Beautiful pictures throughout the book make me want to sample everything they have included. Bonus points for the Hangul characters above the recipes and especially the ingredients which makes it easier to find them in the Asian markets. This one also includes converted measurements so adaptable for US or metric kitchens. This is described as an easy-to-use practical cookbook and it seems easy enough for me to find the ingredients and make some of these tempting dishes. Highly recommended for those looking for something a little different, exotic, and tasty.

With the days growing shorter and colder, this book provides delicious ways to warm up! I have always loved the versatility and simplicity of Korean cuisine. As a pescatarian for almost a decade now, this book has given me a whole month worth of new meals to try, and that's just from the seafood section alone!
I'm so excited to bring this book into my middle school library. With the constant use of social media, such as TikTok, lots of kids are being exposed to videos depicting delicious Korean food. This cooking book, with its simple organization and language, will be a fantastic resource for these kids looking to try making their own Korean recipes. I know I will be spending the next few months eating my way through this book. It would make for an excellent foundation for a cooking class or club.

I downloaded this book just today, and have already read through the whole thing and immediately pre-ordered it! Chef Aaron Huh does an amazing job of making sometimes very complex and intimidating recipes seem simple and approachable. The photos of each recipe are beautiful and I love the little blurbs written by his wife on each recipe! Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC!

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. Very simple a modern Korean cookbook. The pictures are very pretty and the recipes are actually really simple. Highly recommend and can't wait to try some of the recipes. I was actually really happy to see so many recipes for sauces.

Quick Summary: A mouth-watering gift to the eyes and a hearty, rich resource for the brain

My Review: Simply Korean: Easy Recipes for Kimchi, Noodles, Soups, and More by Aaron Huh was a gift, to be sure. I practically devoured it in one sitting. It was wholly captivating. I confess that it enticed me, tempting me with its tantalizing cuisine. The beauty of this book was that it really did make everything presented look so simple, in terms of preparation.

While I consider myself to be familiar, at best, with some Korean foods, I must say that I learned so much more. The pictures and instructions in the book were so helpful. As I read, I kept thinking that I really could do this. I could actually make the presented recipes come to life. Yum!

My Favorite Helpful Hints: I loved the essential ingredients and the measurements and conversion chart.

My Favorite Aha: I did not know that there were so many different kinds of kimchi or soy sauces.

Favorite Recipes...and the first I will try to make and master:

Gamja Jorim
Chicken-Mu
Korean Fried Chicken
Sweet and Spicy Sauce
Bap
Pa Kimchi
Yachaejeon

My Final Say: This book is a keeper. I loved reading the digital copy, but I cannot wait to get the hard copy in my hands. Also, I am happy to say that I will be following Mr. Huh and his wife on YouTube, thank you very much! Readers will certainly enjoy every single bite of this book. Guaranteed!

As a Korean-American who has never really cooked much Korean food (I blame my proximity to my parents' house--why cook when I know my mom is more than willing to and is just a 10 minute drive away?), I did recently decide I wanted to give it a shot myself. Though I haven't actually tried any of the recipes, I most certainly will be trying these. I love how clean the layout of the book is (the cookbooks with 1-2 pages of preamble before the actual recipe??? I'll pass on them!)--the recipes have like a tiny paragraph blurb beforehand talking about the different places you might find the food or a little fun fact about it. I think almost all the recipes fit onto one page, which a lot of cookbooks aren't great about. The beginning also had some wonderful information on staples for most recipes. As other reviewers have noted, I did like that the names of the dishes and ingredients were written in hangul as well as English, as that helps me, as someone who is accustomed to reading/hearing the dish names in Korean. All in all, I would recommend this to any beginner interested in learning more about Korean food.

The recipes seem simple and easy to understand! I loved that there were recipes for some of the sauces as well! The pictures were beautiful and I cannot way to try a recipe out! This would make a great gift!

Thank you to NetGalley and Aaron Huh for providing me an ebook of this cookbook!

Absolutely love this cookbook. I am a veteran lover of Korean food, but have only dipped my toe into Korean cooking over the years with a few standards, though I do make my own kimchi. Aaron Huh does a great job of breaking down the component parts of the meal, starting with the base sauces and essential ingredients. This really sets the foundation for the rest of the recipes, many of which are definitely easy for beginners to tackle. Simply Korean is definitely going into my regular rotation for meals and special occasions. Love it!

