Description

Is this a pig of a legal drama?

Or more a story of how a pig might see our world?

Emmie is a part-time lawyer and a part-time farmer who finds she is in possession of a talking pig.

Odd? Yes. But this is only a part of the piggy story.

“Patrick White” as he calls himself questions our rules, our religions and our politics. He is curious and clever and he often finds human behaviour incomprehensible.

Patrick White ends up in court as an expert witness about porcine behaviour. After all, the world needs to know his side of the story. When he meets a royal dignitary, the piggy tail takes another twist.

Patrick has his own views about human behaviour.

Can you imagine what they are?

Dare you find out?

Is this a pig of a legal drama?

Or more a story of how a pig might see our world?

Emmie is a part-time lawyer and a part-time farmer who finds she is in possession of a talking pig.

Odd? Yes. But...

Pigs are a favorite farm animal of mine. An unusual admission when I also admit they are my favorite scent, but when your grandfather owns a pig farm, these things happen.

The world according to Patrick White is a book that my grandfather would have found ridiculous and my grandmother would have read. I think she would have enjoyed it much like I did. It's about a pig, Patrick, who learns to talk English and a little bit of legalize.

Patrick lives on a standard pig farm, before he is moved to live with Emmie and her family. Emmie is a farmer and a lawyer who represents other farmers in important matters. When Patrick learns to speak, he finds himself taking part in a animal rights vs farmer case.

This is a story written for adults that still captured that part of me that loved reading Charlotte's web as a kid. It was entertaining and insightful. And as an added bonus it takes place in England. Five squeals for this book!

This was a short but very enjoyable read. I don't believe it is a children's book but it could be.
The premise is that one day percival the pig decides he would quite like to talk.
The story us how the family reacts, how the media reacts and how he reacts to the human world. This is a sweet story.
Thank you to netgalley for providing the ARC.

Suzanne Stephenson presents a charming and whimsical tale in The World According to Patrick White, where a talking pig named Patrick challenges societal norms and explores the complexities of human behavior. As part-time lawyer and farmer Emmie finds herself in possession of this extraordinary pig, readers are treated to a delightful narrative that blends humor, insight, and a touch of legal drama. Through Patrick's observations and interactions, the story prompts reflection on ethics, communication, and compassion, offering a unique perspective on the world. While some may find the conversations between Patrick and humans lacking in depth, the book nonetheless delivers an enjoyable reading experience that appeals to both adults and those with a fondness for classic tales like Charlotte's Web. With its charming British sensibility and heartwarming moments, The World According to Patrick White leaves readers smiling and pondering the profound wisdom found in unexpected places.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'The World According To Patrick White' by Suzanne Stephenson.

Yet another absolutely delightful animal based book by the incredible Suzanne Stephenson!! I have thoroughly enjoyed several books by Suzanne which have all been based on animals so when I seen this book I just HAD to read it!! I am a massive animal lover and actually run my own little rescue from home called 'Golden Oldies Cat rescue And Hospice' which you can find on social media. Any books with animals in it is always a huge bonus for me and I absolutely adored this tale of Patrick White. This adorable story tells the tale of Emmie Martyn who is a solicitor who runs a small farm and her family. Emmie is married to Alain who is a barrister and they have 3 grown children, 22 year old Mathilda who is studying for the Bar, 19 year old Letitia who is doing a Law And Business Studies degree and 18 year old Aaron who is doing a Law and Sports Science degree. Emmie wakes up on 1st April waiting for Aaron to have left an April Fools trick laying around somewhere while he is away but has a bigger shock when she goes to the barn and their newest arrival to the farm Percival the pig starts talking to her. Percival tells Emmie that he would rather be called Patrick White so they change his name. Patrick is introduced again to the family as Patrick and the family are all told he can talk, some taking longer to believe it than others. Patrick starts learning more about his family and the human world from visits from the family and the workers as well as from the radio, TV and later laptop that is all set up for him. When Emmie's friend Jim Birkshaw needs to provide a pig expert at a court case after animal activists broke in and got injured then Patrick volunteers himself. Emmy and Jim as well as the rest of the family start preparing Percy for the court case while also celebrating Christmas together. What will happen if Patrick is called in to the Court? What could go wrong? Well, grab your copy of this absolutely delightful book to find out for yourselves and I promise that you will not regret it!! With a brilliant storyline filled with family, humour, animals, drama, dancing, singing, beer, Christmas and much more what on Earth are you waiting for?? Not only is the story absolutely fabulous but I also adored the cute illustrations throughout the book that were also done by Suzanne so a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Suzanne!! Not only are you an absolutely incredible storyteller but also a fantastic illustrator!!! The ending was lovely and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting not only Patrick White but also all the members of the Martyn family as well as looking at all the lovely illustrations throughout this book. It wasn't only myself who loved it but so did my 11 year old son Malaki and 7 year old twins Hunter and Ryder!! We absolutely adored meeting Patrick and the rest of the characters and am looking forward to meeting him and others again in his other book!! We absolutely devoured this book in one sitting as I just could not put it down! I was walking around with my kindle glued to my hands as I just had to keep going! The book is relatively short at just 132 pages and ideal to read curled up on the sofa with a cup of tea or stretched out on a deckchair on the beach with a glass of wine. Although this book is possibly aimed more for older children I am 37 years old and absolutely loved it so truly think any child or adult alike will love meeting Patrick and the gang!!! Wherever you are or whatever your age this book will definitely turn a frown upside down. I would recommend it to adults and children alike and definitely to every single animal lover!!! I am definitely looking forward to meeting Patrick again in Suzanne's other book 'Santa Pig: the Trials Of Patrick White' which I am off to read next so keep your eyes peeled for my review of that which is coming tomorrow!!

Congratulations Suzanne on an absolutely charming and adorable must read!!! I really cannot wait to get stuck in to your previous and future books!!!

This book is one of the sweetest animal books that I have ever read !!! This book really is a truly unique page turner that I picked up this morning and had completely devoured it in a couple of hours!!! I cannot wait to read more of your fantastic stories Suzanne!

Overall an absolutely charming, heart warming sweet story perfect for any and all animal lovers!!
