“A chilling, nerve-jangling journey into lost memories and unforgettable terrors. Sandra Wong knows what scares us all—and what we can never forget.” —Tess Gerritsen, New York Times–bestselling author of Listen to Me
A jolting psychological suspense novel from an up-and-coming Chinese-Canadian crime writer about missing parents, a winning lottery ticket and the lies we tell ourselves in order to survive.
Some things are better left forgotten . . .
When a woman wakes up with amnesia beside a mountain highway, confused and alone, she fights to regain her identity, only to learn that her parents have disappeared—not long after her mother bought a winning $47 million lottery ticket.
As her memories painfully resurface and the police uncover details of her parents’ mysterious disappearance, Cleo Li finds herself under increasing suspicion. Even with the unwavering support of her brother, she can’t quite reconcile her fears with reality or keep the harrowing nightmares at bay.
As Cleo delves deeper for the truth, she cannot escape the nagging sense that maybe the person she should be afraid of...is herself.
With jolting revelations and taut ambiguity, In the Dark We Forget vividly examines the complexities of family—and the lies we tell ourselves in order to survive.

A woman awakens on the side of the road in Canada and does not know where she is....or who she is. She quickly makes her way to the hospital and it is determined she has been assaulted. By chance, she has an Asian officer assigned to her which helps put her at ease and also is a foil for addressing the microaggressions that Asians experience in Canada.
The woman is slow to remember who she is and what happened to her. Slowly but surely clues come to light and it is clear that something terrible has happened and she needs to figure out who she is and who can help her. There is a lot more to this story that is gripping and interesting, but I can't give away the mystery! If you like amnesia stories, mysteries and complicated families, then this story is for you!

“In the dark we forget” - out in a day!
This was an interesting one- I felt frustrated not knowing anything along with the MC. This is an easy thriller, and I can’t wait to see what others start thinking when it’s out!
🎉Happy Pub Day!!🎉
📖My thoughts📖
Wow! What a twisted tale! The fact that the main character wakes up first thing at the start of the book suffering from amnesia makes the storyline that much more clenching! It only adds to the mystery of it all. I love that this book had me guessing right up until the very end, holding my attention the entire time. This is a must read! I tore through this one feeling as though I couldn’t read fast enough! If you’re a fan of psychological thrillers, go snap yourself a copy of this gem! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
❤️Thank you Netgalley, Harper360, Sandra Sg Wong, and Sophia Wilhelm for the opportunity to read and review this spectacular book! ❤️
⚠️warning: Once you start this book, you will not want to stop ⚠️
Thank you NetGalley and Harper 360 for the copy of In The Dark We Forget. I thought Cleo was a wonderful, strong character. I liked how she learned about herself and how she was perceived and grew from it. Her relationship with her family was realistic and emotional.
I loved the story, how Cleo went from remembering nothing about her life and slowly started finding clues about what had happened and at the same time came to realizations about her family. The book did a good job of addressing family and racial inequities that do not just exist in Canada! The most important thing for me when reading a book is the quality of the writing, and this book delivered! Even if I hadn’t loved the story or characters, the writing was so hypnotic I would have finished this book anyway. This book is not to be missed!
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, Harper 360 and by #NetGalley. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
Wild thriller with a mystery that made my senses tingle.
3.5 This psychological thriller was an interesting read. The ending was somewhat vague and I wish it had a more concrete ending, but it was still an enjoyable read. I found Cleo to be a complex character and it was fun to solve the puzzle of what really happened as I made my way through the book. Thanks to NetGalley and Harper 360 for the ARC!
This is a very well written slow burn thriller. It was sometimes hard to read as the main character struggled with amnesia and for part of the story not much was happening but the build up. Who is she, is she a good person, a victim, a perpetrator and is anyone just one thing. The ending was ambiguous, so left with questions about what happened, which isn't my favorite 4.5
Classic thriller. The story has a unique plot that will we be reeling. Perfectly constructed characters and a unique setting! I absolutely loved this book.
How is this a debut novel?
Sandra SG Wong, delivers! In the Dark We Forget, was so well done I kept going back to google this author to make sure I had not missed any previous work.
I was completely consumed from page one until the very last page. The narration was done with perfection. The pace was done so well and kept me engaged and interested in what was going to happen next. This book is classified perfect as a thriller and had me on the edge of my seat, chewing at my finger tips the entire time.
I fell in love with Cleo, she was a multi-dimensional character that just seemed "oh so real" . The development over time made her even more realistic.
In the Dark We Forget is destined for the bestsellers list and many kudos to the author for starting out her career with such a bang. You made a lifetime fan out of me
I loved reading a book written from a Chinese-Canadian woman's point of view, although cultural considerations may have made the author deliberately ambiguous about the ending and the resolution of the crime. I think I know who the author intended as the culprit(s) of the crime(s), but I understand many people have been put off by what they see as a vague and ambiguous ending.
Nevertheless, this may add to the intrigue of the novel. An unreliable narrator who gets our sympathies in some instances, and our wariness about her supposed reputation, real or unfairly imposed by a non sympathetic society.
It is a book I'd like to read over again, such is its pull and draw.
In the Dark We Forget by Sandra SG Wong
Wow, I thought this was a fantastic, entertaining and DARK read!
It is an extremely well-written, fast-paced novel with well-drawn out characters.
A riveting and incredible read. I was entertained the whole time.
This was a fantastic read. I kept guessing and, in the end, I was not correct.
It is a page turner, and you are going to love how it all plays out.
Its incredibly well written, with just the right amount of suspense. I was completely hooked throughout the whole book.

