Description

USA TODAY and ECPA bestselling series

Combine James Patterson and Colleen Hoover and you'll start to understand why readers are riveted by the Murphy Shepherd series from New York Times bestselling author Charles Martin: gripping action, heart-wrenching emotion, and deep questions that deserve to be considered.

Bones--Murphy Shepherd's teacher, mentor, priest, and friend--is gone. Devastated by the loss and unsure how to continue the rescue work they started, Murph has no choice but to jump back in when the worst happens. His longtime friend and current United States vice president, Aaron Ashley, has been a silent partner in the fight against trafficking. But in spite of having the best security available, his three daughters have been taken bound and blindfolded from their home by an extraction team that left no clues and no trace--just an empty house, a bereft mother, and nine dead Secret Service agents. Only Murph and his team have a hope of finding them.

Bones may have made the ultimate sacrifice by taking down his own brother and the dark network he led, but there are still others in this network where evil is the currency and power is the prize. Soon Ashley drops out of the presidential race and a new candidate emerges--someone who is ready, too ready, to step into the race and the Oval Office.

Bones taught Murph that the needs of the one, the lost one, outweigh those of the ninety-nine. In his first rescue without Bones beside him, Murph's fight against human trafficking takes him across the globe and through the halls of government to destroy the network and save the lives and souls of those taken.

The Murphy Shepherd series is simultaneously a tender love story, a heartrending search for freedom, an exploration of the terrible cost of human trafficking, and an anthem to the power of love to create change when it shows up regardless of the cost. The Keeper raises the stakes even further, so be ready--you won't want to put it down until you reach the very last page.

The series continues in an amazing blend of action, introspection, romance, and the eternal battle between Good and Evil. Murph has lost his mentor and possible his direction. As the team continues to rescue the innocent, including the daughters of the sitting VPOTUS.,they seem to be without a leader. How can Murph continue? This is a moving story, in which the plots are moved by the depth of the characters who hurt, cry, laugh, and celebrate like real people.

What a story - you will be mesmerized by the chronicle of events! A computer text is sent out about three girls, a mom, the Secret Service and bodies and photographs to be taken.

The Vice Presidents' family is kidnapped, the Secret service guarding them is savagely killed along with their guard dogs.

You will be intrigued by who is sent to find them, for he has been trained for many years by a man who was trafficked himself you will weep at the inside look into human trafficking.

These books are so deep and so insightful! Murphy and the community at Freetown are left to deal with the world without Bones in the midst of trafficking of the vice presidents daughters. Murphy and his team fight to find the one sheep while flashing back to their own memories of Bones and trying to heal. This book has a wealth of insight.

Thanks to netgalley and Thomas Nelson for the arc. The opinions are my own.

This is an amazing story from one of today’s most incredible Christian authors. Human trafficking has become an increasingly criminal pandemic today. Charles Martin dives in with The Keeper showing that no one and no family is immune from being touched by this horrendous tragedy. The Keeper is incredible work from Charles Martin.

I received an advanced reader’s copy from Thomas Nelson and Netgalley. Opinions are my own.

If you thought the Murphy Shepherd/David Bishop story reached its conclusion with The Record Keeper, you're not alone. According to a video posted to Charles Martin's social media, he thought so too. But as he worked toward making the three existing books into movies that are expected to be made in the next few years, he said he realized that there was more to the story and he began the 4th installment.

The Keeper is every bit as good as the previous three books, and maybe even better. I could not put it down and finished it in a few days when the average book has been taking me over a week because of some intense real-life situations that are taking up a lot of my time right now. N0t only did I enjoy the unfolding of several important plot points, but I enjoyed seeing several characters grow and evolve through the events in the story.

Of course, the subject is human trafficking and sexual abuse of girls and women, so you have to be able to handle that. This series as a whole manages to convey the immense evil and tragedy of human trafficking without being graphic about it. That in itself takes a great deal of talent.

I can only hope that Martin doesn't stop with four and continues on with the saga of Murphy Shepherd and his tribe. I for one would eagerly read a fifth installment or as many as he wants to write.

I really enjoyed this as a romance and it worked with what I was looking for from the description. I was invested in what was happening to the characters and glad it was so well written. Charles Martin wrote this well and left me wanting to read more.

This is my first time reading anything by Charles Martin. Other than some references to earlier storylines, I wasn't lost in the story. It was written in such a way that it can stand on its own, although it is the latest in the series. Fans will obviously love the story. It is broad enough to fit into several categories. It has some romance, some intrigue, some action, and some moral direction. The subject matter is not bright and cheery, but the presentation of hope within a dark story is amazing. I would highly recommend this book to everyone!

This is book 4 of the Murphy Shepherd series. I have read the others; however, each story is basically a standalone, with enough background that the reader will pick it right up. These are captivating, engaging stories nearly impossible to put down.
This story is about rescuing, mainly female, children of all ages, from the ravages of child trafficking. Absolutely outrageous to know such a thing exists, however, because it does, thankful for those who put their life on the line, as the fictitious character of Murphy Shepherd and others do.
The story begins with Murph at Arlington National Cemetery, where his mentor and best friend, Bones, is laid to rest. Although he is dealing with an agonizing sadness, at the loss, he vows to continue with the mission of saving children. Unknown to him the plot to take three daughters of a high-profile friend will play out soon.
The character development is exemplary, and the characters are memorable. The reality of child trafficking is not discounted in any way. Sacrificial love as well as the healing power of love is a theme throughout this heartfelt story.
I believe this book will appeal to the mainstream market as well as evangelicals. Personally, I loved the occasional reference to scripture.
I received a complimentary copy of his book. All comments and opinions are my own.

The Keeper is book 4 in the Murphy Shephard series. Charles Martin is an amazing voice in today's Christian fiction genre. This may be the best book of the 4! The story starts with David/Murphy struggling after the death of Bones. More of their story and history is revealed and the story gets better as every page is turned! The twists in the story were completely unexpected. This is simply an excellent story that picks right up where #3 ended. Some have said this could be a standalone, but I think that all should be read in order to understand the full depth of what Murphy/David does and is and how all of his story fits together. I received a complimentary copy of this book, but all opinions are my own.

