Description
On a sultry summer afternoon, Paramedic Zoe Chambers responds to a call and finds a farmer’s body hanging from the rafters of his hay barn. What first appears to be a suicide quickly becomes something sinister when Zoe links the victim to a pair of deaths forty-five years earlier. Her attempts to wheedle information from her mother and stepfather hit a brick wall of deception, one that brings into question everything Zoe knows about her late father, who died in a car crash when she was eight. Or did he?
Police Chief Pete Adams fears Zoe’s inquiries are setting her up for deeper heartbreak and putting her in danger. As Zoe and Pete inch closer to the truth, they discover that a missing gun links the crimes which span more than four decades. But the killer isn’t done. Two more Vance Township residents fall victim to the same gun, and when tragedy strikes too close to home, Zoe realizes her family is in the crosshairs.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Annette Dashofy, a Pennsylvania farm gal born and bred, grew up with horses, cattle, and, yes, chickens. After high school, she spent five years as an EMT for the local ambulance service. She, her husband, and their two spoiled cats live on property that was once part of her grandfather’s dairy. Her short fiction, including a 2007 Derringer nominee, has appeared in Spinetingler, Mysterical-e, and Fish Tales: The Guppy Anthology. Her newest short story appears in the Lucky Charms Anthology.

Zoe Chambers is again caught up in a mystery that is not of her causing - but this time is seems to involve her father, uncles, mother, and stepfather. It will take all she has to keep her focus on her job as an EMT and as her town’s Deputy Coroner. And not be killed in the process.
The mystery starts in chapter one and continues through to the final page - at a pace that rarely stops. The reader will follow Zoe Chamber’s exploits across Monongahela County in southeastern Pennsylvania. New murders seem to follow poorly investigated cold cases - which threaten the lives of those still living. It will take the talents of amatuer slueth, Zoe, and her semi-romantic interest, Vance Township Police Chief Pete Adams, as well as the understaffed, underfunded county crime lab to put the pieces together.
The perfect cozy mystery for anybody looking for a late summer, early fall read. The rural setting of Monongahela County is the perfect mix of mild summer days, and wild heat filled storms. It will soon become a place that the reader will want to visit for a day or two while traveling through the area. I would just hope that you do not stumble on the scene of the next murder - which I will eagerly await to read. ______________

This second installment in the Zoe Chambers Mystery series is just as good as Book 1, if not better. Annette Dashofy writes fun, suspenseful mystery novels. I stayed up late into to the night so that I could finish this book and see "whodunit". Zoe Chambers is a very interesting and unique heroine and I love these mysteries revolving around her. Henery Press has an awesome collection of authors. I love all of their books!

This story says it is a "Zoe Chambers Mystery" but this was really a Zoe Chambers / Pete Adams Mystery. This story was equal parts Zoe's life and equal parts Pete's life. I was discombobbled at the beginning (I hadn't read book one) and I didn't realize Pete was the Police Chief. So, when Pete's sister dropped his Alzheimer-ridden father on his doorstep, I was clueless as to why Pete didn't have time to care for him. I quickly referred to the synopsis and discovered that Pete just wasn't some police officer lackey like I had thought in the beginning but low and behold was the Chief of the entire force. Uh, yeah, sisterly, his job is a bit more important than yours. I thought it was great how the entire community came out to help Pete take care of his dad.
That story was awesome. It made me cry at the end. I just loved the story of Pete and Zoe and the mystery of who killed James Engle. The mystery was complex, thrilling and just perfectly conceived. I loved how even the birthday of a minor character figured into the mystery. All the clues were well placed. You let me try and figure out the mystery with Zoe and Pete and I really appreciate that in a novel. The text flowed well. And I was so happy to see the addition of Harry to the story. I will definitely be checking out book one in the series. This is a must read story!!
Thank you for allowing me to read it, Henery Press! Just wonderful!

Paramedic Zoe Chambers answers a call that ends with her finding a local farmer hanging from the rafters in his barn. What st first looks like suicide is rapidly beginning to look more like murder. Zoe thinks there is a link to two deaths almost 50 years earlier, but even though her mother and stepfather seem to have information about the earlier cases, they won’t say a word. As Zoe and police chief Pete Adams search for the truth, Zoe begins to wonder if she really knows her family at all.
Dashofy creates strong believable characters and stirs in a mystery that will keep readers guessing till the end
