Description

A chronic yes-woman finally admits to what—and who—she really wants in this unforgettable and heartfelt romantic comedy, by the author of The Layover.

Liv Bakersfield is used to living her life in “shoulds.” Be fit. Be financially responsible. Be your best self. An overworked graphic designer, she’s stretched so thin that she’s about to miss yet another vacation with her beloved group of college friends. But when Liv finally decides to start saying no, it feels good…good enough to leap straight into quitting her job and hopping on a plane to join them in South Africa.

Amid the exotic landscape and unforgettable sights, Liv expects sun and safari animals and an easy time with her best friends. But such close proximity makes everything more complicated, especially with the emotionally unavailable Lucas Deiss. Their friendship is the only thing in her life that's still solid, and she vows to do anything she can to keep the group together. But once they get back to LA, Liv discovers that her leap of faith has become a freefall, sending her crashing into Deiss's arms. With the trust of the people she loves most on the line, Liv must decide between doing what she should … and risking everything for what she shouldn’t want.

Such an easily given 5-star read. From the second we meet her we know that Liv has gone through a lot and has reasons behind the way she acts. She is much more layered and real than what she allows others to see, even her closer friends. So when she decides to finally say, "No." We are all taken on a journey with her.

Liv is great, her friends feel real and not like they all check a box. I read this one soaking up the sun on vacation and it was great. I think I would have enjoyed it just as much if I had been at home on my couch, but hearing the waves crashing and wiggling my toes in the sand while reading definitely didn't hurt.

One thing that I specifically liked about this read is that it snuck peeks in to the past to establish the characters backstories without getting stuck there. I really loved this - and would really enjoy reading more about this-ola friend-ola group-ola.

While I liked The Layover, I loved this book. It is like the author took all the best parts of The Layover and doubled down with this one. I will be recommending this one loudly and proudly when it comes out on July 19!

I loved lacies first book, the layover and couldn’t wait to jump into this one! It did not disappoint. Such a fun summer read for those with wanderlust. Lacies writing is top notch, as was the romance.

I absolutely loved this friends to lovers, slow burn romance! Found family is one of my top tier tropes and this book has one of the best found families. Each character is so well-developed, I felt like I was a part of their friend group. I really enjoyed watching the dynamic change between Deiss and Liv, there was so much tension and pining and he was so clearly gone for her from the very beginning and it was perfect. This is a witty, sharp, fun summer read!

Thanks to Putnum and Netgalley for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review! I had not heard of this author before, but it sounded like a fun summer read. Olivia has lived her life doing all of the "right" things and decides one day to see what happens when she disrupts that plan. She has been friends with the same group from college - Mac, Lucas, Simone, and Phoebe, and she decides to say no to a work project and go at the last minute with her friends to South Africa on vacation, which jump starts a series of fortunate and unfortunate events. I loved watching Olivia find her voice. This is a friends to lovers romantic comedy, and the buildup is amazing - I did not want to put this down! Perfect beach read, laugh out loud funny. 5 stars!

I hesitate to use the word charming, but this was charming. Friends to lovers, quasi-self realization catharsis for the protagonist that has very little to do with falling in love, and almost everything to do with acknowledging and embracing what she wants for herself and her future by way of saying, "NO." A refreshing summer romance.