This book. Charles Martin is my favorite author, and I love the Murphy Shepherd books, so I was desperate to read this. And it did not disappoint me. The ending of The Record Keeper destroyed me in all the best possible ways—how was this going to live up to that? It did.

There was a lot of action, of course, as befits this series, but we got to spend a lot of time in Murphy’s head, too, watching as he struggled with what he’d been taught—the value of the one—and what he felt. His anguish and confusion and doubt spilled onto the page and the reader wrestled with them just as he did. Layer that with the action of the race to find the three girls and to figure out just who was behind the darkness that took them and this book was absolutely riveting, Charles Martin at his best.

Charles Martin is a bestselling author. The Keeper is his newest novel.

So Charles Martin has come up with another book in the Murphy Shepherd series, after we all thought The Record Keeper was the final one. If you haven’t read The Water Keeper, The Letter Keeper, and the Record Keeper recently, you do not need to go back and re-read them. In this new book, Martin gives a lot of background to remind you what has happened in those 3 books. If you have NOT read them, you definitely want to read the series in order, because there’s a lot he doesn’t include in the flashbacks.

Once again, it is hard to read about the depths of evil involved in human trafficking and the awful, dark world of those who buy and sell the bodies of young boys and girls just to indulge in their perverse pleasures. After Bones’ death in The Record Keeper, his brother’s seven “generals” are ready to take over and continue expanding their power and reach. As Murphy grieves the loss of his mentor and friend, he keeps fighting, and the light shines through the darkness again and again, but at the cost of a love that gives sacrificially and completely.

The plot twists kept me gasping, and I had to take breaks now and then from the tension of the plot. New characters get introduced, more hope takes root, and I couldn’t believe how the book ends. I know you will love it like I did!

Murphy Shepherd’s story continues with one of the most revealing and compelling installments yet! I love Charles Martin’s writing style and his latest book does not disappoint. So many loose ends tied up and explained, so many markers towards Jesus and what he has done for each of us. Great read, and hoping this means more to come for Murph and all the characters of Freetown.

I love Charles Martin! He is one of the best storytellers I've ever read! I love this series! I feel it's so important to bring light to this topic even though it makes me terrified for my 9 year old granddaughter! This book picks up where the last book ended with the death of Bones. But the Vice Presidents daughters are missing and Murphy Shepherd must find them while also navigating the grief of losing his mentor and best friend.

Murphy Shepherd is back! I was so excited to see Charles Martin wrote another book in this series. It’s one of the best series I have ever read and this was another great addition! In The Keeper Murphy has to work through tremendous grief while also finding a way to do his job and save the lost. As always Martin’s writing gets straight to the heart.

The Keeper is a moving story of love and redemption. Through the eyes of a soldier willing to pay any price by putting his life on the line to save young girls being sold into trafficking, you catch a glimpse of the emotional cost.
Plenty of action and suspense as the team follows leads to rescue the girls. No spoilers….but emotions run high and laid bare when adjustments must be made within the team. A must read!

This was my first time reading Charles Martin’s work, and I understand now why this author is so popular. Although this is the latest book in a series, I wasn’t lost in the plot, and I didn’t feel like I was missing important information, so I believe this is fine if read as a stand-alone book. The characters are all intriguing, and the storyline kept me hooked from beginning to end. I would highly recommend it, and I look forward to reading more of Martin’s work.

This book will stay with you. It will stay on your forever shelf and on your heart. A great book in the series or even as a stand alone. Murph and Bones share so much words of wisdom and inspiration overcoming the darkness within the world we live in. Tough subject that needs light to be shined on. Highly recommend this series. The Keeper is an introspective look at friendship, loss and overcoming the many facets of grief. In the fourth book of the Murphy Shepherd series, Murph must work without his beloved Bones to track down child traffickers who are very skilled at their jobs.

Charles Martin can weave one heck of a story. His writing is uniquely thoughtful and compelling. It’s near impossible to set the book down once you’ve started it. I highly recommend this 5-star book, which can also be read as a stand-alone.

Thank you, thank you NetGalley for an advance copy of The Keeper! I am a huge Charles Martin fan and couldn't wait to continue reading about Murphy Shepherd. I love Mr. Martin's style of writing and how he can take such a dark subject and make it eye opening and informative.I believe this book will appeal to the mainstream market as well as evangelicals. Personally, I loved the occasional reference to scripture but not overly preachy. I have already told many they have to continue reading this series. I sure do hope this is not the end of Murphy and we will hear from him again. Thank you Charles Martin for being the gifted writer you are!

Charles Martin always delivers an excellent novel and this one was no exception. The Keeper is the 4th book in the Murphy Shepherd series, and is based on human trafficking. The story has many twists and turns and will keep you guessing till the very end. Martin shows the web of deception and evil that is in our world today. The story is also about redemption, healing, sacrificing, love, and good against evil.

The keeper starts with Murphy mourning his best friend and mentor, Bones. He is trying to deal with such an enormous loss and carry on to rescue boys and girls who have been trafficked by evil people. Murphy is in a race against time to rescue the Vice Presidents 3 daughters. Will he be able to without Bones by his side guiding him. I liked the way the author talked about spiritual things in a natural way dealing with grief, healing, love, etc.

I highly recommend this book and all of Charles Martin’s books. He is an exceptional author. Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction for an advanced copy of this book.

The Keeper
Charles Martin
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

In this fourth book in the Murphy Shepherd series, Murphy is still reeling from the loss of his mentor, Bones. Knowing that Bones sacrificed himself to take down an evil empire created by his brother, Frank, doesn't make it any easier. Although Frank is gone, his underlings are not, and someone has kidnapped the three daughters of presidential candidate Aaron Ashley.

Murphy is called on to find the missing girls, but he's never completed a rescue mission without Bones. In spite of his grief, he assembles a team and determines to not only find the girls, but to take down whoever ordered their abduction.

