Description
“Jennifer Freed is one of my favorite spiritual teachers.”—GLENNON DOYLE
“Dr. Jen provides a clear map to realizing your innate gifts and how to best share them with the world.”—MILA KUNIS
There are four elements—fire, earth, air, and water—that exist in nature and within us all. Knowing your personal map of these four elements offers a way to personalize your self-care rituals and design your best life: one that fully expresses your special gifts.
With a PhD in psychology in addition to her expertise as an astrologer, Dr. Jennifer Freed is here to show you to how to decode and tap into your gifts in this practical guide to life. She explains how your astrological birth chart can point you to the life you want and offers self-assessments to pinpoint your most effective strategies. A Map to Your Soul offers practical exercises for topics ranging from communication styles to creativity, home styles to psychic development, health habits to belief systems. Some of the advice is as simple as the color scheme that will make you feel most at peace in your bedroom. Other advice is as nuanced as how to better listen to your loved ones and how to fulfill your soul’s purpose.
To get a sense of how the four elements manifest for you, think of a time when you felt:
• Mentally clear: that's air
• Grounded and centered: that's earth
• Flowing and feeling: that's water
• Creative and Dynamic: that's fire
Written with the beginner in mind but offering insight to the experienced student of astrology, A Map to Your Soul is a 12-part journey through the way the elements express themselves in your life. By balancing and supporting the elements within us, we can finally truly flourish.

This book focuses on psychological astrology, the study of the stars with your biological and nurturing heritages. Unlike traditional astrology, the focus of psychological astrology is self awareness for obtaining your optimal contributions to your well-being.
The structure of this book is that of a twelve part journey into realizing your most exciting possibilities through the core elements of the soul of air, water, fire, water. The twelve domains are based on the astrological houses which divide the human experience into twelve areas.
This is a very original combination of psychological analysis, metaphysics and astrology. It uses true life stories from clients and features practical exercises. Illustrations of natal charts. This book succeeds in combining two disparate realms, psychology and astrology.
Having a rudimentary understanding of astrology and an abiding interest in consciousness studies, I was drawn to this book by the description of psychological astrology, the role of nature through the four elements, and the beautiful cover. The intended readers are people who know the answers they seek are within and are open to guidance and support in that process.
As both an experienced clinical psychologist and a practicing astrologer, the author poses the question, “What would it mean to live a ‘fully expressed life’ through becoming aware of your innate gifts and living in balance with nature?” She then offers a means to achieve this through an intriguing blend of your “soul map and star map” as revealed through 12 domains, which correlate to the 12 houses in astrology.
The author suggests taking either 12 weeks or a full year to explore the domains through the assessments, exercises and illustrative case studies included in the chapters. The material is clear, well organized and provides ample opportunities for both novices and those more experienced with astrological systems to gain insight and self-awareness. The appendices provide basic introductions to astrology and the significance of the houses.
I have not had the opportunity to fully complete the 12 domains in order to write a timely review. However, I have found the chapters to be illuminating and will continue to work through the process. Having my astrology chart added significant depth to the process and suggestions are made for those who wish to obtain a free personalized chart of their own.
Overall, I found this self-guided journey to be beneficial and practical in synthesizing psychological principles, spiritual/soul attributes and astrological data.
My thanks to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for the privilege of reviewing this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
