Best selling author Scott Atwood is facing the end of his career. He hasn’t written a word for months, he’s lied to his long suffering agent about his “progress” on his new novel, his problem drinking has escalated and, finally, his wife has left him. He decides that suicide is his only answer and by throwing himself under the wheels of a train, he’ll get one more publicity buzz. So he prepares. Standing on the edge of the train platform, watching the oncoming train, waiting…but stop! He has an idea and it is genius.

At home, he begins a novel, a novel about his neighborhood which would not be interesting except for some observations he has made about certain neighbors. Can he turn those observations into a thriller? How? And what could go wrong?

That’s all I’m going to say about The Perfect Ending. I could not put it down. It’s suspenseful, exciting and creative. Rob Kaufman has turned a totally unique idea into a must read. 5 stars

This book had me from start to finish. So many twists and turns and such empathy for the main character and his bad luck until he gets an idea for a book that is so twisted and insane. Just wow, I could not put this down! Just when I thought I had this figured out, another twist.

A highly recommended thriller!

This was a compelling and thoroughly enjoyable read from start to finish with a great storyline, interesting cast of characters and all capped off by skilful writing. It's well worth your time if you appreciate great storytellers.

A best-selling, Edgar winning thriller author named Scott has a problem. He has writer’s block and is extremely late delivering his newest book to his publisher. Eventually, Scott decides to kill himself. But he needs to find The Perfect Ending to his life first. It has to be radical enough of a conclusion that people will talk about it long after his funeral.

When his plan to die fails, he comes up with a new plan to get a plot for his book. He will create havoc in his neighbors’ lives. First up, he tells his hot-headed neighbor to go home at the same time the neighbor’s wife is having her weekly lay-in with her side piece. Unfortunately, Scott doesn’t stop there.

I enjoyed this unusual plot! I’ve read several books where the characters come to life. This is the first book I’ve read where real people become characters. The writing style was fluid and compelling. I read the entire book in one sitting. And, of course, it really had The Perfect Ending. 5 stars and a favorite!

If anyone has ever had an issue when writing or even coming up with a business proposal. This book is for you! This book got me in the first chapter. It brings into focus our decisions we make and how they can affect those around us. Even if you may not know someone at all, just know who they are. Decisions have a ripple affect to those who are around our decisions when we make them. Loved this story and I will be getting my hands on his other books to read.

To say that reading this book became addictive is a huge understatement. I would stupidly pick the book up only intending to read a couple of chapters to fill in the odd half hour but I would become so wrapped up in the story that I would still be sat there well over an hour and several chapters later. Loved the twists never saw it coming!

Fantastic! Dark and fast paced, this book has all the ingredients of a great movie…. Reminiscent of some early Stephen King concepts (and what a compliment that is) the author brings together a compelling plot with a fascinating main character. It’s well written, does not try to be more than it is and I really hope there is more to come from this author.

This one goes in the What The Fiction? Pile… it was awesome and twisted and unique. A unique thriller!!! They are so hard to come by nowadays! It will actually keep you guessing, not just tell you it will and then send a standard formula your way.
Scott Atwood is a famous writer, feverishly stuck in an eight month writers drought. With his agent breathing down his neck he has to find a new story NOW or find a spectacular way to go out on a high. He takes himself to the train station as a sort of literary ultimatum; write the next best seller or jump in front of a train.
And it occurs to him that there are stories all around him, they just need a little tweak here, a little shove there and suddenly; he’s stumbled onto the idea of messing him with his neighbours in order to create a story.
Unlikeable protagonists aren’t my thing and I hated this guy from the get go. But the story! The story is just fantastic. Twisted, dark and ultimately a real puzzler. It sort of put me in mind of Stephen King’s Secret Window. I loved it; I finished it in half a day; I’m looking for a hard copy to add to my bookish collection.