The overwhelming theme of this book was love, but not in the romantic sense. Instead, it is the deepest love imaginable that overcomes darkness. Love that willingly sacrifices at great cost. Love that binds hearts together beyond friendship or family. Intentional love that invests in the lives of others. Love that invariably leads to deep pain.

Martin is a master storyteller writing on the outskirts of human depravity that crushes the soul. Somehow he makes his story about light and about love. He challenges our conceptions of true love and whether we are willing to risk all to gain something priceless. Martin illustrates the real truth of a shepherd leaving the ninety-nine in search of the one who is lost. It’s more about the shepherd being willing to leave the security and comfort of the flock to let the one sheep know he is valued. The shepherd must be willing to sacrifice himself.

The Keeper is a beautiful story that will make you long for a friendship like that between Bishop and Bones. More importantly, it is a story that produces great thankfulness for our Shepherd, Jesus Christ, who sacrificed Himself as the Lamb of God.

We received an advance copy from NetGalley. This is our honest review.

"The needs of the one outweighs those of the ninety-nine." Another stellar installment of the Murphy Shepherd series by Charles Martin. I was super excited to hear that a fourth book was coming after reading the trilogy of the Keeper series books. This book will keep you guessing and has many plot twists and lots of action. Similar to the others, the focus on the atrocities of trafficking are detailed in a way easily understood, although it is sickening to digest the horrors that befall so many who are subject to such terrible actions. Martin shows with great insight the web of deception and evil that is so prevalent in our world today, and he also does a wonderful job of sharing what is means to have redemption, healing, growth, and an understanding of unconditional love. "Identity precedes purpose. You can't know who you are until you know whose you are. Belongingness matters."

I highly recommend this book to not only give you insight into the dark side of evil, but also how those enmeshed in darkness cannot truly know they are in darkness, as Martin describes, unless someone turns on a light, or becomes the light for them! Exceptional depth pointing the readers to the true Savior. Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for the early review copy. All opinions are my own.

The ability Charles Martin has to give you an action packed story with wit and charm from the narrator, while also weaving in deep emotional and inspirational paragraphs always amazes me. The Keeper is the fourth installment in this series. While it did start out a bit slow for me with lots of backstory from the previous books it was needed for the story. The first half of the book was 3 stars and the back half was about 8! Do yourself a favor and start at book one of this series and enjoy the ride! I hope Martin keeps the The Keeper coming!

In the fourth installment of the Murphy Shepherd series, Murphy must confront the evil that has brought down his best friend and mentor Bones. He must face the loss that has almost crippled him as he fights to find the kidnapped daughters of his friend Ashley, the Vice President of the United States. Evil abounds through the world of trafficked boys and girls and Murphy must rescue Ashley’s daughters without Bones by his side.

I could not put this one down. The characters are so real that you become part of the story fighting the battle of evil right along beside them. I cried, I laughed and I cheered Murphy on through his quest to once again fight the evil that exists at the hands of sick twisted and most often powerful people.

Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction for my ARC.

The plot reminded me a little of the film White House Down, in which the underground forces attempt to assassinate the President and his men. The President is unsure who to trust. Then the A team arrives to protect him, and they are unable to determine who all the bad guys are; their tentacles go deep, just like in this novel. The vice president would have preferred taking a bullet for his daughters, then have them abducted by evil forces.

This was a fast-paced action-adventure story I couldn't put down. The subject matter is serious, and important. The author does a great job of explaining how sex trafficking works, and why it exists. it’s something I've never understood. Charles Martin shows how it takes a collaborative effort to keep up and stop traffickers, which explains why they’re hard to catch, and how they get away with so much.

I also liked the way the author talked about spiritual challenges in a natural way, with themes of grief, healing, love, and recovery, just to name a few. This novel is heart-breaking, yet a hopeful must-read.

This book can be read as a stand-alone, but I highly recommend reading book one in the series first. You’ll have a richer experience. This novel makes for a wonderful book club pick. There is so much to talk about.

This is book 4 of the Murphy Shepherd series. I didn’t realise this until I was about 12% into the book. I felt a bit lost at first but fairly quickly caught up. Still, I wish I had read the first three, which I plan to do.
This story is about rescuing, mostly female, children from the atrocities of human trafficking. Murphy Shepherd puts his life on the line to rescue these children.
The Keeper begins with Murph at Arlington National Cemetery, where his mentor and best friend, Bones, is being laid to rest. Although he is dealing with his own agonizing grief, in Bones honor, he vows to continue with the mission of saving innocent children. Already in the works is a plot to take the three daughters of a high-profile family.

Lots of plot twists and tense scenes will keep you turning pages with themes of sacrificial love and the healing power of love in this heartfelt story.

Charles Martin just has a way with creating a story with emotion, action and an uplifting message that never disappoints. This book is the fourth in the series and dealt with loss and grief as well as the evils of human trafficking.

Murphy has lost his mentor and tries to build a team to help him take down the evil that has taken the daughters of the Vice President. I absolutely love Murphy Shepherd and I really enjoyed how deep Martin went into the life of faith a person lives. The addition of Camp to the series adds even more interest and another amazing character in the series. As each event happens you learn more and more about unconditional love and how Murphy grapples with some hard truths.

I highly recommend this book as a great page turner with twists and turns as well as some deep insights into dark topics.

I had the opportunity to meet Charles Martin last year and hear him speak. Needless to say I was doing summersaults and backflips when he told the crowd there would be a 4th Murphy Shephard book. If you are just discovering this book, please go back amd read the first three. There are several references that won't make sense without all of the backstory.

"Because the needs of the one outweigh those of the ninety-nine."

This has been the dominant theme over this series as Martin tackles the harsh, ugly and evil world of human trafficking. We all need a Murphy Shephard and Bones out there who will break down that door and go rescue the one suffering. As in the other books in this series, Martin shines a light on a subject that desperately needs attention with the most delicate hand and showing a way to hope, recover, live and still love.

"You can't know who you are until you know whose you are."

