A World Full of Winter Stories

This is such a wonderful collection of folktales from around the world. I was so excited to see several stories I grew up with and can pass on to my own children now.

Each story tells you where it originated and are categorized by theme.

The illustrations are absolutely beautiful. I love to style of art they used and how beautifully unique to each story they are.

If you are familiar with Angela McAllister’s work then you already know it’s top notch. We have been a fan of all her other volumes. It’s so nice to see a collection of winter stories that aren’t all holiday themed. This is the perfect book for dark and long January nights to share with your child. My 11 year old daughter also liked reading it on her own.

A wonderful book filled with stories from different cultures around the world. This book was a joy to read and the illustrations were beautiful and captivating. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

The kids and I previewed A World Full of Winter Stories by this week. This beautiful book is filled with winter stories, folktales and legends from places like Kazakhstan, Scotland, Germany, Denmark, and several from North American tribes, such as the Ojibwa and the Iroquois. It’s quite an eclectic assortment of stories, including a few Christmas tales.

The illustrations by @olgabaumart are sweet and colorful, and the stories are quick, fun reads.

You may have noticed A Stage Full of Shakespeare Stories in our lineup for this year. This series of children’s anthologies are such treasures. Wouldn’t this one be a sweet Christmas present for a family, or a cozy read aloud on cold winter nights?

Get yourself ready to be star struck starting from the first story all the way from Japan! I would say most of the stories are limited to only a few countries as they are based on specific themes like “Ice and Snow”. However, you will be amazed and will love the entire book as I do!

I love this collection of stories. If a book can emit ambiance this is one that does. All I want to do is curl up by the fire with cozy socks and a hot drink and flip through these stories from around the globe and admire the beautiful illustrations.

I enjoyed how the stories were split into different sections and each one was headed with where in the world it originated. My absolutely favourite part was the gorgeous drawings to go alongside each story, I would highly recommend.

This fairytale book was interesting to read as it contained many stories from many nations around the world—around the winter season theme— really great way to expose your children to other cultures! .
The illustrations are nice and have a traditional old fashioned feel to them. The stories teach lessons including but not limited to those of morality, kindness, and generosity. There are stories of varying length and you can pick and choose a story based on your child’s age and focus level great for children age 4-9 . As it can appeal to children of many ages this book could be a great resource for educators and parents alike. A classic book for any families home library ! This is definitely a book I will be adding to my collection -- Recommended !

I absolute loved A World Full of Winter Stories, winter time has always had a warm and cosy place in my heart and this book is a perfect pairing with hot cocoa. I love how each story shows their different origins. The stories are so beautiful and each story has beautiful illustrations. This is the perfect book to read every year during the winter and perfect for any age, young and old. I loved A World Full of Winter Stories and will absolutely come back to this book over and over again each holiday season or whenever I just need a cosy read that feels like a warm hug.

This is such a lovely book full of stories from around the globe that revolve around the winter season. Its stories include quests, stories of ice, stories of animals, tall tales and even fables. Perfect for reading on a winter’s night! The illustrations are stunning and capture the heart of each tale. Our family cannot wait to add this to our home library!

Given how many feral rabbits have been hanging out in my neighborhood, I had to chuckle when the very first story, from Japan, was how rabbits came to be. Then there was the Siberian story of how a snoopy rabbit/hare got long ears. Somehow, my "rabbit alert dog" wasn't impressed but I was. These stories are delightful, colorfully illustrated and many seemed to focus on the concept of "we are better together".

Separated into sections, this is one of the first cold weather related collections I've read that didn't focus almost entirely on the Christmas or holiday season. But, don't worry. The closing chapter contains several Christmas focused stories. All are traditional stories from various cultures, wonderfully, imaginatively illustrated, and can be easily read to a child in one sitting. You may feel ready to curl up in a mitten, like the creatures of the Ukrainian tale, as you read, however. Fun book.

