Such a great book to show how to draw step by step. Very easy instructions. Easy to follow and great results from following the steps. I also like that the new pieces to draw are in red to show easily the next step.
Faith Varavara is an absolute genius!
With step by step instructions and illustrations this book is easily used for anyone who is a beginner to intermediate artist or non artist like myself. This book was easy to follow and straight to the point without any confusing instructions. I cannot wait to incorporate what I have learned in my planner and recipe books just to jazz it up.
Thank you NetGalley and Rock Point for the arc in exchange for my honest review.
5⭐️s all the way!
Can’t wait to purchase a physical copy !
This has so many cute drawings and I cannot wait to try them. It is very easy to follow and great for children and adults.
My kids are 10 (boy) and 8 (girl) and they love this book! They love to draw and are always doodling all over everything. I gave them this on the iPad and they sat at the table for hours drawing different pictures. It was so nice to find something they could both do together.
Ah! I’m so excited about this book! Faith Varvara is the creator of the Bumbleberry Hollows Tarot, a deck I absolutely could *not* resist buying the first time I saw it a few years ago. Faith’s artwork and products feature a world of adorable and fluffy (and also slightly grumpy?) animals, and of course so. much. food. I clearly identify with ALL ASPECTS of this and want to imagine myself there at any given opportunity. So I’m really honored to have an advance copy of this doodle book.
I love so many things about Kawaii Doodle Café! Allow me to number the ways!
(1) The author/artist includes some very inclusive tips in the beginning of the book for selecting tools, drawing, and coloring that can be applied when you’re drawing anything—the items in this book or not!
(2) The author/artist invites us to think of the Kawaii Doodle Café as an actual café, so she sets the scene with a description of the space, the menu, the service, and the chefs!
(3) The first chapters are pastries and other sweets with “real” food saved for later chapters. I love that! Dessert first!
(4) Each food and drink has a brief and tantalizing description of its origin and ingredients. I learned a lot just by reading these descriptions! Lots of international inspiration from Japan, Korea, Italy, and France. These dishes are FANCY!
(5) The steps in the drawing process almost read like a recipe! By doodling these dishes, we’re drawing them into sweet existence!
(6) Some of the items build on each other and include page numbers for reference. For example, the instructions for Tomato Toast refer to the previous instructions for Slice of Bread, and the Strawberry Parfait page directs you to the instructions for the Parfait Glass first. I really love this particular element because it encourages the reader/artist to start experiment with combining elements into something original!
(7) The final drawing of each item is in full color, and the tips for coloring at the beginning of the book are easily visible. We can see how she applied those ideas, and that tidbit of info dropped in the beginning helps the reader/artist view complete artwork with a critical and appreciative eye!
BONUS: Even though this book is all about drawing food, Faith Varvara snuck in an opportunity to learn how to draw some of the Bumbleberry Hollows characters in the form of bear-, bunny-, and cat-shaped scoops of ice cream! This is awesome because I was a little disappointed at first that we wouldn’t get any advice on drawing those furry friends!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read in exchange for an honest review.
This book is so adorable! There are many food items to draw and the tutorials are simple and clear. I loge that there are many cultural food represented as well. Its nice not to be limited one cuisine. I would say this book is more for a 9+ age group. I can't wait to get a physical copy and test out more drawing!
This book is adorable!! It doesn't just teach you how to draw food and drinks in a cute style, but also tries to make the whole experience immersive and aesthetic and delivers some general tips for beginner artists (how to shade, how to sketch...)
I've already drawn five things (a muffin, an eclair, a slice of apple pie, a taiyaki and a swiss roll) and I could keep going, it's very relaxing
A cute step by step guide to drawing and doodling different foods from pastries to cake to savoy dishes.
Broken up into different categories, it's easy to navigate and suitable for all ages that like to draw from anyone wanting a challenge to learning to simply passing the time.
This is a short little book about how to make kawaii drawings - draw adorable desserts, snacks, meals, drinks, and more. It is not written as a story, it is mainly a simple & comprehensive guide to all the different drawings. Just as it's meant to, it is adorable, colorful, and lovely to look at, and it's perfect for people who want to learn to create simple but cute drawings.