This cookbook is so helpful if you are looking to explore more Korean food at home! The ingredients and food are thoroughly explained and the abundance of pictures helps. This book definitely makes me feel more prepared to cook Korean food and the recipes themselves look delicious. I know my sisters will love this book too so I look forward to gifting them a copy.!

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for the opportunity to read and review this book. I received a copy of the ebook in exchange for my honest review

Beautiful photographs for each recipe. Each recipe is clear and concise with easy to follow directions. The recipes are provided in a way that makes them appear that one could be successful in making any of them. I have other cookbooks that make Korean food feel very difficult to make, this doesn’t appear that way. Excited to make some of the recipes! I will also definitely follow Aaron’s You Tube channel.

“If you’ve always wanted to make your favorite Korean dishes at home, Simply Korean is for you. With streamlined techniques, minimal ingredients, and clear instructions, Aaron and Claire show you the easiest way to make fried rice, bulgogi, kimchi, and more.”

As I’ve been following YouTube’s Aaron and Claire for years, the second I came across this offering, my brain promptly supplied, “Don’t worry about it!” The author’s signature voice is stamped on every page, and I am here for it.

Seriously, this cookbook is a delight.

It’s beautiful, first of all. The pictures are both informative, visual appealing, and delicious-looking. Even if you cook zero things within its pages, this book will spark both joy, and gastric juices (too much?).

It’s also accessible. I know Aaron is a former chef, but this, unlike other cookbooks I’ve owned, makes me feel impowered, versus inadequate. I read a recipe and think, “I might not be able to match Aaron’s match-sticking ability, but I can totally do this.”

One of my favourite parts is the list of Korean Pantry Basics. If you don’t know where to start, start there.

I’ve tried a few of the recipes (my family was particularly taken with Dakgalbi (Spicy Chicken Stir-Fry), La Galbi (BBQ Short Ribs) and Dubu Gagnjeong (Sweet and Crunchy Tofu).

A few I’m looking forward to trying are Kimchi Bibim Guksu (Spicy Cold Kimchi Noodles), Kkwabaegi (Twisted Doughnuts) and having a make-your-own Gimbap (Seaweed Rice Rolls) party with the kids.

My only teeny-tiny criticism is that the main Table of Contents only has basic chicken/beef/seafood titles, where I prefer a list of recipes under each heading. This is partially redeemed at the beginning of each chapter, but I really do like to see the whole cookbook at-a-glance. It makes meal planning so much easier.

All in all, this book will be a stunning addition to my, and anyone’s, collection.

9/10

Thanks to NetGalley and DK Publishing for this sweet and spicy ARC.

This cookbook is informative and gives clear, detailed directions. I really enjoy Korean food and don’t have the luxury of having any Korean restaurants near me so I’m excited to try some of the recipes myself!

We love watching Maangchi videos.
We have had Kimchi and Kimchi pancakes from Costco.
Having enjoyed cole slaw, I will try making instant kimchi at home for all its fermented and probiotic goodness. All those neatly cut arrangements in bibimbap are definitely inspiring to make. True to the preface of the book, all the recipes have fewer ingredients and simple steps. One of the balls of rice looked so aesthetic. All the pictures are inviting to try out the recipe. I dont think I have seen a simpler book for someone who is new to Korean cooking and wants to try something easy.
If you are wondering about the dish on the cover of the book, its rice cakes and there's royal version of it too.
I guess we now have to watch Aaron's videos

First off, thanks to NetGalley and DK for this fantastic arc, and an extra thanks to DK for publishing this cookbook!! I've been watching Aaron and Claire's channel for a few years now, and having watched it grow from the slightly awkward beginner videos to what it is now, and with a cookbook to boot - I'm so happy for them! They've worked so hard (ok maybe Aaron a little more so haha) to get to this point and I'm really happy for and proud of them 🥲

These recipes all look so dang easy and quick, and a few I know already are delish from making them from the youtube channel! I love the guide to basic Korean staples at the beginning of this book, and I really appreciate how he always stresses to use what you have, not to go and buy some fancy ingredients you might only use once. The recipes are easy to follow, and the pictures are gorgeous! I don't buy many cookbooks as I tend to just look at them but not make anything, however I already know I'm going to be making many recipes from this book 😀

One of the things I love most about this book is that every recipe has a picture. Everything sounded amazing, and Huh does a great job clearly explaining how to execute each dish. And there was an entire section on kimchi, which made my little Korean heart happy.

