Description
It’s no secret that modern life is not great for our health. Stress and sickness are on the rise and traditional Western medicine, with its overreliance on pills, drugs, and chemically derived substances, doesn’t always help. Still less does alcohol and other supposed “coping” mechanisms. It’s no wonder people are turning to adaptogens instead: herbs, roots, fungi, and other plants that have been used for centuries in traditional and ancestral medicine to help people adapt to stress and increase wellness. While it’s common to consume these potent plants as supplements, a better way—more sustainable and enjoyable way—is to incorporate them into your daily, monthly, and yearly diet. In Drink Up & Glow, master beverage creator Gaby Mylnarczyk will show you how to do just that and reap the astonishing benefits of these powerful plants.
In this fully photographed and illustrated book, Gaby pulls from her years of experience working behind bars and in kitchens—not to mention coping with her own health challenges—to create 75 adaptogenic recipes for drinks, tonics, shots, smoothies, shakes, mocktails, and more. Organized seasonally and rooted in Gaby’s point of view as a craft beverage maker, these recipes feature fresh produce, include zero alcohol, and incorporate the most popular and well-researched adaptogens of the day: ashwagandha, goji berries, holy basil, turmeric, rhodiola, lion’s mane, chaga, ginseng, and more.
From enlivening morning shakes and lattes to caffeine-free afternoon energy shots to soothing nightcaps and tisanes, these drinks are designed to flow with the natural rhythm of the day and help support a variety of health outcomes, including stress relief, immunity assistance, and improved mood, digestion, and sleep. A delightful collection of drinks that are both functional and delicious, the recipes include:
- Goji Berry Rhubarb Sour
- The Maca Fauxito
- Holy Basil Cucumber Lemonade
- Dirty Chaga Chai
- Relaxing Reishi Tisane
- Rising Sun Shake
- “Mind Embracer” Lion’s Mane Mule
- Mango Maca Lassi
- Gotu Kola Spritz
- Sangresandra “Margarita”
- Holy Rhodiola Smoothie Bowl
- Rosy Glow Horchata with Shitake & Velvet Bean
- And more!
Each chapter also includes a few recipes for gatherings and celebrations, for those times when you need to provide drinks for a crowd. Fun, colorful, and approachable, Drink Up & Glow is the perfect book for holistic health enthusiasts, beverage lovers, and people looking to stress less and live more.
Whether you’re in need of a cozy, warming beverage to soothe frazzled nerves, a cognitive pick-me-up to help with the 3 p.m. slump, or a tasty and relaxing refresher to celebrate the end of the day, Drink Up and Glow will have you drinking to your health.

The photography and illustrations in this book were stunning.
It was cool to learn the expanse of adaptogens, how each makes an impact and how to artfully create a drink that is beneficial to our overall function. I enjoyed that these drinks were broken out by seasonality and our needs as they arise in each season. Definitely took a lot of inspiration for ingredients to supplement my usual cold brew coffee routine, I'm excited to see if I can successfully recreate these drinks!
I’ve book considering beginning to use adaptogens but didn’t know where to start. This book offers a good base of information and delicious recipes!
This is such a beautiful and unique book! I love the photos and artwork, very tastefully done. It's great to see something this nicely executed done for alcohol- free drinks. As someone who drinks socially but has been increasingly more curious about limiting alcohol intake in my life, this book will be very helpful in making that switch. Half of the time I want a drink it is simply because of the social element, and the ability to have an eye pleasing and delicious cocktail (with health benefits) is a game changer!
It used to be that our non-alcoholic options for drinks when we went out were: Shirley Temple, soda water, or juice, or maybe if we were feeling really wild, a mix of ginger ale and juice. This sad list of sad drinks meant people who chose not to drink alcohol typically quietly suffered while their companions were served beautifully finished glasses of frothy, foamy, vibrant, umbrella and orange slice bejewelled masterpieces...with booze. Over the past decade, however, the tables have turned and nonalcoholic choices are flourishing at restaurants, bars, even at the local wine shop. Again, though, the choices seem often limited to overly sweet, under-carbonated beverages-almost always served in a can. This new book by former bartender Gaby Mlynarczyk, "Drink up & Glow", is a guide to making the best head-turning drinks that just so happen to be void of alcohol and in its place are healthful, meaningful, feel-good, adaptogenic ingredients.
Mlynarczyk's recipes encourage you to really explore adaptogens in the most fun way.. There's a recipe for an "American Pie Shot" containing among other ingredients, ginseng, fresh-pressed apple cider, and maple syrup that sounds delicious. And how can one not hop on the mushroom bandwagon and try out the "Dirty Chaga Chai" that contains ingredients like tea, plant-based milk, ginger, turmeric, chocolate, and chaga mushroom powder? The book is divided into seasons which helps in tracking down some of the ingredients and it features some absolutely gorgeous illustrations, as well as photos of perfectly mixed, tempting-looking drinks just waiting for you to have a sneaky sip from. For the winter section, there's a "Moringa Mulled Wine" which is packed with nutrients and the author notes that the moringa adaptogen has long been used as an "ally" to fight cognitive decline (p. 145). Imagine drinking to prevent, heal, or nourish? What a novel approach to the beautiful art of drink making.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The pictures in this book were wonderful and the drink recipes were unique and delicious!
This is a gorgeously done recipe book that explains the benefits of each key drink ingredient and lays out the steps in an manner that seems easy enough to replicate. I appreciate that each recipe yields one drink.
It is so difficult to reduce ingredients when they are written for batch production, but it feels easy enough to multiply a single serving recipe for more, if needed.
Above all, artwork is beautiful and adds to the energy of the book.
I learnt so much about herbs and adaptogens from this book! It gave me lots of ideas about how to incorporate these useful plants into many different styles of drinks. Definitely a resource worth having for anyone who wants to improve their health in a natural way.
It's amazing to see so many NA drink options that look so good! I also love that the recipes are separated out by season, and the pictures were so pretty!
A great book for non-alcoholic drinks. It shows great uses of adaptogens and motivates the reader to try fun drinks while at the same time charge your energy and relieve stress. I really like the chapters named after seasons and the drinks are well placed in these chapters. I also love the description (A-to-Z guide to adaptogens) that can be found at the beginning, so you instantly know what fits you the best for yur current mood! The illustrations, the writing and the photographs are amazing and I really suggest this book to everyone, especially to non-alcoholic drinks enthusiasts. My favourite drink out of these is the Elder Goji Berry Punch and the Lion's mane Vietnamese Coffee.
I received this book from the publisher and from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The opinions included here are my own.

*This is my honest review of an ARC of Drink Up & Glow by Gaby Mlynarczyk. Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publishing house.*
I was drawn to this book because I have always been curious about adaptogens. I just never really knew how to go about incorporating them into my routine. This book was so perfect. It gave great background info on the types and how to use them in non-alcoholic drinks.
Some of my favorite recipes from this book are the Holy Basil-Cucumber Lemonade, Lion's Mane Vietnamese Coffee (insert drool emoji), and the Burdock Bananas Foster Mai Tai, which sounds like 2 VERY different flavor profiles but oddly pair so well.
The photos in this book are beautiful. I personally find the Moringa Unicorn Latte to be the MOST STUNNING picture in the whole book.
I highly recommend this and will be purchasing hard copies to give to all my friends and family.
