Description

"Mazey Eddings’s writing is authentic, emotional, and intensely romantic! To me, it’s like a Taylor Swift song in book form." - New York Times bestselling author Ali Hazelwood

"An unbelievably cute and funny debut about friendship, the expectations of family, and mental health. A Brush with Love fills that itch for a STEMinist rom-com with laughter, slow-burn romance, and toothy puns." - Buzzfeed

Nine out of ten dentists agree, Mazey Eddings's rom-com A Brush with Love makes your smile brighter!*

*not scientifically proven

Harper is anxiously awaiting placement into a top oral surgery residency program when she crashes (literally) into Dan. Harper would rather endure a Novocaine-free root canal than face any distractions, even one this adorable. A first-year dental student with a family legacy to contend with, Dan doesn’t have the same passion for pulling teeth that Harper does. Though he finds himself falling for her, he is willing to play by Harper’s rules. So with the greatest of intentions and the poorest of follow-throughs, the two set out to be “just friends.” But as they get to know each other better, Harper fears that trading fillings for feelings may make her lose control and can't risk her carefully ordered life coming undone, no matter how drool-worthy Dan is.

Blood, gore, and extra-long roots? No problem. The idea of falling in love? Torture.

Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I fell hopelessly in love with this sweet, intense love story between two imperfect people who found love and redemption in each other. I really enjoyed how the author slowly builds this unique friendship between Haper and Dan who meet kind of awkwardly at dentristy school. My heart bled for Harper as she battles to hide her crippling anxiety from Dan who cannot understand her constant push back and denial of their budding romantic feelings but he feels such a connection to her that he patiently waits and goes at her pace.
I really appreciated that he does not push his sexual needs onto her and for the most part respects the boundaries she's set. I was torn by Harper's callous regard for Dan's feelings at the end but relieved that she gets the help she desperately needed and loved prevailes. Dan's unshakable believe in her success and his constant support makes him a hero in my book. The world needs more men like him.
The author's writing is outstanding! I felt each of their explosive emotions and the sexual tension was scorching. I can only imagine what it must be like to want someone so much you crave their touch no matter how small.

Anxiety-ridden Harper is so close to being placed into her dream residency for oral surgery, and has thus far avoided any distractions from said dream. Until she runs into (really crashes) another dental school student, Dan, and he becomes that distraction.

I really loved this book. I could super relate to Harper's desire to have a perfect school record and her inability to fully embrace her mental illness. Dan was a really well-written character, filled with his own personal problems to contend with that made him more than just a one-dimensional distraction for Harper. Harper's friends were some of my favorites, too.

The story, the characters, all together made for a really wonderful book!!

🦷 A Brush With Love by Mazey Eddings Book Review 🦷
Out March 1, 2022
Preorder this thing N O W.

Cool cool cool. I finished A Brush With Love by Mazey Eddings, and HA OMG. She really got me with this one. First and foremost, I am so stinkin’ proud of Mazey. This book was freaking ADORABLE.

Dan and Harper are the cutest. They meet in Dental School, were Harper is somewhat of a legend. Super studious and wants to come out on top. Harper literally slams into Dan upon their first meeting (the cutest meetcute) Harper stutters her way through the conversation, like she’s 13 and Dan is the hot 14 year old in the grade above her. I loved them both from the moment I met them. Dan and his “shameless freaking dimple” were my absolute favorite.

I definitely related to Harper more. Harper is anxious. Her anxiety a living thing under her skin, vibrating and keeping her blood flowing. She compares her anxiety to a Honey Mushroom, which has a root system that spreads over three miles. If she’s not anxious she doesn’t feel alive. I feel that with the very depth of my soul.

Listen, do you love hotties? Cats? Cute lil romcoms by cute lil people? Crazy friend groups? A book that, if you deal with anxiety will literally SEE INTO YOUR SOUL? Then yeah baby, this is the book for you.

What a beautiful story.

I've been seeing this book around the bookstagram a lot recently and now that I've read it and witnessed it in all its glory, I completely understand why. I loved this story. It was a kind of love at first sight kind of relationship that I don't see much of anymore but desperately want to see because it's just so very cute! This whole book was just a ball of cuteness with the best humor and dentist puns! Also, Dan? Ultimate boyfriend material if you ask me!

I love seeing different representations in books, and this book featured Harper that was neurodiverse. In the dedication (that almost brought me to tears), the author spoke about how you're not alone and that your mental illness doesn't define you, and I thought that was beautiful. It's so important to have these kinds of representations, whether it be in a romance novel or any other genre, that getting help is ok and that you're not alone.