This dark and fast paced book I couldn't have enjoyed a book more and than I did this one!
The writing was surprisingly done so well, it had me hooked from the start.
I loved the characters and story-line and I was guessing right up until the end. Full of wonderful brilliant characters.
Looking for a book that will have wanting more.... Read this one!

The Perfect Ending by Rob Kaufman was a great book to read and did in fact have the perfect ending. I loved this book, it's witty, a little crazy, and a lot of fun. Highly recommend and thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an advance copy.

This is a quick but great read. I could tell very early on that this book would keep my attention. The story is dark, twisty and well written. Around the half way mark I became fairly confident I knew how this book would wrap up but the ending definitely isn't an obvious one. I think I'm just getting better at seeing the finer details. Even so, there were some aspects of the ending that caught me by surprise. I definitely think the plot played out well. There are a few questionable details in the last few chapters that I'm trying not to spend too much thinking about but that's such a minor part. I can say for sure I enjoyed this book.

This was a Read Now on Netgalley and sounded interesting even though the last thing I needed was another book to read. It was a good choice on my part and I really enjoyed it. I think it answers that age-old question of where authors get their ideas! Best-selling author Scott Atwood is suffering from writer's block and, after considering and rejecting plans to end his life, he decides to create some drama in his own neighbourhood to form the basis for his next book. Like dominoes, one thing leads to another and then .... well, you'll have to read it for yourself.

Very cleverly written with unusual but not very likeable characters, it was a pretty quick read. The ending surprised me but it wrapped up the book nicely. I recommend this book and I'll definitely read some of Mr. Kaufman's other novels.

Straightaway i knew this was going to be a great book, i really liked enjoyed this and thought the book was well written, it is neither too fast paced nor slow either which either i don't mind in books. The characters were amazing and well written. I enjoyed this from start to finish, i wasn't able to put it down once i had started. Very tense, creative and has you feeling the edge of your seat feeling which i really like. Would highly recommend to fellow book readers, family and/or friends.

Suicide is the only possible remedy. However, Scott is determined that his death should be spectacular enough that people will remember it long after his funeral has concluded. Then, almost at the very moment of his planned demise, Scott has a brilliant idea for his next novel – sure to be a best seller.

The Perfect Ending is a story of a writer and how he concocts the plot for a new book. The writing is clever and the characters are well-drawn. Some you will like and sympathize with, and other characters not so much. And, the ending can only be described as…well…perfect! This is a quick read that will entertain as well as confound. I enjoyed The Perfect Ending and recommend it.

I adore Rob Kaufman's books so I was excited for his latest one! And it's pretty "perfect"! Scott is in a dark place, unable to come up with a plot for his next novel; in fact he's so distraught he decides to end his own life by throwing himself in front of a train. But at the last moment, he conceives a brilliant idea with well-fleshed-out characters and a solid plot that is sure to please his readers. And this one comes with an ending that will have you gasping as you didn't see that coming! This one is a must-read for sure!

Oh my gosh. What a book!

Scott Atwood, a famous mystery and thriller author is running out of ideas. He hasn’t had any new ideas for a story in almost a year. Because of this, Scott decides he’s going to end it all. But before he does, he finally gets a stroke of genius.

Scott begins to write a story about an author who causes chaos in order to find inspiration for a book. Which is exactly what Scott begins to do in his life. He causes a lot of harmful things to happen to the people around him. But will this story actually pan out for him? Or is Scott getting in over his head.

Okay, so I finished this book in one sitting (literally, 3 hours). It was such a wild and fast read! The drama and the mystery of it all was just so crazy. I hated Scott but I had to know how it ended. And boy, did it end.

I can’t say much because spoilers for this book would be the worst but until the page before, I did NOT see the ending coming! I was so surprised. Such a insane and fast paced read!

This novella is something like a Twilite Zone episode. A celebrated author with writer's block decides to become the neighborhood voyeur to find plot ideas, then decides to manipulate the people as if they are characters in his book. This book is filled with the ultimate in mind games and angst. I received this ARC book for free from Net Galley and this is my honest review.

