Description
Like most private investigators, Tracey Marks is just trying to pay off the mountain of bills that never seem to stop. So when a client hands her $5000 to find his missing wife, she jumps at the opportunity. Although it’s her first missing-persons case, she really does need the money and charges ahead into the investigation.
But things quickly go sideways, and the more answers she gets, the more questions that arise. Everyone seems to be holding back, or even outright lying…and even the missing woman has a sketchy past. As Tracey digs in deeper and deeper, she finds herself drawn into a web of deceit. With warning signs everywhere, will Tracey even live long enough to cash the check?

Good book! This book had intrigue, suspense, drama, and a decent storyline! There were definitely some twists and turns , I definitely recommend reading this book! Its well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
An enjoyable mystery with Tracey Marks as a struggling private investigator. When she is offered a large amount of money to find a missing person the tension starts to build. A twisting suspense to keep the reader on their toes. With a well developed cast of characters, this is a slow burn and a gradual mounting of tension leading to some, perhaps, surprising revelations. A thoroughly engaging read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A good start for a new mystery series. It kept me hooked and I found it entertaining.
Good plot development, solid mystery full of twists and turns, interesting characters.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
A big thank you to Netgalley for offering a digital copy of this amazing book.
Finally , A female author who herself is PI gives a thrilling mystery with a female lead who is not broiled in her own traumas, dependent on others and need self assurance to survive. Tracey Marks is a character I would love to have for female protagonist to some extent. She has flaws but she is brilliant.
The book starts with a case of dissapperance of a woman named Laura given to an in-experienced PI Tracey Marks. Tracey is young, single, hardworking and honest girl. I was so engrossed in book that I was pulled together with Tracey in finding Laura. Being inexperienced in missing cases the graph of Tracey takes a wonderful growth.
Laura is the woman in question who is missing yet it’s just not a name, we live through Laura’s life and her ordeal. This is a fast paced book filled with twists and turns. Ellen has written this book very well, it’s easy to follow all the characters and line of story. The ending of the book is unforeseen.
It’s a highly recommended book for PI’s fan or even for those who want to try some crime mystery.
I am looking forward to Ellen Shapiro’s next in this series.
Heavy on details, good twist at the end, interesting story. Sam's wife has disappears. He hires a PI to find answers when the police don't do any investigating. This is her first missing person case so she goes all in to find out what happened to Laura. I enjoyed the book.
Looking for Laura is a very well written suspense book. A great plot with good character dynamics. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys suspense and intrigue.
I thought that the book, was such a page turner. A great read. I felt like I was part of the story. I loved the book. The plot was very well written and I cannot wait to read another book by this author.
This was a smooth read, quick, simple and easy. Though our main character would beg to differ for it being her first missing persons case, I flew through the pages rapidly, eager to see how Tracy would solve the mystery. I’m pleased to say that I liked this one, with it being written by a woman who was a private eye herself, this was a new favorite, with plenty of mystery, action, and a lot of fun.
As a cozy mystery fan, I felt that this was well handled. I enjoyed the atmospheric writing, and the suspenseful buildup was great too. Tracy was a real, likable character, and I’m happy to add that there’s a sequel called Secrets Can Kill, that I definitely hope to snag. The mystery wrapped up nicely and I have a new favorite author to stalk. Highly recommend for fans of cozy mysteries.
Smooth read that had you hooked from the off. The book was very well written. Great plot. Very exciting. Fast paced to get your heart racing. Loved this book
