Description
"The Strategic Leader's Roadmap provides an essential playbook for combining business strategy with great leadership."—William P. Lauder, Executive Chairman, The Estée Lauder Companies Inc.
In The Strategic Leader's Roadmap, Updated and Revised Edition: 6 Steps for Integrating Leadership and Strategy, Wharton management professors Harbir Singh and Michael Useem offer a six-point checklist for today's leaders to follow. They explain how leading strategically will help managers strengthen their capacity to develop strategy and to lead its execution.
Drawing on one-on-one interviews with CEOs, in-depth research, and their experience teaching today's executives and tomorrow's leaders, Singh and Useem take readers into the offices—and mindsets—of some of today's foremost strategic leaders.
In this fully updated and revised edition, Singh and Useem explore: How Indra Nooyi rose to become CEO of PepsiCo and led its successful strategic redirection; How Jack Ma consistently pivoted and outflanked competition to position Alibaba to become a global behemoth; How John Chambers, executive chairman of Cisco Systems, changed his and other company leaders' leadership to stay ahead of disruption; How Lawrence Culp Jr., the CEO of Danaher from 2001 to 2014 and later General Electric, increased the market value of Danaher more than four-fold compared to the S&P 500. Fast-reading and actionable, The Strategic Leader's Roadmap will enable leaders at all levels to master the abilities necessary to keep their companies ahead of the competition.

Fast-reading and actionable, The Strategic Leader's Roadmap will enable leaders at all levels to master the abilities necessary to keep their companies ahead of the competition.
The Strategic Leader's roadmap is almost a companion book to Useem's Leader's Checklist --also just reissued and updated for it's 10th anniversary. Of the two books, this one holds up better over the years. Even though some of the CEO's mentioned have either retired or moved onto other companies, the lessons learned still resonate today. Whereas the Leader's Checklist was written for leaders and managers at all levels, this roadmap is directed more at the C-suite level. I was particularly pleased to see the emphasis on linking strategy and leadership as a critical part of the roadmap -- as a MBA myself, these were not connected in the curriculum and has been something I have had to figure out on the job. Key questions to ask as a strategic leader include "do we have the right people, culture and organization design?" There are many great examples of CEO's who were able to take cues from the market to define the value proposition, communicate intent to the organization and empower managers to execute on the strategy. These leaders also were able to stay the course, even with incredible resistance from their own management teams and activist shareholders. This is a quick and easy read with great tips and examples that benefit executives, board members and leaders running businesses and organizations.
I recommend this book..
This is a quick and easy read that will be beneficial for and leader who wants to better plan and organize their work.
