Elisa Morgan addresses the pain of loneliness in "You Are Not Alone" by sharing Biblical truths that soothe and comfort the soul.

Drawing from her own life as well as the lives of others, the author shares how God can transform loneliness into solitude across multiple areas of one's life.

Like a trusted companion, @elisamorganauthor leaves the reader feeling understood and provides her with simple, practical tools she can easily implement.

There is a lovely meditation at the back of the book that could serve as a wonderful prayer during a difficult time and a list of resources worth reading if you enjoy research.

Favorite quote: "While recognizing and owning our loneliness comes first, and while it takes honesty and effort to recognize and own our lonely, there's more to be done. In order to move to unlonely, the next key is to go to God..."

There is help for loneliness
According to Christianity Today Elisa Morgan is one of the top 50 women influencing today's church and culture. She is also an and speakers. In her book "You Are Not Alone. Six Affirmations from a Loving God", published by Our Daily Bread Publishing, Morgan deals with the burning issue of loneliness. In the introduction she states: "we’ll look square in the face at “the pain of alone” and honestly see ourselves in the struggle. ?en, we’ll examine our six lonely struggles and pair them with six affirmations of the love God offers us in His Person. Each will build on the other until we emerge, hand in hand, with the hope God gives us in a life transformed from lonely to “unlonely”." In order to accomplish this goal she treats the topics of "God's Promise," "God's Perceptions," "God's Purpose," "God's Perception," and "God's Perspective." In the final chapter "Unlonely: God's Answer to the Pain of Our Alone" she wants to emerge with her readers at the hope that God gives in a transformed life.
Morgan bases her book on the Bible and shows where loneliness occurs in the Bible. She talks from her personal experiences. I appreciate her Practices that can be found throughout the book, e.g. "Personalize Psalm 139" or "Be Present with God's Presence and Pray His Prayers" that challenge the readers to become proactive in their loneliness. The book also includes endnotes that are good for referencing and for digging deeper. I highly recommend the book for readers who are dealing with loneliness and for those who are accompanying lonely people.
The complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley free of charge. I was under no obligation to offer a positive review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

You Are Not Alone

Read an ARC from NetGalley

This is a book that looks at what it means to be lonely but also what it means to know that we are never truely alone when we have a relationship with God.

This is a study of how we can see through out the Bible that God is with us even in the times that we personally feel alone. That doesn't always mean in just a physical sense either. Through out this book we are given references to six affirmations (God's Promise, God's Perception, God's Purpose, God's Presence, God's Provision, and God's Perspective.)

I want to commend Elisa Morgan for the research and time that went into this book because it felt like there was a lot of hard work and biblical study put into this book. I think that she did accomplish what she set out to do, but I don't know that it worked for me.

I can see where this book could be extremly helpful to those who don't have a close relationship with God and are trying to find a book that helps them find their way to a closer relationship to him.

For me this book just reaffirms things that I already know and I was hoping that I was going to get some new insight. I think also at the time in my life where I am trying to deconstruct my faith and doing a lot of self reflection and trying to discern what it is I believe and not just what I have been taught/ conditioned to believe that this book didn't really help me.

I do think that this is a great place for someone who is new to their faith and is struggling to pick up and learn some of these biblically based truths about who God is and what God wants a releationship with us to look like.

I stumbled on this one on Netgalley during a period of time when I was feeling very lonely. The timing felt perfect.

Morgan walks through six affirmations and pairs them with things that cause us to feel lonely. All of them are rooted in this one theme: God is always with us. We are never alone. She gives practical tips in each one to encourage the reader to be proactive in dealing with loneliness. We don't have to stay there. While the book isn't long, she gives resources for further study for those that want to go deeper or for ideas that really resonate. It's encouraging, helpful and hopeful; perfect for someone feeling alone.

Thanks to Netgalley for my e copy in exchange for my honest review.

You are not alone reminds us that God sees us and care about us. We can feel lonely for a varitety of reasons: the loss of a spouse or the end of a friendship... It can bring us to isolation or question God. So it's important to remember that God is present, he provides, he has a purpose through the pain.
I think it was interesting but maybe too short.