This is another theme that resonates throughout all of the books in this series. Knowing we are all God's children. Without hitting you over the head with a Bible, Martin continues to write Christian lessons that make me dig deeper in my soul, make me think and at the end of the day bring me closer to God. Martin is a magical author in this aspect.

"We all lose our way. Sometimes it just takes somebody else to find us and bring us back. Remind us."

Murphy normally is the one searching for the Lost, but in this book he is lost and broken after losing Bones. While he is still going after those who were taken, he is also finding his way back, getting beautifully reminded of who he is. At some point in everyone's life, they go astray or feel lost. This is a reminder that we can all find our way back home.

There are some new characters introduced and a few unexpected twists that only add to the depth of the story. My only criticism is there is alot of repetition at times. However, for me, this did not detract from my overall view of the story. And it seems as if Martin has left the door open to future books in this series.

If you have not discovered Charles Martin or read any of his books, please do so. I promise you will not be disappointed.

My thanks to Charles Martin, Thomas Nelson Publishing and Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I was so thrilled to know that a 4th book was added to The Keeper series, and this one was just as much of a beautifully insightful, twisting journey as all of the others!! Murph is trying to get his feet under him after the loss of Bones, and struggling to do so. When he’s called upon to rescue the kidnapped daughters of the vice president, he throws himself into his natural role of rescuer, despite his grief. Deeper layers of evil are brought to light as Murph and his team do what they do best. The surprises in this one are delightful, and true to form, Charles Martin weaves Christ’s love for His Bride all throughout the story. I’m hoping for a 5th book (at least), as the ending seems to leave an opening for more to come!

I've been a Charles Martin fan for years, and he is very popular with our patrons. His writing is lyrical and he draws you right into the story. This one was excellent, and I am grateful for the advance copy. Looking forward to telling our patrons about it!
This can be read on its own, but I do think reading the first three books in the series would enhance the reading of this one.
*This book deals with human trafficking, as do the others in the series.*

The Keeper by Charles Martin
This book, number 4 in the Keeper series, was full of surprises. It does contain the same cast of characters as the previous book, with the addition of a few new ones. It rehearses much of the last book to refresh the reader’s memory about the end of Bones’ life. I found that helpful because it had been awhile since I had read the third book. But the surprises take your breath away! And the author keeps the door open for more stories in the series.
Readers who enjoy some action-packed adventure with a true hero—one worthy of admiration—will be glued to this book. I am grateful to the publisher for the arc in return for this, my honest review.

Charles Martin is such a powerful storyteller! The Keeper picks up where the Murphy Shephard trilogy ended. This beautiful story of grace and redemption deals with the difficult subject of human trafficking with a mix of disgust (for the perpetrators) and compassion (for the victims). There are several flashbacks so you can easily follow this novel of forgiveness and mercy.

Thank you Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for the early copy. All opinions are my own.

The Keeper is the fourth novel in the Murphy Shepherd series and hopefully not the last!
This has been an incredible action packed, suspenseful and emotional experience.
All of the stories addressed the serious issue of human trafficking of children and young women and what extreme measures others are prepared to take to save these innocent lives.
There is love, sadness, hope and friendship throughout the narratives. Charles Martin’s writing is rich in detail, which helps to create an immersive experience. He incorporates local history adding depth to the stories he tells. Jonathan K. Riggs is the most entertaining narrator I’ve encountered so far in my new adventure with audiobooks.
Thank you to the author/publisher for the opportunity to read this advanced copy. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

This book was heartbreaking, action-packed, and full of surprises—but also filled with so much hope. From the very first page, I was just so happy to be back with Murphy and the crew. The story and action here was engaging while also feeling new. I was caught between wanting to fly through this and also desperately wanting to slow down so it wouldn't end.

I never expected another book after the last one, so this was the best surprise. The new characters added so much to the story and I'm interested to see if we get to hear from them in the future. The way it ended makes me hopeful that there’s still more to come, and I’ll be first in line to read anything that comes after this!

I cannot give this book, The Keeper, enough praise. My attention was kept drawn to this thriller thoughout its many pages. Oh, except for some of the guns and weaponry descriptions and usage that sort of went over my head. Those readers who are in the know about such things will likely enjoy these offerings. However, I did learn something especially for when a target is a long distance away.

What really impacted me as I read through the story was the allegory of love; that is, God's unconditional love. I very much appreciated that. The author, Charles Martin, helped me grasp some of the depth, sacrifice and risks that this type of love will make and take.

Yes, there is some sweet romance woven into the story, as well as tears and laughter, mystery and action.

Another aspect I liked about this story is that Martin addresses human trafficking and it's despicableness; it's darkness and organized evil, the abject horror of it and the devastating effects upon its victims. Thankfully there was the saving grace of rescuers that kindled hope and help towards both the victims' recovered and their subsequent recovery and healing process.

This is the fourth book in the Murphy Shepherd series. We meet Bones, Murph, Summer, Ellie, Casey, Camp and Eddie among others of the 'good guys'. We also meet some of the bad guys so stay alert.

The icing on the cake, which we can also 'eat', is that this is a faith-based narrative. So all-in-all, I give this book and author a 5 - Star rating and a thumbs up salute.

Though the topic of sex trafficking is hard to read about, I think it’s been helpful for me as I see what a pervasive problem it is. I hope there are people like Murphy Shepherd and Bones out there kicking down doors to free the captives.

This book had a slower pace and less action than the others I feel as it focused a lot on Murph trying to figure out how to go on without Bones. His grief was intense. It’s hard to change roles when the mentee becomes the leader. It was interesting seeing him start to train others as Bones had trained him.

This story was also a beautiful testament to marriage. Summer’s support was incredible. A man like Murph needs a woman like Summer in his corner.

Excellent book. Charles Martin is a special writer. Thank you to Thomas Nelson for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

So, I didn't realize this was a series.... Oops! I did jump into this (book 4) without knowing that this was a series, but honestly, I don't think I really needed to. Charles Martin did a great job reminding the readers of the characters enough for me to not be totally lost while reading (though I was a little lost in the beginning). I will probably go back and read the rest of the series, though, because I love the characters and I want more backstory!

