch more honesty than his advisors would like him to display. I liked him. I was happy to spend time in his company. Which is just as well the scene is well and truly set for one hell of a bumpy ride so liking the protagonist is definitely key.

I do like the way in which the characters have been developed in the book. Although a lot of our focus is on Keating, and his point of view or perspective on those around him, there is enough time spent in the company of other key characters to determine who we like - definitely pro SS Operative David Stahl, and Keating's wife Samantha and daughter Mel, without question not in favour of Keating's successor or her closest advisor. Mel was a great character and I think that she was portrayed with just the right amount of intelligence, bravery but also vulnerability to make her an authentic character. It would have been easy to make her too capable, to assured, especially given her circumstances through most of the book, but. for me the balance was just right. Determined, defiant, but still scared. And I loved how Samantha maintained her integrity but. stepped up and played a very canny game when the time came.

The balance between the action and the emotion worked well for me, the authors drawing us right into the heart of the military and rescue operations with a plethora of technical detail which I'm sure is part fact, part fiction - they're not going to give away all of the US security secrets after all. But it was enough to keep the interest there without overwhelming with detail, slowing the pace and therefore the tension. It flowed well, the pacing only dropping when the more emotional scenes play out, but lulling you into relaxing just a fraction too much before the stakes, and the speed, pick up once more. I'll admit that the first third of the book is perhaps a little slower, while the story is established, but once you get into the heart of the novel, I really found myself tearing through it, fully focused and driven by the action on the page. I have the fitness tracker data to prove the impact it had on me.

If you like a top notch, political based action thrillers, then this is definitely one I'd recommend. Yes - some of the story may push the boundaries of what may be believable, but then that's the fun of a great novel. It carries you off and takes you to a place where you just don't care. I cared about the characters, I was completely engrossed in the story and I loved the action and the pace. After studying to American history and politics to degree level, I never really saw myself reading another book written about or by a US President. Just goes to show you - never say never. Loved it.

A terrific pulse-racing thriller.

When Mel Keating, former president's daughter, is kidnapped, Matt Keating, frustrated by the agency's seeming inability to find her, decides to take matters into his own hands.

I was initially cautious about this book, as American politics is not my forte so didn't really know much about Bill Clinton.

However the pairing of he and James Patterson, a formidable writer, is superb. A great story, believable characters and situations, and well written, I couldn't put it down.

Recommended for fans of Ben Hope and Jack Reacher.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this ARC.

I loved this book and everything in it. Just loved it. For me, the authors have wrote a fast paced and very exciting thriller with lots of action which was full of tension and suspense. I really liked the main characters, loved the plot twists and the cliff hanger chapter endings that just made me want to continue reading to see what happened next. I loved the writing style, it was very engaging and captured and held my attention throughout and this was a book I found very hard to put down. I liked that the story was told through the different characters and the last quarter of the book was a very tense and nerve wracking read leading to a nail biting conclusion. There wasn’t anything I didn’t like here, it was exactly my kind of read, and one that really hit the mark for me. I’ve not read the previous book The Presidents missing and will be adding it to my kindle and to be read list.

Thank you to Random House,UK and NetGalley. Absolutely blown away by this latest novel by Bill Clinton and James Patterson. This book does not let up with the action from the first page to the last page. It just keeps you totally gripped, full of twists and turns and OMG that just did not happen moments. Well written and totally gripping. 5 stars all the way.

A second huge story of retribution!
It is fast moving, doesn't avoid disaster and allows the reader to identify with the main characters. I was rooting for the success of the mission while being on tenterhooks that it would all fail. Exactly what is needed in a thriller. I found some of the action unlikely. eg:t the daughters escapes, the immediate acquiescence of previous high ranking operatives. I enjoyed it and relied on the insider author knowledge to increase believability!

Pamela Barnes is the new President having ousted her predecessor Matthew Keating. Matthew takes to his rural retreat with his daughter Mel whilst his wife Sam takes on her dream job as an academic else where. Matt still has his secret service detail led by David Stahl. As we find out in the book Mel has her protection until she turns 16. Waiting in the wings is a terrorist (think Bin Laden ). He kidnaps Mel when she is out with her boyfriend.