Faith Varvara mentions at the beginning that she likes to create things that brighten people's day, and I think these drawings definitely achieve that. They are so pleasant to look at, and I would love to develop half the skill to make something that adorable. I've been wanting to learn to draw more for a while, and I will definitely use it to try new designs. The book also has a few coloring pages at the end where you can practice coloring and shading!
I highly recommend this book for people who love the kawaii style and want to learn to draw more. I will definitely buy a physical copy when it comes out.
One of my favorite things to do when I relax is scrolling through my Instagram feed, where I am following a lot of different artists who are drawing kawaii. Be it cats, food, etc.
I love that drawing style. It looks simple and appealing, and I am sad that I can't draw like that.
I loved the cafe theme in this book. On some of the first pages the author writes that she doesn't only want this to be a drawing experience, but also a food experience, and then describes the cafe ”The Kawaii Doodle Cafe”, those who work there, what atmosphere is at the cafe, etc. I could see the cafe for my eyes and loved that playful vibe. It fits the book where every page almost looks like a page of the menu card.
The pages are step-by-step drawings of food, drinks, and tableware. It shows how simple the kawaii art style is. It was inspiring.
I would wish that we also saw a step-by-step of the coloring, and heard some of the thoughts behind it to match the art style best because that's an important finishing step.
At the end of the book though, there are line drawings ready for you to practice coloring.
All in all, I am pretty pleased with ”Kawii Doodle Cafe” by Faith Varvara and inspired to try and get better at drawing my own kawaii food.
This is SO cute! I love drawing and cute things, especially food. It is perfect! Sometimes drawing full artworks feels to much and this book shows you step by step how to doodle cute food. I only saw the pictures so far so I cannot wait to get home and try out some of these!
Thank you Netgalley for this opportunity to take a peek! Can’t wait to grab a physical copy soon! Beautiful Book and easy step by step which my kids love.
This book was super super cute. I feel like it is a great instruction book on making the drawing designs. I think it would appeal to any age too. I practiced making some of them and actually would love to have the physical book. It is easy to follow and I love how it simply lays out what materials you need and what they are for. Great job. more more.
Okay, Faith Varavara!! Love this!! Full of step by step instructions and illustrations to draw kawaii style cafe doodles, this book was so fun! My kids and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves learning to draw some of our favorite cafe snacks and will be coming back to doodle some more! We also appreciated the intro to this style of drawing!
If you're a bullet journaler/planner or just someone who'd like to learn to draw better, this is an ideal book to have fun while you're at it! I expect beginners to intermediate artists will find this easy to follow along with and enjoy.
Thank you NetGalley and Rock Point for the DRC. All opinions are my own.
The cutest book with easy step by step tutorials showing you how to draw little snacks. My 11 year old and I like to doodle and this book is perfect. The steps are easy to follow and the drawings come out really good especially for two people who are not the best at drawing. There is such a huge collection of food items to draw and I really liked the idea at the back of the book of how you can combine the food items to make a plate of food etc.
A cute easy guide to drawing Kawaii cute cafe food such as desserts, snacks, drinks & more. The instructions are so simple and clear with easy to follow step by step instructions. Anyone of any skill level or age following this guide will be successfully drawing cute kawaii food in no time!
This book is too cute! A very practical guide to drawing things in the Kawaii style. It was simple and easy to follow, even for those of us who are not super artistically inclined. Loved this book, can't wait for more people to read it and try the drawings out.
I stumbled across this in the Read Now section and snatched it up! I'm new to drawing and I've been loving drawing books similar to How To Draw Super Cute Things by Bobbie Goods (which I also found on Netgalley!), and Faith Varvara's art fits that vibe. This book inspired me to get Procreate because that's what she uses to create her art and I've learned so much! Every tutorial in this book is easy to follow and I've learned some new techniques in Procreate because of it. I highly recommend it!
This book was super cute! I am not an artist by any means but I would love to try out some of these doodles.