I really enjoyed this book, but I had a few minor qualms with it. I think there were improvements that could have been made with the writing. It was repetitive, especially towards the end, and the chapters ended at weird spots sometimes (in my opinion). It also felt like it was trying too hard to be profound (there was so much fluff about love and evil that kept showing up). The plot also could have been paced better in my opinion.

However, the characters are so awesome, and I loved each and every one of them! This book is so cute and heart-wrenching and beautiful, and it was really clean as well! It was really good.

Another absolutely beautiful installment in this series. Charles Martin has long been a favorite author of mine but this series has been some of his best writing.

Murph is on the hunt for the Vice President’s daughter who were stolen by some “bad men with bad intentions.” Unfortunately this time he is without Bones. The journey made me laugh and cry. I won’t give it away but there is one spot where I was actually sobbing.

Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for allowing me to read and review this title. All opinions are my own.

Suspensefilled!!! Murphy's story never ceases to amaze. Murphy is dealing with so much grief from loosing Bones. One can see that grief is a powerful emotion and can derail one's purpose if not properly handled. Even in the throes of grief, Murphy and all the other characters fight the strong hand of evil determined not to allow evil triumph over good. The fight to rescue the Vice President's daughters, the deep love of a father is beautiful to see. Ready to give up everything, Ashley shows strength of character and resolution to conquer evil.
Murphy's fight against evil as he navigate through his grief brings about a delightful unexpected gift, one which brings peace and joy to all of his loved ones. This book is a must read for anyone who has followed Murphy and Bones journey from the beginning. As the men fight against the wickedness, hope and faith keeps being renewed. Good is always triumphant over evil irrespective of how deep the tentacles of evil is embedded. Beautiful story.

The writing in this book is truly something special. From the first few lines, I found myself completely drawn into the world the author created. There’s an authenticity to the way the characters’ emotions are portrayed—everything felt genuine, from their struggles to their quiet moments of reflection. The author has this incredible ability to capture the complexity of relationships and personal growth in such a natural, unforced way.

I especially appreciated how the emotions weren’t rushed or overly dramatized. The story unfolded in a way that felt real—no shortcuts, no gimmicks—just honest moments between characters that left a deep impact. Even the smaller, more intimate exchanges carried weight, and that’s something I don’t come across often in stories like this.

The narrator’s voice truly brought the characters and the emotions to life, adding depth and resonance to the writing. The way they brought out the subtleties of the dialogue made each moment feel even more poignant. It wasn’t just a performance—it was an experience.

As this is the last book in the series, it was clear that the author put everything into giving the characters and their journey the proper resolution. It felt like a fitting end, with everything wrapping up in a way that felt earned and fulfilling.

The Keeper, number 4 in the Keeper series, was full of surprises. It continues the story as it left off in book 3, with the addition of a few new characters. Often it reminded me of the "previously on..." for some tv shows, using flash backs to refresh the reader’s memory about the end of Bones’ life. I found that helpful because it had been awhile since I had read the third book, but also it is annoying when an author just jumps in without giving any back story so the reader is a little bit lost. There are a few surprises in the final third of the book and since it ended on another cliff hanger, I hope there is another book in the series coming next year.
Readers who enjoy some action-packed adventure with a true hero—one worthy of admiration—will enjoy this book, but be aware it covers some tough topics like human trafficking.
I am grateful to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for the arc in return for this, my honest review.

I was given an ARC of this book by the author and NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

This is the first book of Charles Martin I've ever read. And holy cow. From the absolute first paragraph, I was completely hooked. The series of turns in this book that I didn't see coming continued to surprise me. While this book contains a very hard-to-read subject, knowing there are actual people like Bones and Murph finding those ones who needs rescuing is amazing. At times, I was in tears. Then I would laugh. Then be on my toes waiting for the next chapter. I was shocked at how this book came together and it only made me want to read the earlier books, while impatiently waiting for the next book to come out! I highly recommend you taking time to read this book and many more by this author!!!

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Martin is one of my favorite authors and this series is so good!
I highly recommend reading it!

Charles Martin continues his breathtaking storytelling in The Keeper, the next chapter in the Murphy Shepherd series. From the very first page, the novel is packed with heart-wrenching emotion, high-stakes action, and the kind of deep, unshakable love that makes this series unforgettable.

Murphy Shepherd—also known as David Bishop—has spent his life rescuing the lost, the broken, and the innocent. He carries the weight of a painful past, yet his purpose is clear: to save those who cannot save themselves. Through all the darkness he has faced, one light remains constant—Summer.

One of the most beautiful aspects of this novel is the relationship between Murphy and Summer. Their love is not just romantic; it is a testament to healing, trust, and unwavering devotion. Summer’s strength and steadfast faith in Murphy make their relationship one of my absolute favorites in any book. She is his anchor, his reason to keep fighting, and the perfect balance to his wounded, warrior heart. The way Martin writes their love is breathtaking—it’s raw, real, and filled with the kind of depth that makes you believe in the power of love to overcome even the darkest battles.

Beyond the romance, The Keeper is a powerful continuation of Murphy’s mission, filled with pulse-pounding moments and deeply emotional reflections. Martin’s writing is as poetic as ever, drawing readers into a world where love, faith, and sacrifice collide in the most meaningful ways.

Most importantly, this book doesn’t feel like the end of the journey. If anything, it leaves the door wide open for more—more healing, more battles, and more of Murphy’s relentless pursuit of justice. I truly hope this isn’t the last time we get to walk alongside these characters.

For anyone who loves a story filled with action, heart, and a love that withstands every storm, The Keeper is a must-read.

I enjoyed The Keeper by Charles Martin. I thought the series was over and was excited when I heard about #4 being released. He is such a gifted writer and always draws me in his storytelling! The book starts off refreshing the reader of what happened in book 3.