What happens next is mind blowing. Like did I really just read that. Matt then finds himself up against the institution and President Barnes. Using his connections and loyal staff he goes on a journey of revenge.

So the combination of the two authors got my interest. What could Bill Clinton bring to the table with this book that would make it different. Goodness me what a book. This is a blistering read. Not for the squeamish. I can safely say it kept me turning the pages. The character development is wonderful. I loved the relationship between Mel and Stahl which comes out in the book.

I will certainly be reading more books by the two authors if they collaborate again. Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this arc

oh my god the calibre of this book is outstanding, its fast paced and has you on the edge of your seat, cant wait for the next one from these authors, its an unlikely pairing but it works

The previous collaboration between the two authors was one of my favorite thrillers ever, and so I was very glad to read this one. Needless to say, this one was even better! A slick dialogue complemented the non stop action in this tour de force.

I was super excited to read this book, not only do I love many James Patterson books, I had read "The President is Missing" when it first came out. I was not expecting this to live up to the expectations or standards of the first novel, I was wrong.

This book is absolutely brilliant, and it's easy to say that this writing team - Bill Clinton and James Patterson - is pure gold when it comes to political thrillers. Bill Clinton lends his expertise as an Ex-President into the writing - explicitly detailed, and presumably very accurate, it is difficult to believe that any other fiction writer would be able to come close to the reality of presidential life.

After losing a second presidential term to his vice-president, all Michael Keating wants to do is sink away quietly, protected by a Secret Service detail. Unfortunately, his enemies (and those of the United States of America) have other plans - targeting his only child, Mel (a 19-year old that has matured out of her security entitlement).

I loved the combination of action hero (ex-Seal Team member) and the lead politician of the USA (the President) in the character of Michael Keating. It really showed how deep family connections are, going to the end of the earth to save someone you love.

I will recommend this to everyone who will listen! I definitely think this is a book I will re-read a few times as well!

This review is completely my own - thank you to NetGalley for gifting me an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

o A kidnapping by terrorists is portrayed in blow by blow detail. The devastated reaction of the ex-President and First Lady are imaginatively detailed. The gripping pace and the obstacles surrounding the race to catch the terrorists are potent. A thriller with all the punch and authenticity expected from the two authors.

Another brilliant read by James Patterson. The beginning is a bit slow while the characters are introduced.but once the presidents daughter is kidnapped the pace increases snd the excitement mounts. There are many unexpected twists and even in the final chapters I wasn’t sure of the ending. This is definitely another best seller and I think it would make a brilliant film

This is another fascinating book joint written with former president Clinton. It is a slow burner with much of the earlier part of the book introducing the diverse characters and providing the political backdrop and machinations which provide authenticity to the story. Once the former president's daughter is kidnapped by a terrorist, the action steadily ramps up with the Chinese in the background and the brutal reality of how politics works behind the scenes adding to the complexities. The final action scenes and the aftermath, which leaves options for further potential storylines keep you reading to the end without pause.

I received this book as an ARC from Netgalley which was good timing because I had just finished the first book. I was slightly disappointed at first because I was expecting it to be a sequel but only a few chapters in I was glad that they had chosen to do different characters. Although the premise is the same, both books being set in and around the White House and presidents, it made this book seem a lot more fresh than it probably would have being a sequel. What I found really interesting about this book was that it was centred around a former president, I've never read anything like that before and it does give an excellent insight into what life is like post the presidency. I'm guessing this is where Bill Clinton being a co-author comes in handy, the little details that most people probably wouldn't consider definitely jump out at you. All in all, I was really impressed with this book, I've read James Patterson books in the past and some I enjoy more than others, this book and The President is Missing definitely rank at the top with my favourites. I found the characters to be really strong in this book, I wasn't so keen on the former first lady, she struck me as slightly selfish but I think thats what makes her seem more real as well. I like how tough Mel was, you can't help but root for her and although slightly unrealistic this book is definitely entertaining and kept me glued to the pages. I'm really hoping that there are more books to come from this series!

