Description
Patients facing a cancer diagnosis often feel at the mercy of an illness they don't understand and in the hands of doctors offering treatments that focus on the cancer, instead of on the patient. In Holistic Cancer Care, Chanchal Cabrera, a consulting medical herbalist with more than 20 years specializing in holistic oncology, provides an in-depth guide to using herb-based therapies in conjunction with conventional treatments. Putting the patient front and center, holistic therapies can help boost the immune system, which can slow the spread of certain cancers and, in some cases, even enhance the cancer-killing effects of chemotherapy. Herbal medicine and other therapies also offer effective ways of dealing with the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation. Drawing from decades of clinical experience helping patients recover from cancer, Cabrera provides a wealth of safe, well-researched information, including specific herbal formulas, important discussions about dosing and safety, detox protocols, recommendations for nutritional supplements, simple recipes for nourishing meals, and patient case histories that demonstrate the power of the strategies she recommends.

I have lost several family members (dad, grandmother and grandfather) along with several friends. So I was very very interested in this book. I thought the book was very informative and I think is helpful. I have a friend currently going through a battle with cancer and hasn't started treatment yet so I am going to be passing this information on to her.
I just reviewed Holistic Cancer Care by Chanchal Cabrera. #HolisticCancerCare #NetGalley

A Must Have
Cancer is one of those deadly diseases, which one dreads being told that they or a love one has. In this book, Chanchal Cabrera has outlined it into two parts:
1. Holistic Strategies for Patients and Caregivers
2. For the Practitioner and Herbal Prescriber
The first part of the book discusses healthy lifestyle choices and how to maximize general health, strength, resilience, and resistance measures in your life using herbs and targeted nutrition. Preparation and recovery from surgery, optimizing chemotherapy, managing pain, and the author provides a wide variety of herbs used in cancer care.
The second part of this book is for practitioners, it describes how to formulate with herbs, how to use the cytotoxic herbs, how to use herbs with chemotherapy, targeted nutrition for specific purposes, and case studies from his clinic.
The author defines holistic cancer care as a patient-centered, evidence-informed field of cancer care that utilizes mind and body practices, natural products, and/ or lifestyle modifications from different traditions, alongside conventional cancer treatments. He further states that integrative oncology aims to optimize health, quality of life, and clinical outcomes across the cancer care continuum and to empower people to prevent cancer and become active participants before, during, and beyond cancer treatment.
This book is a woman's bible for the care before being told she has cancer, possible treatment of various methods, and post care after surgery, if performed. The author, also, discusses self care for the patient and the family by recommending and providing many herbal remedies and recipes.
The author provides recipes, formulas, and extensive resources for finding practitioners and products and a detailed glossary.
This book is intended for the practitioner or the healthcare professional who wants to integrate herbal medicines into their clinical competencies. Additionally, it is for anyone, who have been or is currently, unfortunately, experiencing any form of cancer and who may be in search of various treatments and options for natural approaches to cancer. Highly recommend.
