Description
What if vampires had a soul?
Every night, Dr. Phenice Jones is terrorized by the bloody nightmares of a cursed Egyptian Queen who begins to haunt her waking hours. Slowly her carefully crafted life begins to crumble as her long forgotten heartbreak resurfaces and a forbidden attraction for a dark but captivating patient threatens her career as a psychiatrist.
Her life capsizes when a late-night run collides with a group of supernatural hunters. Believing she survives a murder attempt, her fate unfolds as she descends into the ancient transformation process from mortal to vampire. Phenice’s past human incarnations merge into her now immortal body, filling her with life-altering supernatural powers.
With the memories of her soul intact, Phenice must deal with her past. The ritual made two things clear: First, she has been chosen to break a curse—an ancient and apocalyptic mistake made by The Divine Powers; second, she rediscovers the other half of her soul—her fated mate.
To save her immortal life, Phenice will have to overcome her pain and find a way to open her heart in this dark romantasy where the passion of Romeo and Juliet meets the sacrifice of Braveheart.
In a world full of vampires, demons, gods, and goddesses, even an immortal life is a fragile thing…and if Phenice isn’t careful, it won’t be the only thing she loses.

A Note From the Publisher
I want to express my appreciation to every person who chooses to embark on this journey with me. It’s important to explain that the potential triggers/content within my writing are not simply for shock value, and please remember this is a work of fiction.
I create fiction to reflect experiences I have either personally lived through and can identify with or have helped patients and clients recover from. The situations in my books are not to be taken literally, but are meant to reflect the grief, pain, love, and long list of emotions experienced during our journey through this vast human experience. In my twenty-plus years within the medical world, I have worked with people from many walks of life and the one constant is—that we all suffer in some form or another; it is inevitable. Yet I have seen people overcome time and time again.
Wishing You An Abundance of All Things,

Our story begins with Dr. Phenice Jones, a psychiatrist haunted by recurring nightmares of Egyptian Queen Sadeh. These nightmares are causing immense distress to her PTSD and disrupting her daily life. The author provides valuable background information on Phenice’s upbringing, which deeply moved me and empathized with her emotions.
To add an element of intrigue, Phenice is attacked by vampires and emerges as an immortal being with extraordinary powers. She discovers that she has lived an earlier life, was cursed, found her soulmate, and ultimately met her demise. It’s remarkable how she manages to keep all these revelations and experiences under control.
Even with her new life and powers, she must remain hidden from the Queen to stay alive. Her new adventure with her soulmate and friends begins. Overall, the story is an entertaining and captivating journey that keeps the reader engaged until the end.
I want to thank the author Maddie Rose Andry and NetGalley letting me to read this book.
Mortal End is an absolute debut masterpiece of literary fiction that gripped my heart and soul from the start!
This Gothic Romance contains all the hallmarks of the genre from horror, violence, supernatural effects, and tragedy to scenes shrouded in the dark of a moonlit night all taking place in a modern urban setting. Centered around the question, “What if Vampires had a soul?,” a soul that carries with it the memories and awareness of each life it had before, the author pieces together a tapestry through history and time where each string intertwines and joins with the other to create a completely consuming and life affirming tale of love, loss, perseverance and healing.
The precise and descriptive writing created beautiful imagery which made me feel like I was watching a motion picture instead of simply reading the book. The FMC, Dr. Phenice Jones, is developed with such depth she had me feeling deep compassion and sadness for her lingering PTSD from childhood trauma while cheering on her efforts to move on with her life. I could viscerally feel her overwhelming emotions and desperation driving her self-protection, even as those efforts left her lonely and isolated. As the story unfolds, I experienced her inner turmoil over her life, and the changes she’s experiencing, as well as feeling her well of inner strength bubbling up to the surface.
With well-developed characters I am now completely invested in, a new take on vampires, creative world building, and gorgeous imagery, Mortal End asked me to consider some of life’s bigger questions: What is our soul? What does it mean to be human? Free-will versus Fate? What makes us Good or Evil?; all while taking me on an emotional and exciting urban fantasy adventure of epic proportions.
One of the most moving and absorbing books I have read this year, Mortal End is a top 2024 read for me, and I am so grateful to have received an Advanced Copy. Even while my heart is anxiously (and impatiently) awaiting the next book, I cannot recommend this read or author highly enough.
Beautiful. Empowering. Tragic. Soul Crushing. Healing.
A story of self-acceptance. A story of sacrifice. A love story that crosses time itself. A fresh view into this genre of vampires.
Gothic Romance meets Modern Day. In the BEST way!
The opportunity I had to read this book will forever stay with me. I loved it so much! The pain I felt radiating off these characters, the hurt and the healing. I experienced these things WITH them! I was pulled in so deep that I rarely came up for air. Review words won't do this story justice. Feeling the emotions can only be done through the eyes of the characters. And it is done in such a heart-wrenching way that broke me and pieced me back together again. Almost.
"Crave" is not a strong enough word for how badly I am already itching to read the second installment of this series! And every installment after that!
Miss Maddie Rose Andry has me enthralled!
I really enjoyed this book. It was a gothic romance at its core that went a lot deeper asking moral questions and covering topics beyond love like loss and human strength, PTSD. It was very well written and the chapters (especially FMC Phenice) felt very real and raw. This book held all of the things a book should. Deep thoughts, exciting plot, character development and world building.
I have no bad thoughts
Mortal End is an exceptional debut novel that weaves together a dark and enthralling tale of vampires and romance. From the very first page, I was captivated by the vivid world-building and the way the author seamlessly combines supernatural intrigue with deeply emotional connections.
The vampires are refreshingly complex, each with unique personalities and motives that set them apart from typical portrayals. The romance is electric, full of tension and heart-stopping moments that kept me turning the pages late into the night. The chemistry between the main characters is undeniable, and their development feels natural, pulling you deeper into their story with every twist and turn.
For a debut, the writing is remarkably polished, with a perfect balance of action, suspense, and heartfelt emotion. Fans of vampire lore and slow-burn romance will be absolutely hooked. Mortal End is not just a book—it’s an experience. I can't wait to see what this author creates next!