I absolutely loved how the recipes were simple and the title "simply korean" really brought simplicity to korean food which I absolutely loved. I also enjoyed how the cook book was simple itself and did not have any random pictures and fonts!

Beautiful cookbook with images for every recipe and a great variety of dishes including chicken, seafood, street food, and more. Thank you so much NetGalley for the ARC!

Excellent cookbook with so many good recipes and amazing pictures!

This cookbook checks both boxes that I believe makes a cookbook great.

1. It has approachable recipes. While there may be some specialized ingredients it isn't full of expensive and hard to find ingredients. Instead, you will find the recipes to be delicious, easy to make and most ingredients you will already have in your pantry or at a local grocer.

2. It has great pictures. Nothing is worse than a cookbook that doesn't have pictures of each dish. I want to know what it should look like and gain inspiration by flipping through the pages. This cookbook has a fantastic photo for each dish that had me marking page after page of delicious looking meals.

Every recipe I have tried thus far has been enjoyable and easy to make with some of the recipes, such as Cho Ganjang (Korean Vinegar Soy Sauce) quickly becoming a family favorite.

Highly recommended!

Are you looking to broaden your home cooking horizons beyond Mexican and Italian dishes? Look no further than Simply Korean, a Korean cookbook that is truly simple.

I have never cooked, and rarely eat, Korean food. But I’m tired of my usual dinner menu. This cookbook translates traditionally obscure ingredients into items at your neighborhood grocery. Many of the recipes used ingredients I already have at home. Other items were easy to substitute like thin-sliced carne asada for bulgogi meat. The recipes themselves also include westernized substitutions like cornstarch for glutinous rice flour.

Though none of the recipes included nutritional information or indicated special dietary restrictions, full-color photographs were provided. Overall, Simply Korean is an easy and inexpensive way to include some Korean food into your life. 4 stars!

Thanks to Alpha and NetGalley for a digital review copy of the book.

For fellow fans of the popular “Aaron and Claire” Youtube channel, we finally have many of those delicious recipes we’ve been introduced to bound all together in a gorgeous cookbook that we can now easily keep and access in our own kitchens.

For newcomers, don’t worry if you’re not in the know yet. Prior familiarity isn’t necessary, for without it you’ll still have this excellent collection of dishes that are laid out in easy steps, extremely manageable ingredient lists, mouth-watering photographs, and overall just does a marvelous job of fulfilling its mission of putting dishes in as close reach to home cooks as it possibly can.

Korean favorites made simply and with as few steps as possible. A good start for those interested in trying new things, with more of the basic recipes included. Want to learn to make bebimbap or japche? This cookbook is a good place to start.

As a first generation Korean American, I grew up on some of these recipes. Made differently because no Korean momma actually measures their spices with anything other than their eyes and their love. Being able to recreate some of the dishes that I had as a child and, even better, be able to make for my mom has been amazing.

I made 3 different recipes and the nostalgia of a homemade meal vs a restaurant made meal was there. My mother watched what I was doing as I made the Kkaennip Muchim (Perilla Leaves) which is a staple on my table and trying to buy them remade has been terrible. LA Galbi, which is my all time favorite main meal. I eat that every chance I get!

Finding a cookbook that is as helpful as this one has been is amazing. Thank you for the chance to review it.

The beginning of the book gives a nice, quick overview of recommended materials for cooking Korean dishes.
The biggest strength of this cookbook for me is how simple the recipes and instructions are. I didn’t feel overwhelmed going through them, and I don’t think I’d have any problems making any of them without previous experience with cooking Korean dishes. There is a good variety of recipes included in this book. Anyone interested in cooking Korean foods should be able to find at least a couple of recipes that they would find appealing, and I think this book would be a great starting point for those with little to no experience. I am not familiar with the author, but the book mentions that his wife and him have a YouTube channel, so fans of their channel will probably enjoy this book.

Gorgeous mouthwatering cookbook!

Simply Korean by Aaron Huh is a beautiful cookbook that features Korean dishes you can try to make at home. I love Korean food! I often visited South Korea and had a lot of fun trying out different dishes, and most of my favorites are in this cookbook!

This book has lovely photos of the dishes you can try to make at home. I appreciate how food is categorized, with the book starting with banchan (side dishes) and ending with street food. Korean street food is fantastic and delicious, by the way, and so filling!