A book of winter-themed short stories that enjoy with your children. A few of the stories that stood out the most to my family and me were Mother Holle, The First Evergreens, and The Wind, the Clouds and the Snow. I love the diversity of the stories. We are given stories and illustrations of Norse Gods, Christmas feasts, wicked witches and many more.
Great family read and a book I would recommend many times over.

I'm currently looking to update my collection of anthologies and this one will certainly be on my list. I loved the diverse collection of wintery stories from around the world, especially The Mitten from the Ukraine. The illustrations are vibrant, colourful and certainly child friendly. I think this will soon become a favourite with adults and children alike. I can't wait to purchase my own copy and to use it for our Winter reading event.

This book was so adorable, I loved everything about it, the illustrations were so well done, they suited the book perfectly, the story was amazing as well, even thought is very short I could really connect with the characters. A World Full of Winter Stories is a beautiful and inclusive anthology for middle grade readers, or to be read to younger children. I loved "thumbing" through the volume and seeing such a wide array of tales. I loved that these stories represent a much more diverse array of themes within winter than our standard holiday stories. The illustrations are bright and lovely, I think this would be a great classroom resource as well, allowing kids to connect to different stories for different needs or interests.

If I were to describe this book in a short sentence it would be 'A warm and cozy tales hidden in a well written book'.

I've always been a fan of folktales, and this book did not fail to appease my expectation. Filled with 50 stories collected from different countries, therefore making it richer in terms of culturally-influenced folktales.

Apart from being culturally rich, Im glad that the author chose to visually accompany each tale with vibrant illustrations.

I think it is a worthy read, since we get to learn more about other cultures on top of enjoying a magical yet abundant reading experience.

To be honest, I think it would be a lovable reading material not only for children but also adults who wish to rekindle their mind with light yet heartwarming reading material, and not to forget, sparking their inner child again. Believe me, it does, I myself am a 23 years old girl and truly enjoy this book back to back. Give it a shot, you might like it!

What a great idea for a book.

How wonderfully researched bringing and contributing stories together that cover so many cultures and traditions.

I was delighted to read recurring themes to explain the origin of winter traditions, the season’s elements of frost, cold and snow.

A joy to share a book so full of life and fun, even when touching on the more darker tales. The illustrations are a real compliment to the text and add to the over quality and reading experience of each unique tale.

Split into distinct themes this will be a timeless addition for any children’s library and especially in demand once Summer has ended. The translations into English are free flowing and the text happily journeys on without any difficulties.

My grandchildren were in held in wrapped attention and loved each fresh departure and journey around the globe to find new and interesting stories.

There is a magic and a real sense of joy in these traditional tales that transcend any political boundaries and will unite children across the world.

I really enjoyed the variation of stories - I really feel like I learn so much about different cultures when I read these stories. The illustrations, as always, are brilliant and beautiful to look at.

What a beautiful book! Stories from around the world, written in the format of a favored Aesop's Fables book I had as a child, these wonderful short (about a page) stories teach a bit of lore and life lessons as well. Beautiful illustrations! What a joy to look at and read. :)

Absolutely wonderful! A World full of Winter Stories is a whimsical collection of folk tales from all over the world offering education and diversity. They are short and simple enough for children to enjoy but still charming for an adult. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous and create such a cozy and magical experience. I can just imagine bringing this book out and sitting by a fireplace on a snowing winter night.

Written in the same format as the author's previous anthologies of folktales, the book is comprised of six themes including Birds and Beasts, Ice and Snow, Spirits and Magic, and others. Both the table of contents and the individual story titles clearly state the country/culture from which each tale originates. The stories range in length from 1 to 3 pages. The illustrations by Olga Baumert are visually stunning and the perfect accompaniment to author's text.

Angela McAllister's previous anthologies of folktales have been ones that my family continues to reach for on our bookshelves and I look forward to adding a World Full of Winter Stories to our collection.

