Description
The illuminating memoir of Academy Award-winning film director, screenwriter and author Neil Jordan.
Neil Jordan was born in Sligo in 1950. Having developed an early interest in culture, he studied Irish history and English literature at University College Dublin and became involved in its thriving student theatre scene.
At the age of 26, Jordan published his first book, Night in Tunisia, which won a Somerset Maugham Award and the Guardian Fiction Prize and established him as a rising literary star. As an acclaimed film director and screenwriter, his credits include Mona Lisa, Michael Collins and The Butcher Boy. In 1992, Jordan’s film The Crying Game won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and the BAFTA Award for Best British Film.
In his first memoir, Jordan takes us behind the scenes and shares the story of his life, family, relationships, friendships and career. Reflecting on both the ghosts of his past and his personal triumphs, Amnesiac is a deeply intimate account of one of Ireland’s greatest storytellers.
Advance Praise
'Amnesiac chronicles the life of a fascinating, ever-restless surgical mind – one appraised early on by Seán Ó Faoláin as akin to that of none other than James Joyce… Amnesiac is a galloping, scorching read – rich and nourishing in almost every way.' - Patrick McCabe
'Neil Jordan is a maestro of word and image… Amnesiac is a memoir about belonging, about Hollywood, about fathers, and the power of the artist to shape who we are even in these wildly uncertain times. Beautifully crafted, revealing, with a deadpan honesty, Amnesiac is a book that stands at the coalface of our times.' - Colum McCann