Can't fault the detail in this. A bit of a "blokey" book. Fast paced. This is clearly a collaboration that works. Mostly believable. A fan of President Clinton too. Fans may shoot me down but I feel this is more in the Private books line which I enjoy than some of the others. Another one to pack in the suitcase

A thriller which delivers in action and pace. An ex POTUS has his daughter kidnapped by a terrorist adversary who seeks revenge for a raid on his camp which resulted in the death of his wife and daughters. The botched raid was sanctioned by President Matt Keating and in a mea culpa national TV announcement he sealed his fate in the upcoming presidential elections, losing to his Vice President Pamela Barnes. So ex President Matt Keating uses his former contacts to help go after the terrorist who kinapped his daughter and get her back. You can quite imagine the political implications, not to mention launching another raid on foreign soil. However, this time he is leading from the front. It's an all American 'We can do this', 'kick ass' type of thriller but jolly good fun nevertheless.

Short, sharp, exciting, full of atmosphere and twists and turns, this is a compelling and easy read that entertains if not demanding too much from the reader.

The Patterson/Clinton dream team has produced again and this is a better book than "The President in Missing" and is a seamless partnership between two experts in their fields who each contribute fully to what is a sure fire best seller..

What a brilliant read!! Action-packed and fast-paced and it kept me on the edge of my seat! It felt very authentic and I can just see a brilliant action movie in the future.

This story takes us from Libya to America and back. It's the story of a President who manned up to his mistakes but in doing so set in motion his own downfall and fixed a big target on his back for one pissed-off terrorist.
Nearly 2 years after he became the first president to lose re-election against his own vice president, his daughter is kidnapped and the fun begins because Matt Keating is also an ex-Navy seal. One who will do anything to get his daughter back.
Definitely one of my best reads so far this year.

I missed The President is Missing (book 1) but I don't feel that it hampered my enjoyment of this new book. There was certainly enough of the previous book scattered through the storyline that I knew what had happened previously.

I really enjoy a decent thriller that I can sink my teeth into and there is certainly plenty to chew over here. The chapters are short, which made digesting that political babble somewhat easier for me. Especially as being Scottish I only have a vague outline of the US political apparatus but I have a few American friends who kept me on the straight and narrow whenever I got a bit lost.

Keating is perfect as the former President, ousted by his former VP. Now living the life of a civilian (if any ex-President could be labelled as such), he and his family are getting on with their lives. But someone has it in for Michael and they are going after his weak spot - his daughter! But this first kid is not just about to lie down and be the perfect abductee. She will use every tip and trick she soaked up from her Secret Service detail and she is determined she will get back home.

Keating and his trusty secret service agent and few assorted allies are going to take things to the next level. The USA may not negotiate with terrorists and crackpot kidnappers, but Keating and Crew can take a few "shortcuts" through bureaucracy since they are no longer part of the administration. Michael's time in the Teams is sure about to come in handy!

Thoroughly enjoyed my tromp through the quagmire that is politics in the DC arena!

This is the first Patterson and Clinton collaboration that I have read, and after this I will definitely read more.

I thought the story got off to a much slower start than usual for Patterson, however it kicks into action when the President's daughter is kidnapped.

I enjoyed the political aspect to this book, that I presume was brought in by Clinton. At times it felt like it was a mixture of Jack Ryan and Harrison Ford in Air Force One. I can definitely see this book being made into a Hollywood Action Movie.

My advice is don't be put off by the first few chapters, they are there for a reason and you will miss out on an exciting, gripping read.

The President’s Daughter is a scintillating, action-packed standalone action-adventure thriller in which there's a new administration in the White House. But it's the previous First Family who tops an international assassin's hit list. Michael Keating was vice president when the president, Martin Lovering, died of an aortic aneurysm while on a fishing trip. This allowed Keating to accede to the Oval Office and become president. A former Navy SEAL, Keating wants vengeance for sadistic Islamic terrorist Asim Al-Asheed’s torture and slaughter of captured SEAL Boyd Tanner and orders an operation to assassinate him inside his compound in the Libyan mountains. Unfortunately, he survives despite the bombs and bullets directed his way, but his wife and 3 daughters are killed. So, of course, the cycle of revenge starts all over again. At the next election, Keating is succeeded by his Vice President Pamela Barnes. He relocates to rural New Hampshire and has almost pushed the ill-fated military mission to the back of his mind when Al-Asheed abducts Keating’s 19-year-old daughter Melanie. She had been hiking on the Huntsman Trail, which heads towards Mount Rollins, in New Hampshire and the trooper who attended the scene found her ID in a knapsack next to the body of a young man who had been shot to death. Al-Asheed requests three conditions to be met to ensure her safe return: the release of 3 inmates being held in the super-max prison in Florence, Colorado.