'Because the needs of the one outweigh the needs of the ninety-nine.' This quote is the basis of what Murphy and his guys set out to do. Rescue those abducted into child trafficking. This book begins where book #3 left off when his good friend and mentor Bones died and Murphy is struggling to pick up the pieces and move on. He pulls it together when the two daughters of the VP are kidnapped and he is requested to again be a rescuer. I love that the lifelong mission for Murphy is to rescue the vulnerable and bring justice to the evil ones.

The story is filled with action and adventure to keep your interest in the story. It is a story of brokenness, grief, perseverance, redemption, and love!

The end of the story did leave an opening to a possible addition to this series, but we will see! I recommend starting at book 1 and reading through the series!

The Keeper is a fantastic addition to the Murphy Shepherd series. Through flashbacks and more vignettes, Charles Martin reminds us of the story of Bones and Murph and brings us forward into the future. Throughout this story I cried, I laughed and fell even more in love with the characters of this story than I was before.

This was an absolutely amazing book that will bring you to tears, horrify you and somewhere along the way, leave you a better person for having read it.

Murphy Shepherd is in a very dark place following the death of his mentor and friend Bones. They've been together for many years, saving people from horrible situations, facing death themselves to accomplish the rescues. Without Bones, Murph is adrift. He and his team continue the work Bones started, and one day they are faced with a challenge to one of their own.

I can't and won't go any further with a description because to do so would be not only spoiling the book for other readers, but removing the magic of reading it themselves first hand. First time in a long time a book has gutted me like this one did. Highly recommend, even if you haven't read the other books in the series.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.

Excellent story! The Keeper by Charles Martin is another fantastic story in the Murphy Shepherd series. I love the action, the characters who become family, the resources that this outside the government group has at their fingertips to rescue those who are lost and those who have been abducted for sex trafficking. These badass guys give everything they have to leave the 99 and rescue the one.

The vice president's three daughters are kidnapped from a extremely secure home. And there is not much to go on to be able to find them. There is definitely evil in this world, and these characters bring hope. They are the ones who children have been praying for to knock down the door and rescue them from the hell they are living in. Murph struggles with who he is after his life-long mentor is gone.

This whole series could be a series of movies. like Mission Impossible. The characters, their journeys, the action, it's just so good! I recommend that you start and book 1 and read your way to The Keeper. You will not be able to put any of them down! I highly recommend them all!

Thank you, NetGalley for allowing me to review this book. I was very excited when I heard there would be a Book 4 in the Keeper series.
Bones, Murphy Shepherd, and others who put their life on the line to save others from human trafficking and make a home for them are heroes and the family members who support them.
Book 4, The Keeper, is another great novel, very well written. a page-turner that kept my interest until the end. I am hoping that there will be more books in this series.

I was thrilled when I was granted the opportunity to read the ARC of Charles Martin's "The Keeper" (Murphy Shepherd #4). While flashbacks were abundant in the book, I felt they were necessary for two reasons: 1) in case anyone had not read books 1-3 in the series and 2) to serve as cathartic grief therapy. Martin excelled at showing how light overcomes the dark, hope overcomes despair, love overcomes evil. With the unexpected plot twist and ending, can there be a book #5?

“Bones would not dismiss Frank. Never had. So, for the last time, he left the ninety-nine to attempt one more impossible rescue.“

I literally don’t understand how Charles Martin manages to make each book in this series better than the one before! He has a way of drawing me into the me heart of the story and making me feel every single emotion. One minute this story had me chewing my nails I was so stressed and just a minute later, I was crying. Just a few minutes later, I was laughing. Charles Martin is truly an amazing author and this series has easily become one of my favorites. In The Keeper, Martin doesn’t just deal with the dark world of human trafficking, he also brings in the shady underside of the political elite and the things some people will do to stay in power. The entire series had me enthralled but this one was absolutely my favorite. There were so many surprises, and even with the heavy, sad moments, there were some truly beautiful scenes. I really hope this isn’t the last of the series!

Thank you, Charles Martin, Thomas Nelson Publishing, and Netgalley for gifting me an e-arc of this book. My review was not affected by this.

Thank you for the ARC and the opportunity to read this book.

This is the fourth in the Keeper series by Mr. Martin. Granted, I fell in love with his book’s way before the Keeper series and I have read most of them. I have to say I still like his previous books best, but of the 4 Keepers, this was my favorite.

He seems to go over the top in describing the fire power, the horsepower, and the action, from a middle-aged woman’s viewpoint, I do not know the difference between the gun caliber, so I just whiz past all that. This one does have a delightful story aside from all the action. I like the new characters he has introduced in the past two books and I will continue reading his books as long as he writes them. A 5-star read this is and I highly recommend.

My all time favorite of his is When Crickets Cry, he will have a hard time topping that one.

Charles Martin does it again - can he write a book this is not 100% amazing, heartbreaking, and healing at the same time? The Keeper was everything I needed to wrap up the Murphy Shepherd stories (but can we have another please?) The plot twists, the backstories . . . pure shock. Just when you think you have it figured out, there's another twist, another surprise. The storyline was so unique - it was fascinating for the story to be about such a high ranking politician, and I appreciated how the story opens the eyes of the reader to corruption high up within the government/politicians. (no spoilers). The Keeper broke me and healed me at the same time, and the storyline of true selfless agape love is so beautiful and healing. 10 stars!

The Keeper by Charles Martin gives readers more Murphy Shepherd! Now I highly recommend you read the entire trilogy before jumping into book 4, but it's definitely worth it. For those that haven't read the series, Murphy isn't your average superhero. He's dedicated his life to seek and save the lost. He tracks down missing and trafficked women and children, and takes on some very dangerous criminals. He and Bones defend Freetown, a place where victims can recover and rebuild. But after Bones is killed, Murphy shoulders the burden alone. Will he continue the work he started? He's called in when the Vice President's children are abducted, and he has to choose to leave the ninety-nine to search for the missing.

