Description
Chiara loved the freedom of running in the desert, but she didn't see that loose gravel. Fortunately, the plunge pool in that slot canyon saved her life, but the slot canyon also took her freedom. Jason has been Chiara's boyfriend for about one year. He is a world-class rock climber who has been free soloing for a couple years. That style of climbing requires the utmost control of body and mind. Chiara's disappearance challenges the control in his life because he can't find her. The mob in Las Vegas wants control too. They want control of water rights, because if you control water in the Southwest, you control everything. But this lost runner is ruining their plans, and she is running out of time.
Advance Praise
"I'm not big on crime novels, and I'm not up on the outdoor extreme sport scene either. My imagination wasn't leading me to ever be thinking of a juxtaposition of both in one novel, but that is what the reader gets here, and it is a decent journey. I encountered the author at a bookstore in Billings, hawking his two novels, only this his most recent one available on the Kindle. It isn't the author's fault, but like others have complained of Kindle translations, words and phrases get doubled up once in a while. That goes into my 'average' rating for the book as a whole. As for the story itself, if you are into rock climbing or pushing yourself to your physical limits, and can 'buy' a scenario where Mafia types almost straight out of Brooklyn are chasing you around the desert Southwest, you will enjoy this one. The setting is from 20 years ago, the 1990's, which I strongly suspect was only due to the need to dispense with anyone, good characters or bad, having a cellphone on their persons. Characters go shooting out into the desert, running, climbing, or driving, and the lack of instant communication keeps them on their often mishap-filled trajectories. To the author's credit, the resolution of all those trajectories wasn't always what I expected them to be. Worth the Kindle price for me, and got me off my duff to do my first review for a local (Montana) author." - Kent from Montana
