A hearty mix of gift book and something more suited to early reader geography shelves in the school library. It pays tribute at the beginning and end to the figure of the grandma, with the pages in between touching on different grans from different corners of the world, from Aruba to Afghanistan. We get what they're called, how to address them with respect, and a little about what spending time with them would be like. This following is generally excessively stereotyped – the Russian babushka will make tea and challenge you to chess, the Dutch one will be on her bicycle non-stop, and so on – but it's only intended to give a little flavour of the typical woman it looks at. I'm giving this a high rating as an indication of its production values, and not from me knowing what target audience this really has and what success it will have with it – I'm sure schools cannot afford such books about every family member, and surely the biggest tribute to a gran is to spend time with one, either with this volume or without.
I love, love, love this series from the publishing team.
I loved the one on moms.
I am so glad to read this beautiful one on grandmas!
The illustrations are awesome. And yes, this collection will make you think of your grandmoms the moment you start reading it.
I am so lucky to have had the love of my grandmothers and grandparent like figures.
You will get to learn about new culture and new words as well!
Thank you, author/artist and the publisher, for the advance reading copy.
A lovely celebration of grandmothers all over the world! The variety of different countries depicted was wide and interesting. It would be a great lesson for kids to talk about how much is the same and how much is different. This is a very relatable way for kids to learn about other cultures and values. The illustrations were very colorful and will hold attention well! Because of the density of information presented, this would be best as a small-group or one-on-one read so conversations can be inspired by the pictures.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
Really cute book, I loved it ! This book showcases in a pleasant way appreciation for grandmas ( which are important members of most families) all around the world ! New information is provided in a fun, simple way and it’s pretty diverse. It’s perfect for young kids, but truly, for anyone that’s interested in learning about different traditions !
This book is lovely and cute as well as informative. It's a very basic overview of different words for "Grandma" in different languages and some of the more unique customs from the countries those languages are found in. The pictures are colourful and fun. I appreciate that the book contains phonetic spellings of the words from the different languages.
My one complaint would be that the "found in x country" statements feel off. These are words from different languages and customs from different countries, but these different Grandmas are found all over the world. This book could literally be repackaged as a book about different Canadian Grandmas and still be entirely accurate. I appreciate what is being aimed for but I wish there were a way to not make it seem like these Grandmas and the cultures they come from are something 'other' or 'exotic' and belonging somewhere else. I live in a small North American town with less than 100k people and I know every one of these grandmothers live here. I wish there were a reflection of that in this otherwise sweet book.
This is a lovely look at different cultures and ways to greet a grandma. I really liked the illustrations and the different words in other languages.
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC!
I absolutely LOVED this book! All of the different types of Grandma's represented and the different cultures. The graphics are stunning and I really liked the pronunciation guide underneath each grandmother. This book is beautiful and I will def buy for my mom and daughter!
I received an electronic ARC from Quarto Publishing Group – Wide Eyed Editions through NetGalley.
A lovely gift for grandmothers. Bhatt takes readers around the world to introduce them to grandmas in each country. Readers learn their titles and how they interact with families. We see how they are different and also alike. Terrific for compare and contrast. Also a great story to talk about how alike we are. A fun family read and gift for Grandparents Day.
My son loved it! He loved the peek into different cultures and language. He also liked that there is a Filipino lola. We would love to read more of these books.
Thank you Netgally, Quattro Publishing and Ms. Bhatt for the ARC copy.
This is the sweetest book i’ve read so far!
Each granny gets a page that tells you about her name in that language and their traditions.
The illustrations were lovely and warm.
The only complaint is that I thought it would have many other grandmas from the world (like my Nonna :))
I really loved this book, from the variety of illustrations to the colorful pages. I learned so much about grandmas and their traditions around the world. I really loved the grandmas phrases and I would definitely read this book to my son!
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley, this is my first review!
This was such a cute book. I really enjoyed reading and learning about grandmothers from different cultures. The illustrations are adorable. This is a great way to help kids learn about different cultures.
Really cute book on grandmothers around the world. This seems like something sweet a grandma might read to her young grandchildren as a way to connect and also learn something about other grandmas around the world. The illustrations are nice as well.

This is a wonderful book to show appreciation to grandmothers all around the world. I like the fact that we can learn how to say "grandmother" and greet in few languages, and learn few traditions as well.
I feel that this book helps young readers to appreciate and celebrate the special family member.
Grandmas come in all sizes, shapes, abilities, colors, and languages.
This wonderfully illustrated book is a delight! A number of grandmas are represented with their native names (including memaw), greetings, special characteristics and universal characteristics, and more. What a wonderful gift to share with children, libraries, and ESL readers everywhere!
I requested and received a free temporary ebook copy from Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books via NetGalley. Thank you!
This is such a sweet book! I love all the illustrations showing how many special things we can learn from our grandmas. It's also interesting to see a few cultural aspects from all over the world that we pass from one generation to the next. Really, really cute. If I was a child and my grandmas were still alive, I would love to read this with them.

This was such a fun read! The illustrations are beautiful and I enjoyed learning about the different cultures and the ways grandmas love all around the world. I can't wait to read to my daughters.
Pros: When reading children's books, the first thing I pay attention to is in the illustrations and if any child reading the book could see themselves reflected in the illustrations. I loved how inclusive the illustrations in this book are. My favorite part of this book was learning about traditions around the world. I think adults should be able to learn from children's books, and I loved learning about world cultures and customs in this book.
Cons: This is more an opportunity than a con. Family structures can be complicated, so not every child has a grandmother. I'd love to see additional books that focus on other members of the family.
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Wide Eyed Editions for the opportunity to read this book!
A wonderful book showing the different grandmas throughout the world. It contains Grandma’s Special Skills, Facts and my favorite, Anatomy of a grandma. There is a page dedicated to each grandma from different areas of the world. It tells what the grandma is called and gives interesting facts about the culture that uses that form of grandma.
I love this book! It is interesting and gives just enough information about each culture without overwhelming the reader. I found the greetings and wisdom fascinating. The illustrations are fun, colorful and compliment the culture being discussed.
I received an ARC from Quarto Publishing through NetGalley. This in no way affects my opinion or rating of this book. I am voluntarily submitting this review and am under no obligation to do so.
This is such a great series! The illustrations are awesome. I would buy this book for friends with young children. Children (and parents!) will get to learn about different cultures and new words as well.