I love this series! Martin weaves amazing tales filled with heart and grit, not to mention amazing spiritual threads. This story gives a little more history as to how Murphy Shepherd becomes the man he is today. I'm so glad we got a 4th installment in this series. I think we all needed some closure and time to reflect along with the characters in the story. But the action and fast-paced energy of the book is what keeps me reading. I love the adventure and suspense that Martin brings to the story.

I also received an advanced copy of the audiobook, which I love audiobooks. The narrator brought this story to life...and in order to catch up for Book 4, I had listened to the previous 3 books again (which I generally don't re-read books, if that tells you how much I love the series. It's the same narrator (Jonathan K Riggs) and I highly recommend the audio version.

I received an ebook review copy of this book through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I have absolutely loved this series and was so excited to see that there was a book 4 since I thought it was ending with The Record Keeper. Murphy Shepherd is one of my favorite characters and it was amazing to see more of his past with Bones in this latest installment. Even with Bones gone, Murph jumps right back in to finding trafficked girls. It's a heartbreaking scenario and one I don't read about often but Charles Martin is a master story-teller and I can't resist his wonderful books! I'm not sure if there will be any more in this series, but if there are, I am definitely up for it!

If this looks interesting to you but you haven't read the first three books in this series, that is a definite must in order to get the most of them!

Many thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this fantastic book! All opinions are my own.

Such an inspirational story and definitely brings and draws attention to human trafficking, which is much needed and more prevalent than anyone is aware.

Martin is such an exquisite writer, tons of details, research is out all of his topics and military type techniques that you can just almost feel like you are right there in the heart pumping action. I love a good rescue story in this book is several examples of that. Also does an excellent job of adding spiritual elements throughout the story that really tug at your heart. All the emotions!

Love following along in the series and think this is the next excellent installation.

Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson books for my Audible early release copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I read The Keeper as a stand alone. I'm sure having read the first three books in the series would have enhanced this story, but characters and relationships were written in such a way that it was not essential. I do plan to go back and read the first books so I can get to know some of these fascinating characters better. Charles Martin is such a wonderful storyteller. His stories are deep and detailed, action-packed and emotional. The Keeper is about rescuers involved in the horrific, evil crime of human-trafficking with beautiful themes of faith, family, honor and sacrifice. I loved many characters but especially Murphy Shepherd and his deep desire to save the lost not just from their immediate imprisonment but from its long term impact. The book has many inspiring quotes, this being one of my favorite: “People in darkness don’t know they’re in darkness because it’s all they’ve ever known. It’s their world. They navigate by bumping off things that are stronger. Immovable. We, those of us who walk up here, have a tendency to look down our noses at them, but the truth is this: they don’t know darkness is darkness until someone turns on a light . . .” If you like a fast-paced, adventure story that is filled with unpredictable plot twists and heart-wrenching emotion The Keeper is one you won't want to miss.
Thank you to Thomas Nelson publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to read for my honest review.

The epic story of Murphy Shepherd continues in this fourth installment. The action takes us as far north as Alaska and all the way to Majorca with time spent in Colorado at Freetown, Washington D.C., and more.

If you have read the other three books, you will find yourself right back in the fight for the lost. Gunner, the German shepherd, is especially faithful in his service and earns his share of grilled rib-eyes. Murphy Shepherd is truly the hands and feet of the Good Shepherd as he gives his all to rescue children and women who are enslaved by the depraved.

All of our old friends are here with new characters added and new missions to be accomplished. In addition to the high stakes of saving the vice president's daughters, they are mourning the loss of Bones. Will the spirit of their leader inspire them to keep the rescue work alive?

This series is a mix of James Patterson and Nicholas Sparks plus a large serving of John 15:3. You will laugh, cry, and be inspired to love and pray for your neighbors.

Thank you to Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for a DRC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

This was a deep emotional read and not one for the faint of heart but definitely an emotional read. It may have some sensitive topics for some. Murph is mourning his mentor but the work is never done and his mourning may need to be placed on hold as another group of girls have been taken. As him and his crew rush to solve and capture those who wish to harm the innocent in the name of power, he will learn and discover more about himself than he ever thought. Summer of course is a stronghold through it all.

This was a great read and I am hoping to go back and read the previous books in this series.

David Bishop, AKA Murphy Shepherd, is a best selling novelist; writing is the way he processes life's difficulties and its joys. However, that is not all he is. As Murphy Shepherd he rescues people who have been abducted and trafficked. Shepherd says he rescues them twice, once when he knocks the door down, and again when he works to help them to be able to love and trust again as well as to once again feel worthy of being loved. This has been Murphy Shepherd's goal in life, placed in his heart by his beloved mentor, Ezekiel Walker, better known as Bones, throughout Charles Martin's Murphy Shepherd series of novels. The difference in this novel and its predecessors is that this one takes place after Shepherd has watched Bones' bullet-riddled body falling a hundred feet down a well shaft into a rushing underground river. Being forced to do this job when a close friend, and highly public figure, called saying all three of his daughters were abducted from their highly-secured home, is almost unimaginable without Bones there to accompany him, but with the support of his family, friends and colleagues, Murphy manages to do the unimaginable.

The Keeper is no less intense than any of the other novels in this series, all of which evoke strong emotions from the reader. Research says fiction reading builds empathy. These books exemplify that. Sometimes the reader will want to stop reading just to catch their breath and let their emotions calm down, but putting the book aside even for a short time is easier said than done. This series is best read in order; much would be lost in doing otherwise. If you haven't read any of the books in this series yet, you have the advantage of not enduring the wait until then next one is published, at least not until you reach this fourth book in the series. I give The Keeper five stars. I am grateful to have received a complimentary copy from Thomas Nelson via NetGalley without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 Stars (Outstanding)
Setting: From Washington, D.C., to dark corners of the world where human trafficking networks thrive
Genre: Contemporary Christian Fiction

The Keeper is a powerful and fitting conclusion to an unforgettable series; oh, how I hate for this series to end!
It is a breathtaking, emotional, and deeply satisfying conclusion to Murphy Shepherd’s journey—one that is equal parts heart-wrenching and hopeful. Charles Martin delivers yet another masterful story filled with high stakes, relentless action, and profound moments of grace.