A ransom in the amount of $100 million in bitcoin to be paid within the next thirty-six hours and a full pardon from President Pamela Barnes for any crimes he may or may not have committed against Americans in the United States or abroad. But Barnes has never been fond of Keating and Mel's mother, Samantha, doesn't trust her to get her daughter back so Keating must liaise with Danny Cohen of Mossad, Major General Ahmad Bin Nayef of Saudi Arabia's General Intelligence Directorate and the New Hampshire State Police. Officer Corinne Bradford of NH Police is the one to locate where Asim is staying and soon a huge effort is mounted to try and capture him and reunite Mel with her family. This is a compulsive, engrossing and thoroughly entertaining thriller packed with non-stop action, wild twists and turns and more intense and nail-biting drama than you can shake a stick at. It's propulsive and riveting from the very first page as the co-authors drop you right into the middle of the excitement. You need to be able to suspend your disbelief to some extent as some of the plot is a little too serendipitous, but most people know that about Patterson's books, however, Clinton does add some authenticity to it all regarding terrorist and army operations, which I thoroughly appreciated. It's a fun and absorbing read, and I love that these thrillers can be enjoyed by anyone as they provide all the necessary thrills but aren't demanding in terms of brainpower.

Thankyou to #netgalley for the advanced copy to read
Wow!! What a book it’s a rollercoaster from the start first the politics inside the White House which I assume are courtesy of Mr Clinton, they are fantastic reading. So involved down to knowing the secret service would have briefed his daughter, more later.
We all knew they had nicknames for POTUS and family but didn’t realise protection carries on after office except for the children. And that is where ex president Matt Keating is failed years before he apologised for a failed mission in which a terrorists family were killed and he lost the re-election over it ,that terrorist is coming for his daughter now
A terrible day when Matt is told there have been threats made against his family buried in the new White House bureaucracy by then Mel has been kidnapped and they have no idea were she is and they know that the new administration will not pay any ransom or meet any demands
So will his daughter die?

Patterson and Clinton are back together again with The President's Daughter.
Patterson brings the whole story together as only he knows how and Clinton brings the honest account of being a former President.
When Mathew Keating leaves his Presidential house behind him he hope's that life with his family could start to resemble some sort of normality. But little did the former Navy Seal and President expect what comes next.
Melanie, Mathews daughter has been abducted and has turned into a matter of national security but Mathew will stop at nothing to find his daughter even if it means losing his own life.

Absolutely gripping! I became hooked into this book very quickly and was so invested in the outcome. Brilliant

Matthew Keating wanted to serve a second term as POTUS, but his mission against one of the evilest terrorists went disastrously wrong and cost him the presidency. Now, he is doing more or less nothing apart from fishing and not so much enjoying himself. When his daughter Mel is abducted by IS terrorist Asim Al-Asheed who wants to revenge his wife and daughters, ex SEAL Matt takes it personal. Since the official agencies totally fail to rescue the girl, he decides to become active himself to get her back. He is still well-connected and secretly sets up a small team to do what a father has to do.

The second cooperation between former President Bill Clinton and well-known crime writer James Patterson is a fast-paced mixture of political and spy thriller which also gives deep insight in how the different national agencies work with and against each other. The thriller brilliantly shows that politics can be a nasty business where personal agendas at times conflict with national interests and ethics. Also, since the end of the Cold War, the lines between confronting enemies have become blurred and the world is a much more complex place with several stakeholders all acting and interfering simultaneously.

