Description
Cordelia Tanner has a fabulous life of fun, frolics, and footwear which takes an unexpected detour when she discovers a unique skill. This leads her to amateur sleuthing and solving impossible to crack cases for an international policing agency using an unconventional weapon – her extraordinary psychic ability.
When she is not bringing unsavoury characters to justice, she has larks galore with her adorable twin brother Rex and their best friend, the dazzling Elodie l’Archambeau. After they decide to have a giggle by fooling the world into believing their nursery school level daubs are by a secretive new art collective they make powerful enemies. How are they going to wriggle out of this worrisome situation?
This is a funny feel good book with a strong female lead set in contemporary London and Europe in a story about a glamorous family, friendship, jollity and a sprinkling of magic leading to a happy ending.

This was really fun! Sometimes mystery books can feel a bit stale like you've read the same sort of thing before but this felt really original, I loved the addition of her psychic powers. It has sort of White Collar vibes, the MC solves crimes for the police but she's psychic. It's definitely a feel good read and had me laughing multiple times, I especially loved the characters
BA Summer’s *Sole Brethren: Left To Their Own Devices* is a delightful and whimsical romp through contemporary London and Europe, brimming with charm, humor, and just the right touch of magic. As the second installment in the *Sole Brethren* series, this novel continues the adventures of Cordelia Tanner, a protagonist whose life is as fabulous as her footwear.
Cordelia is far from your typical sleuth. Her life of luxury takes an unexpected turn when she discovers an extraordinary psychic ability that allows her to solve cases no one else can crack. This unique skill leads her to work with an international policing agency, where she uses her unconventional weapon—her psychic gift—to bring justice to unsavory characters. The premise alone is enough to intrigue, but it’s Cordelia’s witty and effervescent personality that truly captivates. She’s a strong female lead who is both glamorous and relatable, making her a joy to follow as she navigates her dual life of crime-solving and high society frolics.
The novel doesn’t shy away from embracing the absurd and the humorous. Cordelia’s escapades with her twin brother Rex and their dazzling friend Elodie l’Archambeau add a layer of fun and mischief to the story. Their latest caper—convincing the world that their amateurish art is the work of a mysterious new collective—leads them into a tangled web of deceit and danger. The trio’s chemistry is infectious, and their antics are sure to bring a smile to readers’ faces. The art forgery plotline is particularly entertaining, blending the world of high art with the thrill of a heist gone awry.
Summer’s writing is light and breezy, perfectly suited to the book’s tone. The author has a knack for creating vivid settings, and her descriptions of London and various European locales are both glamorous and atmospheric. Whether Cordelia is attending a glittering soirée or sneaking through shadowy streets, the sense of place is always strong, grounding the more fantastical elements of the story in a richly detailed world.
While the book is undeniably a fun and feel-good read, it also touches on themes of friendship and family, adding depth to the narrative. Cordelia, Rex, and Elodie’s bond is at the heart of the story, and their loyalty to one another is both heartwarming and inspiring. Their collective journey—filled with laughter, magic, and the occasional brush with danger—celebrates the joy of companionship and the strength found in unity.
*Left To Their Own Devices* is a perfect pick for fans of lighthearted fiction with a twist. It’s a novel that doesn’t take itself too seriously, yet delivers a satisfying and imaginative story filled with loveable characters and plenty of laughs. Whether you’re already a fan of the *Sole Brethren* series or new to Cordelia Tanner’s world, this book offers a thoroughly enjoyable escape into a world where the fabulous meets the fantastical.
In conclusion, *Sole Brethren: Left To Their Own Devices* is a must-read for anyone looking for a clever, comedic adventure with a sprinkle of the supernatural. BA Summer has crafted a series that is as charming as it is unique, and this latest installment is sure to leave readers eagerly awaiting the next.
One of the things that I surpresly enjoy was the fact that the book had multiple perspectives and characters which in this case really made sense.. Also the psychic powers made the book fun and intriguing also the fact that she uses to crime solving
Investigating a crime becomes all the more interesting when a psychic twist is added. The author somehow makes this scenario very credible without taking the plot line too seriously. I love the writing style, which is descriptive, witty, creative and engaging,