Murphy’s grief over losing Bones is palpable, and his struggle to carry on the mission without his mentor adds a depth of vulnerability we haven’t seen before. The weight of responsibility on his shoulders is immense, but in true Murph fashion, he doesn’t hesitate when faced with the impossible: rescuing the kidnapped daughters of his longtime friend, Vice President Aaron Ashley. The urgency of this mission propels the story forward, but it’s the quieter moments—Murph’s reflections on loss, love, and faith—that make the novel truly unforgettable.

Martin’s writing is gripping, balancing fast-paced action with deeply personal introspection. He doesn’t shy away from the horrors of human trafficking, yet he also weaves in hope, redemption, and the belief that even the darkest evil can be confronted. Murph’s journey is one of sacrifice, perseverance, and the relentless pursuit of justice, reminding us that the fight for the one lost soul is always worth it.

This book—and the entire series—left a lasting impact on me. It’s rare to find a story that blends action, faith, and raw emotion so seamlessly. If you’ve followed Murph’s journey from the beginning, The Keeper will break your heart and heal it in equal measure. A stunning conclusion to an unforgettable series. #netgalley #thekeeper #booked_this_weekend

Murph is crushed when his mentor Bones dies on a mission, but while they'd managed to take down the man at the top, the man's seven generals are still at large - and it soon becomes clear that they're not going to fade easily out of the picture. When the vice-president Aaron Ashley's three daughters are abducted, Murph hurries to discover and rescue his friend's family. But clues are almost impossible to find, the political situation is volatile and Murph's own grief is almost overwhelming. Worse, they don't only need to find the girls, and as quickly as possible - they also need to discover who was behind their abduction and bring them to justice, or they'll never be safe again. And the inside knowledge required in the abduction suggests someone they trust must be involved...

A deeply touching, incredibly inspiring, un-put-downable and thought-provoking read. While exposing some of the darkest parts of the human heart, this book also shines a light on both God's love and the way humans express that in saving others. We see both extremes - the very bad (thankfully without anything overly graphic or explicit) and the very good, those willing to endanger themselves and put their own lives aside to help others. Nothing went quite how I expected (well, except for one point where I said 'surely not...?', but somehow the answer was yes, and it worked despite my initial feeling), but it all came together beautifully. It kept me reading eagerly, and I blame it for two nights of far too little sleep! I didn't think the author could beat the previous book, but I think he actually has. I particularly loved the flashbacks to earlier points in his time with Bones, which did an amazing job of rounding out the picture of how he got to where he is, and what he learned along the way. I had tears in my eyes numerous times through the book, but there were also moments of laughter at times to keep it from being all dark. All in all, an incredible story.

Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.

I was so excited when I saw we were going to get another Murphy Shepherd story! I didn’t think there could be more to tell, but I was proven wrong! I stayed up way to late and finished it in two days. There were times it was hard to read the content because it exposes the world of human trafficking. Our world can be so dark, evil, and bring unimageable pain. Martin writes to exposes darkness, but in a way that is still so hopeful and celebrates light again and again. I love how every word he writes has purpose and the story always comes together with no crumbs left behind. I would suggest reading the first three in the series to be able to grasp the relationships and experiences all the characters have together.

When I saw this book was available I was absolutely doing a happy dance. This Murphy Shepherd series has been one of the most wonderful, emotionally-satisfying reads I have found in a long, long time. I couldn't wait to tear into this one. This is the fourth book in the series, and yes you can read it as a stand alone, but I would recommend you start at the first one and savor each one as the story of Murphy Shepherd unfolds.

Description:
In this fourth book in the Murphy Shepherd series, Murphy knows Bones didn't hesitate to give his life to stop the evil perpetuated by his brother, but there's still work to be done. Though Frank is gone, his organization is not, and almost even before Bones's funeral in Arlington is complete, Murph receives a call that the three daughters of presidential hopeful Aaron Ashley have been taken and there are no leads.

The girls' lives on the line and time is of the essence. But Murphy has never done this without Bones. How can he grieve his friend and mentor, figure out who he is without Bones, and navigate a new role for himself with team . . . all while putting total focus into finding these daughters?

When his daughters are finally rescued, Ashley steps back from the presidential race. But Murph knows something about the timing is a little too convenient for the senator who steps in to take his place. The far-reaching tendrils of Frank's organization are entangled even here, and Murph and his team will stop at nothing to root them out.

My Thoughts:
This book is both heart-warming and gut-wrenching as are all of the books in this series. Murphy is grieving badly at the loss of his friend and mentor Ekekiel Bones Walker. He doesn't know how to handle moving on without Bones. When his friend, Vice-President Ashley, calls and asks for his help as his three daughters have been abducted, Murphy has to find a way to pull it together and try to find them without Bones. He doesn't know if he can. I was sobbing as I read and felt Murphy's pain and grief and loss. I was smiling as Summer showed Murphy her love and her faith in him. There's also a beautiful, wonderful wedding in Freetown! Then there are also seven generals Murphy must find and put away to break up a large sex trade group. I love the characters. I love Summer's twirls. I love Murphy's heart. And I love Bones and his steadfast love. Anyone with a heart will love this book and the entire series.

I love these books. I sat here trying to figure out how to start this review and all I could land on was that. These books encompass adventure, romance, hope, and have the gospel threaded throughout.

This is a four book series and although you could probably read this as a standalone, you don't want to. This series is full of rich character development, building on previous plot lines, and complexities you would miss out on enjoying reading them out of order.

I'm selfish and want as much of this series that Charles Martin is willing to write.
---
At the end of the first three, we as readers and Charles Martin as a writer said he was done with these books. But we all needed to return. We needed to go through the journey of emotions the closing of book 3 sent us on and this story is so rich and doesn’t pull any punches that by the end, I could not see how this series could exist without this edition. Plus, we not only got a continuation of the story of the first three books, but we got backstory on the two main characters that added a whole new layer of meaning to it all.

Thanks to Thomas Nelson for the gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