The instructions are easy to follow, many of the ingredients are familiar enough in most households, and some ingredients are common enough to find in Asian groceries. I especially love the banchan section of the book, and it reminds me of all the side dishes served in Korean restaurants. Chicken-mu (Korean pickled radish), mechurial jangjorim (soy sauce-braised quail eggs), eomuk bokkeum (stir-fried fish cake) are a few of my favorites.

Jjimdak (soy sauce-braised chicken), Tangsuyuk (Sweet and sour pork), and Jjajangmyeon (noodles with black bean sauce) are my favorite Korean food too. And ALL the soups in the book are a must-try; I tried them in Korea and loved them! I’m looking forward to trying my hand at making them all. Eomuktang (Fish Cake soup) is the easiest, so I started with it and enjoyed it.

I love this cookbook and highly recommend checking it out.

Thank you, NetGalley and publisher, for the advance copy.

Aaron and Claire have been a go-to for me when it comes to Korean food. I was so excited for the opportunity to preview their cookbook! First of all, it's beautiful. It's clean and bright, making it enjoyable to flip through. Secondly, this book has it all! It covers all of the basics when it comes to traditional Korean food and then some! Although I haven't made anything from this book since getting access from Netgalley, I have followed their recipes in the past and they were incredible! I can't wait to delve into ones in this book!

I love getting Korean cookbooks. I always grade them against my family's recipes and there are some books that make me question if they should have called the food Korean...they should have really called it 'fusion'.

Not this book; this book seems straight from home. The ingredients are common items found in any asian home/market and the methodology clear and concise. Picture are great, as are Claire's comments!

A great introduction to making Korean food.

Such a fun cookbook! Found so many recipes I can't wait to try! Really love how it has a section for foundation sauces at the beginning. Lot's of variety the photos are great and the recipes seem simple enough to follow! Will definitely need a copy of this for home and will recommend it to friends and family!

Great recipes and photos. I wish there were more vegetarian options included. Lots of recipes for Korean staples. I will definitely buy a copy.

Simply Korean is a stunning cookbook. There is a photo for each recipe that makes me salivate even before I read the description or ingredients. There are even photos for all of the Korean essential ingredients that we may need to source so that we make sure to purchase the right products. Many of the recipes use these same essentials (in differing amounts and combinations) so don’t fear that a purchase will go to waste.

The chapters are easily navigated and each chapter lists its recipes. Each recipe has commentary from Aaron, with Claire adding her sage words every now and then. I had not known of the authors or their blog before finding this cookbook; I will certainly be seeking them out. I thank the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book to review.

Want to thank Netgalley and publishers for giving me the chance to read this book. First thing is first I gave this book major points for having a picture for EVERY dish! I cannot stand when a cookbook gives you recipes but no pictures. I would love to see what you want me to cook/bake. The pages were nice and clean. The only sad part is the lack of desserts. Even one or two would have been good but we didn't get much. Maybe one or two in street foods. Either way loved this book!

This collection is a great introduction to the staples of Korean food. The recipes are easy to follow and each one is accompanied by a photograph. It's certainly a collection that is going onto our favorites shelf in the kitchen.

Love Korean food? It has enjoyed a surge of popularity in the last few years. Anyone who wants to learn to cook Korean food will want to pick up Aaron Huh’s Korean cookbook, Simply Korean: Easy Recipes for Korean Favorites That Anyone Can Make. This excellent cookbook has recipes for all of the classic popular dishes such as Bulgogi, Bibimbap, and Galbi, as well as dozens of mouthwatering not-so-well-known dishes.

The recipes are easy-to-follow and are presented in the traditional manner, so everyone can follow them whether a beginning cook, or an experienced cook. There are explanations at the beginning of the cookbook that covers the different ingredients that might not be familiar to most. The ingredients can be obtained at most Asian grocery stores, and with the popularity of Korean food, some mainstream regular grocery stores.
There is a beautiful photograph of almost every recipe, which makes it difficult to decide which recipe to make next. Korean food lovers will end up with a queue for preparing meals for weeks.

All told, anyone who wants to cook simple Korean foods will want to add this excellent cookbook their cookbook collection. Highly recommended.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

So many exciting recipes, each with its own beautiful photograph. The photos were enough to get me excited about trying every recipe in the book. But the real selling point is that the recipes are surprisingly simple to make.

Aaron Huh has done a fantastic job of demystifying Korean cuisine and making it accessible to everyone.
