Death or madness? That is the choice you have when it is the dawn of the apocalypse. This isn't some fire and flood apocalypse, no, the world will end at the hand of people who are exploited through biot-madness or are on the receiving end of a swarm of nanobots.
BZRK Apocalypse is the thrilling and insane conclusion to the BZRK trilogy where two people seeking acceptance through mass brainwashing and one person who wants to stop them use nanotechnology to wage war against each other. It is not that simple though and throughout the trilogy we find that the facts have been altered, muddled, and withheld to the point that Bug Man, Burnofsky, Sadie, Noah, Vincent, Wilkes, Jin, and Ophelia are putting their all into a fight that they might not want after all.
The first thing I have to say is wow, this was an intense ending to this series! After reading through the first two books before this one and it all being fresh in my mind I must say that this series is unlike anything I have read this year. This futuristic war story is just so enrapturing and completely sucks you into the world. I love the way Grant uses the different perspectives of the characters to share the whole story from all angles and motivations, I think if the trilogy had a single or even only two narrators it would be left severely lacking in depth. I must say my favorite part was finding out who Lear is and getting to see things from his/her perspective as well as everyone else's especially because you find out who Lear is before the BZRK members do! The book wraps up the series nicely with some interesting plot twists, character reveals, third party perspectives, and amazing character development.
I love Grant's writing because it is so descriptive and entrancing without being too much. I also found myself laughing out loud at some of the most awkward of times because of the way he phrases things. This book and it's predecessors are gory and suspenseful but it is about war, it may not be all guns and missiles but it is still a war and they are nothing but gory and full of conflicting motivations, following orders, and the inevitability of death. I think it is important for the readers of these books to get that.
I would recommend this trilogy to anyone who loves a good technology based sci-fi, war story with a dash of romance, a large helping of gore and action scenes, and some very interesting characters that are practically berserk, or will be.
