Description

Does your autistic child struggle to connect but want to make friends? Wish you knew how to help them navigate playground drama and chat safely online? Discover realistic strategies to build social confidence, foster friendships, and celebrate your child's unique way of relating to the world!

Early intervention is highly effective in young individuals diagnosed with ASD. Navigating the social world for any child can be a roadblock, but for those diagnosed with autism, additional challenges arise.

This guide provides:

  • Tools that will empower your child to understand the unwritten rules of friendship—helping them feel less lonely in school and beyond.
  • Actionable approaches to take when your child comes home upset or crying after being teased.
  • Steps to bridge the gap between therapists and teachers to create a kinder, more inclusive classroom.
  • Mindset shifts to help you see meltdowns as communication, celebrate your child's quirky interests, and let go of "normal" expectations.
  • Ways to talk to grandparents and friends who don't "get" your child to help you explain autism and build empathy in others.
  • Insight into the power of video modeling, social stories, and safe online communities to boost your child's social skills in a fun, low-pressure way, plus guidance to protect them from online risks.

Don't give up hope. If you're ready to see your child gain social confidence and feel more empowered to support them on this journey, you've come to the right place! This is the start of something amazing for your child and your family!

I loved this. It’s super helpful if you have a child with ASD, or even if you only know someone who does. Loveson has great ideas on how to support kids and teens with autism. It’s got tips and tricks, as well as suggestions for online support for both parents and their kids. It’s refreshingly upbeat, when so many times we parents beat ourselves up when we make mistakes. I would definitely read more from Loveson.

This is a great book for parents of children and teens diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), as well as other types of neurodivergence. Neurodivergent children, such as those with ASD often have a difficult time interpreting social cues, and maintaining friendships, despite having a deep desire for friendships. This book is a great resource for parents with lots of great tips and tricks, as well avi additional sources for further reading.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC. These opinions are my own.

For anyone experiencing autism for the first time, whether it's your own child, another loved one, a child in your classroom or you want to enter the field of ABA, this book is for you. I've been in and around the field since 2012 when I graduated college and there were pieces of this book that were new to me, let alone someone who has no clue where to start. I will be sharing this book with all the parents that come through my center as a jumping off point. This book is well written, well thought out and gives much detail on how to handle different social relationships - whether good or bad. Is your child being bullied or having a hard time making friends? This helps guide you where to go with that. Do they want a romantic relationship? This book can help there too, to start. Encourage all parents or anyone (because let's face it, we all are around children and adults on the spectrum throughout our lives), to read this book and learn the difficulties neurodivergent people have to overcome to live in our society.
