Advance Praise

“A cross between Harvey Penick’s Little Red Book and Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations (with a touch of Eugen Herrigel’s Zen in the Art of Archery), John Rota’s Let Go, Let Golf turns this crazy game into a portal to mindfulness and pure, egoless aspiration. By the end of chapter 1, I felt a sense of calm and composure. Halfway through, I could begin to feel the flow. By the time I finished, I felt like I had a mindset and a grounding in internal reality that would serve me not just on the golf course but in every aspect of life. Bravo, Mr. Rota. And the illustrations by Vic Juhasz are great!”

STEVEN PRESSFIELD, bestselling author of The Legend of Bagger Vance

“Let Go, Let Golf is so much more than an instruction manual—it’s a gateway to a new approach to golf and life. I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of wisdom John Rota shares that goes beyond just improving your handicap. The connections he makes to Stoic philosophy and the importance of being present were totally unexpected in a golf book but offer powerful tools for the mental game. John’s insights on dealing with negativity bias, getting out of your comfort zone, and harnessing the power of momentum don’t just apply on the course but in meeting any challenge. Let Go, Let Golf shows how the trials and triumphs of golf can teach us about ourselves and enrich our lives off the links too. It’s a fun and enlightening read for anyone, whether you’re a scratch golfer or just an occasional duffer (like me).”

A wonderful guide for anyone who wants to improve their golf game--or life--though mindfulness. Short chapters, concise steps and takeaways, and a light humorous touch make for an informative, fun read. I'm buying this for my golfer brother for his birthday!

Its a cliche that golf is first and foremost a mental game and this book’s focus on ‘mindfulness’ is a refreshing approach that seasoned professionals or complete amateurs like me who are returning to the game after many years will find helpful. John Rota also throws in some great quotes from philosophers that inspire and motivate. He includes many exercises and drills to improve performance in practice. The author “is an avid golfer and is always looking for ways to improve his craft.” A sentiment I fully endorse. The illustrations by Victor Juhasz are excellent. I would like to thank the author and his publisher Amplify publishing http:/amplifypublishinggroup.com/ and NetGalley for providing a digital ARC for review. My thoughts and opinions are my own.

Lots of different golf books are out there trying to help you improve your game. Let Go, Let Golf tries to go about making you look at golf (and thus at life) with a different perspective.

Simple things like using humour and unconscious meditations can make a huge impact in your game without really changing anything. The biggest focus I thought that made this book different from others was that it seemed to focus more on getting the enjoyment out of golf, not necessarily using these skills to actually improve your game. Chances are that your game will improve by doing some of what is recommend here, but having a more enjoyable time on the course really was the main goal of this book.

A good book on the mental game that the average golfer would benefit from.

Growing up I never understood why so many people liked golf. It didn't really sound that appealing to try to hit a tiny ball down a giant grassy green path to try and get it to role into a tiny cup. It wasn't until COVID hit in 2020 that I realized golf is WONDERFUL! However, the entire game is mental, and not many people talk about how to get better at the mental game of golf. This book does just that!

I love a good mindfulness book, but to have it paired with bettering my golf game? Yeah, that's an even better combination.

Good Vibes:
-Short and easy chapters to follow
-easy and understandable writing style
-motivational quotes
-things to practice
-humorous (giggled to myself a couple different times)
-in general just good vibes

Bad Vibes:
-got nothing for this section lol

If you're looking for a way to actually improve your golf game I would suggest picking up this book. Mindset is everything. Change your mindset, change your life (or in this scenario your golf game)

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. The premise of this book is an awesome idea that offers new forms of mindfulness to those who find traditional mindfulness to be newfangled nonsense, too girly or for hippies and like sports since some of the elements can be applied to other sports not just golf. I also liked the sketches which were a great touch to the book.
