Very cute! There isn't a narrative text, but rather several two-page scenes of various activities labeled with vocabulary words, including a highlighted action word and feeling word. Kids will find the bright colors and fun pictures appealing, which will make this a great way to both celebrate Halloween and expand vocabulary.
FYI to US readers, this seems to contain UK/Commonwealth English (I noticed Jell-o was called jelly) that might need to be explained to young readers.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
Halloween will be here before we know it. For a very young ghoul or goblin, this book makes a nice introduction to the holiday. This book is charmingly illustrated with pages on everything from Picking Pumpkins to Scary Treats. Each vivid two page spread offers new words to learn. In addition to naming objects, there are also a feeling word and a verb identified, for example, Scooping and Excited on the Carving Pumpkins page.
This title makes a nice addition to the word books that are created for young children.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Halloween is an adorable book for toddlers about the holiday. It features vibrant illustrations and new words for them to learn. I really liked that some if the vocabulary is less common for children's books as they are associated with Halloween and fall activities. An educational addition to any young child's library!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC.
Adorable first words Halloween book! Perfect to get your little one ready for Halloween. The illustrations are bright and cute so it will keep them focused. This would make a great baby gift for any Halloween babies too.
Cute book with colorful illustrations. Everything a baby needs to know about Halloween. Babies will enjoy this colorful book.
This was a great book on Halloween for children! I’d recommend this for younger children, preschool age, or Kindergarten. It has interesting illustrations that are accurate and colourful, as well labels. It is not a storybook, but could be useful for spelling, assigning words to items and work recognition!
Halloween is the perfect book for young readers learning new vocabulary! It pinpoints words that fit the Spooky Season vibe without going overboard. A wonderful addition to your early reader's library!
A cute word book describing activities and items associated with fall and Halloween. The pages have bright colorful scenes with words labeling each item on the page from pumpkin picking to costumes to spooky treats. A cute Halloween book for young children and beginning readers.
I loved this book! It was both a great introduction to Halloween and fall-related words, but also some general terms as well. The theme worked well throughout the book, and I like how it progressed from daytime activities, to getting ready for Halloween, to trick-or-treating, and then bed afterwards. I also liked how each 2-page spread also included a verb and a feeling word.
Thank you for the advance copy! My 2 year old loved looking at the pictures and identifying new words associated with the upcoming holiday!
Love the diversity, the color scheme, the coziness of this book! What an incredible gift for an infant OR for kiddos learning this holiday for the first time. What a sweet book!
Charming and entertaining, the perfect little book for a child's first Halloween. Great for starting conversations around festive celebrations and also emotions, as there is a page of pumpkins expressing different feelings.
Review to come October 2nd to blog/goodreads.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
This was just the cutest Halloween book I think I ever read. It was still filled with Halloween but done in such an adorable way. It was just too spoopy and I love it.
In this book we follow a little girl and family (I am just going to see that orange boy and woman as part of the family as I would love that to be true) as they prepare for Halloween. There is no story with words but the illustrations are there to give all of the story and show us what is going on.
Next to seeing the family prepare we learn all the words. From a knife to cut the pumpkin to candles and plates to butter used for cookies and a kettle that is on the stove. There are wings on a costume and a torch for the scaredycats when going out to trick/treat. There is a moon in the sky and cute little mice running around at night. I just loved all the words and I am sure that kids will love learning words this way. Plus, they can also learn acti0n and feeling words. Like scooping or tired. Loved that as well!
But we also get little themed pages featuring pumpkin faces who are ranging from happy to worried. There is a page filled with yummy and spooky treats (can I have that doughnut please). And there are a couple of other pages filled with Halloween YAS!
The art was just the best! It was spoopy and fun and I love the colours!
Highly recommend this one for the spooky season!
Halloween is hands down, my favorite holiday! I loved the pumpkin faces, I am definitely going to have to try a few of those on my pumpkins, so cute. This book has a great collection of words for children to learn, some will be easy and others will be more difficult. The illustrations in this book were on point.
A great addition to any holiday collection.