First and foremost, the novel lives on the protagonist Matt Keating who tries to free his daughter. Even though we first meet him in the role of the president, his former occupation as a member of the US SEALs is a much more formative aspect of his character. When he learns of is successor’s unwillingness of helping to liberate his daughter, he reactivates his knowledge and connections to rescue her on his own. Admittedly, I doubt how realistic this might be, however, it certainly makes a good action-loaded plot. The daughter, too, is a tough cookie, even though raised in a rather comfortable position, she is courageous and has a strong will to survive which gives her more power than was to be expected.

What I found most interesting, however, was not just the war between the terrorist and the USA but how China meddles and how conflicting interests endanger civilians which are nothing more than collateral damage. Ironically, it is a private affair that leads to the downfall of the current president – highly likely in our times.

Great entertainment which surely also works quite well on the screen since it incorporates the core virtues of bravery, persistence, teamwork and love.

My only regret is not reading the first one - I didn't know this was follow up but I didn't feel like I was missing any information. Can't wait to go read that now!

Ex presidents daughter is kidnapped by a terrorist. The book covers the presidents, the presidents wife, the daughters and the terrorists point of view. along with a brief insight to the security teams too.

The President's Daughter by Bill Clinton and James Patterson

There is a new administration in the White House. Matt Keating, ex-President, ex-Navy Seal, has retired to New Hampshire, while the former First Lady Sam has taken up an academic post. Their daughter Mel is flourishing away from the public eye, old enough now to have had her security shadows removed. But Keating is about to learn that a President is always a President and now, away from the protection of the White House, he is more vulnerable than ever and, more to the point, so is his family. This is brought home in terrifying fashion when Mel, out on a camping trip with her boyfriend, is kidnapped and, when the demands come in, Keating has no choice but to put his faith in his political rival, the new President, once his former Vice President, Pamela Barnes. But, as Matt and Sam grow increasingly desperate, perhaps the former President has options after all.

I can’t believe it’s three years since the last collaboration between Clinton and Patterson was published, The President is Missing. Time has flow by. But I remember vividly just how much I enjoyed it and I am so pleased to see another novel by this duo who marry together thriller expertise and presidential insight perfectly. We have a different President, a different situation, but The President’s Daughter is every bit as thrilling as its predecessor. I read it as soon as I could and also listened to the audio review copy. And that is staggeringly good. There’s money and influence behind this project and that shows in the quality of the audiobook and its cast.

I am a massive fan of action thrillers, especially those with a hint of politics about them and so The President’s Daughter could have been written for me. I’ve found James Patterson’s thrillers a bit hit and miss over the years but the collaboration brings a depth, authenticity and focus that, in my opinion, is very successful.

It’s a great story, very punchy and told through short chapters that alternate perspectives, including those of Keating, Mel, President Barnes, foreign agents, villains. It moves fast for such a substantial novel and we get close to several characters. I particularly liked Mel, who is in such a horrendous situation and deals with it as best as she can. She has coping mechanisms taught to her by her father’s security chief, David, who is himself one of my favourite characters in the novel. It’s not a complicated plot but it is a thrilling one and it is driven. And there are moments of out and out shock. Blimey…..

It is fascinating watching the relationship between Keating, the new President and her husband, her chief of staff. While the plot isn’t complex the relationships are and the benefit of Bill Clinton’s input here is invaluable. He knows what it’s like to leave the White House and what it’s like to be that strangest of political beings – a former President who still remains a President for the rest of his life. What does that mean? This novel explores that.

I can recommend the audiobook, which has a number of narrators and really adds to the pace and immediacy of the plot, which crosses borders and packs quite a punch. A couple of blows had me in tears, they were that powerful. I really, really hope that there is more to come from Clinton and Patterson, and soon.

I’ve not read the previous book The President is Missing but that didn’t detract from my enjoyment of this book. I will now be adding The President is Missing to my TBR pile though!
The President’s daughter is Mel, only child of Mathew Keating, former US president and navy seal. Matt has to take matters into his own hands when Mel is kidnapped by a Libyan terrorist. Having no help from his successor in the White House he engages the help of other SEALs and a member of his secret service, plus others who are loyal to him. Matt then finds himself up against the institution and President Barnes. Using his connections and loyal staff he goes on a journey of revenge.
