Weird and Wonderful Nature

A book full of fun facts and information about species both in plants and animals (and some non-living like rocks)! Each section has a different theme like "phenomena" and has pictures to go along with the facts. Great for your budding nature lover, but beware there are some creepy crawlies in there!

SUCH a cool book! Fascinating stories, brilliant illustrations that are clear and detailed, well organized, easy to read and wonderfully descriptive. My son (4) and I absolutely love to read these types of collections together…and this one has been a huge hit with the both of us.

This adventurous and dazzling new addition to the DK Treasures collection may be the most enticing to young readers yet. This series shouldn't be simplified to fall under a title such as "children's science book" or "nonfiction for kids." It packs so much more detail, intrigue, and value.

My single critique of our other favorite in the series (The Wonders of Nature), and this is super minor, is that the font chosen for the titles of each entry is hard for young readers to read clearly; it's kind of a loose, loopy handwriting font. I was glad to see they discontinued that trend in this book and each page is clear, attractive to the eye, and features gorgeous photos and illustrations.

This will be one I pick up at the bookstore for my science-curious kiddos, especially with the holidays coming up!

This was a really fun book! My son and I loved the pictures as well as all the really interesting facts about animals and nature. I highly recommend this for a child, who is into nature!

Every night my kids begged to read this book together. They loved all the illustrations and photographs as well as the interesting information we learned. It is such a great addition to any library. DK books are my kid’s favorite books and this one did not disappoint.

A copy of this book will be gifted to each of my grandchildren’s households this Christmas because every person living there will be enthralled with the contents of the 200-page collection. It represents some of the world’s most unique species, classifications, varieties, behaviors and phenomena that most of us—even advanced degree holding—have no clue. These engrossing true topics presented by Ben Hoare represent a study of the rarest examples on land, air and sea.

Among the extraordinary topics presented are: Zombie Ant Fungus (that eats ants from the inside out); Immortal Jellyfish (if not eaten as prey can live forever); Horseshoe Crabs (have blue blood that is used in medical research); See-through Frogs (these are called Glass Frogs); Pink Fairy Armadillos (have a hard pink shell with a fluffy white undercoat); lemurs (that leap 16-feet up in a single bounce); among many, many more fascinating examples.

This book is SO WEIRD! In the absolute best way. It really is wonderful. It is full of interesting, enthralling, and yes weird information. The photographs are beautiful and each page is well laid out. I love the layout of the book. Each page is laid out differently and features so much. My favorite might be the Lenticular Clouds and my least favorite is the frog eggs hatching from skin. That picture made me squirm and the kids thought it was hilarious.

There is a great glossary and index included which I always like seeing in a nonfiction book.

This is another wonderful installment in the DK Treasures series. The animals and plants featured in this book are truly weird and wonderful. Sometimes strange, sometimes creepy, often bizarre, there are so many that I had never heard of. Kiddo (9) and I greatly enjoyed learning about them.

Each one-page entry features a a few paragraphs of text and a large and detailed colorful illustration. This format makes it easy to read a few entries before bed, which makes for an excellent bedtime story for science- and nature-loving children.

Kiddo and I love this series and he often chooses them for bedtime reading because they are soothing and full of interesting information and pretty pictures to look at while listening.