Great to see a Winter addition to this series. I have many of these in my classroom and use them often as they are the perfect length for end of day storytime in KS2. Missed the download date to read this unfortunately but it has gone on my Christmas list instead!

I love this whole this whole series and personally own them all, along with have them in my library stacks for patrons. I enjoyed reading these stories and will be reading these out loud to my almost 8 year old this winter. I learn such amazing new stories from this stories, and the different cultures that are highlighted brings such depth to different story telling.

Such a great book! I read it to my nephews and all of us enjoyed it a lot. I will buy the physical copy and would love to read more from you.

We all love the "World Full of..." books in my house so it goes without saying that we were very excited to read and review the latest instalment. The illustrations in Winter Stories are so beautiful and dreamlike that I can't wait to purchase a hard copy for our home library. In terms of the stories, you get a great mix from various cultures around the world including some familiar tales and even more that are completely new to us. Another solid collection of children's tales that we will enjoy for years to come.

This series continues to be one of our favorite bedtime reads. The stories are short but lovely, spur on lots of discussions and lend themselves well to following rabbit trails. My kiddo particularly liked that the stories focused on animals, and then we could learn more about that animal, as well as that they were stories from particular parts of the world. This would align beautifully with homeschool curriculums like Torchlight or Build Your Own Library. Absolutely loved. My son's favorite was The Snow Man, a story from Denmark. A World Full of Winter Stories is the perfect book to read as the seasons are changing and we are closer to winter and snow. It’s a delightful collection of winter stories and tales from around the world and many different cultures and I loved the fable-like quality to the stories. I read a couple of the stories to my 2-year old, but mostly just enjoyed them for myself and would recommend the book to adults and children-alike. Well done, as always! If you have read the others in these series you will recognize the layout and beautiful illustrations. Once again, it does not disappoint. Enchanting stories that expand our world view and understanding of cultures from all over the world. We each had a favorite and I could see us reading these yearly in the winter. My personal favorite was Rainbow Crow. It also had beloved classics like The Mitten. This is a great addition to your winter bookshelf.

I think I have all of the books in this series, and this one is on my pre-order list already.

This book stands out from the rest in the series in terms of writing flair. Winter is a magical season, so I am sure that this will be a hit among my students too.

This is a sweet anthology of winter-themed short folk stories taken from cultures around the world. The stories average one to two pages, so short and sweet, and are accompanied with the most gorgeous and charming illustrations. Some stories were familiar and some were brand new to me. My young children were highly interested and loved snuggling up to a few of these stories each night.

Loved this!! There were so many stories I'd never heard before as well as some I was familiar with. The artwork was amazing. This would be a great holiday book to read with kids, or even just something light for yourself.

Review of A World Full of Winter Stories
Our first experience with this series and author was the book “A World Full of Spooky Stories“ published in 2019 which we read during Halloween and thoroughly enjoyed. When we had to opportunity this year to review “A World Full of Winter Stories“ there was no hesitation, we knew this was going to be the perfect book for bedtime reading. The stories were entertaining, and fun, and a few were so silly I even had a laugh. Personally, I enjoyed the story from Scotland “Alexander Jones“, from the “Tricks and Troubles” chapter.

Having read two of the nine books of the “World Full Of…” series I can say there is a book for everyone in this collection. These books are great to keep as a collection or to pick for either seasonal reading, or following any interests the children in your life have. You can compare some stories from different parts of the world to stories you were told as a child, and see the differences if any from the stories shared.

This book is exactly as described with 50 winter stories from all over the world. There are also illustrations throughout. The stories are broken down into 5 different sub genres and each story tells you where is originated.

I loved this book! The stories and illustrations were adorable. I viewed this one electronically so I bet they are even better in person! The stories were all very short so I think this would be great for a young child. The stories really get you into the winter mood. Even the font that is used is really cute. I liked how the stories all ranged from around the world; it is always interesting to me to see stories from other countries.
