City Bird is a great introduction to birding in North America! I loved the style of the writing on this one. It was all very fun and each of the birds got beautiful illustrations and just-for-fun nicknames.
My husband and I recently put up a birdfeeder, and this was a very fun way to identify some of our feathered friends. I loved the map in the back that shows you where each of these birds could be found & the section for notetaking.
Thanks to NetGalley, Angela Harrison Vinet, and Quarto Publishing for the chance to read and review!
Gorgeous little book with beautifully illustrated examples of birds found in North America. I really hope that a UK edition is published very soon!
As a lover of birds I had to download this book. Even as an Australian I found the information interesting and useful for some birding adventures. The illustrations in the book are beautiful, featuring birds from North America.
This will be a book I can refer back to and read for enjoyment over and over, it is such an adorable book which perfectly depicts the cheeky nature of birds.
Thank you NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Becker and Meyer for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
It is cute book with vintage looking pictures of different birds. I love the game wingspan so really enjoyed getting to know different birds. The activity log at the end of the book was cute and helpful for all bird watching enthusiasts.
The illustrations were great! I liked that most birds had more than one to show them in flight or to show that some of the birds might be different colors. This was a very fun book to read and would be perfect for anyone getting into bird watching. I will have to buy a copy for my friends who live in cities.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an Advanced Reader’s Copy in exchange for an honest review.
With thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publishers for allowing me to review City Birds
Although City Bird is supposed to be for the north American readers, It didn't stop me from enjoying the book.
The illustrious are beautiful with the Calliope humming bird being my favourite. I also loved the information that goes with each bird.
Perfect guide to those who want to start birdwatching or just wish to know more about american birds. I found it really interesting, a book to read in one sitting or to use anytime necessary. Super useful are the pages at the bottom where you can take notes of the birds you see in your surroundings.
This cozy book contains beautiful illustrations of North American city birds along with witty, accessible descriptions of each bird, its habitat, and behaviors. The illustrations are delightful and whimsical, even the two-page layout spreads. I think my favorite bird illustration was the magpie, but there's plenty to choose from.
As others have mentioned, the info provided for each bird is brief, but as someone who knows very little about birds, it provides enough background to still be educational. Still, this would likely be best for children, as a coffee table book, or for adults like me who aren't savvy about birds.
As far as improvements could go, I do wish the birds had been separated into areas rather than alphabetical, so I could try to identify birds more easily in my region or those I've travelled to. There's a map in the back that does show this, but for me I would have preferred sections. I would have also appreciated more of an explicit checklist section for all of the birds (instead of the small amount of write-in blocks), but I understand that it wasn't the intention of this book to be such a checklist.
On a final note, the afterword about the mother/daughter pair working on this while struggling with bone cancer was both heartwarming and sad, I hope things worked out </3
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the chance to read this ARC.
Very well done! The consistent method of introducing all the different types of birds along with such beautiful pictures of every one was delightful! The addition of the pages to document your personal sightings was an excellent touch!
Absolutely beautiful illustrations and interesting descriptions of North American birds (not as useful for birders outside of America but still stunning to look at!)
Handy checklist and map of areas where you can find birds listed in the book and the tips for how to get started will be helpful for anyone who wants to get into birdwatching and lives in a built-up area.
Thank you Epic Ink and NetGalley for a copy of City Bird!

My goodness, what an adorable (and informative) book on bird watching! I love the illustrations which also doubles as an accessible feature. The activity log at the end is a nice touch and helpful for beginner bird watchers. I thought this was the perfect gift for friends who are also avid bird watchers or just bird lovers in general!
A lovely resource for North American birders in urban areas, with gorgeous illustrations and descriptions of birds that can be seen in metropolitan locales. I'm buying a copy for myself, and more for the bird lovers in my family!
I'm no birder (and I really don't see that changing anytime soon), so this whole world is pretty new to me, but I LOVE this little book (and will probably be nabbing a physical copy when it comes out). It's gorgeous, illustrated with photos and art of various birds, and concise and interesting information on all the birds presented here. Big fan. I loved learning more about the birds that live in the world we've built.
This is definitely one of those books that belongs in your ornithology collection! Vivid artwork that details the little colors on birds and information about each bird represented.
At the end of the book, there are quite a few spots to write in the birds you find, in journal style.
I love this little book of birds, I'll be grabbing my own personal copy!

Thank you, Netgalley, for allowing me to read and review this book. These opinions are completely my own.
Great introduction to Bird. For some reason, after I turned 38, looking at birds became part of my routine. The robins in my yard bring me joy, and I watch the sparrows cool themselves in the soil. This is the perfect book to introduce one to other non-common species in central Canada
this is a gorgeous illustrated guide to birds found in the us
pros: absolutely stunning and I love the writing style and how it was all layered out! the lil facts were super interesting too and I learnt a lot
cons: sadly i’m not from the us & thus we have far less cool birds here
I have recently gotten more into bird watching and this book is a perfect little companion! The illustrations are absolutely beautiful, detailed, and accurate. The bird facts are informative and interesting without being overly scientific or lengthy. I definitely learned things I didn't know before, even about common birds like mallards! I will for sure need the hardcover once it's released and I already ordered the first book in the series, Country Birds.
The little author's note at the end about Angela and Janis being a mother/daughter duo was so bittersweet. I wish them all the best <3
I love birds! I don't know much about them, however. This is such a good place to start learning about books and I will for sure be taking it out when I go to the park next! The art was lovely and I definitely bookmarked some of my favorite birds. I learned a lot from this book. Its short, gives you a brief overview of the bird, and gives tips for observing birds.
Get an informed yet cheeky perspective on the fascinating language of birds in urban areas with this witty twist on a traditional field guide.
Thank you Netgalley & Epic Ink for sending me this digital ARC! I live in the suburbs and I’m a birdwatcher.
I have 2 bird feeders and a bird bath. I enjoyed reading this book and learning about city birds. I liked the way this book was written.
