Description
Evelyn Lassiter is a senior in high school, and she's sick of all the pressure and expectations. So she decides to teach her parents and her community a lesson. Running an underground campaign, she rallies her class -and the senior classes of other schools in Elviston County, Tennessee- and she gets herself elected sheriff. Her first act is to replace the 'Blue Lives Matter' flag that hangs at the department with a 'Black Lives Matter' flag. Her friends cheer her on, local news stations are watching, and Evelyn is proud of the little ripple she has created.
But with the job comes responsibility, and a potential to let everyone down that she never anticipated. A new designer drug called Blue 82 has found its way into the county. Multiple teenagers have overdosed. Her only ally in pinning down the source is a stoic, black deputy named Leo Paige. He lost his own bid for sheriff two years ago, with only fourteen votes, and is more than a little irritated by Evelyn's thoughtless brand of activism. But they must learn to understand each other to unravel the corruption of the past regime...
