Find out what needs to be done at just the right time to create a garden full of life and colour all year round.

Keeping on top of when to sow seeds, plant bulbs or prune roses can be tricky for new and experienced gardeners with busy lives. What to Sow, Grow and Do takes the hassle out of remembering what to do next with a month-by-month guide.

Tracking a year in the garden, it shows you what you need to do when in a series of straightforward how-tos and handy checklists. It also celebrates each month of the year, highlighting the plants in season and the wildlife to spot.

Seasonal tasks cover everything from maintaining colorful flower beds and a simple veg patch, to encouraging birds to nest and hedgehogs to hibernate in your garden. At the end of the year, you will have a thriving, flourishing garden that’s a joy to be in.

Each month, the book will cover:
  • Monthly tasks – a full guide that includes the seeds to sow, the plants to prune and a checklist of jobs around the garden,
  • Hero plants – what’s coming into flower, in full bloom, and dying back to help you plan your gardening year,
  • Wildlife lifecycle – the animals and insects going into/coming out of hibernation, migrating, emerging and retreating to help you support nature.

Whether you are a seasoned horticulturalist or are just starting our planting you first seedlings, this guide is an indispensible companion to any gardener all the year round.

I was really pleased to be offered this book to review by netgalley because I was intending to buy it (I have a bloom magazine subscription). Now I have read it, I’m going to buy another copy for my mum. I really liked the was it clearly set out jobs for the season and what to plant and when. The lay out is slightly different to other gardening books of a similar theme and I felt it combined my ‘go to’ books. It is incredibly stylish and has really beautiful pictures throughout. Would recommend!

I immensely enjoyed reading What to Sow, Grow and Do by Benjamin Pope.

The book is divided into the four seasons and then categorized within for tasks to do, projects, and of course what should be done within that season. As a California farmer, these UK gardening books offer a wide range of gardening that doesn't apply to areas with summer heat and no rain but nevertheless I can appreciate the projects Benjamin offered. Of those, the willow plant supports are one I made and incorporate in pots that needs support.

Throughout the book, it is loaded with great gorgeous photos and the prose is beautiful. I realized every photograph had a man's hand or arms and I've been reviewing so many gardening books created by women that I realize it was enough to be noticeable.

Love, charming, and well-formatted.

I would like to thank NetGalley, the publisher Quarto Publishing for the opportunity to read and review What to Sow, Grow and Do by Benjamin Pope.

What to sow, grow and do by Benjamin Pope is a gem of a book.
It is equally useful as a reference book taking you through the seasons and detailing jobs to do and projects to consider, and as a book full of inspiration to curl up with during the winter and plan for the year ahead.
I love the way it is organised by season and the emphasis given to wildlife and working with nature rather than trying to tame it. It is enhanced by beautiful photography throughout.
Thank you to Netgalley and Quarto publishing for the opportunity to review this book.

This is a lovely, well illustrated and well written guide for UK gardeners on what to do in the garden every season. It's filled with color photos, plant suggestions, and great garden projects. It was frustrating for me as a zone 4 Minnesota gardener because almost none of the plants profiled said they'd grow in my zone. I wonder if the USDA zone information was wrong though, because it said many plants that I grow at least similar varieties were zone 6 and that's just not true. Things like crab apples, tulips, irises, etc. were listed as zone 6a and such. I have had that happen with UK garden books before so I wonder if even though they say that they list USDA zone information they translate it incorrectly? In any case, it will be a great resource for those in the UK and in warmer parts of the U.S. I especially loved the projects like building supports for potted plants from sticks instead of buying wire cages. A lovely resource.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.

What a fabulous useful book ! What to Sow provides an entire year's worth of planning for your garden. Everything is included, even a handy glossary for those of you who are new to gardening. Beautiful color photos illustrate what should be done each season and a task list clarified every goal.

The "Do"of the title included enjoying and celebrating the garden. Great reminders of enjoying the fruit of your labor and suggestions of plants and flowers to include to attract wildlife. If you are new or intermediately involved in gardening, interested in more wildlife or diversifying your garden, this is a great book for you!

What a splendid book! The photographs are superb, and make you dream! The text is
The book is divided into seasons so that we should know what to do in early or late spring for instance, which is extremely helpful.
I love the author's foreword and could not agree more. Gardening is first and foremost about observation, not about the so-called "green fingers" (in French "green hand"). Every section is useful, from general pruning advice to gardening terms, sowing guide,
The seasonal sections are poetic. Each plant is described and we are told how to plant or sow this plant. It is a perfect guide for new gardeners or even experienced ones who want to grow! Thank you so much for sharing such a gem!

Really lovely book, I enjoyed the layout and formatting a great deal. Unfortunately, the book is geared towards UK gardening, which was my mistake in picking it up. While I love the layout, not much inside applies to the area of the US that I am from.