Harper 360 & HarperCollins Publishers,
Thank You for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
This book started off strong!! I was HOOKED! Cleo wakes up and can't remember who she is, where she is, how she got there etc. I love books like that!!
The book was 352 pages but it seemed longer than that in a good way. The story kept going at a steady pace.
I liked the characters and the way their relationships wove together. Cleo seemed to have some personal growth which was a positive aspect to her unfortunate situation.
One part of the plot that bothered me was her total memory loss. They found Rohypnol in her system. That drug wouldn't cause total memory loss. I wish that was clarified when it was first mentioned. I know it's small and silly detail.

I'd recommend this book and mark it is as a 🅑︎🅤︎🅨︎ on the scale of Buy, Bargain, Borrow, Bud (audio) or Bust. (I came up with the scale. I'm oddly proud of it!)
A woman wakes in the forest, alone, not knowing where she is. As she tries to piece things together, she realizes she doesn't know WHO she is.
After going to the police, she's reunited with her brother, but finds out her parents are missing as well.
Slowly she starts remembering over the course of the book who she is, and what she may or may not have done.
Is she a victim? Is she responsible for her parents' disappearance? Or is someone else out there still waiting to harm her?
This was a really engrossing book, clues are doled out slowly over the course of the book, but it is done so well that each one is a bit of an "A-ha!" moment. It's hard to say more about the story without giving the plot away.
I really enjoyed this one, highly recommend if you are looking for a smart, unpredictable read. Thank you Netgalley and HarperCollins Publishing for the ARC!
WOW!!! I really enjoyed this book. The main character wakes up not knowing where she is and who she is. I enjoyed how the author helped the reader follow this character on her journey to discovering who she is and what happened to her and her parents. I also liked how the main character had to work through PTSD and anxiety and the reader felt the same emotions as the main character. Let me tell you about Cass, I loved him. He was there for his sister through the whole journey even when everyone suspected that she had something to do with their parents disappearance. Cass's character was extremely loyal and put his family first. I cannot wait to read another book by this author. Thank you for the advanced copy of this book!!!!
This debut novel is a great psychological thriller….well done!
Cleo wakes up on the side of the road with amnesia…but wait, it gets worse. Her parents are also missing. But before they went missing, they won the lottery. So what happened to them.? Where is the money? Why does Cleo have amnesia?
Note: the review for this is past the publishing date because it was requested and read after that
I was super excited to pick up a book by a Chinese crime writer and I wasn’t disappointed. Cleo wakes up and finds that her parents are gone and her memories are missing. As she raves to figure out what happened and what role she possibly played in her disappearance we are taken on a ride through her life. As you flip pages to race to the end you will be questioning everything that you think you know. The cultural details and the family dynamics are rich and provide so much atmosphere for the book. Make sure you grab this one because it is one that will stick with you for quite some time.
This book was creepy but good! I loved that it had me on the edge of my seat from the start and all the way til the end! Highly recommend it!

