Description
Home should be the safest place to be – but is it?
Alice leads a typical middle-class life. That is, until her son, Albert, tries to kill himself. As Alice, her husband, Bruce, and adopted daughter, Enjoy, try to deal with their new reality, the once almost imperceptible fissures in the family widen … and infidelity and murder slip through the cracks.
From the author of Shadow Self, Love and Wine, The Punishment and Under the Surface, comes a riveting read about the complexities of a family in crisis.
Advance Praise
"Family is complicated and the Louws are no different. An emotional rollercoaster through the highs and Louws of a seemingly tight-knit family that is unraveling at the edges. A smoldering tale with many intriguing twists and unexpected turns.”

This novel is such an amazing take on the psychological turmoil of depression and suicide. With reading that flows very easily and seems like scenes Straight out of a movie, you won’t want to stop reading. It goes through the different lives and perspectives of the characters and the ultimate consequences of their actions. I highly enjoyed every twist turn and plot twist.
I really enjoyed this book and the descriptions and imagery was so vivid that it felt like I was watching a movoe or a tv drama playing out in front of me. It was so well written with great characters and really emotive issues that were handled sensitively and effectively. I really enjoyed it.
This is a very well written book. The characters are completely believable and the author touches on mental health issues and how it can adversely affect a family, as well as infidelity, and abuse. The romantic scenes were very tastefully written and I really liked the ending. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes family dramas.
Thank you Net Galley for allowing me to read this incredible ARC for my honest review.
Heartbreaking as a mama. As a new mom, anything about child deaths or even attempted suicide is extra heartbreaking to me. But this was a very good read. It was well written and read like it was a movie script. I feel like the twist added to an already good story line. I have never read a book by Paula Marais but I definitely would read another one now that I have. I loved the cover I felt like it was a little spooky almost. And I loved the name of the book. I give this a 4 star rating!

Mental illness was handled in a sensitive way. A well written book.