I love the whole dental school aspect of this book. You can see and feel the pressure students go through in university and college, how much disappointment can effect them and how important it is to them. Being in University right now, going into my last year of undergraduate, I feel the pressure. It's books like this that brighten up my day, put a smile on my face, and help me through the tough times.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the earc in return for an honest review.

I DEVOURED THIS BOOK! It took me only 24 hours to read because I could NOT put it down. What an amazing ride this was. Without giving away too much information, this book was really just.... *chef's kiss.* Our main girl suffers from extreme social anxiety, and I adored how the offer really made this known from tiny, little snippets. Like wringing her hands together, tapping a finger, unable to look people in the eyes, withdrawing, and immediately removing herself from situations that may cause her emotional embarrassment. It was clear that the author knew what she was writing about and I loved that. It made Harper that much more real.

And Dan, oh Dan. I love Dan. He was so dorky and cute to begin with and he's just so full of... baggage. It makes for an emotional ride. AND CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE SCENE WITH JUDY THE CAT? MY FAVE!

This book is definitely going on my perma-shelf and I will be recommending to everyone I know who loves a good romance-comedy-drama. The writing was fabulous. The story was stellar. And I really, truly, cannot wait for more from this author.

THANK YOU TO THE PUBLISHER AND NETGALLEY FOR A FREE E-COPY OF THIS BOOK IN EXCHANGE FOR MY HONEST REVIEW!

This book is spectacular. I loved this romance between Harper and Dan because there was so much more to the story than just falling in love. Harper struggles with extreme anxiety and panic attacks - both of which are detailed in the book. I could relate to some of her feelings, and I felt the author handled this topic accurately and with sensitivity. Dan struggled with guilt and shame, which is also explored.
I loved the setting. I can't say I've ever read a book set in dental school, and it was so interesting. I enjoyed this deeper look into the profession, including looking at the racism and privilege that exists in this field.
The friends are great. I just loved Thu. I think everyone needs friends like her and Alex among with the rest. I can't wait to read her next books.

Did I just love and laugh at a book about dentistry? Okay, I totally did. I never thought I’d enjoy a book about dentists or dental students but A Brush With Love is a gem. The dialogue is terrific and witty. It’s full of heart and charming characters. I loved it! I really enjoyed Harper and Dan. Their friendship was sweet and honest, but full of insane chemistry. Honestly, I didn’t want this book to end!

I received an ARC of this novel from St. Martin's Press through Netgalley. I have reviewed a lot of books and read way more than I have reviewed, but I have never reached out to an author after reading a book and I did with this story. It was terrific! I immediately wanted to tell all my friends about it, but it isn't released until March! Arrgh! So instead I will tell all of these book review readers about it.
It is the story of Harper, who is in her last year of dental school with aspirations of becoming a dental surgeon and Dan, a first year dental student with aspirations of becoming a corporate executive instead of a dentist. It would be easy to say it is a "quick read" or a "beach read" but this story is so much more than that. Harper is neurodiverse-a new term for me-which means she lives with anxiety-and other challenges that shape who she is and how she navigates relationships-often by pushing people away so they don't see how much she is impacted by her neurodiversity. Dan only sees a smart, driven and successful person he wants to be with all the time. Harper is trying her best to not really let him see the real her, for fear he couldn't love her if she wasn't the "perfect" person she was trying to become. Dan also struggles with his past and the legacy of who he is and what he needs to do -vs- what he wants to do.
What I loved, loved, loved about this novel was how the author shared this beautiful love story in a way that is unapologetic and free from making anxiety the central focus. Certainly Harper has anxiety-but she isn't anxiety-know what I mean? Mazey Eddings showed that ALL people are deserving of love and ALL people come with a past and present challenges which can make finding love a struggle, but there is a matching puzzle piece for everyone if you want to find it badly enough. This is beyond 5 stars! I will be first in line to see what Ms. Eddings writes next!

This was soooooo good. It's a literally Rollercoaster of emotions- one second you're laughing, the next you have tears streaming down your face. Mazey did an amazing job of making all of the characters so loveable. They're so real and the fact that they're dealing with things like anxiety and guilt make them so dang relatable. I absolutely loved this. I cannot wait until it comes out so I can start recommending it in store... psst... I already have!

I loved Harper and Dan together. They both had to make some changes and did so in a realistic way. While it covered some serious mental health topics, it was still a light and easy read.

This was such a lovely book, cute and charming and full of delightful banter, while at the same time offering great representation of anxiety. Dan was such a wonderful romance hero, so considerate and swoon-worthy. Harper was a multi-faceted heroine of the kind I love to see. I felt honoured to read an ARC of this book and so very much look forward to what Mazey Eddings writes next!

Thank you NetGalley and St Martins for the opportunity to read.
