Description
In this thoughtful debut, Julie Morrison explores what happens when you take a leap into the unknown and land in a saddle.
The northern Arizona ranch owned by her family is on the brink of bankruptcy. While fighting for its future, she simultaneously seeks to salvage her marriage and rediscover her best self.
When you ride across the rock-strewn terrain of a family-owned horse and cattle business though, a gritty challenge awaits along the trail to every panoramic view. Entangled in the barbs of ranching and relationships, Julie meets cold-hearted cowboys and funny farriers, learns how to ranch one-handed, and becomes an expert in assessing what’s essential. This is a love story in which the objects of devotion are the hard-working horses and iconic western vistas that finally harmonize into a new landscape of hope.

Advance Praise
"In language alternately gritty and gossamer, first-time author Julie Morrison puts us in her boots. As a bewildered would-be ranch woman, Morrison walks us over rocky fields and through emotional firestorms, her bravery in lockstep with her vulnerability.
"Her journey is a fascinating mix of filaments both fragile and tough as leather. The images are by turns sobering, amusing, and then soaring aloft; her language is so fresh and unexpected that it’s like being in her brain as the thoughts unfold.
"Anyone who is interested in horses, Arizona, or life will find themselves gulping this down."
