Immune Heroes is a story that explains how the body works to protect and heal itself after injury. It uses the appropriate scientific terminology, but in a way that is more understandable to the target demo: kids. The illustrations help to move the explanations along while keeping kids engaged. It's definitely a cute book for early elementary aged kids!
Thanks to BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for an eARC of this book for an honest review.
Oh my, what a great way to teach kids about how things work inside our bodies. The illustrations are a great helper too, but the main hero is the way Namita explains the process of healing from the beginning to the end.
The hero board at the end is also pretty great for remembering the most important actors in this. Definitely recommend!
This is a wonderful book, told about the superheroes in our body, those that fight infections. It is like a sci fi movie, but it is all true. It is well written and well illustrated and a blast to our wonderful body. A great introduction to science, exciting and invigorating.
As a critical care nurse, I adored this children’s book and hope the author made the immune system fun! A great book for the kid interested in medicine! Loved the illustrations
Overall, the book was well written, captured my attention and I did really enjoy it. Thank you for this advance copy!
Educational and fun! Great story that really brings things down to a kid's level. My girls absolutely loved it. Illustrations were fun and engaging. Highly recommended!
Designed for children and other non-medical folks, this is a story of what different cells work hard to protect us from infection. The cells are named and personalized yet it is a presentation that would help make sense to students in biology class.

This book is a great way to teach children about how the body heals a cut. I love that it was rewritten by a doctor, she made it engaging and informative.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!
My 3yo actually followed along on this very informative tale about what happens in our bodies when we scrape our knee. I paused to clarify a few times, but she kept up pretty well. It was very info heavy but the illustrations were fun and engaging.
An absolute must have. This little book does such a wonderful job of teaching kids about the different parts of their immune system and what each does while telling a fun adventure story. I love the use of a scraped knee as the inciting incident in this book, as I feel like even adults often don't know/ forget that it is not just when we have a cold, or such, that our immune system is hard at working fighting for us. The book is so incredibly well done and fun!
This is a great little book to show some of how the immune system works, I think it will capture the imagination of children to help them learn. I liked that although the author had given the parts of immune system nicknames at the back of the book there were their proper names and a reminder of their function
I love the concept of this - teaching kids how our immune system works to fight off bacteria and prevent infections - they truly are incredible!
The story is engaging, using superhero characters to deliver this fun and educational story!
The author did a wonderful job making the immune system fun while keeping it educational and using colorful illustrations to keep young readers engaged. I would highly recommend Immune Heroes: Protector of the Wound for young children interested in STEM but I feel most would find this story enjoyable.
Immune Heroes: Protector of the Wound by Dr. Damita Gandhi is an amazing book to read ! I used to work in the health field for four years in a family medicine clinic and I wished we had this book in our clinic. I LOVED this book! I am impressed and fascinated how the book was put together. I read it to my four year old and not only did she enjoy the artwork of the book, she learned some medical terms. She enjoyed learning about how there are immune heroes that help heal us whenever we are injured or have a sign of inflammation. Our favorite hero would be the Memory B cell because she has great memory that creates antibodies.
Thank you Netgalley for this beautiful book. We enjoyed every page of this children's book.
This book is so fun! It tells a story of a kid who scrapes his knee and the way his body goes in to action to heal and fight infection. The story is factual and easily breaks down concepts for younger readers. My son is seven and easily understood it, but I think younger and older kids would love it too. The illustrations are fun, captivating, and help explain the story. I love children’s that make complicated things easily digestible for all ages and this book fits the bill. I’d highly recommend this book!
Superheroes and biology combine is this clever picture book. Dr Namita Gandhi's entertaining but educational story explains the healing process in a manner that even little ones can understand. When a young boy gets hurt, his sister reminds him that his body is working to make him better. Then the reader sees inside the body as Captain T rounds the forces. Tamika Bramwell has created cute cartoon characters that kids will enjoy. The author uses both the scientific name and a character name that youngsters can remember as she explains the process that the body uses. This mix of strait forward science and kid friendly terms and pictures make the book useful for anyone. It can a great addition to a home library to help kids deal with injury, but it can also serve as a resource in the classroom. The hero team diagram at the end of the book would help students reinforce the roles of the various microbes. I wish that I had this book decades ago when I was taking a biology class.
I received an electronic review copy of this book, but the opinions expressed are entirely my own.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this with my son, it's a fun story whilst also being educational at the same time and I thought it was a great introduction to Science for such young children. The illustrations are great too and really help them gain a good understanding of the story!
