Description
19th Century Paris Madam Tells All–about Business Success, That Is!
When you want sound business advice, it’s important to listen to those who have been successful in business.
Life-long entrepreneur Claude Roessiger knows a great deal about business success. He has founded several successful international companies and is a respected authority on the branding of luxury and specialty products.
Roessiger’s new book Madame Alexandra’s Rules of Business is a fun read and shares astute business advice through the experiences of a 19th Century Paris madam who became one of the wealthiest self-made women of her time.
For two decades Alexandra Borodinskaya—known to her elegant clientele only as Madame Alexandra—ran Paris’s most highly regarded "maison close". Ever secretive, Madame Alexandra remained an elegant mystery to her notable clients. Unlike many famous madams, there is no record of her ever having personally worked in her trade at any time during her life. A brilliant businesswoman, she created one of Paris’s most highly-regarded business establishments, frequented by the powerful, the wealthy and the leading light of France’s arts and sciences. Her business advice, which still rings true today, will benefit business owners, entrepreneurs, business professionals and business students.

"BRILLIANT BUSINESS ADVICE IN A UNIQUE VOICE"

Author Claude Roessiger, an entrepreneur from the world of luxury enterprises, penned a book so unique that it often brought a smile to my face. He assumes the voice of a nineteenth-century madam in Paris – not just any madam, indeed, one of the highest in society, a discreet proprietor of a maison close – who, by her brilliant expertise in business, also became one of the wealthiest self-made women of the day.
Part non-fiction, part fiction, Madame Alexandra’s Rules for Business: The Enduring Principles of Business Success is an enchanting read. Roessiger’s prose flows like fine champagne: dry, refined, and effervescent.
As an entrepreneur, I found myself nodding as I read the brief, easily digestible passages, and smiling at Madame Alexandra’s clever tongue-in-cheek asides. Her advice is appropriate for any business – and though her account is dated 1905, her business advice holds true today. As a thought leader, her opinions might have been the precursor to the modern MBA of today.
I hope to read more from Claude Roessiger soon.
