I love this children’s spiritual picture book! I’ve been reading children’s books for my entire life, reviewing them for 10 months. During this time, I’ve only found a few Christian-based books, one of which is multi-cultural. My heart became filled with joy as page one loaded onto my screen. When I witnessed the love and light in the eyes of the characters, I knew I was home.
The illustrations are the best that I’ve seen in a children’s book. The colors so bright and vibrant. The pictures were so life-like, it was like looking at a picture of friends and family. The personalities jump off the page.
I love how the prose is in the form of a prayer to God while the characters are going about their daily life. Isn’t that how it’s supposed to be, us talking to God throughout our day?
My favorite portion of the book is the page detailing I Corinthian 13; Faith, Hope, and Love. I also appreciate picture of the American flag. The title, “Prayer for Our Country,” is perfect given the struggles currently being faced by our country and the world as a whole.
I am grateful for this book as I feel that it will touch many hearts and heal many souls. I can imagine it being read to young children before prayers and bedtime. It would also be a welcome addition to any church-based gathering. I look forward to other books by this team of educators.
I want to thank Author Senate Chaplain Barry Black, Illustrator Kim Holt, Zondervan Publishing, and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this Advanced Reader’s Copy. This is a voluntary review, and all comments and opinions are entirely my own.
From the bright illustrations to the eloquent prayer, A Prayer for Our Country is stunning! The wording of the prayer is thoughtful, sound and not overwhelming for children. Each page is bright, colorful and full of life. This would be a great book to add to your child's bookshelf or to give as a gift!