After writing successful mystery-thriller novels, Scott Atwood, a very popular writer, had a writers block when he wanted to write his next novel. But he was on a deadline and time crunch. So, he came up with the idea of causing havoc in his neighbors lives to get a storyline for his next novel. But did he go too far while causing havoc? Did he eventually get the storyline he was looking for? For this you will have to read the book.

🤔🤔My thoughts: This story was a very quick read. Talk of good editing, this book can definitely win that prize. It was dark, twisty and full of surprises, especially the ending. There are several characters in the book and the chapters are cleverly written. It also justifies the reason for their action that they took in the story. But one thing kept me hanging that this whole premise was built on Scott Atwood’s interest in causing havoc in his neighbors life. Can someone go to such extremes to cause havoc in others life to get his storyline? Maybe yes 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️. This book also tells you how mental torture is dangerous and it’s imperative to make mental health a priority. What a fantastic book. Expertly crafted, Full of surprises, twists and turns and an unexpected ending. Recommended.

Scott Atwood, a famous award-winning author, is just short of loathsome. This is the main character? I didn’t like him from the beginning. He’s hit the wall with the famous writer’s block for months. His agent, his publisher is breathing down his neck. He’s promised them another bestseller and can’t figure out anything to write about and is missing deadlines. He needs something spectacular. Unique.

One last ditch effort: he’ll take his laptop to the train station. Write his next book or jump in front of a train. Perfect ending in view of those thrillers he’s written. Nothing mundane for him.

Then he sees something that sparks an idea. It’s brilliant! He’s thrilled. And with a little encouragement, a slight push, he can force the story from his neighbors and watch them as they literally unfold his new bestselling thriller in front of him.

This is one that fires the imagination from the get-go. Hook, line, and you must finish the book. Can he really create this much misery? This much havoc? His neighbors all have stories and he paints them in full color realism. My heart ached for Brad, weeped for Joel. They are so well-fleshed and you believe it all.

It’s dark, delightfully deceiving, and emotionally wringing. The author tweaks his main character with just a slight amount of humor and moral justification. It’s so wrong. Twisted mystery, suspense. I released more than one audible groan…omg. This one is a must read.

How far would you go to get the perfect ending?

Scott isn’t a likeable character but he’s fully fleshed out, dark, real. Frustrated and giving himself one last chance he makes a decision and then what happens.....

This book really had me from start to finish. This is the first I’ve read of Rob Kaufman’s work, and most certainly won’t be the last! I love a book with a good twist, let alone several. Lately I haven’t been giving many books over a 3.5 star rating and after reading the first two chapters of this b00k, I was debating on whether I was even going to be able to finish it but it started getting interesting, really interesting. I wanted to know more secrets about the people in the neighborhood and how Scott Atwood was going to incorporate them into the finished product without blowing his cover or if he was even going to be able to finish the book without his guilt manifesting as a heart attack or stroke. As I was getting closer and closer to finishing and the book hadn’t started to wrap up, I was getting worried but then the last chapter literally blew my mind and had me saying “Oh My Word!” loud, This was the first book that left me with that reaction in a long time. I really have no criticism for the book. I really, really enjoyed it.

This is the second book that I have read by this author and he sure didn't disappoint. The book kept me just wanting to read more to find out what will happen next. Reminded me a little of another author that wrote a book that the character had writer's block but this book was much better. Dark and twisty but not over the top. Book got my attention by the middle of second chapter. This book is sure to be a reread on my part.

What if Scott places an anonymous call to the husband and tell him he needs to go home pronto. And what will happen when the husband walks in on his wife and her friend?

The lines between fiction and reality are separated by a very fine line. Has Scott found his perfect ending?

The concept is unique, the plot is well-written, the story line unusual. The characters are deftly drawn, however, Scott was not at all likable. This is a real-turner, full of twists and turns that lead to a decidedly unexpected ending.