Synopsis: When a woman wakes up with amnesia beside a mountain highway, confused and alone, she fights to regain her identity, only to learn that her parents have disappeared—not long after her mother bought a winning $47 million lottery ticket. My Thoughts: I was immediately drawn to this book by the cover and pretty much I knew I wanted to read without really knowing what the story was. For a debut thriller, just amazing! The story opens up with a firework, then does some back building, and slowly building up the plot, with twists along the way. The story is divided up into three parts and narrated by Cleo, as an unreliable narrator, from her POV. The storytelling of the culture was extremely descriptive and detailed, an aspect that I loved. The characters were very well developed with depth, cultural exploration, mysterious, and just worked so well for this novel. The author’s writing style was complex, with more layers of complexity, suspenseful, tense on the edge of your seat moments, and family dynamics that tear at your heart. The author did a fantastic job at building the characters, layering in the twists while building up to the plot, while the ending was a little vague, I do believe this is just the brilliant writing of the author. I cannot wait to see future novels from Wong. I highly recommend you go pick up this page turning psychological thriller that was released last month.
If you love suspense you will love this? What would you do if one day you woke up and your couldn't remember anything and your family is missing? That what the main character faces when realize that her life has forever changed. It a great physiological suspense. It has a lot of page turning moments. I liked a few things about the book that show how modern it was a great debut by Sandra SG Wong.
I was hesitant going into this one, because it could have been really cheesy, but it turned out to be better than I expected! The synopsis was true to form; a woman awakens near a highway in Canada, with no idea of her name, where she is, and why she has obviously been attacked.
After going to the police, she finds out who she is … and also finds out her parents are missing. They’ve recently won a ton of money in the lottery, so immediately suspicion turns to everyone surrounding them - including their own daughter, who is still suffering from amnesia.
The book obviously is about finding out what happened, so the rest would be verging into spoiler territory, but it was good. It didn’t blow me away and there were a couple of things that annoyed the hell out of me, so I was planning on giving it 3.5 stars. The rounding would depend upon the end, and as I got there, I decided I’d round down to three stars.
THEN … I read the last few pages and generously decided to round up instead! This was a fun story and while not truly a solid four stars from me, it was still a very entertaining read.
(Thank you to Harper 360, Sandra SG Wong, and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review.)
The synopsis for this book was on point and I loved the cover. It was spooky and let me know what I'd be getting myself into! Very good read.
In the Dark We Forget is a fast-paced twisty thriller that will take readers on a rollercoaster of a ride. When a woman wakes up with amnesia and no memory of who she is, she learns her parents disappeared after her mother bought a winning lottery ticket. Highly recommended! Be sure to check out In the Dark We Forget today.
Sandra S.G. Wong hits the ground running with this raw and emotional rollercoaster of a novel right from the get-go! Immediately thrusting her reader into the story as we join the main character, waking up with no recollection of who or where she is, or any memory of how she might've gotten there. It is a tale that exposes a traumatic family dynamic between a brother and sister as they peel and pick at old scabs, dredging up some of the family's history.
While this story leaves you asking yourself some questions... It is an even-paced, psychological thriller/mystery, well-written in a style that delves into the little details that only does more to help enrapture you in the author's story. I definitely recommend picking up this book if you're looking for a novel that will transport you into it's chapters; envisioning the tale as if it was happening before your very eyes.
Special thanks to NetGalley, HarperCollins publishers, and Sandra S.G Wong for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
I really enjoyed that this thriller also explored the Asian heritage and culture of the characters while dealing with the mystery. Admittedly, I myself don’t do a great job of reading these types of books so getting this on Netgalley was good for me to learn about their culture and how they treat daughters versus sons. I enjoyed the concept of this one. I liked that the main character slowly became less trustworthy as we learned more about her personality and her past. This one wasn’t the most captivating thriller I’ve ever read, but it kept me interested and engaged while also shocking me with the ending. I wouldn’t run to grab this one but if it falls into your lap, I definitely recommend it!!
This review has been added to Goodreads, Literal and Storygraph, as well as Barnes & Noble and Amazon. This will be posted to my instagram (@busywithmybooks_) within the week.
Thank you for allowing me to listen to this story!!
Wow! This was so good that I couldn't put it down and had to keep reading until the end. This examination of family and memory will keep you guessing until the end. A thoroughly satisfying roller-coaster of a read!
Thanks to HarperCollins for access to a digital ARC on Netgalley.com.
Finally a book that has the amnesia trope done correctly!!!!!
I’m obsessed with this book. It had such great conversations, good twists, atmospheric writing, and focuses on aspects of the Asian American culture that I found so interesting to read about.
Highly highly recommend
Spooky. Eerie. Awesome. A fresh voice in thrillers. This was like taking a huge gulp of fresh air. I loved everything about it.
Wow! Buckle up, kids, this is one heck of a rollercoaster ride! You will not want to put this down! Our main character has amnesia. She cannot remember her name, or what happened to her, but she feels as if she's in danger.
That's all I'm telling you about the plot because you have to read this one for yourself. Don't go looking for reviews or even pay attention to the synopsis because you'll want to have the gasp out loud moments. Finding out certain things as you read will keep you on the edge of your seat.
The book is fast-paced, absorbing, and entertaining. I can't wait to read more books by this author.
Thank you, NetGalley, for the chance to read and review this book. All opinions expressed are mine and freely given.
