Description
Author Sarah J. Gardner has made it her mission to help others find their creativity and inspiration through mixed-media art. In Share Your Joy, she offers her idea for how to share joy via handmade postcards, note cards, and other items that can be mailed to anyone around the world and put a smile on their face. That’s where Sarah gets her joy, and with the techniques and step-by-step projects in this book, she will help you find it too.
Working on papers you have painted and that can be drawn and painted over (what Sarah calls “art papers”), you will learn to use collage, stenciling, found objects, watercolor and acrylic paints, and more to create art to share with others.
Included in the book are:
- Step-by-step projects for making shareable art
- Interviews with “art swappers” who’ve sent and received art for years
- Inspirational prompts, quotes, and affirmations to keep your creativity levels up
- Suggestions for how to make inspirational journals and sketchbooks to work inside
Experience the fun and happiness of making shareable, mixed-media art with Share Your Joy!

This is such a fun book. She offers all kinds of creative ways to make gorgeous crafting papers and then lots of ways to use them. My daughter would love some of these. I wish there were more projects that aren’t just paper items like postcards and ATCs but I can come up with my own new ways to use them. This is a book I think my daughter would love and it inspired me to want to do all kinds of creative art.
I read a temporary digital ARC of this book via NetGalley.
These projects are not just fun, but very simple!
Going over the pages and projects I couldn't help but smile. They made me happy! I look forward to trying out these new techniques in my own mixed-media journal.
Loved this book as it is very close to the art I make! Lovely clear photographs and great tips throughout this book.
Would buy this in hard copy to add to my mounting number of craft books.
Well done to the author!
Many thanx to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for allowing me to read and review this lovely book
I read this through *twice* and spent the day doing all of the suggested things the second time; that’s how much I loved this book. So many creative prompts and ideas for your creative practice. Although this book is about creating art to share, it’s full of mixed media techniques for you to try. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys making things, even if you’re a beginner.
Thank you to NetGalley and to Walter Foster Publishing for this ARC.
I love this book so much! Everything about it: the colors, the layers, the projects -- it all sparks joy for me and makes me itch to try the projects for myself.
I love how everything is explained in a easy-to-follow step-by-step way, with project materials clearly listed and examples of each step. I can see myself following the steps to create my own variations, and the gorgeous colors and designs make me want to drop everything to start now.
I have always wanted to try mixed-media projects, and have even collected most of the supplies in this book, but I get tripped up with actually creating the layers. But now I feel confident that I could use this book as a guide to get through that and really start creating.
I think this is going to be one of those art books that I have to own, that I can flip through to get my creative juices flowing.
I also love how every project in the book is designed with the concept of giving it away in mind. Postcards, Artist Trading Cards, Envelopes, Journals... It encourages you to create and then give it away to share the joy (and prevent hoarding).
A must-have if you're looking to get into mixed-media.
*Thanks to NetGalley, Quarto Books, and Walter Foster Publishing for providing an early copy for review.
Thanks to Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group for access to this arc in exchange for my honest review.
If you like crafts such as me, this book will offer you hours of joy trying out ways to have fun with simple things like paper and paint. It looks simple enough and no special talent to make. I think I will enjoy doing quite a few of those.
