Peace through Prayer is a book I’m going to reread often because there is something in my DNA that causes me to see God as someone to be feared and avoided as much as possible. A woman in an undeveloped country said, on hearing the gospel for the first time, ‘I hoped there must be a God like that somewhere.’ There is. In a time of high anxiety and fear, this book and the God to whom it refers is the antidote . . . and a refreshing one. Read this book and give it to all your friends. -- Steve Brown, founder of Key Life Network, author of Laughter and Lament, and radio broadcaster

True inner peace is one of the rarest things to be found in our restless world. James Banks points the way to a fresh discovery of the supernatural peace God has promised His people. -- Jim Cymbala, senior pastor of The Brooklyn Tabernacle

This book about peace will give you peace! The rising anxiety of our age is treated as a puzzling symptom, something to be managed or controlled or even medicated. And yet few have connected rising anxiety with low levels of prayer. What if we were made to be in a praying fellowship with our heavenly Father? What if that were normal, and if you took normal away, we were left with anxiety, restlessness, and guilt—the modern depression trinity. James Banks takes us into the world of prayer. He looks at it from multiple angles, all of which ‘restore our soul’—that is, put it back into relationship with our heavenly Father where it belongs. The result? Peace. Peace we were made for. Peace that quiets our guilty consciences and calms our fears. A peace, as Jesus said, not as the world gives. -- Paul E. Miller, author of A Praying Life and A Praying Church

If you are like me, your heart longs for a conversational intimacy with God, to feel as though He is right there with you every moment, awake and asleep. This book helped me in surprising ways and I believe it can help you. James has such a conversational intimacy with the Scriptures that they pour out of every paragraph. This book might cause you to take your phone and your watch and put them out of sight, so that you can just be with God. A must-read! -- Robby Dilmore, The Christian Car Guy broadcaster and retreat leader

Occasionally I will read a book and think, I want to read this again. Peace through Prayer is one of those. In his newest book, James Banks combines rich biblical teaching about prayer with encouraging examples from his own life and from church history. The result is practical help for a more enjoyable and fruitful prayer life. Highly recommended! -- David Beaty, pastor of River Oaks Community Church and author of An All-Surpassing Fellowship and Keep Your Spiritual Edge

Reading Peace through Prayer feels like receiving an encircling hug from a safe and caring pastor—one who shares with you the life-changing, unconditional love of Jesus. Profound but accessible, this exploration into the gift of peace is one I recommend wholeheartedly. -- Amy Boucher Pye, retreat leader, spiritual director, and author of Transforming Love

Peace through Prayer is an encouraging and challenging book where James Banks takes stories from Scripture, stories from life, and the truth of Jesus and weaves them all together to point us to a peace that transcends understanding. James gives us practical ideas on how to incorporate prayer into our lives and allow God to lead us every day. This book is great for anyone who is looking to deepen their faith and trust in Jesus and learn how to lean on Him. -- Chris Sasser, pastor and author of Bags: Helping Your Kids Lighten the Load

"Peace through Prayer" by James Banks is fantastic spiritual literature amidst the vast sea of books. The book captivates with its thoughtful structure and intuitive formatting, making it a compelling companion for any prayer session.

Each chapter unfolds smoothly, with no need for prior knowledge, and it maintains a certain simplicity that welcomes all readers. The author's clear writing shines through. He articulates with ease, making the book accessible and engaging even for people who don't read a lot.

Clear headings, concise subsections, and well-organized content. The book contains quotes and easy-to-follow bible verses. You can open your bible and find everything without trouble. The "Pursuing Peace" section at the end of every chapter with prayer instructions (more of a gentle guide) was my favourite part of the book. "Peace through Prayer" by James Banks is a guide and a source of inspiration for those seeking help in their spiritual journey.

Moreover, the author's adeptness at presenting biblical truths to the modern world is praiseworthy. The book seamlessly bridges the gap, making the lessons applicable today. James Banks discusses the 'now', making the book relevant for us in our daily lives today.

Peace through Prayer by James Banks was a blessing to me. I used this as my nightly devotional - what better way to end the day than by reading about how to achieve peace with prayer? I found the authors writing style to be engaging and easy to understand. This book was jam packed with comforting biblical references, primarily using the ESV and NLT translations. It also included quotes from many renowned Christian authors, preachers, and theologians, such as C. S. Lewis, Charles Spurgeon, G. K. Chesterton, Oswald Chambers and others. I found the author's personal anecdotes to be meaningful, the chapter I found most impactful for myself was "Persevering in Prayer," and the part I found most helpful was the section that contained several scriptures with "prayer starter" at the end of each one.

I recommend Peace through Prayer to anyone looking to find peace in these turbulent times, and doesn't want a book that requires a degree in theology or dictionary and thesaurus to understand. It was a great way to drift off to sleep by praying and contemplating peace.

This is a book geared toward Christian readers who are looking for a sense of peace (just as the title notes). It consists of thoughtful sections on a variety of topics. Some of these include peace with the past or with worries or with rest, among others. Interspersed throughout the text are suggestions for things a person might do. One of the first of these is a suggestion to reread a quote from C.S. Lewis. There are also boxes throughout that make important points.

I think that this title will appeal to its intended audience.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Our Daily Bread Publishing for this title. All opinions are my own.

I love how it gives you examples from the Bible and you do not have to have a degree in Theology to understand. An Amazing Book

James Banks writes about the many ways we can find peace through prayer. He defines what prayer is and cites various scriptures whereas it is quoted that we will find peace by faith in God's love.

This book will guide you to a better understanding of God’s Word, and help you to live a more meaningful and stress-free life. It is a jewel for anyone desiring to grow closer to God. Highly recommend.

I enjoyed reading the relatable stories at the beginning of each section. I appreciated the many Biblical reminders of God providing peace. The end of each section provides recommendations on activities to do to further explore the ideas of the section. It's written well and is easy to read. It is a good resource to come back to every so often to remind ourselves of resting in God's peace and how to get there.

This book offers what it advertises. Its pastoral guidance on praying for healing is interesting and useful. I have found some of the things he says to be true in my Ministry too. "The peace that comes as we place ourselves under God's word is the result of His creative power and love, bringing strength and solutions we could never conceive of. Jesus is the Word through whom "all things were made" and the author of life itself." such powerful words, greatly appreciated. This is followed by the reminder that praying the words of scripture isn't some magic formula where if we say the right thing, God will answer. Instead it helps to build our relationship with God and allows us to draw peace and strength for God in our times of need.
