Like We Belong

Written from a six-character point of view, this fictional story explores the balance of life and relationships through the lenses of six teens moving through their senior year. 

Meet Garvey High’s Top couples:

The Reckless Lovers: Maverick and Terri are verbally abusive on again, off again lovers who are constantly bickering everywhere they go. Even though Maverick cheats, Terri always takes him back. The secrets they keep from the rest of their friends make them dependent on each other for all the wrong reasons. 

The Exes: Benny and Kady had a two year run as Garvey High’s best couple but split over the summer. Benny tries to stay focused on being at the top of his class. While Kady tries to continue reigning as the school’s Queen Bee by making it her personal business to ruin any and everyone’s day just for the fun of it.

The Newbies: Clove and Jonah are new to Las Vegas but they aren’t new to being outcasts. Their friendship began when they were eight years old and their uncommon qualities are what drew them to one another: Jonah, the mixed boy with red hair and freckles; Clove, the timid southern belle who's coping with vitiligo. They understand each other perfectly and love each other relentlessly. 

Clove and Jonah just want to come out of Senior year strong and college ready, but they find themselves unintentionally looped into the popular crowd at their new school. Their so-called friends have deep secrets and dark pasts that are constantly challenging Clove and Jonah’s values and beliefs. 

While juggling good grades, parent expectations, and all the things that come with being in a new city; Clove and Jonah become wrapped up in a whirlwind of inner and outer struggles. If birds of a feather flock together, then Clove and Jonah have to decide what’s best for them: staying true to themselves or conforming to fit in.
